Inside the cottage, you will find rustic Canadiana-themed decor with beautiful artwork, hardwood floors throughout, and a slate-tiled bathroom. The large open-concept kitchen-living room gives a spacious feel. The master bedroom has a queen bed, and a walk-out balcony - perfect for some quiet reading or morning coffee. The second bedroom has a double bed. There is a loft bedroom with a double bed - the loft is accessed by a Japanese ladder, and there are wood railings with tempered glass around the opening. There are large windows with screens which can open to let a nice breeze in. Guests will need to bring their own bath, beach, and kitchen towels as there are no laundry facilities on site.
There is lots of room to prepare and enjoy meals and relax, playing games or reading by the fire at the end of the day. Alternately, spend your evening toasting marshmallows over an open-air fire, or head down to the river for some fishing.
This "eco" cabin is fully wired and is "off the grid" using solar system energy. The cottage is wired with 12 volts (you can recharge devices using a 12-volt car charger plug that you bring with you as there are outlets for this in the cottage but you cannot plug in 110-volt appliances). The fridge and stovetop run with propane (there is no oven). There is a propane BBQ with a constant fuel supply. There is hot and cold running river water in the kitchen and bathroom sink, shower, and bidet. Bottled drinking water must be brought in from town, where you can fill up for free. There is an enviro-compost toilet inside the cottage and an outhouse.
The cottage is on 400 feet of waterfront and is accessed by a steep path and stairs from the cottage.
We are happy to communicate with guests before and during their arrival. We will be either in Toronto or on vacation while you stay at our cottage. The cottage is serviced by a local cleaning agency between guests. They also check the condition of the cottage before and after your stay.

Awesome time at an amazing property

A little piece of paradise. Quiet, full of wildlife, private. Very clean.

Loved the access to the water and the use of kayak and canoe. A bit too rustic for the Gen-Alpha group but they learned some board-games. Great down-time.

The location is private and scenic, the water is beautiful and the cottage is comfortable. You can tell someone has put in a lot of blood sweat and tears to make this spot the best it can be. Would come back in a heartbeat!

Had a great 4 nights here with family. Property is incredibly peaceful and set in stunning woodland. Really felt like getting away from urban life. The cottage is very rustic, somewhat basic inside but clean and functional. The ladder to the attic needs to be approached with care. The views from the living area out into the woods and river are spectacular. Sunroom was a beautiful space.
Toilet is an out door hole in the ground, 30m from the property, but done well and clean. You are discouraged from using the internal compost toilet. We saw no trace of mice.
There is a trampoline, swing and treehouse which our kids 3 and 6 loved and played on all week.
Mosquitos are ever present but not a massive issue with repellant, we sat out most evenings.
Main disappointment is the river is relatively fast flowing and there is a rapids about 100m downstream. Swimming is therefore not possible unless you are confident, and certainly not for kids. We messed around in the canoe but this did limit options. The rapids are themselves beautiful, and easily reached from a path through the grounds.
The entire deck area flooded with around a foot of water overnight one night, which there was no warning of, but had cleared by lunchtime. Fortunately nothing washed away.
Overall loved it, but next time would look for somewhere with safer swimming. Despite this our kids were never bored. Would fully recommend for anyone who this isn’t a concern for, who wants to get off the grid.

The property is located in a beautiful area, but you need to be quite careful when driving up to it - low cars would absolutely NOT be able to safely arrive. The deep woods means lots of mosquitos in July, so hiking wasn’t possible for us. The current was strong so swimming and canoeing were also a no. But, the fire pits outside and general view were spectacular. The sun room was great for being outdoors sans insects, but the whole group got eaten alive anyways and we didn’t use the outhouse as a result. We had no problems with electricity, but didn’t have water by the last night of the trip and that was incredibly challenging and gross. While the cottage itself was beautiful, the absence of fans was incredibly difficult in the humidity - many of us didn’t sleep very well as a result. Expectedly, there were mice but we remained diligent about keeping things clean and stored properly. This is a good place to be in nature and unplug with virtually no one around. The kitchen is very well stocked for all of your needs and the barbecue was great. While I would recommend a stay for experienced cottagers, the glamour of the photos does not indicate how physically comfortable you’d be.

A hidden gem in the woods.

Cute cottage immersed in the woods, with your personal lake and a very relaxing view.
The children really enjoyed being in the lake, the trampoline and chasing frogs. Our enemies were the mosquitoes OMG! overall we really enjoyed our time there. Thank you Yolanda for all your help!

Great place to just get away from everything

Yolanda and Carlos were terrific hosts - always accessible.
The Moon river had a strong current and there’s a small waterfall about a 100 metres on the right - so watch out while using kayaks and going too far. Use the property as the boundary.
Internet is good. Good LED lighting. No TV.
Bring a back up storage battery and a projector if the kids want a movie night. That’s what we did.
Kitchen is well equipped. No microwave (because of the power limit).
BBQ is in good condition. Don’t use the Brush. Use an onion dipped in olive oil to clean and season the grill.
Hope you enjoy your trip as we did.
Thank you Yolanda and Carlos!!

My family and I had a wonderful time the river was amazing for swimming, close to town, made use of the life jackets, canoes, and kayaks that were provided, great fishing, overall a great week getaway thank you to the hosts, would recommend to anyone !!

We had a wonderful time at Over the Moon cottage. The water was calm during our stay and so clear you could see the bottom, excellent for swimming. The setting could not be more peaceful and serene. The children (ages 7 and 9) loved playing on the rocks along the shoreline. Yolanda and Carlos were fantastic hosts, and very easy to communicate with. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely love to come back!

A beautiful property with only one neighbour. A responsive and gracious Owner. A quintessential cottage. Lots to like.

The cottage was comfortable, however cleanliness was not acceptable. The property owner quickly contacted the cleaners who were unable to come and clean, she offered to drive two hours to come clean, my husband and I did the cleaning, the owner said she would reimbursement the cleaning fee
During our week the river flooded the dock daily and was very fast moving, we couldn’t enjoy swimming as it was to dangerous, this is completely out of the owners control, however it should be noted
We took living off the grid as a challenge, we had absolutely no problem with lighting, hot water or charging devices and our week wasn’t particularly sunny

Everything worked well and the owners were responsive. Water access was restricted (dock was under water) due to unusually high water levels. The current was too strong for swimming.

Beautiful location! Peaceful and quiet. Just what we were looking for!
Lots for the kids to do (tree house, trampoline, and swings), and all within eyesight of the parents.
The whole family can take the steps down to the river to enjoy the view.
And, everything is within reach, just where you thought you'd find it. Well equipped and welcoming, this cottage is everything you'd hope for in your Muskoka retreat.
Thank you to our hosts for sharing Over the Moon with us!

This cottage was very unique, artistic, rustic, in the heart of the woods with waterfront, quiet and simply perfect for someone who is seeking comfort but wants to be closest possible to the nature! We loved every single minute of our stay here. Would definitely go back! Owners were very responsive, the fridge faced an issue and within a few hours the owner drove all the way from Toronto to come fix it. Would strongly recommend this cottage.

We had a great time! The cottage is beautifully decorated, the river is stunning and the host was very responsive and helpful. The property is close enough to town to easily get what you need but also felt private and peaceful.

Our second time renting here, and even more lovely. This is a unique spot for people who appreciate true natural beauty and are up for something different. Comfortable, clean, and full of things to do, like canoe, swim, read in the hammock,
Firepit, trampoline, tree house. You won’t miss your screens or wifi. My kids didn’t ask once for a screen. We recommend to families with kids older than 5, and not too too senior, simply due to the stairs. It is a great spot, and we expect to return again.

We had a great week at over the moon. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you need. The space is really wonderful and was more than enough room for our family of 4. Our 2 boys 7 & 9 both enjoyed all the amenities but spent most of the time in the river where the various water levels allowed you to either splash around in the water or swim back and forth to the floating dock. There was always enough power or propane available for lights, charging devices, bbq, cooking etc., Lastly, the hosts were very responsive and proactive to ensure we were comfortable.
