This part of the Big Island turned out to be my favorite. It's uncrowded, laid back, cooler than the rest of the island, and oh so beautiful. The hosts were warm and friendlly and gave me amazing advice on what to do. The rooms were filled with Donna's gorgeous photography. This was a special and unforgettable stay.

What a lovely and peaceful property! Truly a retreat. The views are spectacular and our hosts were, too!

The beautiful grounds are an oasis and a wonderful retreat after a day at the beach.
Donna and Kevin are wonderful hosts and a wealth of knowledge for activities in the area.

When planning our stay, I didn't realize the main living area is a converted garage with the sleeping and bathroom areas separate (you need to go outside to go between). The kitchen has a full fridge and a good number of appliances but is just a single counter without a stove in a relatively dark room. To get good light you need the garage door open which isn't particularly feasible when it's stormy and is far from private as it's opens onto the main driveway.
The weather was very stormy while we were there so we spent each day driving to other parts of the island and only returning at night as there wasn't a nice place to relax if you couldn't relax outdoors.
The farm property is lovely with nice views and lots of fresh fruit. The owners are friendly and will stop by each day to check on you and recommend activities.

Our new little slice of heaven on the North end of the Big Island! Kevin and Donna are gracious hosts, knowledgable of all things local and pleasant to be around. The grounds are an extra bonus for us as we appreciate the fauna, landscape and new birds to identify! The orange blossom fragrance on the property was epic and surreal. We will be back again and again.

The property offers expansive and gorgeous views while relaxing in unique and thoughtfully creative spaces. We enjoyed the large rooms and wonderful artwork. Our hosts greeted us with a warmth and inclusiveness that was unexpected and lovely, providing insights into the area that were so interesting - we are very glad we found "Always in Season" and would love to stay again.

We truly enjoyed our stay here. The grounds are beautiful, and we loved walking around them. The entry says it all as you drive in through a lush forest. We felt at-home, and our hosts were very personable, and made us feel so welcome, along with their sweet dogs and cat! Be aware that that the kitchen and laundry room are in the garage with a working garage door. Fairly well stocked, but not for cooking on a true stove/oven. But that's fine as long as you don't need them, and you can use the grill, though we preferred eating out in the two nearby towns for lunch or dinner. Such a sweet place to call home in between snorkeling, hiking, and exploring this beautiful area.

A literal paradise
5-stars, can't wait to come back, we didn't want to leave. Kevin and Donna are gracious hosts with an abundance of aloha. The space is exceptionally comfortable and well-appointed with every small touch and detail considered to provide top notch hospitality. Beautiful views of the ocean and Maui, close to charming Hawi town, situated on the enchanting Kohala coast, fruit trees and birdsong.... The property is a slice of heaven in a magical part of the big island, this wonderful gem simply can't be captured in words or pictures.

Perfection in Paradise
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous location in Havi. If you like plants the grounds are quite lush with beautiful plantings. It was quite and private and the hosts were very friendly and helpful offering to mail some of the clothes we accidentally left in the dryer. We definitely would stay here again.

Tranquility Base
Donna and Kevin could have been better and more helpful hosts. The property and neighbourhood was beautiful, lush, full of tropical plants with beautiful night skies, ocean views and if clear, reach out and touch Maui. Room very large and comfortable with an even larger kitchen and lounge area inside not to mention lawn area with table and benches and lounge chairs for relaxing. Would we stay here again? In a heart beat. Mahalo Donna and Kevin....Aloha

Stunning
This property was a slice of paradise. It was beautifully maintained and tastefully decorated. It was three of the most peaceful days we have spent on the Big Island. The owner was very knowledgable and made us feel at home from start to finish. The bed was very comfortable and the weather during our stay was beautiful. I will gladly refer my friends to this little gem and highly recommend it.

Thank YOU so much for providing such a unique and lovely experience for us. The fruit was so over the top delicious. Your place is amazing and so is Kohala. We will be back for a longer visit next year. Give Chester the dog a milk bone from us. We so appreciate you taking us on a hike to those beautiful bluffs.

Wonderful place to be
Paradise ! Donna, the owner, is a delightful & helpful hostess. Gave us delicious fruits from their property & is a wealth of information of area. A safe & quiet place with great view & close to Hawi, an artsy place with a great farmers market. The Hub is a wonderful place to eat & the shops are fun & not far to jump in the ocean

Hawi stay
This was the perfect place for us to stay in hawi. Setting was beautiful, Donna was gracious and helpful and we made good use of the kitchen-dinning area set up in the garage. The garage area is more like a covered lanai, we could sit and watch the birds and enjoy a view of the garden while it was raining. We were close to town and I recommend the Bamboo restaurant.

Beautiful, peaceful hideaway
A wonderful spot from which to explore the north and northwest areas of the island, away from resort-land. Donna was a gracious, easygoing host, quick to offer excellent advice about where to roam and where to eat. She was terrific with our toddler, who now keeps talking about wanting to go to "Donna's house." We had free rein to explore the property, pick fruit, and make our own fresh juice. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and extraordinarily quiet. The open-air living room/kitchen area were unusual but easy to get used to. And when we discovered we'd made an accident with our booking (short-changing ourselves a night), Donna was completely accommodating and set us up in her additional guest space, which featured an outdoor shower with hot water that we absolutely LOVED.

Wonderful and peaceful getaway from the usual condo/beach stay.
My wife and I truly enjoyed a taste of "rural" Big Island living. We weren't there long enough but really appreciated the hospitality of our hosts. The bedroom and bath were very comfortable. The "kitchen/dining area" in the garage was a bit different but well supplied and worked very well.
We'd recommend staying here for a taste of more "real" Hawaii living and we plan to return. It's well situated to take in attractions of the north of the Big Island and still be close enough to the great beaches in the Kohala district.
Sushi Rock restaurant in Hawi was terrific.

Absolutely Enjoyable Always In Season
We were very impressed with our stay at "Always In Season" and would highly recommend it to others. It was our first time on the Big Island of Hawaii. We were in Hawi for a wedding and spent four nights there. Donna and Kevin were very gracious hosts and attentive to our questions and needs. They checked in with us every day to provide suggestions for activities and ways to have an enjoyable time in the Hawi area. We loved the hiking ,snorkeling, and park suggestions. Having fresh fruit-oranges, grapefruit, lemons, bananas and papaya every day from their bounteous garden was a real treat! There was a fruit juicer and blender in the kitchen, so we were able to make our protein smoothies every day. We enjoyed eating the fruit without juicing as well as it was so sweet and juicy. We enjoyed having coffee outside in the morning, and a glass of wine in the evening with the wonderful view of the ocean, of their garden and sheep, and with the horses next door. The bedroom and bathroom were downright comfortable, and we had a lot of privacy. The views from the bedroom and bathroom of the garden area were lovely. The kitchen provided all the usual necessities and more. It had a sitting area and a view of the front yard if you wanted it. There was also another separate sitting room on the property to read or relax with views of the garden. All in all, we wish we had more time to spend there and will return to the wonderful Always in Season VRBO.

Perfect!
We loved our stay at Always in Season. It's hard to decide which aspect was best. I think picking fresh citrus and squeezing fresh juice was among the top. The property was lovely and quiet. We were able to relax in the privacy of the yard. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on. Donna and Kevin were lovely hosts, giving us great advice on where to go as we visited the area. I would highly recommend Always in Season and I hope to return.

Month stay - February 2016
This property was exactly as described on VRBO and the Always-in-Season Retreat personal site. A beautiful 3 acre property with varied vegetation including fruit bearing trees, a perfect site at 1500 feet elevation with views of the ocean and Maui across the channel, and comfortable evening temperatures. Our hosts Donna and Kevin were welcoming and friendly, and interesting conversationalists. We had a thoroughly relaxing month stay - the Kawi-North Kohala area has much of interest, and the 19 mile ride along the ridge to Waimea is worth doing more than once. This property is a good alternative to a resort or condo stay.

description of rental needs 'rewording'
The location is spectacular, but the view from the renter's quarters didn't have that view. From the window there was a water view. The sunsets weren't visible unless you walked through the grass & stood or brought a chair & sat in the middle of the lawn. I expected to watch the sunset from the comfort of an area inside or near the room - perhaps with a glass of wine.
The large bedroom/LR was musty-smelling & the couch fabric was worn-out/frayed in several places. It definitely is in need of some updating.
But the most disappointing of all was being shown the kitchen & dining/sitting area which is in the garage!!! They specially write about the kitchen in the description. Not my idea of a kitchen. I ate in the bedroom, as I found it positively skivvy to eat at a table with a placemat, in a garage with a washer/dryer, storage areas & a total lack of ambiance.
They're a very nice couple, but that does not diminish my disappointment in this rental.

A most enjoyable stay
We enjoyed 5 days at the “Always in Season” resort. Donna greeted us with an overflowing basket of tropical fruit and beautiful flowers from her 3-acre farm, and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There is a separate eating area well-equipped for cooking your meals, or for blending up a fruit smoothie. At 1,500 feet above the ocean, we had good views of Maui and the sunsets once the tropical storms passed (luckily the hurricanes bypassed the island). The pictures on the VRBO site well-represented the setting, which is quiet, peaceful, and lush, with fresh fruit to pick as it ripens (the bananas and papayas were tasty). The Saturday Market in Hawi was a good place to sample unusual tropical fruit, and the local coffee shop served the best iced Kona coffee. Donna was happy to provide detailed information about the local swimming spots, the markets, events in Hawi, and her favorite places to hike. It was fun to get acquainted with Chester the dog, too.

Very Quiet, Secluded, Peaceful
We stayed at this property for 2 nights in mid-July. Very quiet, peaceful, off the beaten-path, yet not that far to Hawi town. Nice sized room, bed was very comfortable. Kitchen/living room area is actually a converted garage, but it is a nice place to hang out and cook. Kitchen is not connnected to bedroom--you have to walk outside and go next door to the kitchen. Unfortunately it was very hot when we were there (the first of the 2015 hurricanes had messed with the usual trade winds) and there is no AC--which you don't usually need, but there was an overhead fan and a plug in fan in the closet which helped. Lots of dishes, guidebooks, water toys to use. I would recommend a few more cooking utensils such as spatulas and wooden spoons, but we made do. All in all, a very nice place to stay when you are in this part of the Big Island. There are apparently new caretakers but they were very nice and friendly. And we loved Chester the dog and Buddha (?) the cat!

Great Pick! Relaxing, beautiful, welcoming!
We had a great time staying at this property. We live on Island and like to get out once in a while to experience different areas. This property was so very nice - clean, well appointed, beautiful grounds, and very relaxing! Donna is awesome and very knowledgeable. She's so fun to talk to and happy to share tips about great places to hike to, things to do, places to eat, etc. The property itself is really amazing and would be especially interesting to anyone interested in farming, gardening, landscape, sustainability, etc. We are looking forward to staying there again in the future!
