About this house rental
Creekside at Stinson Beach – a truly unique property on a nice quarter-acre of land that melds sweetly into the woods of the neighboring national park lands. Unlike many houses at Stinson, neighboring houses are on one fence only, so the place is quite private and expansive. The land has enough space outside for an event tent for weddings and other gatherings up top 30 people (additional rates apply and owner approval required). The house is in its own wonderful watershed, almost a little micro-climate, yet only 400 yards from the 3 mile sandy beach. It's a 5-minute walk to the town's three restaurants, the library, market and boutiques.
The house and two adjacent cabins are rented as a whole along with an outdoor shower and hot tub. The owner, who manages and maintains the property and is a member of the Stinson Beach Volunteer Fire Department, has private spaces for his use on the other side of the creek in a cabin two Airstream trailers. However, the creek divides the property and trees create curtains to separate the two areas. If the owner is on site, he is available to assist If things come up.
In 2022 We remodeled the upstairs bathroom with slate tile and a heated floor. Also, we bought new furniture for the living room. The video shows a Bridge and a Creekside deck that has since been removed and some furniture that has been replaced, but the sleeping rooms are generally the same. A solar array and back-up battery allow the house to have partial electricity for several days in the event of power outages.

During the summer and holiday periods we rent by the week. Other times we will rent weekends, with a three night minimum.
For spring, summer and fall getaways and all year. With a wonderful indoor/outdoor feel, you can walk out French doors onto a beautiful Italian tile walkway around two sides of the house and onto the flagstone patio that leads to the hot tub. A large horizontal window in the master bedroom upstairs looks at the woods and sky from the bed.
The main house is a charming, classic two-story beach house that features knotty pine ceilings, hard wood floors, a wood stove upstairs, radiant heated tiled floors downstairs, hot spa steps from the downstairs bedroom, views of the ocean, three bedrooms and two baths. Extra mattresses and unique extra sleeping spaces allow for additional guests to sleep on the floor in family room downstairs, a small cabin with sink and toilet or on an enclosed deck outside the house with a king bed windows onto a grassy dell (this room is optional and is meant for glamping - it is not insulated or sealed from mice, so we may not make the bed up anymore - best for sleeping bags!).
The house has some connection to Marin County Rock and Roll bands and was said to be a beach house for the Steve Miller Band at one time. Grateful Dead songwriter Robert Hunter stayed in the house as a guest before he died. The Chris Robinson brotherhood shot photos for one of their albums on the property in recent years.
The house is located next to a lovely fresh water creek teeming with native plants and visited by wildlife, including deer, foxes, bats, ducks, grebes, egrets, hawks, warblers, flycatchers and many others. In March of 2009 we witnessed a 20' steelhead trout spawning below our dining room window! During most of the year, deer are nearby and visit often. In the late spring, we see their fawns running around.
The house is on quarter acre that borders the north end of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Stinson Beach Park so it feels like you are on a very large piece of land. At night, a private back gate and path to the Stinson Beach Park parking lot allows you to slip out to the beach without passing neighbor houses.
Sit in the upstairs living room and gaze out at the ocean as the sun streams in the windows. The grassy and forested landscape allows for great exploring with children and quiet contemplative moments in nature.
From the bedroom deck (new redwood decking in January, 2021) on the back, you are right on the edge of the native willow forest with lovely views to the mountain and the waves. We often see deer, hawks and other wildlife just below. Nice oak floors upstairs and heated tile floors down. Two couches (new in summer 2020) frame an updated fireplace stove that warms the whole room. Table for six looks out on creek with morning sun streaming in for breakfast. We have chairs to seat up to 10 people outside if you want to entertain. An extra card table is available in the corner bedroom closet and another small table is available on the upper deck.
Decks on three sides of the second floor give you a great sense of loft and perspective among the native willow trees and orange nasturtium blossoms. Flagstone patio leads to great Hot Spring spa in private spot to relax. Nicely appointed kitchen and lots of space to settle in and find serenity.
Walk 300 yards to beach or 500 to the town. Three great restaurants, take-out pizza at Parkside, and the entire GGNRA (National Park) beach to yourself after the park closes at sunset or before it opens at 9 in the morning. We have mint and apples growing on the property.
The house sleeps 8-10 with two queen beds in two of the bedrooms, a bunk bed set in the third bedroom, a queen-sized temperpedic mattress with a privacy curtain and sofa bed in the playroom downstairs, and twin size bed in a rustic cabin across the patio. Also, you may set up tents in the yard or two futon mattresses for children or guests (you must bring the tents ;)
Antiques and art that were collected over a span of more than 30 years are found in every room. It's an interesting place, inside and out, for a beach rental . It is, however, rather rustic. The floors are the original wood floors and have worn down a bit over the years (and may have decades of dust in the cracks!). The kitchen counters are wooden as well and show some wear. We have a wonderful collection of books, CDs and New Yorker magazines as well.
We do not have pets and do not wish to have visitors bring pets on the property. $500 security deposit and $260 for cleaning required. Generally, we require payment in full before the dates can be secured.

Very rustic but offers a lot of sleeping options with 2 nice bedrooms and other possibilities. Owner was very prompt to communicate and even let us in early but we had to wait on the cleaners. The place could really use some deep cleaning in kitchen. bathrooms and drawers. The location to the beach was fantastic. We enjoyed the campfire one night. Private in spite of populated street.

I loved the creek and informal garden around the house, and the secret hidden gate and path to the beach. The house is very private, with views of the ocean from the second floor, where the main living areas are located.
The house is charming and attractive. The master bedroom and bathroom are perfect, and the kitchen well equipped. There are additional bedrooms on the lower floor, a bit mustier, as is typical near the ocean.
I would have loved to spend more time than the single week we had here.

We booked this house for a Thanksgiving getaway and then Covid interrupted our plans. Still, my husband and I had a totally relaxing stay at Charles's beach cabin. We have been renting in West Marin for many, many years and have stayed in fancier places where the furnishings looked great but weren't actually comfortable, with no reading lights or books or human touches. In contrast this place has a lot of personality--with books and art, several places to curl up and read, heated floors in the bathroom and ground floor (an especially nice feature), an efficient wood stove, all the cooking implements you might need, and comfy beds (though I was glad I had brought my own pillows). It may be a bit rustic for some, but we loved being so close to the beach--waves lulled us to sleep and we could gaze at the breakers while drinking our morning coffee. We live just over the hill in Sausalito and to wake up in one of our favorite places was just delightful.

Excellent location, steps from the beach and downtown shops and restaurants. Very well equipped with everything we needed. Love the outdoor shower and hot tub after time at the beach. Property is as described and as it looks in the pictures. Comfortable for 10 of us, nice big table for meals, lots of living room seating, large deck, great BBQ. Communication with Charles was very easy and he was available if we needed him. This was our second stay and we hope to return again.

We had an amazing time. The check in process was very easy. Working with the owner was easy and seamless, easy to communicate with. The house is so close to the beach. The kitchen was well stocked. We even had a visit from some deer in the morning.

The house fit all our needs. Close to the beach, lots of sleeping options, and charm.

Beautiful rustic property. Beach right through the trees. Not your place if seeking ultra modern property. House is big, lots of sleeping areas. Lots of cool artwork. The grounds are beautiful, nature has been given the chance to run wild. Local restaurant was excellent. Wood-stove and hot tub were great.

We enjoyed this property with our extended family, including kids. The location can’t be beat and the kids had a great time playing in the creek when not at the beach. The kitchen is well stocked and we had everything we needed. Great place to stay!

While it rained a lot - we appreciated the owners tip to bring rain boots. Those came in very hand. There were plenty of space heaters and blankets to keep everyone warm- even those in the outside rooms.
We enjoyed long walks on the beach, late nights or early mornings in the hot tub and just listening to the surf at night. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances and we even tried out the professional waffle maker. Very fun. Hope to come back again.

Charles provides an amazing home and great communication as a host. The home was the perfect balance between character and comfort that we were looking for on this trip. The property is a quick walk to the beach and town. The home provided great space for multiple friends and family; it offers privacy for those that want it as well as place to socialize.
The private trail to the beach was a hit with our crew. There were deer, including a beautiful buck, every day. You can see the ocean from the deck as well as the kitchen table.
We truly enjoyed this unique property and can't recommend it enough. We are already planning another get together here in the years to come.

This is a very special location because it is extremely close to the beach (there's even a secret path to the Stinson Beach parking lot behind the hot tub), but the house is also surrounded by a decent amount of wild land, so it feels more secluded. My children loved picking apples from the huge apple tree out front, and seeing the deer that also came to enjoy some apples. The house is also within a half mile of both the Matt Davis and Dipsea trailheads.

Rustic indeed but perfect for us. Big enough for nine of us to have privacy. The hot tub was awesome. Walk one way to the beach in ten minutes, walk the other way for 15 and you're in town.

My wife and I stayed at the house for a month and had a wonderful time. Aside from the amazing location on Stinson Beach, the house was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. The house was also big enough so my wife and I had enough room to set up remote offices during our stay. The strong Wi-Fi also helped. Charles was a very responsive host and made sure we had all the amenities we needed to enjoy our stay. We had a memorable vacation.

Great all around. Good mixture of funky, comfort, and excellence. Great location. Plenty of room and amenities. Could be cleaner, with cooking pan upgrades and garbage bags supplied. A bit dusty, but good fun!

What a stellar get away!
My group and I can't say enough great things about Charles and his property! It was the perfect fit for us. The location is spectacular. Just a few walks from the beach + shops + town. If you looked off the balcony or got a view from the master bedroom you can watch the waves. The beds were super comfy, sheets & towels smelled fresh and clean. The two bedrooms that were off the main property outside were great for the light sleepers. The number of bathrooms (2 full and 2 half) made it so easy for everyone to have the personal space they needed. The style of the home was a very eclectic cabin vibe which I personally loved. The backyard/front yard with the creek running through it was an oasis to walk through. The hot tub was just what we needed and the outdoor shower was a beautiful jungle vibe after the hot tub that we had no idea we needed but thoroughly enjoyed. Charles was super easy to connect with to ask any questions that arose. He also was very relaxed in letting us have an early arrival + late checkout. I would recommend this house and Charles as a host any day and we will hopefully be coming back again :)

Our family had a wonderful time at this home. It is funky - you can feel the history- and cozy and in a perfect location just a stones throw to the beach and to town. We especially enjoyed the big hearth in the main room and the hot tub after surfing and paddle-boarding. Charles communicated promptly and was very helpful getting me a few things we left at the place. We will rent again!

This home was just right for our diverse family with different ages and expectations. It was too precious that we worried about making a mess. Its location allowed us to easily walk to Parkside for a coffee and pastry, go to the market or for different family members to escape for some fresh air on the beach. We started a fire inside to keep us warm for our winter visit. The radiant heating keeps the downstairs warm. We would definitely stay again.

3-bedroom house with a couple of extra cottage-like rooms and a hottub around the side. I do recommend reading the house guide about which heaters to use BEFORE you turn any on, so you don't make our mistake and blow a fuse (which was easily fixed with a call to the owner, who was easily accessible). Best part: the cozy, comfortable quilts on the beds got rave reviews from many members of our party. The house is by a creek, so has a natural-feeling, not manicured style of yard.

We had a wonderful time at this property! The location was amazing with the beach being a stoned throw away. The cafes and restaurants were all around us and hiking trails very accessible. The property itself is very quirky and figuring out bedding for everyone was a bit of a quandary but it all worked out in the end. We ended up putting the teens downstairs and one teen in the cabin. The bunk beds didn't get used. The host was very communicative. We would definitely come back again next year!

We totally enjoyed this comfortable, funky beach house. We had friends & family over one day for lunch & kite flying on the beach and everything we needed in the kitchen was there, including lots of large serving bowls & platters, utensils, etc. Walking distance to beach and to the Stinson Beach town. A gorgeous weekend of sunny & warm weather didn’t hurt either. Owner Charles was very responsive & accomodating. Would come back again.

So much to explore - both on the property and on the beach…just steps away! My young ones loved the location, the bunk beds, the classic dvd collection, the shells. We loved the comfortable and well-equipped home, the quiet, and the ease of being that close to the beach!

Perfect location for beach week
Thank you to Charles for accommodating our group for a fantastic 4th of July beach week! The main house has a great vibe. We loved hanging out in the open concept living/kitchen area with views of the ocean. The deck was the perfect spot to have coffee in the morning and drinks at night while listening to the waves. Our kids loved the bunk beds and the proximity to the playground, fields and, of course, the beach. We didn’t have to get into the car for an entire week — everything is within easy walking distance. Charles is a great communicator and was extremely accommodating. While we didn’t use the cabins, the kids got a kick out of exploring them. They could be used for additional guests who are up for more rustic accommodations. Outdoor shower and hot tub were a major plus. Thank you, Charles!

The house was homey and comfortable with amazingly close access to the beach and "downtown". The house and grounds set-up allowed for both privacy and gathering as a group. Charles, the host, was super accessible and very cool.
