About this house rental
This large log home features soaring ceilings and fantastic water and woods views. Comfortably sleeps 20 with 10 bedrooms and 6 beautiful baths. Custom kitchen, leather furniture, large screen TV. 200 waterfront feet and 15 acres of land provide rare privacy on a sand bottom, clear lake. Great swimming, skiing boating, tubing, canoeing and fishing. Kusel Lake is in Waushara County and is a 90+ acre lake (including southest added are).
Enjoy a day on the water followed by grilling on the 2 tiered deck overlooking the lake followed by a campfire on the flagstone patio. Great hiking, biking and wildlife viewing. Many golf courses available within 20 minute drive.
Sorry, but no pets. A family member is highly allergic to pet dander.
Please note that the cleaning fee is charged at $35/hour and averages $300-350. There is a $1000 refundable security deposit that the cleaning fee comes out of with the balance returned once I receive the cleaning bill. The site lists the refundable security deposit as a cleaning fee, but it works as described above.
From mid-June to mid-August I rent friday to friday only bc that is the day my cleaners, lawn mowers, and handyman work at my place. For the first two weeks of June if you are interested in different check-in and check-out days, please inquire. Memorial day and Labor day weekends are 4 day rentals minimum.
Waushara County requires I obtain and retain for one year the name, address, telephone number and signature of every adult renter: since I hold a License to rent my cottage, and my cottage is inspected for safety, etc. per County rules. As such, after booking I email you the Rental Agreement on the site with your name and dates inserted so you can easily email forward it to your group for filling out and signing by each adult and return to me of signature pages. I know its an inconvenience but required by Waushara County for all Licensed Tourist Rental Houses. After receiving a booking request, I have to verify the number of renters and ages: or I can't accept the booking request.
The Rental Agreement has a liability release required by my insurance company for all renters to sign to release me from liability for any accidents of renters. All signatures are due back to me 90 days after booking.

David the owner met us at the cabin at the beginning of our stay. He showed us around and explained how everything works. The AC worked great and we were comfortable at all times. We have a large family: 25 people including me and my wife, our 4 children and their spouses, and 15 grandchildren between the ages of 3-12.
We never felt crowded.
The kids enjoyed the game room downstairs and the adults had plenty of space to relax. We had BBQ;s, roasted marshmallows, and enjoyed the lake.
The home had a row boat, 4 kayaks, life vests for the little ones, and the sandy beach was ideal. A fantastic week !!!

Huge, well appointed lake home on a quiet, scenic lake. Plenty of room to spread out and relax. Sandy beach, dock and raft for play!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the cabin! it had plenty of room for our large group! We really appreciated the large kitchen and living room for hanging out during the rainy weather. The only complaint we had was there were some repairs that needed to be done on the cabin that would have made our stay just a bit better.

Stayed there with 7 other friends in March. Beautiful property and surroundings, and a very comfortable home. Planning to be back next year.

Gorgeous lake home with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy! Small sandy beach for younger kids and a floating platform for the older ones. All the necessities we needed were there. We enjoyed the time together!

We had a lovely family reunion here. Plenty of space, a quiet, remote location (but not too far from grocery stores and restaurants), and a nice lake for swimming and kayaking. Dave is a very personable host and went out of his way to help us get acclimated.

We had a nice time and enjoyed the property. There wasn't anything negative in that respect.
However, the host's handling of the cleaning fee left a really bad taste in our mouths, and we won't be renting here again. The rental contract states that "The security deposit will be returned no later than twenty-five (25) days after the end of Rental Period to Renters, with any damage costs of cleaning costs required taken out of the security deposit." On December 8th, 24 days after our last day at the home, I still hadn't received the cleaning fee refund, nor had I heard anything from the owner about it. I messaged the owner, who said that his cleaner was sick and unable to clean the home, but he would ask about the estimated cleaning costs and send a check for the difference, then another after the cleaning was done. I received that check five days later. 11 days after that, I sent a message to ask if there were any more updates on the final amount. He told me he reached out to the cleaners' billing person but hadn't heard back. Two days later he said that he sent the final check and the cleaning bill in the mail, and nine days after that (yesterday, 52 days after our final day at the rental) I finally received it.
While I appreciate that he was willing to send some of the refund based on an estimate, I do wish there was some communication beforehand. We split the costs of this rental between a large group of friends, which caused a lot of headache when we didn't know what was happening with the cleaning fee. Even a short message explaining the situation proactively would have been great.

The owner, Dave was great at communication and overall a very nice person! Thank you!

Our family had a group of 18 ranging in age from 1 year old to
great-grandparents and we all had a great time. It was a very comfortable space for that many people. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The only thing I would have liked to have was more chairs at the dinning room table so we could all eat together. We ate in shifts and it worked fine so it wasn't a big deal. Overall it was a very comfortable place. and a great experience. We would rent the house again

My family (14 adults, 6 kids) stayed over Labor Day weekend and had a wonderful experience! So much space - a bed for each person, plenty of play room for the kids, a large yard, and room for everyone at the beach. The beach is shallow with a small sand area which was perfect for our little ones. The house was spacious enough so the kids could sleep while the adults could play games and hang out without fear of waking them up. Dave was a great communicator and made us feel like we could reach out with any questions. Everyone in my family remarked how great the house was and we are working on plans to stay again!

We rented the property for a family vacation. It was great having a stocked kitchen for making big family meals. Having a dock with kayaks and a paddle board made hanging out on the lake great. Sandy Beach down at the water was awesome! Shallow sandy areas for wading and some deeper areas for jumping off the floating dock.

Secluded, private waterfront. Loved the roominess for everyone to spread out. Enjoyed water …swimming, kayaking, water skiing, relaxing by water. Also enjoyed bonfires, playing board games, playing sports at nearby park. Blessed with great weather!

20 of our family stayed there, from 3 months, to past 70 and every decade in between. They all loved the home, the beach, the fishing, the sand, all of it. There was an abundant room for all to be and do what they wanted and we would come together for meals and cards. My family wishes to go there another year just to be together!!
Thanks David for an awesome week .

Stayed here with a group of guys who've been doing a winter trip for almost 20 years. This was the nicest place we've found in this area of WI that can fit our group, and we thought the location and the house itself were all great. The property is very well cared for and a relaxing place to hang out. Plenty of room for our group of 12. We plan to return again in the future.

My family and I had a wonderful time at this beautiful and spacious cabin. The rooms upstairs were pretty cold during this winter/early spring stay but overall our experience was great.

This was our second time coming back to Dave’s property, and again it was a great place to host our group of 13! Lots of room to relax together and all sit around the huge table for meals. The sandy beach is perfect for enjoying the water right off the dock.

The house offered the best spot on the lake for swimming especially for the kids... the rooms were spaced out enough for the people that wanted to go to bed early... The living room was very wide open so we all could hang out in there!

Our family of 13 - and growing - had a great time here. There was no shortage of space for everyone to sleep, spread out, and enjoy themselves comfortably. All the kids (and adults) enjoyed hanging out at the pier during the day. The sandy beach and shallow water out to the pier was perfect for all the kids, aged 6 and under. The kitchen was spacious to do all our own cooking every meal and the second fridge in the garage was critical. Dave helped us identify some local spots to purchase firewood and get groceries, all within a 10-15 minute drive. We're looking forward to coming back in 2022!

Our one week family reunion for 24 people ranging in age from 1-66 years old was fantastic. The property was quiet and secluded on the small 74-acre Kusel Lake. Kayaks and paddle boards were provided which were perfect on this calm lake. The dock area has a sandy bottom which the children enjoyed as they jumped off the end of the dock. Well-appointed kitchen to make meals for large groups (which we did a lot of meal preparation as there are few quality restaurants nearby). The house was very clean and had plenty of room for everyone including sleeping arrangements. I would NOT rent Mr. Winkel’s 27-year-old jet ski, as it performed erratically during our frustrating 3-day rental period. Otherwise, I highly recommend this property.

My extended family of 16 had a wonderful vacation at David’s beautiful house! There was room for everyone. We boated, fished and played games. When there was a problem David responded very quickly. Our week in this lovely home was terrific.

Lovely home on a small but fun lake. Very “up north” feel! Thank you

I cannot even begin to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay at this property. We were an extended family looking for a low key getaway. There were 12 of us (9 adults, a 10 yo, 9 yo and 3 yo including an 8 month pregnant mom). This home had more than enough space for all of us - we could have easily slept more than 20 people comfortably. The kids all had their own rooms and loved it. The dock and lake are very lovely for June - the temperature was perfect. We took advantage of the jet ski, kayaks, paddleboard and fishing boat during our stay - there were plenty of life vests for our entire crew. The owner is as safety conscious as we are and we appreciated the "safe" fun. Not once did anyone ask to do something off property. A few notes for our stay...1 - the kitchen is huge and well stocked with dishes and plates. If you need something specific for your cooking, best to bring it with you. But cups, plates, etc are not required.2 - We brought a week's worth of groceries with us, but there is a well stocked grocery less than 10 minutes from the house. That didn't appear in our searches of the area, but it definitely met the needs of our group.3 - We used the firepit every night for smores - be sure to bring wood or plan to buy it from the local stores to do this.4 - We did encounter a few ticks and leeches - nothing too significant and definitely out of the control of the owner, but something to plan for when coming with small children that crawl in the rocks and under the dock. There was conveniently a shower right inside the door to the house and our crew easily adapted to the incoming "leech and tick" checks on our way in. Not a big deal at all and did not hinder our enjoyment of the lake.5 - the great room on the main floor had plenty of space for our crew to come in for the hot afternoon and watch a group movie.I cannot recommend this property enough. The group that stayed immediately prior to us did some property damage, but Dave was immediately on it and had everything in good working order for our stay. Thanks so much for taking such good care of our family!Kim

Our group wanted to get away for a long winter weekend and we couldn't have picked a better property. The house was perfect with it's grand open living room and beautiful fireplace. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The view from every spot in the house is outstanding. We watched ice fisherman, deer and an amazing snowfall all from the living room. We would come back in a second!

What an amazing house! The layout is perfect and spacious. We found everything we needed and it was in a great location. Nordic Mountain ski area was just 6 miles away. Dave responded quickly with any questions. Great experience. Would definitely book again.

We had an excellent time. It was just what my family and I needed to be in a bubble and enjoy ourselves. The house is beautiful and the decoration and structure was a good conversation starter. Definitely would love to come back.

Our annual family get together with my wife’s family members was again a success with this spacious and “upnorth” home. It was a bonus for me since it was so close to my childhood camp I spent a few summers at, LuWiSoMo. The home was cozy het had so some room for all 11 of us. We wish the weather would have been better but at least we got one good day. On a couple cold nights, it was difficult to get the temperature upstairs warm enough but not a big deal since there were plenty of warm blankets. We definitely enjoyed our stay. Thank you for opening up your home.

Thank you so much for sharing your home. We really enjoyed being right on the lake! There is enough room to have 5 different families here and still enjoy your privacy. The kids could make noise playing ping-pong downstairs and we could not hear them on the other side of the house, just perfect! The kitchen and dinning area was big enough for our whole group to have meals together and the entire house is very comfortable for all. Please update your site photo of the beach front green area because, due to the storm a year ago, it is in large part gone and very unusable. The other huge plus is, that we enjoyed using the multiple kayaks and the kids loved the sand bottom lake and swimming platform! Thanks again, already planning our next trip!
