About this house rental
500 Acres of beautiful isolation. It’s like being in a National Park without tourists.
We have Water, water, water, every where water. Our Creek is Spring fed and our Well abundant. Take long showers and enjoy the luxury of super clean, clear water.
Once there, You will feel like you own your own ranch in the heart of the Old West.
This rental is a beautiful, unique and limited opportunity. Only one family or group will be able to take advantage of this offer at a time. It is like a Guest Ranch, but you have the place to yourself with solitude and privacy in a beautiful natural setting. Photographs just can not do it justice. There are spectacular views in all directions.
The ranch is in the heart of the Old West with numerous rivers and lakes nearby. It is 10 minutes North of downtown Mt. Shasta and 25 minutes South of Yreka. The McCloud River:45 minutes, The Upper Sacramento: 15 minutes, The Klamath (45 min.), the Trinity River (45 min.),the Pit River and Hat Creek (about one hour). Our on-site ponds abound in trophy size trout. A gin-clear, spring creek, full of trout, runs for 1 3/4 miles through the property. If you ever dreamed of helping your child catch a trout, this is the place to make real, that fantasy! The fishing is unsurpassed. To protect and preserve the Trout, only Barbless Flys are allowed in the ponds. It's a Catch and Release venue.
While extremely private, the ranch is less than five minutes from the city of Weed and 10 minutes from Mount Shasta City.
Interstate 5 is 5 minutes away and the Weed airport is 10 minutes away.
Mount Shasta has Tesla Super Chargers and the Ranch has Outdoor 240 Volt (fifty Amp) and 120 Volt Sockets for charging your Electric Vehicle.
If you want a secluded, and beautiful home base from which to explore Northern California and Southern Oregon this is an excellent venue.
The house lies at the end of a mile long, unpaved private country road. This secluded mountain valley provides spectacular 360 degree views. I often sit outside with a cup of tea or a cold drink and watch the views and wildlife as time seems to stand still. If you are an artist or bird watcher you will be captivated. The lighting is fantastic.
A small horse and cattle operation is run by two local cowboys who are also officers of the law in town. Their occasional presence on the range will help guard your privacy and will add a layer of security. Bill and Tim (policeman and Sheriff respectively) know the area well and can provide excellent information about the regions extensive recreational opportunities.
There is one main bathroom and an extra toilet in the laundry room area.
With all of the water around, it is amazing that there are no Mosquitoes or other biting insects to speak of. Having stayed at places where bug spray was a necessity, I believe this is a issue every vacationer should look into before committing to a rental property.
there is NO WiFi but cell phone reception is excellent for all Smart Phones and Tablets etc.
Tim, the Ranch Manager and Kelly, the House Keeper work hard to make your experience enjoyable. Please consider leaving them a Tip to express your appreciation.
Thank you,
Bill Broadhead

This property gave me the privacy and seclusion on 500 acres to really get in touch with nature, while enjoying amazing views of rolling hills and mountains. The home is spacious and has a quaint country ranch feel to it. I watched horses and cows grazing in the back, while sipping my coffee in the morning next to a beautiful pond by the house out front.
This land is truly magical, and I enjoyed every moment of my stay here.
The owner was also a pleasure to work with and was always available to answer any questions that I had.
I look forward to staying here again in the future.

This place was so nice and relaxing! No neighbors. Gorgeous views! We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! It was a decent farm house that accommodated our family nicely! We didnt even explore the whole property, and will definitely be back! We miss it already!!

Part of me wants to keep what am AMAZING place this was to myself to preserve the awesomeness of this spot.
The information from the property manager prior to getting there was outstanding. It was chalk full of ideas and had all the information you could want and more.
The location was a mile down a dirt road (bumpy and rocky) on a ranch (bring good footwear to walk around the property). There were beautiful views outside each of the windows in the home. The house was clean and cozy, with all the amenities you could want at a home away from home, with plenty of kitchen utensils pans, and even some extra spices. The beds were very cozy! Oh there is basically one bathroom, with an extra toilet in the laundry room with only a wall for privacy around it. This wasn't a problem, and I'm glad there was an extra facility to use (handy of there's a small group). There's a lovely wood stove (not necessary during summer) and the temp in the home was perfect... Bring charcoal briquettes if you want to BBQ for the outside grill.
Wildflowers and water features around make for a soothing atmosphere - and we would go out on the front lawn in the morning to meditate- where we were visited by a jackrabbit in the morning, with cows and horses roaming around.
I can't think of one critique or downside to our stay here.(Actually you may want to bring big spray during summer). I'm so grateful this property is available for others to use and can't wait for the opportunity to return!

Beautiful spacious property. Great views of Mt. Eddy and Mt. Shasta. Delightful week to get away from it all.

We loved the ranch. It was so beautiful and quiet. My son in law enjoyed fishing the ponds while my other SIL and I went up to Mt Shasta and did some snowmobiling. The host was a great communicator as well. The dogs enjoyed running around the ranch as well. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful lands with views of Mt Shasta and surrounding areas. Enjoyed meandering around the meadows and by the ponds with our dog, and watching the cattle out back through the kitchen window. Comfortable house with board games and a nicely equipped kitchen; easy communication with the owner. Would definitely stay again.

If you want to slow down and get away this is your place. A back to the land feeling sets in and grows on you. There's horses that roam freely, cows, fields, water and majestic mountains. The house is old rustic, full of cowboy art. There is only one bathroom.

You drive through burn scar to get to the property but once through it you have beautiful views and it's very quiet. The accommodations were adequate. We thought it odd that there was a working toilet in the laundry room but no door nor a working sink. The best views are seen from the kitchen sink window. We thought how nice it would be to be able to sit on that side of the house and enjoy the views. Really amazing. The outside of the house and the property need TLC. There were cobwebs bordering every window & heavy in the patio, there was what looked to be window glass, an old wall heater cover, and wood pallets laying on the west side of the house which could be seen from the kitchen window. The pond pictured in the listing is over grown with cattails; you can't reach the pond unless you were to push through the thick cattails. There is no pathway to the large pond but we forged our own path through the star thistle and dry grass and found the 2 person kayak (no life vests) and picnic table. The stream that runs through the property is overgrown with blackberries (which are delicious) but the best way to get to the stream/creek is by the small pond by the "tiny house". The blackberry vines are not as thick there so you can get to the water if you cut a few vines. The small pond is more accessible than the large pond but fishing would still be challenging there. The pictures are not quite up to date with current conditions, but it is beautiful.

We totally enjoyed our family getaway at this ranch house & acres. The house had everything we needed, including great views and quiet. We took many enjoyable walks to the ponds, the creek, and up the hill for a great view of the area and Mount Shasta. Many good memories were created!

We really loved our stay at the ranch. The privacy, activities, and fresh air was a perfect recipe for our family and dog. Our dog was miserable when we got back...he loved it up there so much! Our daughters loved petting the horses and watching the cattle...and we enjoyed walking all over the ranch. Will be back!

It's all good. A great place to relax, unwind, and leave the daily stress behind. Our host, Bill Broadhead, continues to be attentive to our needs on every visit. And Cowboy Tim is the best -- he never runs out of great stories to be told.
We always look forward to our next adventure at the Broadhead Trout Ranch.

My husband and I rented this property for our family of 3 children, 3 dogs and adult daughter and son in law for our 15 year anniversary on 4/20/23. We wanted a quiet place where we can take our kids to be outside along with our puppies. The property met all our needs. Beautiful, peaceful, secluded. The view from all windows in the house are breathtaking. We spent all day from sunrise to sunset out side relaxing or exploring. My kids were so excited to see the horses. And with permission from Tim, they were able to even feed them. Our 4 year old loved throwing pebbles in the little pond. The house had all the amenities you need. We barbecued, cooked, watch the sunrise and sunset. My husband and I were able to go into town 5 minutes away for anything we needed. After loosing my Dad in December, it has been a rough past couple of months. So this peaceful getaway was exactly what we needed. Sitting on the hammock in the early morning drinking coffee listening to the stream in the little pond was the perfect way to start my morning. We will most definitely make this a 1-2 times a year family getaway destination! Thank you Bill for your hospitality 🙏

Our stay on Broadhead Trout Ranch was exactly what we were looking for. The owner sent us a list of ideas for things to do and we followed his instructions for several walks along the property. It was fun finding our way to what he was describing and reassuring to know we were still on the right property. We spent hours walking around, playing at the creek and ponds, and soaking in the unbelievable beauty in every direction. Inside the ranch was just as good. We only used three of the beds- but they were all memory foam / tempurpedic style and we slept so well. The kitchen has been wonderfully updated and we enjoyed sitting at the table to play cards and hang out after our long days outside. Our kids- city kids by circumstance- got a kick out of feeding and petting the horses. We bought a big bag of apples and carrots and they went through both! i had to test the local person a couple times to check on the road (we stayed after a big snow) and to make sure we were still on the property during one of our walks and he texted back timely and was very nice.
I can't recommend Broadhead Trout Ranch enough! Thanks to Bill and Tim- we hope to come back in the summer one year!

After getting our vehicles stuck in snow drifts, we hiked 3/4 mile into the ranch during a blizzard (storm of the century, so they say). The heater was on, and wood was available for the wood stove ... converting our Donner party arrival into a true adventure.
The next morning, we awoke to blue sky and an unbelievable view of Mt Shasta. The hike out to our vehicles confirmed the snow drifts had gotten much larger overnight. Hiking to the trout ponds was replaced by a few hours of shovel work.
With the owner and ranch manager's support, the road got plowed into the ranch and the stress ended. We enjoyed family time with our dogs, playing scrabble and doing crosswords for the rest of our time there. Views out every windows were fantastic.
Just got to go back when conditions are better ;o).

This 500 acre ranch was outstanding! My family and I loved the house, the views, the horses, and ponds. The house is very nice and we all felt super comfortable and slept so good here! It was well stocked with most of the things we needed. We just ran to the local grocery store and picked up some food. It was a short drive to take our kids sled riding. It was quiet. Our dogs absolutely loved it! The view from every window in the house was amazing! We couldn’t get enough. We can not wait to go back and visit in the spring/summer!

Our family had a wonderful winter weekend at Broadhead Ranch. This is a truly exceptional VRBO experience and ranks at the top of our favorite family trips. The ranch is secluded and peaceful, yet remarkably close to town and freeway acess. We enjoyed frosty winter hikes, family game time around the wood burning stove, and daytrips to Mount Shasta and Scott Valley (try Five Marys Burgerhouse, it's great). We cannot wait to come back and experience a different season!

Second time here. We had an issue with check-in but Bill handled it quickly. We've stayed here before and were happy to see some key upgrades since our last stay - updated kitchen, new windows, etc. However the grounds were quite unkempt; trash was seen around the property grounds, water leaked into the place from heavy rains, the grounds on the way in have been burned down from the Mill fire and a dump area has just been left there. Quite unsightly. Until we get word that these issues have been addressed we'll find somewhere else to stay in Shasta.

My husband and I rented the property not long after the Mill Fire. Despite how badly Weed was hit, the property was absolutely gorgeous and comfortable. The pictures are a little out of date. The ponds have a lot more cattails and blackberry bushes surrounding them so fishing is a little more difficult. We were still successful at the smaller pond. The house is very rustic but comfortable. We loved watching the horses in the pasture and listening to the birds. A fantastic trip and I would gladly return.

My wife and I enjoyed our 7 night stay at the Ranch property. We brought our 2 dogs with us and we all had an amazing time. We are not into fishing but enjoyed several hikes around the property and really liked the private quiet location. We spent most nights laying in the hammock or on the front porch listening to the cicadas and gentle spring water looking up at all the beautiful stars. The typical noises of air traffic, vehicles, sirens, etc are non-existent on the ranch, which we absolutely loved.
The appliances and kitchen essentials provided by Bill are great, from the induction stovetop, quiet dishwasher, efficient washer & dryer, farmhouse sink, and lots of cooking ware.
There is one full bathroom that is decent sized but the shower lacked good water pressure for us. But that is a small thing. We didn't see a king sized bed, but we enjoyed the memory foam queen sized beds in two different rooms just fine.
There are a fair amount of insects around that make it inside and need to be swatted, but again that was a small thing for us.
The location in Weed is great since there are several lakes and hiking trails that make great day trips. We highly recommend Castle Lake! If you golf or disc golf there are several courses just a few minutes away that are fun & authentic Northern California.
We plan to come back and enjoy this amazing property again soon!

What a magical place!! The views were amazing, and the peace and oneness you feel just sitting outside enjoying the breeze and the sun is beyond words. On top of that, our host Bill was great! He was very attentive and responded very quickly to my questions. I definitely recommend this place!

Beautiful Ranch
We absolutely loved our stay! The ranch was beautiful, with so much to explore. We were also able to take half day trips to McCloud falls where we swam in a lovely mountain waterfall pool, White Water Rafting with River Dancers on the Klamath river, Castle Lake, and Panther Meadows. Returning to a beautiful, spacious, and well stocked house at the end of each adventure was a treat.

Perfect Secluded Getaway
Thank you Bill for sharing your piece of Heaven with our family. Our 2 Labrador Retrievers had the time of their lives! There's so much to explore. Our days were spent with morning coffee strolls to the little pond watching our labs swim their hearts out. Mid day long hikes to the creek where we had creekside picnics and bubbly; an afternoon nap or two, and evenings of the most glorious sunsets by the big pond all with Mt. Shasta in all her glory overlooking us. This place is a dream for outdoorsy people with easy strolls around the property in utter seclusion. The house is perfect for everything you need to enjoy after coming in from a long day of exploring. We've already booked our next trip! Perfect for everyone but especially perfect for those hoping to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors. It's just a few minutes to town for all your groceries and a few small restaurants. Out of all our travels to VRBOs nationwide this is hands down our favorite of all. We hear the fishing is amazing but we haven't done that yet, will report back on our next trip!

Beautiful location with peace and quiet
Gorgeous location full of wildlife, lots of peace and quiet and incredible views of Mt Shasta and the neighboring hills. Spent plenty of time just hanging out on the porch watching the wildlife. When we were in the mood for an adventure, we could wander the property or head out to hike the many nearby trails or lakes. We enjoyed every minute of our visit!

New kitchen adds to the experience
We just spent our fourth vacation on the ranch, in total solitude. The new kitchen really added to our enjoyment. The induction cooktop was very efficient as were the other appliances. The light cabinets around the kitchen window took nothing away from the mind blowing view. We love being outside all day, eating, reading, and relaxing, and watching the sky, the meadow, the mountains and the wildlife that surround you. It’s a rare spot.

Stunning
Amazing property, brand new country kitchen, dog heaven, super clean, sunsets and sunrises are world class here! Ponds & trails overgrown, outside is super rustic, we didn't care but a cleaner first impression/porch/trash & better pond/boat access would've made it a solid 5 star for all.

Best NorCal Family Vacation
The Ranch was pure Heaven for us and our senior dog whom we planned this trip for. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect location for our family vacation. The house was fantastic with incredible views! Our favorite bedroom had a pond outside and a spectacular view of Mt. Shasta that we enjoyed waking up to. Between the fishing, photography op’s, hiking, and field training we did with our dog, the property offered much more than I was expecting and exceeded my expectations. I appreciated having such kind, gracious hosts in Bill and Tim. We can’t wait to return!

Amazing vacation!
This was the absolute perfect getaway! The property is beautiful with plenty to do right on sight. The owner and manager were both very responsive and had great knowledge as to both the property and things to do in the surrounding area. If your looking to get away but still be close enough to local shopping and activities this is the perfect place! Definitely looking forward to going again.

If You Are Looking for Heaven
My grown daughter and I spent four nights at the Broadhead Ranch and loved every second of our stay.
The house is spacious and yet cozy at the same time. It sits in the middle of a grassy field from where you get an incredible view of Mt. Shasta. Moreover, the Ranch is very well-appointed with all the linens and towels you could ever want and lots of spices, etc. in the kitchen
There is no internet but wifi was excellent. My daughter hooked up her computer to the tv, allowing us to get Netflix.
Fishing on the Lower Pond was such a treat. Our fly casting needs work but we still caught (and returned) some gorgeous, fighting trout.
We had planned to go out for half a day of fly fishing on the Lower Sacramento with a guide from The Fly Shop. in Redding. Unfortunately, the wind was up that day so the trip was cancelled. If you are interested, call Brian at The Fly Shop. I hear that they catch steelhead and salmon.
We were truly sad to leave this gorgeous and peaceful place. There was so much yet to do. Bill sent us a long list of hikes, trails to lakes, etc. I cannot wait until our nest trip!.

The property is huge! The views would have been beautiful, but unfortunately, the California fires have created so much smoke in the air that I can barely see the mountains. The ranch is well secluded and peaceful. I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the pond too much as there was limited access due to all the surrounding cattails. Hearing the creek water flow through behind the house was very relaxing. There are a lot of flys and mosquitoes so make sure to keep the doors closed. This didn’t bother me any and should be expected of any area with ponds and farm animals. For those who have small pets, keep an eye out for coyotes. We did hear a couple howling at night and saw one by the fence line early in the morning. We also saw a lot of rabbits and squirrels running around the fields, and a large deer when we first drove in. It’s always great to see so much wildlife. The house is very old but very clean. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook a meal but the appliances are a bit outdated. In terms of neighborhood, Weed is a small town community where it seems like everyone knows each other. Beware, Weed seems to have a very strong Conservative environment with a very vocal anti-vax and anti-mask community. Some people may give you a judgmental stare if you are wearing a mask. I did feel a bit uncomfortable at times, but there are also some very nice people that we have met during our stay. Overall, I enjoyed the stay. I would stay here again when there isn’t as much smoke in the air.
