About this house rental
Please note that there is construction going on next door to this property. Construction noises and vehicles will be heard during weekdays. Construction should not occur in the evenings or on weekends.
This beautiful home located downtown on Main Street, Blowing Rock, combines the charm of a historic home with comfortable modern amenities such as central AC within easy distance to all Main Street shops, restaurants, and attractions.
Originally built in the early 1900s, this Mission-style bungalow with a large front yard was once one of many lining the main road through old Blowing Rock. Now this lovely Arts & Crafts home is one of very few remaining, and great care was taken in the restoration of this beautiful home. The inside features original pine wood floors, walls made of antique wormy chestnut, and old-fashioned wind-catcher windows made of wavy glass.
Step through the back door of the home into the kitchen which is equipped with all the modern appliances and stocked with every gadget you may need. The floor has a beautiful faux rug, hand painted by the owner-artist, and the walls have dried flowers embedded in the stucco, all lending warmth to the room. There is a table with three chairs in the kitchen, and just off the kitchen is a day room with an additional round table for four more chairs under a beautiful Tiffany light fixture. A twin bed with a high-quality mattress lines one wall where guests can lounge with a book or curl up for a nap. This room also has an antique book cabinet with a selection of board games, and adorning the wall is one of the earliest known pictures of The Blowing Rock attraction.
Off the day room is the master bedroom suite. This room was added later, around the 1950s, and this room features a queen bed in a frame custom made of quarter-sawn oak wood, a flat screen TV, a bedside table handmade by the owner-artistr, and a private bath with a tub/shower.
On the other side of the kitchen is a door to the original bathroom of the home. Carefully restored to be just as it was in the early 1900s, this room has a claw foot bathtub (no shower), a sink with individual spigots for hot and cold water, an original glass towel rod, and a toilet with a pull chain to flush.
Enter the living room from the bathroom or dayroom. This warm, welcoming room is dominated by a floor-to-ceiling gas-log fireplace made of free-stacked stone quarried from nearby Grandfather Mountain. The leather furnishings surround the fireplace and its neighboring 32-inch flatscreen TV. Also here are a DVD player, 5-disc CD player, and classic stereo radio. A Tiffany lamp hangs overhead, and the two exposed beams running across the ceiling have artful indirect lighting attached. The hand-woven rug covers the floor, and there are handmade afghans to snuggle up in. Also in this room is a copy of Historic & Architectural Homes of Watauga County, featuring this cottage, as well as a history of the home itself.
Upstairs are two bedrooms. The room to the left at the top of the stairs has two full beds in custom frames commissioned by a once prominent innkeeper in Blowing Rock. This bedroom has a skylight as well as a small landing with balcony overlooking the living room where children of all ages may enjoy putting on mini performances for their fellow guests.
The other bedroom has a Queen bed with an antique armoire and an exposed-beam ceiling. All three bedrooms in the home have cozy down/feather linens and comforters. Antique Norman Rockwell artwork decorate these two bedrooms. The bathroom at the end of the hall was also added in the 1950s and contains a tub/shower, an antique wash table, copper mirror lamps, and two large closets for additional storage space.
The covered front porch of the home faces Main Street. Enjoy the tranquility and peaceful views of our wonderful town from the handmade gliders as you watch people stroll by. On the back porch, you can barbeque dinner on the gas grill. And the laundry room with the washer and dryer and some yard games including croquet and Frisbee is here as well. Enjoy playing games in the large, gently sloping yard in front of the home.
The garden behind the home features a pergola and gazebo with lounging chairs, with ivy growing the posts of the gazebo. Rock walls line the edge of the garden, and an original stone path winds around the side of the house, all made of rock also quarried from Grandfather Mountain. Many traditional medicinal plants as well as savory herbs are grown here, and you are encouraged to pinch off any you need. The gardens have been featured on several Blowing Rock Garden Tours, conducted by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce.
The home is perfectly located in downtown Blowing Rock, within walking distance to all that the town has to offer. There is ample level paved parking behind the home, so you will never need to worry about finding a parking space in the downtown area. Attractions and features include shopping, casual and upscale dining, the new Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, the Blowing Rock Stage Company, Memorial Park, public swimming pool, art galleries, Annie Cannon Gardens, and the Glen Burney hiking trail. There is even a shortcut to beautiful Bass Lake with walking trails located just behind the property. Boone and all it has to offer is just 10 minutes away, the Blue Ridge Parkway is less than one mile away, the Blowing Rock attraction, Appalachian Ski Mountain and Tweetsie Railroad are just 5 minutes away, and other ski and snow tubing and zipline resorts along with other popular outdoor recreation areas and great shopping and dining venues are just a short drive away.
You're sure to love stepping back to a simpler time where your own two feet provide all the transportation you need for relaxing living. The classically beautiful home, truly A Village Treasure, awaits for you to experience turn-of-the-century charm in our picturesque small town.

I have stayed at Suddreth Cottage before. I enjoy its older character, lovely grounds and easy walk to the middle of town. Nothing is modern in the house so if you want up to date appliances and TV/streaming entertainment - this is not the place for you. If those things are not important to you, you will likely find the cottage a charming respite

Stayed at Suddreth Cottage in Blowing rock. Cute and historic cottage. Ample space for our group of 3. Could easily have accommodated more. Kitchen well supplied. So close to all you want to do in downtown Blowing Rock and easy peasy ride to Blue Ridge Parkway for hiking or viewing the sunset. Communication good with host. We recommend this place!!

We loved our stay in this authentic arts and crafts cottage. It's truly adorable, and the location cannot be beat. I will be back!

This property is advertised as a great winter rental. In just normal winter weather this is not a good property . The charm etc of the cottage is charming, the fact that it is so old and not able to retain heat is unacceptable, and strongly feel it should be listed as such.
Warn ppl. I had one elderly friend who slept in his clothing for three nights. Pipes froze in kitchen, which was acceptable considering the deep freeze. Once pipes thawed, we then had virtually no hot water in any of the bathrooms. Which resulted in no showers for the last two days. Friends stayed in first floor bedroom needed to purchase an additional heat source on Sat from Tractor Supply. We put towels around the windows, taped doors, etc to try and keep the cold out.
I realize the extreme cold was once in a 40 year timeframe, but the house is not fit for normal winter weather. I grew up in Vermont, not one to shy away from the cold.
I would never recommend this property rental in the winter.
False advertising.
I’ve rented in Blowing Rock for over 20 years. This by far was the worst and most disappointing.
Christmas was a total bust. Very sad.

We ended up not staying in the house. We went the first day and the house layout is not great for small kids. The staircase was a little shaky and the bedrooms opening up right to the stairs is not great for small kids. I think we would have felt differently if it were just my wife and I.

Great location but several issues
The house was great location, easy walk to town and events. It was older home and appeared out of date but it went perfect with the style of home. We really liked the style.
But upon arrival, the parking are was iced over with only a little sand to spread where needed to walk to house by from car. There was another house right behind ours so it would difficult for additional cars to park and turn around with the ice.
Inside issues (keep in mind there are 3 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms-possibly 6 adults could have been there):
The shower head did not work in master downstairs bath so had to take a bath instead of showering. The other downstairs bath, only had tub.
The shower head upstairs spouted water across bathroom. The hot water faucet, leaked.
And only one person could bath/shower due to lack of water pressure and hot water. Huge issue when everyone is trying to get ready at same time. And this is
A couple of small issues:
No hand soap in the bathrooms so we had to buy our own.
No extra toliet paper in upstairs bathroom. Took extra from other downstairs bathroom.
Trash can in kitchen was a taller can with just a grocery store/Walmart bag in it. It filled up quickly then dropped to the bottom of the can when we filled it up. And no extra trash bags in kitchen.
Bed in upstairs bedroom were worn down on one side also. Otherwise it was comfy.
The other bedroom was very dark. The lighting definitely needs to be brighter. We stayed in other bedroom which had plenty of light.
I have talked to the rental company and just waiting on issues to be addressed. They were very receptive!

Walking distance to town
We stayed with 6 adults and enjoyed the front porch and ability to be together and walk to town. It is important to remember that the house was built in the 1800’s. Bathrooms are dated and the house is a little dark. Enjoyed reading the history of the house .

Smack Dab In the Middle of Blowing Rock
We couldn't have asked for a better property. The house and grounds are charming and very well kept. The address is Main St., but the house sits well back from the road and feels very private. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well appointed. This is an historic house so the stairs creak and the screen doors slap, but that only added to the charm for us. Everything is in walking distance. Great experience.

Wonderful stay
Needs a bit updating. Toilet seats too low for older adults. Toilet lid upstairs kept coming off, kitchen pots and pans need replacing _ food sticks. Grill did not work. Igniter broken. Sink in upstairs bathroom does not drain well. Shower downstairs has no water power .these are all minor fixes. Location location location. Thank you for a nice stay.

Large quiet property just a short walk from all that Downtown Blowing Rock has to offer. The house was spacious and clean and the outdoor areas were great for coffee or afternoon cocktails. Property Mgr was great and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Downtown Blowing Rock Gem
We recently stayed with family in this perfect cottage, the pictures on the listing don't quite do the place justice! The cottage was immaculately clean upon arrival and just the right amount of space for us (4 adults and 1 kid.) The location was exceptional, we walked to all of our meals and this is just a few minutes walk from an amazing park for kids of all ages. Highly recommend Suddreth Cottage, we will be back!

Wonderful visit to Blowing rock. Walkable to restaurants and shopping downtown.
Lovingly restored cottage close to Main Street. Very charming. Very close to nearby attractions and hiking trails. We wished the windows in the first floor bedroom could have opened because that room gets a little stuffy. I think they are painted shut? And we missed having a colander to drain pasta or dishrag to wipe the counters - I am a very tidy renter ;) Had to use wet paper towels. Other than those small things, it was delightful. Would rent it again.

Cozy Cottage
We enjoyed our stay in Blowing Rock at the Suddreth Cottage. The location was perfect and we enjoyed walking downtown to eat and shop. The cottage is quaint and starting to show its age. We could not seem to get the heat regulated - it is sweltering in the two upstairs bedrooms, but freezing in the "master bedroom" downstairs. Also, we repeatedly tried to get in touch with property management to fix a broken bed, but after repeated attempts we gave up and slept on the floor. So, don't expect to get anything fixed while you are there. Overall it was a fun weekend in Blowing Rock.

Enjoyable Week
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Suddreth Cottage, especially being able to walk downtown for shopping and dining. We were pleasantly surprised shortly after arriving when the owner came by to check on something. She gave us a personal tour and history of the house, and pointed out her personal painting and decorating touches. Hearing her describe the restoration of the 100 year-old house was fascinating!

Fine
Nice but had a musty smell due to the age.
One washcloth per person for 5 days was a challenge. I bought extras at a Walmart.

Amazing location
The Suddreth Cottage is in an amazing location just a few steps from downtown Blowing Rock. The ability to walk anywhere in town easily is simply wonderful. Our only issue was not realizing that basic kitchen supplies (cooking oil, some basic spices, etc) were not provided. An easy fix and beyond that, we had a fantastic stay.

Lovely home, great location
We had a blast with our little family. Quirky, historic, interesting home within easy walking distance of everything to do downtown. I would definitely NOT go until the construction is finished next door, though. It was CRAZY LOUD starting at 7am and some days they went till 8pm. We knew there "could be noise during the day" as included in the posting, but this was way louder and way longer than we anticipated. The driveway was also littered with nails yesterday - thank God my husband spotted them before we ran them over. Wait till all that mess is done and then visit - the property really is lovely.
I would also recommend packing some extra towels and pillows if traveling with more than 4 ppl.

Cute cottage in great location
We loved being so close to town. Very charming with the fireplace and rocking chairs. Loved the front porch. There seems to be little insulation (old house) as noises travelled everywhere and it got hit upstairs while cool elsewhere. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Thanksgiving Family Trip
We enjoyed being together in the cottage. The location was perfect. The stairs and floors are creaky, but we were aware of that before making our reservation. The noise carries in the house so it was hard for those who liked to go to sleep earlier than the rest. The old plumbing and fixtures are charming but could use some fine tuning. Loved the gas fireplace. The kitchen had practically everything we needed to cook our full Thanksgiving feast.

We had a great time in this charming house over the Halloween weekend. It is at most a 2 minute walk to the main thoroughfare of Blowing Rock. A lot of time and effort was put forth revamping this old gem of a home. We will be back!

We just enjoyed being so close to downtown
The house was rather loud in that wooden floors will be that way. The hinges and door knobs could use some WD oil.
But you expect that in an old house. We much preferred that to a motel.
