Staying at the Garden Cottage was a serene and peaceful get away after losing a very dear
nephew.
Faye and family allowed my local family to come to visit and enjoy the peace and serenity of the country surrounded by the beauty of the flowers and nature.
Its fragrant scent still lingers.
Thank you

Super charming cottage! Loved being surrounded by flowers in bloom; enjoyed morning coffee in outside space.
Interior lovely with well chosen antiques/vintage appropriate items.
I was worried about white couches with a hubby and a teenager, but there were covers for protection.
We did not cook or needed a kitchen for meals, just made coffee, but could have easily done so in well equipped kitchen. No room for three to sit in kitchen, but did not need to.
Lovely stay with friendly hosts!

The location is great, the cottage cozy with enough space for 4 adults (not sure 6 would be comfortable), but there are a few reasons I gave the review a 4:
1) the hot water is so hot my husband got literal burns doing dishes not realizing the water would get that hot
2) When we arrived there were no lights anywhere. The lanterns on the stone wall by the road werent on, the porch light wasnt on, at least one inside light wasnt on. It was very dark and hard to see.
3) So SO much furniture for such a tiny place. There was furniture in every doorway making getting around the cottage very awkward. We ended up moving things to get through doorways and none of us are fat.
4) Poor arrival instructions. The welcome email does not state how to get a key (the front door was left open), or how to connect to wifi (I had to email for password). There was also no exit instructions. We did the dishes and took the trash out, which really for a $300 cleaning fee was good enough in our opinion.
4) More blankets for the beds now that it is colder would be nice. Or a throw or two for the couches to snuggle up and watch TV would be good.
But overall the stay was excellent. There is laundry on property making cleaning easy. It is close to Rt 8 making getting around CT very easy.
The property owner is very communicative, so if there’s an issue she responds quickly (we had no issue beyond not knowing the door would be left open and not knowing the wifi PW).
Also, they get a half star for having a naughty lightswitch which I appreciated. David is one of my favorite statues.
Thanks for the great stay :)

Quaint cottage
Great location. Faye accommodated us for a few extra days. We had our hardwood floors refinished and it was perfect for us checking in on our house. Pet friendly.

Adorable house on beautiful property
This cottage is adorable and charming on a large hillside property. I was in the house for a month. The owner is lovely and accessible The fenced yard is perfect for traveling with a pet and the walks down the large hill to the stream are even better. The house is comfortable as is the bed in the front bedroom. Things that make the house four star instead of five star are the mediocre quality kitchen furnishings, a noisy sump pump, mismatched and somewhat older bed linens and towels, less than abundant hot water, and an address that makes receiving deliveries in any many very challenging (too long to explain but trust me that I spent a lot of time directing UberEats, Instacart, UPS, and FedEx). Despite these imperfections, I loved my stay and would stay again if I was in the area. (With the hope that the owner would elevate the comfort and raise rices accordingly.) I’m rooting for this charming house to succeed even more than it already has.

Cozy Getaway
The cottage was the perfect little escape from NYC. Cozy fireplace, clean interior, fully stocked kitchen and a yard for the pooch. Faye went out of her way to help with any questions - even cleaning off my car when a snowstorm hit.

Cozy cottage
Our stay was very nice and the owners were very communicative and flexible when the trip needed to be adjusted by a day due to a power outage in the entire area (tropical storm came through prior to arrival). The fenced yard was great for our dog, though it is just off a busy road so there is some traffic noise at peak time.
Beds were super comfortable and fully equipped kitchen.

Would definitely stay here again.
We were in the area for a 50th high school reunion. The cottage was exactly what was presented. It was comfortable, clean and homey. A wonderful New England experience. Pretty peaceful surroundings.

Lovely Cottage in a great location
We had a great time staying in this lovely traditional cottage with lots of character in Watertown. It was very comfortable with a good bed, lcosy living room and a very well equipped kitchen. It is surrounded by a nice garden, lovely for sitting out in the sun. It is located within walking distance of Watertown centre., where there are good food shops, restaurants and bars. We ate at the local Thai restaurant where the food was outstanding. Faye and Paul were very welcoming and helpful with advice about the local area. We had a lovely day walking at the Black Rock State Park which is a few minutes drive from the property. We also visited Hammonasset , a lovely place on the coast.

very disappointing trip
I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the house and the bed in one bedroom was very uncomfortable . The house does not look like it was renovated.

The Greatest
From the time I set foot in the Cottage I was at Home. Everything was there for my perfect Stay for my 50th Class Reunion. My Plan was to have some people over and make some music and give them some great food. Everything I needed was there for the preparation of a Wonderful Night with some of my Class Members of Darien High School Class of 1968... We set up Band Practice in the Living room of the Cottage and there was plenty of room, Even with the full size Bass that my Friend came with to get some great sound without amplification. We also had a Large Roland Electric Piano and two more acoustic Guitars. We planed and Ate for a few Hours and I invited our hosts over to hear our music, They seemed to enjoy what we were doing.
I had Family and Friends who live in the area so my visits to them were very easy for me to make. I have stayed in many places and I will say this was tops for me. You will not find a more comfortable Home away from Home then the Cottage in Watertown. Ct. Gorgeous in every Way.The only down fall of the trip was I had to Leave...

Super cute place!
My dog and I enjoyed our stay here. The house is small but really cute and cozy. The backyard is nice and shady, with a pretty stone wall surrounding it. Faye, the owner, is really helpful -- she was very responsive to every request!
This house is very close to the main house but from the back yard you can't even tell (you can see it from the front). Feels somewhat secluded. Faye also encouraged us to walk around the rest of the property (gorgeous!)
A few things you should be aware of:
- the hot water is REALLY hot once it gets going! Which is awesome but be careful with little kids
- in the bathroom, the hot and cold is reversed
- there is some poison ivy in the backyard so if you have kids show them what it looks like so they can avoid it
- there is no central air but the window unit does a great job of keeping the place cool
- if you are having problems with the internet, call Faye and she can reset it for you. I was able to use my phone as a hot spot without any problems, though; cell service was great.
- the stone wall surrounding the back yard is fairly short in places (4'?) so if your dog is a fence-jumper you may want to keep them on a long line or bring a tall exercise pen to keep them away from the wall.
There are lots of parks and hiking trails nearby so if you bring your dog there will be plenty for you both to do!!

Wonderful hosts
Avoiding the very busy I-84 we used back roads to reach Watertown but got a little lost w/o gps. Faye and Paul helped us over phone and with our Harley Davidson in tow, the family hosts were very gracious to assist with unloading bike from our pickup. We are very grateful to have stayed in this out of the way, peaceful area with very available hosts. We had everything we needed and we enjoyed our stay.

Cute little cottage; good experience
This was my first time arranging a VRBO on my own and was a good experience. Faye and her husband Paul were very gracious, as was their daughter. The main house is across the large oval driveway and provides plenty of privacy. The house was on the small side, hence the recommendation that you not bring large dogs, but it served our purpose. Our dog is actually 60lbs and he was fine, but I worried about him knocking things over. I read the previous review just before our arrival. While I agree with some of the points, I didn't think they were that big of a deal. There is a small kitchen fan in the cooking area and it was very helpful. Yes, if you fully open the cabinet doors over the refrigerator, the left door will hit the fan, but I couldn't think of anything I would need over the fridge that I would need that badly; but it's good to know so you don't make that mistake! The air conditioner is located at the back of the house so the fan helped circulate the cooler air while I slaved away at the stove (what was I thinking? Cooking on vacation?!?!) Also, a cutting board would be a good addition; I didn't want to chop vegetables on the counter-top and risk damage to it, so I ended up using a paper grocery bag. And yes, the faucets in the shower are reversed; turn left for cold and right for hot; Again, good to know. One last thing: the back door (which leads to the yard and patio) was impossible to open. We couldn't get it to budge so we just used the front door; I didn't ask Faye or Paul about it, but I am sure they would have come over to take a look if I had pressed the issue. I just honestly chalked it up to a door being stuck and when they asked if there was anything they could do to improve our stay, I didn't think to tell them. My husband later pointed out that I should have asked them to help with the door, as it is a fire hazard; the kitchen, front door, and garage door are all next to each other at the front of the house; in the event of a grease fire, we would have had difficulty getting out.
Again, everything was clean and organized. Faye responded to my emails very quickly and was hospitable. If you bring a large dog, be sure to check out Southbury Dog Park; it was amazing!

Cute cottage!
You have a great property and cottage. Thank you for sharing it with us. We had a great time.

Nice place overall. Good working appliances and A/C.
A few observations and comments. The following 5 items are fact and not opinion.
1. Kitchen ceiling fan blades interfere with 2 cabinet doors. Also fan lights are too low allowing tall guests to hit their heads. Hazardous condition.
2. The single smoke detector did not work.
3. The shower control is reversed. Hot water should be on the left and cold on the right.
4. Although there was plenty of closet space, there were no dressers or chests to store clothing. Living out of a suitcase is not ideal while on vacation.
5. An electrical cord attached to a lamp in the living room is being pinched by a cabinet door creating a dangerous electrical condition.
Comment: The exterior of the property needs a lot of work. The owners may be overwhelmed due to size of the property but should take steps to make improvements.

Unique Guest House with Many Personal Touches
We felt lucky to have stayed at this cottage. The beds, pillows and couches were super comfortable. The size and quality of sound on the TV in the bedroom made it feel like a home theatre. I loved the layout in the kitchen and appreciated looking out onto a window box with beautiful flowers when doing the dishes. We recognized how much thought and care went into preparing this home for guests.

Cozy cottage
We were very pleased with the cozy guest cottage. It was nicely decorated, clean, and well stocked. Would like to have had some information on trash removal, etc. There was a nice booklet with information on places to dine, shop, etc,, but no instructions for putting out the trash or departure instructions.

Beautiful cottage
We loved our 4 night stay in this guest cottage. Found it very comfortable and well decorated. Wish we had more tine just to stay there to enjoy the yard and fire pit area. The kitchen was small but very well laid out. The beds were very comfy and so were the pillows. Our only problem was television. There was only one in the bedroom so we had to watch ftom bed. And it was Appletv which we had no clue how to use. It would have been helpful to have a book in the cottage containing instructions on how to use it along with the wifi password. Although it says it accommodates 6, there is only one small bath so I'm not sure how comfortable it would be with so many. I would have preferred the television be in the living room rather than the Murphy bed But Paul was very gracious and solved all our problems. We would definitely stay here again.
