About this house rental
This magical retreat in a wooded setting has picturesque old world charm reminiscent of an Italian Alpine cottage.
Red Gate Cottage, situated on a knoll in Beaverdam Valley, is a vintage log cabin faced with stone. Semiskilled craftsmen working over decades, using stone and antique brick, produced an effect that makes the cottage resemble an ancient stone house in the Alps. The original log walls inside have been restored and preserved.
The luxury renovation by the Architect/Owner features high pine-faced cathedral ceilings throughout. The river stone fireplace is a focal point where people enjoy gathering to watch TV and movies or to just soak up the relaxing atmosphere. It's a great venue for romantic couples, friends and family groups to celebrate holidays and special occasions.
A hot tub on the stone patio, cradled by massive rock walls, rests under pergola. Beyond, a sunken garden has a fire pit for roasting marshmallows and smores.
From the deck, you can enjoy close mountain views as you dine or sit around a blazing fire in the chiminea. Relax in the hammock, and listen to the sounds of the abundant wild life mingling with those of barnyard animals from nearby farms. Flocks of wild turkeys wander by. Guests recently saw a total of eight black bears (including 4 cubs) during their stay.
Peaceful and quiet, the cottage is within 10 minutes of the center of Asheville. The scenic Beaverdam Valley meanders past the country club golf course en route to the spectacular high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway – where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. Yet the fantastic restaurants and night life of Asheville are only a few minutes away. The Gove Park Inn is nearby, and the University of NC is just minutes away. Black Mountain is within 30 minutes, and Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Park and Wolf Laurel Ski Resort are all within 45 minutes. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is an hour’s drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.
At Red Gate Cottage, you can enjoy both town and country, truly the best of both worlds. So bring the children, bring the dog. Here, you can get away from it all (but still stay in touch with high speed wireless internet).

This place was great for our extended family. We had 8 and it was tight but we were warned about this beforehand. Listing is correct. One thing to keep in mind, the fenced in yard is only completely fenced when the driveway gate is closed. Also, a small section of the fence by the driveway and lower yard is wire with 4 to 5 inch square openings. Just something to think about if you have smaller dogs or dogs that like to explore.

The property is exactly as pictured and described. If you are looking fancy and upgraded this isn’t for you but if you are looking for a cozy, rustic style cabin close to everything this is the place for you. Minutes to most anything you would want to do in Asheville yet still has the in the mountains feel. Cabin has everything you need to be comfortable and not have to pack a lot. What makes this house extra special is all the outdoor space.
Communication with the property manager was top notch and we were even welcomed with a personal letter and a plate of cookies.

We would come back again. Saw 2 bears walking down the road. Quiet, not too far from downtown and Biltmore Estate.

We had a wonderful experience! Comfortable home with so much charm! We’d love to stay again in cooler weather to enjoy the fire pit and hot tub! This would be a great space to bring younger kids as well due to the fenced in yard, hammock and playset on the property. Easy check in and check out process. The home was set up so well and we really appreciated all of the amenities available. Great communication prior to and throughout the whole stay with the owner. She was so gracious and thoughtful while ensuring we felt supported during our stay. Great location with easy access to downtown, restaurants, grocery stores, and UNC-A. We had such a nice visit and hope to get to stay again!

The perfect getaway! Georgia's Red Gate Cottage in Asheville was the perfect summer getaway for our family. Great secluded location that offered plenty of privacy, but it was still easy to get downtown when we wanted to head that way. The house provided everything we needed to have a great time, and Georgia was quick to respond to any questions that we had. Could not recommend this place enough!

This cottage is in a great location. Only about ten minutes from downtown. Close to great bakeries and restaurants but also out enough that you get a more quiet experience.

We had 2 small children and 4 adults and the weather was occasionally chilly, i.e. it was a little cramped when the deck was not used. The facilities were very nice - everything or more than asked for.

Cozy cottage within a short distance of lots of fun activities. Georgia communicated very effectively and prepared us well with details about the property and area. Our kids loved the playset, and we enjoyed the hot tub. We were a group of two adults, two young children, and a dog -- it was the right size for us, but with a bigger group, it could be tight.

The property is ideally located right outside of downtown on the Merrimon Ave restaurant corridor and so close to the historic Omni Grove Park Inn and its arts galleries. The cottage was such a nice respite after our 3-days and 4-nights of exploration...arts, antiques, restaurants, breweries, shopping, fancy drinks, trivia nights, and dog walking expeditions. Families with well-trained, small dogs will fall in love with this property. The wrap-around deck is perfectly suited for family and friends, and your selected adult beverage(s) of choice. We had a very memorable experience!

We had an amazing time and really enjoyed the location. It was close to downtown, but just far enough away to feel secluded.
We brought our pups and they loved the huge yard. Just note if you have bigger sneakier pups like mine, there are hard to get to gaps in the fence.
Overall great stay. Would definitely stay here again.

This is our second tie staying at this house. This house and property are even better in person! It is small but has everything you need. Georgia is a delightful house and has everything ready upon arrival with thoughtful details like leaving the lights on when she knew we would be arriving after dark. The yard is wonderful and the location is great. About 10 min from downtown. We will definitely be back again.

We loved every minute of our stay, especially seeing the beautiful cottage decorated for the holidays upon our arrival.
Our host was wonderful from the day we booked our stay and was available for any questions we had. Our cottage was cozy with all amenities needed and close to all attractions, grocery stores and restaurants while so peaceful and quiet. We absolutely loved this sweet place.

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it is very conveniently located to downtown Asheville. We stayed three nights and did not even have a chance to use all the amenities, house is well stocked. Only thing I would say is that one of the Queen-size beds is actually a full-size and a little freshening up with paint might be due.

This property was even more special in person. The proximity to downtown Asheville, breweries, restaurants and the blue ridge parkway was perfect. The inside of the cottage was appointed perfectly. Very clean and quiet. We used the indoor fireplace while we sipped our coffee, the hot tub while drank our wine and the porch for an afternoon snack. Would highly recommend and hope to be back.

Such a warm and charming home with all the amenities to include a nice fire pit and wonderful hot tub. The views were spectacular. We even saw a bear! Georgia was a very proactive and responsive hostess. I could not have asked for any better. Thanks Georgia. Hope to see you again.

Great for me and the dog, he made the most of the yard and deck. Easy access to Asheville and Blue Ridge Parkway. Cottage could use some TLC, showing its age but very cozy

We needed a smart spot that would allow our dogs and more importantly our relatives! It worked well. This cottage is close to everything and offers a sunken garden with a fire pit, there is an elevated patio with a chiminea and a jacuzzi! Tell Georgia, Matt and Denise sent you!!

Great Cottage in a perfect location. This cottage is so close to everything but you feel like you're in a world of your own. Comfortable beds and furnishings made for a relaxing stay. The completely fenced yard is perfect for dogs. The jungle gym is great for children. We enjoyed relaxing at the end of each day in the hot tub. Georgia is a pleasure to work with and made check-in easy.

We loved Red Gate Cottage! We especially liked the location of this cozy little rustic cabin which is close enough to town, yet is so quiet and relaxing in a safe neighborhood with many trees. We saw 3 wild turkeys and a hawk while walking the dog up and down the residential road. We really enjoyed the fireplace, hot tub and fire pit. The host was very communicative & the cottage was nice and clean. Thank-you for allowing us to stay here with our dog! One thing to mention: Although texting works, outgoing calls won't transmit from AT&T cel phones at this location & the cabin has 'SOS only' service unless on WiFi. However, there is a working wall phone to accommodate. Due to being in the mountains, Asheville has poor cel service overall, so keep this in mind when travelling to Asheville. I highly recommend this cabin!

This was a great vrbo property. Very happy with this rental. Property owner was pleasant and had lots of info to share on the area. It was our first visit to Asheville, but we will be back for sure. We had a group of 4 adults and 2 kids (13 and 10) and our two pups. The yard was fantastic for the dogs and we enjoyed the fire pit a couple times. The porch was lovely to sit and have morning coffee and an afternoon relaxing with a book.

We had a wonderfully relaxing time in Asheville this past weekend. Everything at the Red Cottage was more than we expected. Georgia left us some fresh baked cookies for us upon arrival, and the cottage was very clean and cozy. Loved the fire pit and also used the chiminea. Thanks for a wonderful visit.

The house is adorable. We enjoyed our stay at this comfy home. The hostess went out of her way to make sure we were all settled in and had everything we needed. Thank you Georgia. Separate sleeping and bathroom areas allowed both couples their privacy. Living area with a beautiful fireplace added to the coziness of the home. We sat on the porch in front of a fire and talked about the days events and made our plans for the next day. Local places to explore plus the Biltmore and the little towns with unique shopping experiences made this trip a enjoyable vacation. And our doggies enjoyed their stay too!

Overall a great place in spite of the age of the home. The unit wasn't ready at 4:00 pm as we were told it would be and the hot tub was broken so we never got to use it. That was disappointing. The location is wonderful...close to shopping and restaurants but in a peaceful neighborhood. The house had most everything we needed and we really enjoyed the gas fireplace. The weather didn't cooperate for sitting out and enjoying the beautiful yard, deck and fire pit. Maybe next time!

Fantastic location. Close enough to everything yet far away enough from everything. Perfect place to relax and take in nature from the awesome deck, with everything to do within 15 minutes. Charming. Unique. Retreat. Loved it.

We were so charmed by the cabin, it's location, it's play area for the children. Really, this cabin was immaculate and the space is used so efficiently. I actually thought the windows were opened when we arrived, they were so clean. The kitchen had everything we could have possibly needed, the beds and linens were so comfortable. I really cannot say enough good things about the cabin, our host, and our stay there. Whenever we return to Asheville, I hope that the cabin will be available to resnt again. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

This property has everything! We stayed here with another couple enjoying the privacy of bedrooms separated by the living areas. It is close to many grocery stores and an easy drive to downtown Asheville. The fully supplied kitchen and bathrooms made our visit seamless. We love to go the farmers market and cook with our friends as well as dining out. Hot tub, fireplace, and hammock made our stay super relaxing after a full day of sightseeing and bike riding. Georgia is a fantastic host. She supplied all we needed. We would definitely stay here again!

The house was clean and cozy. Georgia went out of her way to welcome us with a personalized note and some freshly baked cookies. Directions were clear, the house and hot tub were clean, and the location was great. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Red gate was a cozy cottage right on the outskirts of town. Everything was as described and the host was easy to communicate with throughout. Bonus yummy homemade cookies! We brought our three kids and two dogs. Everyone had space to relax even though it’s a cozy space. Highlights were the stone fireplace, and great lower yard with play scape. The property was right on the road so not very secluded but the fully fenced in yard made it feel separate.

Wife and I met my sister and her hubby here for a weekend get away. Cabin is charmingly rustic and very comfortable. Location is about a 15 min drive to most destinations. Very convenient to a local grocery store. We were welcomed with some yummy cookies. The cabin is clean and easily sleeps 6 in it's 3 bedrooms. Very quiet, great sleep!
