About this cottage rental
White Fence of Suttons Bay is a truly unique vacation property. The property is a compilation of restored circa 1900 farm buildings just one block south of one of the most quaint villages in the Upper Midwest. The Village of Suttons Bay has deluxe shopping, art galleries and excellent restaurants abound. White Fence of Suttons Bay is within walking distance of it all and centrally located for touring all of scenic Leelanau County and its multitude of wineries, fine restaurants, charming villages and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park.
White Fence is a small and quiet property which has been meticulously renovated. The guest suite is artfully done with privacy, quiet and magnificent views of the bay kept in mind. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with seating areas throughout including private decks on the beach. Night star gazing is memorable. Although we love pets and children, the carriage house suites is not designed for either.
Directly across the street from White Fence is a gourmet grocery store which specializes in local produce and houses an extensive wine selection where the sommelier can describe to you the award-winning local wines. There is an outdoor kitchen area at White Fence with a charcoal grill should you decide to cook and hot plate for sautéing and boiling.
Also directly across the street, is the Leelanau Trail, an extensive biking, walking and running trail. It offers miles of scenic enjoyment. In the winter months, the Trail is groomed for cross country skiing.
White Fence was originally opened for business on July 4th, 2010. The new owners are permanent residents of Suttons Bay and our aim is to maintain the beauty and tranquility that has been pleasing guests since the beginning.

We liked how close this location was to our own private beach, bike trail, shopping and restaurants. We kayaked and biked everyday and took short trips to wineries. We had a great time!

Selfishly, I'd really rather that this location remain a secret for my personal use as it is a real gem. Everything listed by the host is true but they did not convey how wonderful the space/location is. We enjoyed numerous sunrises and sunsets at the water front and short walks as all that was necessary to go for food and/or shopping.
Best of all was the hosts were very accommodating and pleasant to interact with. We kept the windows open so we could enjoy the cool, northern Michigan evenings but it also meant that it could get too cool inside the unit. Instead of shutting windows and turning on heat the hosts brought by some additional blankets to make sitting and reading very comfortable and snuggly. (BTW the robes were really comfortable as well.)
Please stay here (except for when I want to stat there.)

Clean, cozy spot to get away. Hosts are responsive and helpful. I would definitely take their suggestion #14 on their welcome letter to the hiking trail and all the food suggestions are on par (with many walkable from cottage).
This may turn into a yearly destination for us.

My husband booked the carriage house as part of our 50th anniversary celebration. We loved it. The location, view and design of the cottage made for a perfect weekend. I hope to be back for our 51st year-if not sooner.

The Carriage House at White Fence is a charming place for a couple visiting Suttons Bay. My wife and I stayed here several years ago with the prior owners and stayed again recently. It was just as cozy as we remembered and is in a perfect location to explore all that the Leelanau peninsula has to offer. We spent a day making a loop from Suttons Bay to Glen Arbor and back through Leland before returning. Lots of charming wineries and shops to explore and the view of the bay from the house can't be beat. When we next find ourselves in the area we will definitely look to stay here again.

Had an absolutely perfect weekend despite not having the best weather. So many things within walking distance. Quaint downtown area and some great restaurants nearby. Shirley was very welcoming and was available to answer any questions. Will be visiting again!

This property is beautiful. The location is perfect!! Town is a short walk away but we didn’t want to leave the water!! Would definitely recommend. Owner is very responsive and offered an earlier check in for us even without us asking :)

The cottage house was perfect for our anniversary getaway. Great space in all rooms and a view that is amazing. We would definitely recommend this place to others.
The dock/sitting area for the cottage house is not great, but we were able to use the main beach that is generally reserved for renters of the main house. Guests can use the main beach when there are no renters staying at the main home on the property.
We were surprised by how perfect the location is. We were a small walk away from a great local brewery, the trail, and downtown. There is also a great little grocery store nearby.
We also had good communication from the host as well.
Don't hesitate to stay here!

This little carriage house was clean and well-maintained. The view of the water was beautiful, the beach in front was great, and the location was close to everything (Suttons Bay, Traverse City, Northport, Fishtown/Leland, the wineries). We had a terrific stay.

This is one of my all-time favorite rentals. And I've rented quite a few over the years. It was a solo getaway. And the carriage house is just what I needed. Mike was quick to respond when needed but didn't hover. Nicely decorated, cozy, and clean with a fantastic view! Thanks Mike

This is a great rental if you are looking for a relaxing, scenic trip on Lake Michigan. The carriage house was clean and provided everything we needed for our stay. The check-in process was easy, and we never had to worry about meeting with anyone to gain access to the property. We especially enjoyed sitting by the fire overlooking Lake Michigan in the evenings. Suttons Bay is located between many different interesting towns and cities, so there is always something new to see within a 20 minute drive.

The White Fence Carriage House was cozy and charming, just perfect for a couple. It overlooks the bay and is a short walk from everything you could want: a grocery store, multiple restaurants, even a craft brewery. We stayed during the winter, and I imagine this spot is even more magical in summertime!

This was our second stay at the Carriage House and it was just as good as the first! The restored Carriage House is beautiful and has an amazing view. Cute cottage feel, well laid out and accessible, Electric baseboard would be easier to control if each room had a thermostat.
In cold weather the place has a musty smell but after turning the heat up and airing it out most of the smell was gone.
We had a great time and feel it was worth every $.
Except for the musty smell the place was clean.
I would rent it again.
Get rid of the carpet and put down a good vinyl plank flooring.

If you are in SB off season, and need a place to stay for 2 people, the white fence cottage is perfect. Walkable to town, brewery, and the grocery. It's cozy and very clean with an up to date decor, appliances, tv's, etc. Wifi worked great - communication and check in was seamless.
