Immaculate place, very well presented. Cakes on arrival was a nice touch. Excellent breakfast. Nice to have a bath as well as a shower.
Room was small- but very smart

From the moment I booked, I got a warm feeling. The owners called me back when they were unavailable to answer my call,.and they were really helpful. This place has great views and is spotlessly clean, and everything is freshly painted, and the decor is lovely and relaxing. Clean towels and bedding and shampoo and shower gel in the shower. We had a full English breakfast and it was lovely and cooked just right. The staff are really friendly too, and very helpful. Our room was again spotless, and the bed was really comfortable and had a good night sleep. The village and places to eat were within walking distance away from Fern Howe, and as it is based at the bottom of Whinlatter, this made for easy access up to the Whinlatter visitors centre, and also very close to Keswick. I would highly recommend Fern Howe Guest House as a place to stay.
The only thing I could advise was for smaller basin in the shower room to allow a little more space, but this is a small thing which is totally out weighed by all of the other beautiful surroundings that Fern View has to offer.

Very clean and comfortable.
Salt, pepper and sugar dispenser not working. No napkins anywhere in dining area.

Very clean, very comfy, ideal location. We'll organised. Good system for breakfast. Like the focus on recycling and reducing food waste.
Room was just a bit smaller than we were used to. Earlier breakfast would have suited us better.

Out of the way, so peaceful, nice early morning pre- breakfast walks. Rooms, clean and very comfortable. Owner and staff friendly. Breakfast choices were good and delicious.
Local pub for evening meal and drinks about a 5 minute walk away, small village shop for any essential or snacks.
Highly recommended and will definitely book again!

The member of staff at breakfast remembered I had a soy allergy from the first mornings breakfast and later that day and the morning after they provided soy-free cake and bread for me! Room was very comfortable and great value for money!

Lovely location and views. The whole house was spotlessly clean and tidy. Beautifully decorated. Cake on arrival is always a plus! Great walking in the area without having to drive anywhere.
Nothing.

Delicious breakfast and lovely, spacious suite. Emma was very accommodating and the cake was a lovely touch.
Got the last parking spot but it was a bit precarious.

We were particularly impressed how clean and homey the place felt. The beds were really soft and comfortable, which is not always given. Dining room was really clean and neat, food was delicious and free cakes was a nice added bonus. Views from our windows were breath taking!

It was all perfect

The room was very comfy and the food available for breakfast was both tasty and diverse enough to accommodate people with different preferences.
Driving to and from the house is a bit tricky, as it is located alongside a fairly steep and narrow road.

The location was off the beaten track but once found wasn't a problem although up a hill we could walk from the village. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice of cereal fruit and yogurt cooked breakfast whatever we asked for.
Nothing not to like other than the 4pm check in although understandable.

Room was very clean, all bathroom facilities were spot on.
Breakfast was served on time. Polite and friendly staff.
It would have been better for an earlier check in time than 4pm.

Passive aggressive approach to a sensitive emergency medical issue. Only thing that is good was the breakfast and location.
We've booked 2 rooms for 7 people. 4 came from America and 3 local. The American party had a medical emergency and the adult (also driver to a 7 seater) had to cancel the flight to UK. I reached a week before with proof of flight cancellation and a Doctor recommendation to not move about (emergency surgery). The reply was very passive aggressive saying that they advice insurance (with a very educational tone) to their customers (as if for next time) and suggested the most ridiculous solution of me cancelling and in case she fills in my spot, she will refund me. I was beyond shocked and also found it wired as it is force major and also why would i leave it with her (or luck). After I came to the guest house I've realised that 2 (our rooms) out of 10 were actually empty - meaning she "nicely" offered a solution that she knew beforehand wouldn't work. We had to make big changes with flights and I had to hire a big car just for this trip. Breakfast was very good, place was clean, location was good. Only issue with the room was that the radiators have Honeywell valves and twice (at 11:30 and 11:45) make horrendous noise like drilling which woke us up. I've raised the issue at the end of our stay.
After check in I've received another 6 more emails and messages with the same content about a form (after filling it in at home twice and with Emma once). I haven't reported that but the amount of emails was just too much. The form is long and haven't encountered it in other hotels with my American family.
To anyone booking with Emma - bear in mind that free cancellation is 14 days before check in! I too am a host and have encountered a few cases like this and have always understood the situation of the other side + free cancellation is 24 hours before checkin and not 14 days.
