The property was just what we wanted. We wanted to unplug, get away from the crowds and put the phones down. It was awesome, we saw a few people, but it wasn't really a distraction, and we had the beautiful night skies to ourselves. Canoed and swam in the clear waters of the lake, and hiked in Smoky Mountains National Park.
If you want to escape the daily grind, and relax this is the place. I highly recommend it.
The only small nitpick that was easily overcome is that because of lack of cell service it is difficult to communicate with the owner. However, all the positives far out weigh this small complaint.

This is our second time staying at the amazing boathouse on Fontana. Gorgeous views and a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the quiet in this off grid home. We had so much fun, swimming, paddling around in the kayak and grilling fabulous meals on the deck.

Cute little house on the water. Easy paddle using owner’s canoe. We had the entire cove to ourselves during our stay. Nice place to go if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

I have stayed here 3-4 times now and have enjoyed it every time. The only issue I've ever had is a neighbor playing loud music, but that's only happened once. It's lovely and serene.

My wife and I stayed for three days with our pup and it couldnt have been a better getaway. Everything from check in to check out was so smooth; Gaylene is an awesome host and will help with whatever questions you have. Since this is a unique getaway, it does come with detailed rules and instructions to make your stay optimal so if you follow all details, your stay will be amazing. Prepare for hot days and nights in the Summer though as the houseboat does heat up quickly. All in all, the stay was awesome and we will definitely return in the future.

Had a great time staying here!

Took us about an hour to canoe to Gaylene's boathouse from Oros Landing. Boathouse had everything supplied, as stated for our four day stay. We barely used any of the solar power (used to power lights, refrigerator, water pump, etc.), but we spent the entire time outside swimming and fishing when it was daylight. Had no cell phone reception, but we expected that, as was indicated, & was more than happy to get away from all the "noise." Would definitely recommend, without reservation, Gaylene’s boathouse for those that are adventurous.

This was my fourth trip to the houseboat and it never disappoints!! The weather was a little rainy on Sunday, but the clouds broke out in the afternoon and it was beautiful. Take advantage of the kayak!! There is so much beauty to take in.

Gaylene was great, but instructions to get to house boat were unclear and distance to boat needed to be more specific. Focus was more on pictures and leaving the boat clean and sending pictures to renter. Pictures of boat were misleading. Definitely needs to be a small generator for specific needs and not sure how often mattress cover was washed after each visit. Gaylene did do an excellent job in meeting our needs for the solar power.

Loved staying at your boathouse! It’s the cleanest boathouse we’ve ever stayed at. First time we’ve ever had a hot shower on Fontana Lake! Everything works great. We’ll definitely stay at it again.

This was my third trip to the boathouse and my first going solo and first in the fall. It’s gorgeous and the lake was warmer than it was outside. Only negative thing is that I was only able to spend one night due to a last minute family obligation. This place is pure magic. Every time I go I scour the internet for houseboats for sale. It’s not a typical “vacation”, but if it sounds like something you’d love you absolutely will.

If you love being on the water and away from the crowd this is the right place. Beautiful scenery and pease and quiet. Definitely not for the person that likes the amenities of a hotel. Love this place!

My 65 year old mother and I stayed at this house boat for the first time over Labor Day. Gaylene was an awesome host and made the check in/out process super easy by providing us with specific instructions and ample information. We opted to use her canoe and docked at the Orlos boat landing. We struggled a bit to find the dock area because it was unmarked, but luckily we ran into a few locals who were nice enough to point us in the right direction. It took us about 30 mins to row out there, the lake was super calm and paddling wasn’t too hard. The house boat is beautiful and had everything we could possibly need! The views were incredible and the water was the perfect temperature. The lake was pretty much empty so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! It was a truly magical experience and we can’t wait to go back!

This is the second year we have stayed here and it was even better than last time. The power was even longer lasting and we had zero issues. Gaylene's instructions were clear and easy to follow. Thanks so much and we can't wait to stay again!

This is my second stay and I enjoyed it just as much as my first. Be sure to bring bug spray if you're staying in August, the black flies were no joke.

This is an excellent spot to relax with nature and enjoy the water. There were very few boats or other people around. The house is as advertised, be sure to read the description as this is not your typical rental, but it’s wonderful and a great adventure. If you are staying before fall 2023, be aware that the refrigerator took several days to cool down to a safe temperature, so take plenty of ice in your cooler. The owner is replacing it soon so it shouldn’t be an issue much longer.

The property was as promised. Very well appointed and comfortable for two grown adults to enjoy a few days on the lake. We brought our own boat and had no issues tying up and getting to good fishing grounds. It was very cloudy for a few days, so the battery power struggled at times but witha grill and propane cooktop everything worked out, great,. I would recommend bringing a water filter to have drinking water And a few lanterns just to conserve power when needed.
Overall im putting it in our list of return spots.

I had an absolutely amazing stay at this house on the lake. The scenery was simply breathtaking, and the remote location allowed me to truly unwind and forget about the stresses of everyday life. The peacefulness of the area was so rejuvenating, and I found myself feeling more relaxed and refreshed every day. The house itself was cozy and comfortable, and I felt right at home from the moment I arrived. There were so many fun activities to enjoy on the lake, and I spent my days swimming, fishing, and boating. It was truly a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I am so grateful to Gaylene and her Wonderful husband for sharing her beautiful home with us. It was clear that she had put a lot of thought and care into making sure that her guests had everything they needed to enjoy their stay. I will definitely be returning to this amazing place every year to recharge my batteries and take a break from the fast pace of city life. Thank you, Gaylene, for providing such a wonderful retreat for us to enjoy!

My boyfriend and I stayed in this boathouse to celebrate my 30th birthday, and it was such a pleasant experience. All the instructions were to the T, and everything turned out to be a great weekend getaway. I may add that the pictures online don’t do this place justice! We will BE BACK!!! Until next time. Cheers!!!
