About this villa rental
Casa Vela is completely unlike any house you can rent in Playa del Carmen or a suite at the Four Seasons or Fairmont – much more fun with none of the crowds, and right on the beach.
Basic lodging rate covers up to eight people and Includes daily maid service, kayaks, paddle boards, and concierge, and there is no cleaning fee upon exit. Additional lodging charge of $65 per person per day for extra people beyond 8.
Most guests select the gourmet inclusive option of three meals daily with professional chef preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner at $500 per day for up to 8 people, with an additional food charge of $65 per person per day for extra people beyond 8.
If the extra people are children under 12, they are charged at half price.
Other popular amenities may be ordered at reasonable extra charge - airport transfers, tours to the Mayan ruins, shopping for your choice of adult beverages and groceries (at cost plus 25%) if you want to cook. We look forward to hosting you if you are the right match for this experience.
Casa Vela is a handcrafted, all hardwood home accommodating four couples in luxurious privacy in four master suites, each with unobstructed views of the ocean on one side and the forest on the other. The white sand beach is at your feet. Hammocks and private lounge chairs downstairs, along with kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and your own beach bar make this your private club for the week you are in residence.
The master suite has a king size bed, living area, enormous dressing area, full bath with standalone marble tub, separate shower and toilet rooms, and outdoor deck with chaise lounges.
Another suite has a king size bed, living area, full bath with separate shower and toilet rooms, a comfortable futon for an extra person, and a sleeping loft with two single beds for families with children who might enjoy the adventure of climbing a ladder.
Two additional over-sized bedrooms each feature two queen size beds (four queen beds in total) and ensuite bathrooms. One of these bedrooms has a private deck with chaise lounges. All have handcrafted furniture and direct ocean views.
We have Wi-Fi, and every suite has a large flat panel television with Satellite TV service. Three rooms can stream Netflix.
You may dine outside under the romantic three story palapa, or take a quick snack at the eat-in kitchen table.
As noted above, the bedrooms and the palapa are graced with lovely hardwood furniture custom-made in our workshops. Because of our preference and the fire hazard, we are strictly non-smoking throughout the villa, inside and out. Please do not book the villa if you are a smoker (or if you have pets).
We provide bottled water for drinking and cooking, and as an ecological resort, we collect rainwater for washing and flushing toilets. We encourage guests to conserve water and energy, turning off the ceiling fans, A/C, televisions, and lights when not in use.
The house is sited on our 100 acre property, with diverse eco-systems of forest, jungle, and mangrove, home to deer, spider monkeys, parrots, iguanas, butterflies, and tejones.
Wade into the fresh water spring-fed rivers (“cenotes”) just 3 minutes walk to our north and swim against the refreshing current. However, the management of that hotel frowns on outside guests using their bridge or people swimming too far upstream.
Part of the experience at Casa Vela is the interaction with my partner and property manager, a noted breeder of rare birds, and his wife, a licensed biologist who works full-time as a consultant to various hotels and developers on environmental matters. You can reserve some time with them for a fishing trip or a snorkeling tour to the nearby reef or just invite them over for a beer and chat about the local flora and fauna.
They can suggest visits to the Mayan pyramids: Tulum less than an hour south, Coba an hour and a half southwest. Ek Balam just two hours northeast, and Chichen-Itza under three hours west, as well as an enjoyable excursion by boat through the canals of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere, with the starting point just south of Tulum. After the pyramids, add a short visit to the cenotes (also called "grutas" or grottos) - walk down stairs (around 20 meters) for a refreshing swim in these marvelous underground caverns.
We look forward to hosting you!

Over the years, I have stayed at more than a dozen VRBOs in exotic locations all over the world. Above all, this property exceeds its description. It's just a really special place with a dedicated services team that makes your stay magical. We had eight members of the family on this particular trip, so I highly recommend the "Chef package" because the food was fantastic. During your stay, Alberto, who designed and built the house, coordinates everything via WhatsApp and is very knowledgeable and responsive. The freshwater cenote down the beach is great for a dip. The home itself is beautiful and unique. I would definitely recommend this experience for a family reunion.

Beautiful beach house
We had a wonderful stay over Thanksgiving. 4 adults and 7 kids ages 3-14. We were able to arrange everything ahead of time including airport transfers, excursions, food ideas (we hired a chef) and food and beverages to have stocked at the house. I emailed with both the house manager Alberto and the owner Bruce as well as spoke to Bruce on the phone. Every detail was taken care of including a very traditional American Thanksgiving meal, which was amazing! We ended up changing our plans a few different times due to the kids wanting to do different activities and it was no problem at all. I simply messaged Alberto using the WhatsApp and arrangements were immediately taken care of. We gave the chefs ideas ahead of time and they were very good about fixing not only traditional Mexican foods but also some typical kids foods such as pizza, cheeseburgers and chicken strips in case the kids didn't care for the Mexican fare. The chefs were amazing and very friendly. We used a translation app to communicate with them better. My kids now know how to ask for ice cream in Spanish - "More helado por favor!" The house itself was roomy, clean and beautiful. It is exactly as it looks in the pictures. The beach was amazing. The only reason I gave it 4 stars for location was that the water right in front of the house is not that great for swimming. Our kids wanted to swim and boogie board so we ended up going to a different beach in Tulum for that but it was nice to go off on a few excursions which we would have done anyway. If you don't care about swimming, the beach is amazing and you can kayak and use the stand up paddle boards. You can also walk down the beach to the cenote and swim in that which is very refreshing. There are tons of activities in the area if you care to go on excursions such as cenotes, mayan ruins at Coba and Tulum, the Xcaret parks (which we were planning to do but ended up going to Tortuga cenotes and Tulum beach instead.) It's nice to come back to a quiet beautiful house at the end of the day. If you simply want to relax in peace and quiet the whole time, this house is for you. Alberto arranged a masseuse to come, we had chefs on hand and 24 hour security. No reason to leave if you don't want to. It could use a few more activities for kids so keep that in mind. We ended up going to Walmart and purchased some balls, beach toys and boogie boards as there were none at the house. Overall we had a great stay!

I want to keep this my own little secret.
I hope Bruce and Alberto are ready for 6 new roomates as we never wanted to leave. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were 100% taken care of. The property was exactly as described and honestly was even better in person (if that's even possible). It had every amenity you could ever want and everything was glorious. The staff was incredible and very unobtrusive but were there for us for everything we needed. They became our mini family while we were there. The rooms and common areas were perfect, location was exactly what we needed and the nearby cenote was perfection. We paddleboarded and kyaked every day, we even took a snorkel and centoe tour and had a day of whale watching and fishing. We truly are all heartbroken to have to leave. But i guarantee we will be back. Thanks to Bruce, Alberto, CeCe and Anibar for making this the best birthday I will ever have.

Casa Vela Retreat
This is just the perfect get away. From the layout of the house to the location to chief and all the staff. This is the place to go relax and enjoy a vacation. You live your idea of a dream spot. You think back and smile about every little thing, the flowers, the furniture, the folded towel animals.
The open airy architecture that makes you feel as though you are part of your surroundings and simply relaxes you both at the dinner table and lounging afterward. With the ground level sitting areas for afternoon cool off or evening cocktails at the swinging chair bar, pool and storage for water enjoyment equipment this place fully accommodates kids and adults.
Love it!

Excellent & Professional
Casa Vela was amazing - everything from the view to the beach to the kitchen was 5 stars. The house was top notch and the cleaning staff kept things in great shape by cleaning each morning. The living room area where we spent most of the time was perfect for groups - open air and plenty of comfortable seating. The staff was friendly and always helpful.
A great, peaceful house to relax and getaway from the crowds. The property is super secluded and very safe. Downtown playa is about a 15 minute drive - convenient for those who want to go out, but make sure to plan a taxi in advance.
Overall, a great stay - perfect for groups or large families.

Amazing property right on the beach.
We had a wonderful time staying here over spring break. We stayed with our entire family, 13 people in all, and everyone was comfortable. Great bedrooms and bathrooms. The back deck is amazing with great breezes. Well appointed kitchen and open air dining were fantastic. Great outdoor seating and wonderful equipment for water sports. The staff and cooks took great care of us and food was fantastic!! I couldn't rank this place higher.

We had a wonderful week! It's really being on the beach and eco, but in a luxurious house.
We woke up to the sunrise over the ocean, luxuriated all day on the beach, had wonderful meals by the property's chef, and this week, enjoyed the full moon over the ocean. The house is very comfortable. Everything is top drawer, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, TVs, etc. We didn't have to shop, cook, clean, anything! Some of us used the kayaks and paddle boards, right off the beach in front of the house. Everyone was sorry to leave and would love to return.

Magnificent and so luxurious!
Wow! From the moment we arrived at Casa Vela we we're treated to the utmost luxury and service. We arrived with our 3 small children (4, 2 and 4 months)... they were given fresh juice and we were given margaritas along with some guacamole and pico de Gallo! We sat on the swings under the house and took it all in! Alberto, the property manager had pack n plays and high chairs ready for use. He also helped me to arrange a surprise for my husband for his 50th birthday. Our friends flew in a few hours after us and Alberto sent me a text to let me know when they were on their way from the airport so I could get him in place! He also arranged for a birthday celebration one night. Everything we wanted was delivered promptly or ready for us when we got there.
My Spanish is atrocious so I spoke into my phone using Google translate so the staff knew exactly what we wanted, what we needed or how appreciative we were of their efforts. Oh... the maid service! Every day, the maid created some kind of animal or design in the rooms. My kids loved it and I have never seen such intricate designs with towels. It was truly impressive and a wonderful touch.
It was quite a humid time when we went but with the breeze at night, it was heaven on the large lanai. One afternoon it rained and the day staff gentleman promptly ran upstairs to lower the shades to block the rain. Oh... And the day staff grounds helper/do anything you need him to was super attentive. It seemed like every time we moved from an area, he would come tidy up without us even noticing.
The food... WOW WOW WOW! Absolutely incredible. The food was actually my favorite part. We had two chefs throughout the course of our week. They had different styles but both equally delectable. To say the food was sensational would be an understatement. We had different juice pairings with each meal, juices I had never even heard of before and they were so refreshing.
The beds were extremely comfortable, AC worked great, showers were so cool, rooms were spacious and had good wifi connection. The TVs could be turned to English which was great for occupying our children while we got ready for dinner.
We walked just north to the cenote and saw crabs, a barracuda and other local wildlife. It was beautiful. The kayaks and paddle boards were so fun too! If you paddle out you can see massive starfish!
I can't say enough good things about this place. We will definitely be back!

Great House ,False advertising ,bad service
Ok , We booked for 13 people and arrived waited 30 min for a ride . We got there and was greated by owners son that said it was his summer job but just wanted to be back in NYC.He said there were events he could plan but only answered by text .Randomly
This was the last time he showed up till we had problems. It says it's close to Mayakoba ..nope 30 min away . Says cenote you can swim up .nope it's owned by hotel next door and you can't use.100acre property is all mangroves and not usable . Oceanfront is old mangroves spungey and a little smelly.
House is amazing and all would have still been ok if service wasn't completely terrible.
The cook made decent food but not worth the price. Chef was creepy and rude as possible only wanted to get out of there after each meal didn't speak much and would not do anything extra. 2nd chef it least smiled and was pleasant. Beach boys and cleaning staff don't smile don't help much at all and we're constantly late picking us up.
This place would be great if they had any service what so ever.
Cleaners go in rooms and shut off AC every time they go in .
On top of that hot water was enter-mitten.Even after they said it was fixed.
They did fedex a ring back my little girl left in the house unfortunately that was the best service of the trip.
Way better places for the price...

A Wonderful Experience
Upon arrival at Cancun airport, two air-conditioned vans took our group of 10 to the lodge. The staff was waiting for us with delicious margaritas and a beautiful lunch. We had them prestock our alcohol of choice, which even with the 25% service charge was still cheaper than duty free airport shopping. Within minutes, I felt at home and was able to relax knowing we found paradise.
The open air lounge and dining room have a very spacious feel, great for socializing and planning the days ahead. This vibe was balanced with private suites, making it easy to sneak away for a moment of solitude and rest when needed.
The maid service ensured our rooms were kept clean, and the 24-hr security went above and beyond their duties to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the day.
The chefs are top-notch professionals and accomodate any dietary needs and restrictions their guests may have. They would stay after their shift to discuss future meal plans, curious to know what foods we enjoy most. They were flexible about what times we want to eat each day, which was convenient to keeping things flexible. I highly recommend trying the fajitas, ceviche, fish tacos, and cactus salad). The kitchen assistant, Sandra, was always working hard to make sure everything was prepped and ready for the chef.
Casa Vela lodge is only a few meters from the water, and is backed by lush jungle and some wildlife. I already miss the sound of the singing birds that added so much joy to our morning yoga practice.
There are plenty of chairs for lounging, so you don't have to go far if you want to bask in the hot sun. Although, just a five minute walk down the beach is a river that is great for swimming if you need to cool off. There are also paddleboards and kayaks, among other activities
Bruce, the owner was diligent with his communications leading up to the retreat. No questions were left unanswered. Upon arrival, the property manager, Alberto, greeted us warmly. He was very attentive, and helped coordinate the excursions during our stay. We took a day trip into Playa del Carmen to shop, another trip to a Cenote near Peurto Morales, with a visit to the beach for a delicious lunch after.
I would highly recommend Casa Vela to any group or family that is up for a unique, and magical trip to Mexico. My only regret is not staying longer. But I will be back. Again, and again.
Many thanks to the wonderful team at Casa Vela for making this trip an experience of a lifetime.

Our stay at Casa Vela was fantastic! It truly was the.best family vacation we have had!!!
The property is impeccable, is beautiful and incredibly well cared for with the friendliest and most helpful of staff. The chef, Tomas, prepared one great meal after another and was totally attentive to our dietary needs and wishes. We felt totally and royally taken care of!!! The teenage boys loved the ping pong table! We took full advantage of the paddle boards and the kayaks, loved sitting under the beach umbrellas and making sand castles with the little ones. Each bedroom is beautiful and the common area is equipped with games and provided ample room for our family of 13. Casa Vela is a totally unique and spectacular property. We all give it Five +++++ stars!!

Outstanding location, amazing chef, wonderful service
8 of us (four couples) stayed here for Valentine's Week. We paddled every day using the kayaks and stand up paddle boards, snorkeled in the adjacent fresh water river and were welcomed by the chef serving healthy and tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner. He even made special variants for our gluten free guest ad or non-dairy guest. The hosts arranged tours to see the pyramids at Tulum and we spent an afternoon lounging at the beach just south of there while the driver waited for us. The best vacation for friends or a multi-generational family as there are extra beds in several of the suites for children. We'l be back again next year.

Excellent Stay!
We had a great week at Casa Vela. We were 7 Adults and 8 teens. We never felt crowded. Starting with Bruce and Alberto helping us set up the trip, to Thomas and all the staff ensuring we had a great stay. High points: The house and rooms, the location, the staff! Some tips. Be as specific as you can about what you want to eat as well as dessert every night. If you like more then just beer and wine, make sure you make arrangement either to have a bar tender or be prepared to make them yourself. Also pre-book as many excursions as possible. We were last minute with massages and a snorkeling trip but Alberto pulled if off without a hitch. Would definetily come back!

One of A Kind Property
We stayed at what we called the "tree house" for seven nights for Easter of 2016. I've waited awhile to write the review as I was very torn about giving this property 5-STARS as the house set-up and beach area were not ideal for our needs, but the house is EXTRAORDINARY! (4 adults, 2 children - 5yrs/9yrs)
Airport transfers and all staff were included in the booking fee. All of the staff on the property were polite and attentive. They work in the background and make the trip more enjoyable. The food was excellent, the cook took our input on the menu, and the grocery store order we placed was ready for our arrival.
The house and all of the rooms are truly 5-STAR. As nice, if not better than the photos. Each room is well appointed, clean, and artfully designed. The beds are excellent and the amenities are top-knotch. There are four bedrooms that don't connect. All of the bedroom doors open to the outside. The room set-up is a pro for multiple families that are traveling together and want privacy, but a con if you want to put your children in a room separate from yours. Someone could walk off the beach and up into the house and enter your child's room without you knowing. They do have a staff member present 24 hours who was very attentive and patrols beneath the house. However, in a foreign country I couldn't place my children in another room that was only accessible from the outside.
The house is truly oceanfront, however the beach in front of the house isn't swimmable. The water is mucky and the seaweed constantly bunches up on the shore. The staff diligently rakes it up, but you will have to walk down the beach to enjoy the ocean. The owner can arrange a boat to take you snorkeling and they pull up right in front of the house for a great price. He also arranged a massage therapist to come to the hose - fantastic!
Getting into town is a chore as you have to call for a cab, which is a process, as this is an isolated home a good mile from the highway behind unmarked gates. The staff calls a taxi for you, but it's something that has to be planned. If the room setup works for you, you don't mind walking down the beach to swim, and you plan on spending most of your time on the property this is really an amazing play to stay. A one of kind experience. From booking to departure the owner and staff are very easy to work with and aim to please.

Amazing house and amazing staff.
This is one of if not the best vacation I've had.
The house is beautiful. Roomy. Comfortable. Great views right on the ocean. Perfect pool to relax in that overlooks the beach and water. Hammocks. Paddle boards kayaks and more. You can do as much you'd like or as little as you'd like. Relaxing was the main ingredient. This house is perfect for that. Clean large comfortable rooms and bathrooms. Super open space for gathering and meals. The chef was 5 star. Every meal was different unique and flavorful The entire staff was so accommodating to everyone's needs yet very unobtrusive. They were always there when needed. The excursion suggestions were perfect and nice to have them take care of everything without any worries. Would HIGHLY recommend this for a perfect vacation retreat. Will definitely make this a regular place to stay.

Casa Vela is a special place!
Casa Vela is a gem on an otherwise crowded coastline! It is beautifully constructed of georgious woods throughout. Every detail is efficiently and creatively executed. Our family of five thoroughly enjoyed this incredible home which could easily house twice the crowd or more. With separate bedrooms accessed from outside along either the front or back of the building, everyone could easily come and go from their private suites to join in the main room, an outdoor living room palapa style. We had a lot of wind and rain during our stay but could happily sit outside under cover reading or socializing. The staff was very professional and friendly and the meals were excellent.

Perfect Getaway Destination
A group of six of us enjoyed a perfect five day break here. The house is made completely of wood and is absolutely beautiful. It sits oceanfront and has kayaks and paddle boards ready to use whenever you would like. Under the house, we were able to relax in the hammocks and lounge chairs for hours without being crowded by other guests or worrying whether there were going to be enough chairs for all of us. The house also has a ping pong table and a pool that add to the variety of activities available. Each room has a full bathroom in it which was so convenient when we were all getting ready at the same time. We were transported to and from the airport which took away any stress of navigating an unfamiliar city. I recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation in a beautiful house.

Stunning Beach House!
Our stay at Casa Vela was absolutely amazing! The oceanfront house is beautiful, made from all natural wood and materials. The house comes equipped with kayaks, paddle boards, table tennis, a pool, hammocks, snorkeling gear, etc., which made our stay extremely convenient. The chef's cooking was excellent. The car service to and from the airport made our stay convenient as well. Definitely recommend Casa Vela to others!

Real life paradise!
I came here with seven of my friends to have an adventurous and relaxing getaway vacation. This house is absolutely gorgeous! The natural architectural design is definitely unique and becomes part of the scenery. The house is spacious with lots of places to lounge. My friends and I enjoyed the bar, pool table, and swimming pool. The house comes with plenty of paddle boards and kayaks for us all to go out on the water together. They supplied us with snorkeling gear and arranged for a guide to take us out to the coral reef! Alberto, the manager, was very accommodating and the staff were wonderful. The airport pick up and drop off was convenient and seamless. The chef made a variety of delicious meals and made sure there was a special vegetarian dish for my friend. Playa Del Carmen/Casa Vela is beautiful and offers plenty of beaches and outdoor activities without feeling crowded like some resorts. Very highly recommend for families and groups of friends looking for a relaxing vacation.
