About this lodge
The Woodland Valley Lodge (in Phoenicia) is among the finest accommodations in the Catskills. Shandaken Township STR License #: 2023-STR-AO-122.
A 1900 craftsman ski/fishing lodge with all the warmth and charms of a stone fireplace, wood beamed ceilings and douglas fir floors, but fully updated with the modern comforts of home including two remodeled (2024) full bathrooms. The interior Lodge is nestled in spectacular Woodland Valley – a short two hour drive from New York City and just down a two lane road to one of America’s coolest towns, Phoenicia.
Ground Floor:
You enter the Lodge into the Main Lodge room where you'll sit and chat for hours as you solve the world's wonders from two leather sofas in front of a river stone fireplace which is constructed from our own Woodland Valley Stream stones. A new propane furnace keeps the Lodge toasty in winter, and an iron, sealed, Danish, wood burning fireplace adds ambiance and mad charm!
The Lodge decor is themed on the great western US National Parks, and of course on New York’s own Catskills Park (since we are located in the middle of Catskill Park!). Think Pendleton wool blankets for color! The Yellowstone master bedroom and the Rainier bedroom are downstairs off of the Main Lodge room, and each sleeps two in queen beds. The Screening / Reading room, also located off of the Main Lodge, is another cozy spot to sit and read or binge Netflix on a leather sofa there with your feet on the ottoman. There is a newly remodeled (early 2024) full bathroom - iron soaking tub and rain shower - as you walk from the Main Lodge room to the kitchen. Entering the kitchen, you'll face the Wolf range and feel the natural light flooding in from windows on two walls of the kitchen. The breakfast table seats 6-8, and 2 more can eat at the countertop nook on two counter stools. Walking through the kitchen then past the other modern Bosch and Samsung appliances, you will enter the Catskills dining room. This table is set for 6, but we seat 10 there at holidays. Here you can sit drinking your coffee either at the large stone topped table or in one of the two lounge chairs with lambskin padding and watch nature through the windows on three sides. In summer, listen to the bucolic bubbling of the Woodland Valley Stream as you drink your coffee, and in winter watch the snow fall as you still hear the faint creek sounds through the windows. The Catskill dining room is also perfect for board games.
Music love is also fed at the Lodge as we included Sonos One players in both the kitchen and the main Lodge room. You can stream from Spotify or any music app on your phone or device.
Second Floor:
The Glacier bedroom is at the top of the stairs upstairs and also sleeps two in a queen bed, while the Yosemite bedroom across the hallway sleeps four (2 on the bunk beds and another 2 in separate twin beds). The upstairs bathroom was also recently remodeled (early 2024) and your little ones will LOVE the Bear Cave which is a hidden kids hangout upstairs!
The scenery surrounding the Lodge is spectacular and just outside your door. Mountains are on all sides. Watch deer with their fawns below you from the Catskill room as you drink your morning coffee or play board games or cards. Fish for brown, rainbow, and brook trout, or enjoy a refreshing swim in the creek. Hike or snowshoe the many nearby trails. Sit around the firepit at night in six black Adirondack chairs listening to the wood crackle and the creek passing just feet away.
The Lodge brings the US National Parks to you two hours from the city. Come spend some time - relax and energize with nature all around you.

The house is located off Woodland valley stream and has a nice outdoor area to sit by the fire and enjoy nature. The home is over 100 years old and although it is updated it still retains its old world charm.

Our family enjoyed sleeping in the Lodge. It’s location was perfect for get togethers with friends also up in the Catskills
We had a bear and bald eagle sighting during our trip which was thrilling.
Unfortunately the dumpster was turned over by bears before our stay making it unusable for us the first day.
All in all we spent very limited time at the lodge. As we spent the majority of our time at another home in woodland valley
We found the accommodations suitable.

We had such a wonderful time staying at the Lodge. The historic property was beautiful and clean, and we loved being right on the Woodland Creek. There was plenty of space for our two families of four to not feel like we were constantly on top of each other, and the location had great proximity to so many hikes. The firepit was perfect for s'mores with the kids, and they loved seeing the wildlife that wandered through the property (turkeys and even a bear one day)! There's a swimming hole up the road that we made use of on our last day there, and we all spent a ton of time down at the creek. Overall, it was a fabulous place to stay, and we'd love to come back.

I stayed with a group of 10 friends at the lodge for a long weekend. It was a great time! The host was communicative and everything at the house was laid out to use with ease. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen + dining space were beautiful. Best of all, the creek running through the property provided the most serene backdrop while resting or hanging out. Thanks again!

Our family celebrated my sons wedding in NYC and came to the lodge to relax after the event. 2 hours up from the city we experienced the beautiful little towns, rivers and woodlands of the Catskills. The lodge was perfect for the feeling of a craftsman lodge with all the amenities.it was relaxing , cozy, clean and close to good restaurants and hiking would definitely return .

Our families enjoyed our long weekend at the lodge. The house was charming and very clean, well-stocked and comfortable for our four adults and four kids. The land had plenty of space for relaxing, enjoying the fire pit or sitting by the stream.
The area around the house is beautiful and we enjoyed a few local hikes.
The welcome packet was thorough and answered all our questions, and communication with Kevin was great.

The Woodland Valley Lodge is a step back in time for those looking for a rustic, well-maintained, historic house. The setting is beautiful, particularly during the fall. We enjoyed walks along Woodland Valley Road and in some of the area's hiking trails and parks. The surrounding towns are quite pretty and we enjoyed our time together there. I went with a group of women friends who were all turning 50 this year. We were made to feel young by the owners who reminded us many times that partying was not allowed at the house and I was "carded" before officially signing the rental agreement. The owners provided extremely detailed instructions on how to use the appliances, the fireplace, fire pit, heat, etc, along with a list of restrictions, all in the PDF welcome packet. I printed it out before heading into the woods and shared it with my friends so we could refer to it throughout our stay. The day of my arrival, the owner was very responsive when I was unable to unlock the house. Luckily, I had time to print out the PDF'd instructions sent the night before that included the keypad & alarm codes, as well as the wifi network & password. There is no cell service in the area (but your GPS will work as long as your destination is entered earlier in the trip). When I arrived in the rain late in the afternoon and couldn't get into the house, I was pleased to find that the wifi reached the porch and was able to log in to text the owner who was able to let me into the house. That evening, as two of us were sitting down to dinner, the power went out in the rain storm. We weren't too phased, but we did learn a few things for future trips: bring flashlights, candles, and matches to any home you're visiting. Also, we found that the local landline didn't work, because the phone itself was digital and wasn't holding a charge. We enjoyed eating delicious local pizza by cell phone flashlight. We couldn't use the beautiful stone fireplace for heat or light, because we learned the morning of our arrival that the fireplace was under repair. It was a bummer, but luckily our bunch is used to camping and outdoor adventures, so we managed. The good news is that the power came on before Midnight. I am glad I brought my own bluetooth speaker to play music, because using the Sonos required me to log into the owners' device, with their password, from the Sonos app to play other music. Again, it was not a big deal.
Overall, a beautiful location and property.

Catskills Family Get-Away
This is a beautiful historical home. The owners have taken great care to preserve the character of the site. The location was great as we traveled from opposite directions to meet as a family. Many of us are avid hikers and so there were several nice hikes close by. The beds were extremely comfortable. Even though the weather was in the 90’s the evenings were cool and a fan made it very comfortable to sleep. The only issue we had was that the disposal company did not empty the dumpster and we couldn’t fit any more garbage in. I realize this is a fluke occurrence but we tied up the garbage and had to leave it for the cleaners and/or Caretaker. We of course could not leave garbage accessible to the bears….. which we did see on the last night. The description was not kidding. We saw black bears twice!!

Wonderful property!
We booked the lodge as a final piece on a visit from the west coast, it was our family of four and two adult family members who drove up from the city. The photos do not express just how lovely this place is. The lodge has been very well maintained and we loved how it has been updated but the character of the original build has remained intact. The beds were probably the most comfortable of any rental property we've ever stayed at, and our kids enjoyed the bunk room. The lodge is not air conditioned, but we found it kept rather cool if we opened the windows at the right time to let cool air in. They layout of the house is really nice, as well. The dining room is somewhat detached from the rest of the house, so you can hang out in there and chat after folks have gone to bed without bothering anyone. The kitchen was nicely stocked with cooking utensils and equipment....and sharp knives! The outdoor area is lovely. We enjoyed making s'mores in the fire pit and messing around in the stream behind the lodge. We also saw wildlife in the yard every day! Hosts were very quick to respond if we needed anything, but they're VERY good about having instructions around for just about anything you'd need to use in the house, which was also nice.
If we ever find ourselves up that way again, we'll definitely stay at the lodge. We've already shared the property listing to our friends who live within driving distance of it.

Great Spot in the Woods!
Spent 7 nights here with 6 adults and two kids. It was a great place to spend time in the woods, by the fire, down exploring the creek and studying tadpoles, or as a home base for exploring the greater Catskills/Hudson Valley. Very classy historic lodge that had just the right vibe. Definitely a place we would return to if its in the cards. Beds were comfortable and the kids loved the bear cave.

Beautiful fall getaway
The Lodge met and exceeded our expectations. It was such a peaceful and wonderful experience to have a burbling creek in the backyard, a fabulous fireplace to read by and such comfortable surroundings. The owners were very responsive and we just had a lovely time hiking in the area and leaf peeping. My daughter loved the bunk beds and Bear Cave. The property is very well kept and it’s such a unique home. We will definitely be back.

Great Family Getaway
My husband and I and our two young boys (2 and 4) rented the lodge with another family with a 2 year old son. We had a blast! It was beautiful and honestly relaxing even with all the kiddos running around. Playing in the stream in back provided hours of entertainment. We had a camp fire and roasted s’mores, ran around in the yard, and grilled. It was very hot while we were there but the lodge stayed very comfortable. The kids loved the bunk beds and exploring the lodge. It was a great classic family vacation in nature. We spotted a lot of wild turkeys and bunnies.

Excellent Family Gathering Place
We have been visiting the Catskills for years, sometimes renting a house, sometimes attending camp, sometimes staying in a hotel. This particular house was outstanding as a family gathering place. We are all adults, but I wish we had had some kids with us because it is such a perfect setting--a historic lodge by the creek, with a terrific kitchen and an outdoor fire pit where you can do some serious cooking. We loved the ambience, the old stone fireplace, the big dining room, the large living room with old beam ceiling. It's close to Phoenicia, a good central location for the region. I didn't want to leave.

Wonderful Catskills Weekend
My family and I stayed in this charming lodge for a long weekend away from the city and had a delightful time.
Most guests probably wouldn't start a review here - but the high-speed internet was outstanding and allowed my husband and I to work in TV/media on Friday and our daughter to do remote 2nd grade learning. If you are looking for a place with the remote atmosphere of the woods and mountains - while still being able to work/remote school - this is a wonderful option.
The beds were very comfortable and despite being an extraordinarily cold weekend, the house was cozy thanks to the fireplace insert and the propane furnace. We only had to turn the heat on in one upstairs room the first night we arrived.
The yard, firepit and creek were all wonderful. And my youngest especially LOVED the bear cave. So clever.
We had such a wonderful time, in fact, that we are considering buying our own property.
There were two small challenges - the well water was not usable for drinking or cooking, but Kevin was outstanding in terms of communication and these things happen! It did not hinder our enjoyment. We also had trouble with the lock on the bear proof dumpster - but again, Kevin was terrific in terms of communication and offered a solution.
Highly recommend! And thank you for allowing us to stay!

Warm and cozy winter getaway
This was a lovely house, very well equipped and extremely comfortable. When we first looked at the online photos, we wondered if it would be too small for a family of four adults (working from home) and two children (“attending” virtual school) for a week. But it turned out there was plenty of room for us all to spread out and have our own space — or to gather to share a board game or jigsaw puzzle. And that is high praise, since we were all together inside most of the time! The wood fireplace is great, the kitchen is large and inspires cooking and baking. We loved looking out the traditional small-paned windows of all 4 sides of the house at the beautiful woods (with snow-covered trees while we were there). The owner, Kevin, answered all our questions in emails and phone calls extremely promptly and was consistently helpful.

Perfect getaway
The Lodge offered a perfect and special getaway for my family and friends over the long weekend. You can spend your whole time at the house enjoying the backyard and stream, or one of the many available boardgames and puzzles they have. Or take the fun out doors for plenty of hiking all around. The area is great, and truly a hop and a skip from all activities and anything you need.
The Lodge is very clean and the owners are friendly and responsive for any concern.
For those with allergies: Rent without worries! The linens are cleaned with scent free detergent.

My family had a nice short vacation here. We enjoyed the fires, the stream, the mountains. Also saw a bear down the road. I liked falling asleep to the sound of the stream. I was happy no pets were allowed as my son is very allergic to dogs and we have had issues at other places. He was fine, but I actually had some dust allergies, I think from the wool blankets, or sheets that hadn’t been used in a while. The backyard is beautiful. There are views of the mountains, the peaceful stream, we enjoyed roasting marshmallows at the fire pit, and seeing lots of stars at night. I recommend a day trip to Kaaterskill Falls, our kids loved it. We also spent some time in Woodstock. The owner is very responsive to communication.Overall it is a great place. My only complaint is I wish a little more care was put into maintenance - we used the last clothes detergent pod, the hand soap was on empty, the garbage and recycling were filled to the brim and I had to cram things in. Also, I’m not sure how often the blankets or unused sheets are cleaned (I was concerned about it because I had allergies from them and couldn’t sleep with them, I had to rewash my sheets).

We Loved the Woodland Valley Lodge
My partner and I just returned from a wonderful week at the Woodland Valley Lodge. The Lodge is everything they advertise and more, the property is amazing, the location is perfect, the bed was very comfortable and the house has everything you could ever need for an extended stay. We are only sorry that we spent so much time hiking and sitting by the fire pit that we really didn't spend hardly any time inside the Lodge. We will definitely be back.

Woodland Valley Lodge is Great!
Family of 6 adults had a fantastic stay at Woodland Valley Lodge over the Labor Day weekend. The house is that perfect combination of rustic, but with updated kitchen and baths and it was exceptionally clean. The property is gorgeous and it was exactly what we hoped for. Even had a bear sighting! Owners were very helpful, including an extensive welcome packet that gave us great tips on how to enjoy the area. Highly recommend.

Kevin and Robin maintain a great property in a great neighborhood. We loved the house and location. The surrounding area was spectacular and was a great escape from NYC. We loved the creek and the fire pit at night. The house works splendidly, has everything you need and doesn't fall short on anything.

An Enchanting Haven We'll Never Forget
This is a uniquely magical retreat that our family will remember for some time. Set at the base of a majestic Catskill mountain and steps from a roaring, crystal clear stream, this charming home satisfied every rustic want we could have imagined.
If you're looking for an escape to another time and place, this is it.

Lovely Catskills Hideaway
Terrific secluded catskills retreat. Old house so small bedrooms but living room, kitchen, and dining/sun room are so nice to occupy. Great base for exploring the area around Phoenicia, which is my favorite part of the Catskills.
I set up in the dining/sun room as my office as I worked the mornings I was there. It was an awesome place to work, with the breeze and creek sound and sun coming through the windows.
Mild criticism: yard was a wee bit overgrown. But Im here in September after a sumner of growth.
Also, path to the fire pit is bit treacherous for those not completely abled, like my friend on crutches. My elderly mom could not get down there. Also, there is a door in the kitchen to the side of the house which was locked shut. Meaning you have to walk out the front and around to get from the kitchen to the bbq and outdoor table. Not a probkem for most, but annoying if you are on crutches . Please just open that door.
All in all, we decided we want a place just like it for our family retreat.

Perfect place for a weekend in the Catskills...even if raining!
My family and I had the loveliest time staying at the lodge for our wet weekend in the Catskills. It was cozy, well equipped and totally authentic. Kevin was great at getting back to us with any questions. Kids adored the bear cave, creek & campfire. Adults loved the hikes, evenings by the fire and fact that kids were outside having an awesome time. Thanks again Kevin & Robin.

Perfect and comfortable stay at The Lodge
My family and I spent the week of Thanksgiving at The Lodge this year. We loved it! The Lodge more than comfortably fit the 6 of us with room to spare while still feeling cozy. It was extremely clean, beds were lovely with warm blankets - which we needed as temperatures outside were freezing! It was too early in the season for skiing so we just took it easy. The quaint town of Phoenicia just down the road supplies most basic groceries, a liquor store and firewood, with a larger grocery stores and farm stands within 20 minutes.
Our family loved the fireplace in the main room and gathered to relax, read and play games. We also made full-use of the kitchen for some meals and our Thanksgiving dinner. We found everything we needed to cook and enjoyed the dining area off of the back of the kitchen. The room has wrap-around windows that look over the stream behind the house. When we did leave the house, some of our favorite spots were the Woodstock Brewery and the Phoenicia Diner.
Kevin and Robin were extremely communicative and responsive - perfect hosts. You can tell that they put a lot of thought into the organization of the house and many details. We would definitely return to The Lodge in the future. It's an ideal place in any season.

Lovely Streamside Retreat
The house is spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and user friendly. The hosts were very accommodating and we enjoyed our stay. It would have been perfect in better weather but we were there during a week of extreme heat. There are only two fans and they are both in the upstairs bedrooms. Many of the windows do not have screens and cannot be opened. Ceiling fans would be a great improvement as well as more window screens. It’s a lovely home but these issues need to be addressed to make sure guests enjoy their stay even in hot weather.

Wish there were more than 5 stars!
The Woodland Valley Lodge was amazing! We couldn't have asked for a better fit for our party of six adult siblings celebrating a Birthday. The home was a perfect mix of old charm and modern amenities. We were in awe of the space from the minute we walked through the door. No surprise - everything was as stated in the description. Comfortable cozy beds, well equipped kitchen, super clean, and lots of room for all. We had planned on eating out our first night but decided to eat in because we were so comfortable and didn't want to leave the house. We enjoyed a long walk up the road, exploring the backyard stream, drives through neighboring towns, as well as the charming village of Phonecia. Our two night stay seemed to last so much longer because we were so relaxed and comfortable! The owners are extremely thoughtful hosts and were quick to respond to any questions I had when booking the property. This is definitely a home I would hope to rent again!
