6 of us, 2 grandparents, 2 parents and 2 twin 4 yr olds, stayed here over the LD weekend. We had all stayed here 2 years ago. Ive stayed in lots of vacation rentals over the years and it is hard to think of a better one than Sarah's place. Many places always seem to lack something. This place has it all. Fully stocked kitchen and pantry- from pots, pans, food storage bags, lots of seasonings in pantry, plenty of coffee etc. Tons, I mean tons of games- both indoor and outdoor. Down stairs playroom for younger kids (Our grandkids especially liked the age appropriate puzzles), sun room, big yard with a fire pit. Plenty of towels. Nothing is missing. Sarah is extremely easy to communicate with. Offered us flexibility with check-in and checkout. The location is a little off the beaten path but that's the point. Still 10 minutes from Phoenicia but tucked away near hiking trails. Lots for all ages to do in the area. Hope to return again.

We’ve been coming here since 2018. It’s great. Sarah is quite responsive if there is a problem.

Secluded but not far from the main road, in a beautiful part of the Catskills. Big, comfortable house with plenty of room and different spaces including a great basement for the kids. Porch and firepit are great additions.

Our kids were at Fox Den as teenagers yearly for a week of games, swimming, hiking, reading, mountain biking, ice-cream, cooking, ......
This year they returned as adults:
“So grateful to have spent yet another piece of summer in such a beautiful environment! After a brief hiatus over the past couple of years, it was so lovely to be around old friends and family in a place we all love so dearly. Walking around the Fox Den and reliving countless memories that we have built together over the years was so so special and I’m incredibly grateful to have stayed in such a warm home!
“Such a cozy home! So special to feel like a kid again with all the games, nature, and sunlight”.
“Fox Den was incredibly clean, well stocked and so organized (from the extra towels and supplies in closets to the rental information booklet)”
“Loved sitting on the porch, reading, and seeing and hearing the birds flitting around”.
Thank you!!!

This cabin was a fantastic home base for our ~2week stay upstate. Tucked peacefully away on the mountain side, it felt like we had this corner of the Catskills to ourselves (while you can occasionally see and hear some of the neighbors, we felt like the location all the way at the top of the drive was awesome for peace and quiet. We were fairly close to Phoenicia, and just a short drive between larger towns like Margaretville or Woodstock, as well as a myriad of hiking options.
The home was clean and well stocked - awesome cooking/bakeware, pantry supplies, herbs/spices, games, books, throw blankets, firewood etc and generous essentials like towels/toiletries/toilet paper etc for the duration of our stay. Bedrooms were large, with lots of closet space. Hosts were also super responsive for any questions we had. We loved using the fireplace many nights, as well as the large screened porch and appreciated that the unit was dog friendly!
The only thing we felt was missing was a bit more furniture outdoors/ near the firepit. Chairs in front of the home were lovely to relax on, but we didnt want to drag them back and forth from the yard, and had wished there was a good outdoor entertaining space, besides just the screened in porch. But we spent most of our time out and about exploring the area, so it did not take away much from our stay!

Rustic, well-equipped and cozy! We encountered a couple of small issues (I.e. the microwave died suddenly) and it was replaced within a few hours. We cooked a huge thanksgiving meal and there was great cooking/prep space and plenty of serving pieces. Would love to visit this property again in the spring when everything is in full bloom!

This is our third year coming to this property for annual ski weekend. Location is great for skiing at Belleayre. House is wonderful, great space for family/friends to enjoy time together but kids also enjoyed having their own space in basement. Kitchen well stocked with appliances (microwave, dishwasher, toaster), dishes, kitchen utensils, whatever you need for meal prep. Owners provide clear instructions and communication was great!

We had a really terrific Fall weekend at the Fox Den cabin in Shandaken, NY. The cabin was wonderful, with three bedrooms, plus a downstairs playroom with bunks for kids, plus a queen bed for parents. There is also a king bed on the 2nd floor. Plenty of sleeping space for everyone!
Also, the living room is a beautiful place to hang out with friends and family. We had our son and his family with us for the weekend. We built fires in the beautiful stone fireplace, which made the entire space warm and cozy for all of us. Our granddaughter, who's 6 years old, loved the downstairs play room. She slept in the lower bunk, and her mom slept in the queen bed.
We loved two restaurants in the area -- Brio's Pizza in Phoenicia and J Rocco's in Shandaken. Both were fun places to eat, with really great staff and comfortable seating areas. And both are reasonably close to the Fox Den cabin.
We also enjoyed our visit to the Fall Festival on Belleayre Mountain. We rode the gondola up the mountain, and the views were spectacular! It was a great place to be on a lovely Fall day in the Catskills.
Overall, this cabin is a great place to stay for a really great weekend. The owner is easy to reach, and the cabin itself is comfortable, beautiful, and surrounded by trees and wildlife. The kitchen is great, with a Keurig machine, K-cups, a toaster, a microwave, and tons of plates, glasses, pots, and pans. It's a great cabin in a great location. For us, it was a perfect weekend!

The cabin is wonderful! The size worked for our group of 4, but could easily accommodate a larger group. Our group was all adults, but the downstairs area would be perfect kids too.
The furnishings are comfortable and inviting. The kitchen is exceptionally stocked in terms of cooking needs. The cabin is well sticked with books and games. The location is quiet and serene and it was a joy to just sit and read in the sunroom and front porch. But it is also close to activities including great hikes (my favorite activity) and access to towns (my husband and kids went to Woodstock and my husband took a ride to Oneonta (his alma mater). We passed by other activities that would be family friendly, such as Belleayre Beach and Rail Explorers. We are already talking about a return trip!

The property is beautiful and perfect for a multi-generation family vacation. The owners thought of every little detail to make vacation perfect and easy including a fully stocked kitchen, crib, booster seat, toys and puzzles. Definitely encourage others to book this hidden gem.

The Fox Den Cabin was very comfortable for four of us over a long Thanksgiving weekend. It was easy to find and just out of the way enough to feel secluded but not isolated. Everything was great. Communication with Sarah was easy and she was very accommodating with check-in/check-out. I’ve not stayed at a VRBO with such strong reviews before but they are well-deserved!

This was our second time at the Fox Den! And we were as happy and grateful as last time.
There were 8 adults, one child and one dog and everyone enjoyed this lovely home in their own manner. The kitchen has EVERYTHING, which is why we came back. Close to hike trails, clean, quiet, spacious and cozy.
Thank you for sharing your home with us! See you in a year!

I've been renting cabins for 30 years. This is by far the nicest cabin and the most professional and responsive owner/host I've ever dealt with. This has the conveniences of a modern home in spacious rooms; it's incredibly well stocked and appointed, but it still retains all the charm of a log cabin. Highest recommendation!

We stayed at the Fox Den while celebrating our daughter's wedding at the Foxfire Mountain House. The wedding party stayed there and we stayed - 5 adults- at this location. It was perfect! The house is more beautiful and spacious than the photos depict. We built a cozy fire in the fireplace. It was really a wonderful home located less than 15 minutes from the wedding venue.

Cabin was comfortable and all kitchen needs were good. Firewood provided and nice bottle of wine left for us. Very quiet area, great for sleeping in, but if you’re needing to eat out or get groceries, these are not close by. Also renters should know that many places are closed on Tuesday & Wed.

Exceeded Expectations
Ive stayed at a lot of vacation rentals over the years and this just might be the best. There were 6 of us- my wife and I (64+) son and daughter in law and our 2 twin grandsons aged 2. The house has everything you need and more. Tucked away a little off the beaten path, the house has a huge downstairs playroom for young kids, comfortable beds, very large sitting room with both counter seating and a good size dining table. Often when we stay at vacation rentals, we wish there were more pots and pans, seasonings, glasses, cutlery etc. Not here. You could have a banquet every night and have plenty of stuff to cook in. Really liked the fact that there was lots of coffee and they had backup. They also had a large sun room the kids could play in and we could sit and read and 1 night had dinner on the table there. We used their BBQ, played bocce on their very large yard (lots of room for the boys to run) and used the firepit to make s'mores. Extremely easy to communicate with. Short drive to Phoenicia. Lots of hiking nearby. Tons of games for kids and adults. Pretty much anything you could need they had. Our kids told us that they have stayed in several area vacation rentals and this was their favorite.. I should mention our kids brought their small dog and that went just fine. Sarah was easy to communicate with and sent us well written instruction and let us have an early check-in. It would not surprise us if we were to return next year and stay longer. In fairness I should mention that you can hear noise from upstairs but it never bothered us. Highly recommend

This is the second time we have rented this house. It is very well maintained and has all the amenities needed to make our stay comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could conceivably need to cook a meal. The place is truly " turnkey".

Perfect!
This house was perfect for our ski getaway with our family. Sarah was an absolute pleasure to work with. She even offered us to come the night before because there was an impending storm. She allows pets and this was the first time we brought our dog and he was very comfortable in the house and his surrounding as well. The house was very clean and had everything we needed and more! We will definitely be looking into coming back with friends for an adult getaway.

Great Experience
I think the cabin is even nicer in person. The scenery from the sunroom in particular is great on a snowy day. While it's nicely located it also isn't too far from nearby towns if you need anything.

Perfect getaway
I went to the cabin with my boyfriend and I have to say, even tho it I has a lot of beds that can sleep a lot of people, it was still perfect for just the two of us as well. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed especially since we both love to cook. We made all meals in the house. The house was very clean and organized nicely. The wood burning fireplace was what made the trip even more perfect. We will be booking this cabin again and soon.

Beautiful house, great location, rainy weekend
It rained much more than we had expected which put a damper on our plans, but you can't possibly be unhappy in a house like this. Clean, spacious and has everything you need to have a good time. Sarah is a fantastic host with great communication. We plan to come back and hopefully have better weather.

Amazing cabin in an amazing location.
We rented this cabin for four nights in early November. The owner was great at communicating with us before our stay and was available if we needed anything (which we didn't) during our stay. This is the most well-equipped place we have ever rented. Since it is a remote location, we cooked most meals in the cabin, and this is the first place that had all of the basic kitchen tools, pots, pans, etc. we needed. It is also very well maintained and well-appointed, with plenty of attention to detail throughout. The fireplace was very nice, and the owner provided firewood. It is within walking distance to the Fox Hollow Trailhead for Panther Mountain, but be advised it is a very steep and rocky trail. There are plenty of other trail options within a very short drive though. We will likely consider this property for future stays.

Fabulous Cabin, Beautiful Setting, Wonderful Get-a-way
We were a group of four looking for a relaxing, cozy get-a-way and we had five fabulous days in this well-appointed cabin. Cabin was clean and well supplied. Very cozy and warm with a great roomy layout in a peaceful location. Lots of games, books, puzzles and interesting maps and art on the walls. Kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and baking, and enjoyed using the grill. The fireplace was a big plus considering it rained much of the time we were there, and we appreciated all the wood under the house. Internet service was fast and reliable. Location is great also. It's a two minute drive to some nice hiking trails and less than 30 minutes to Woodstock. Sarah was quick to respond to any questions we had. Highly recommend this cabin. Would love to come back!
