The kitchen includes a beautiful extra-large butcher block island, which offers great storage, plenty of prep space and seating for 8. There's also a coffee bar with both a drip and a Keurig coffee maker and shelves below for food storage if needed. The owners enjoy hosting large family dinners here so you should find it well equipped for your needs with plenty of dishes, utensils and gadgets, along with a few “home” touches such as an InstaPot, 3 crockpots, large griddle, 2 waffle irons and ice cream maker. The gas grill is on the upper deck right off the kitchen where there's an additional seating area offering a great option for lazy summer evenings.
The 2,000 sf basement includes 2 extra-large master suites, each with a shower bath and private patio. Each of these rooms also offers an additional sleeping option (double futon), which might work well for families with children. In the basement there's also a powder room and an additional kitchen area with a full-size fridge, microwave and Keurig, as well as an extra-large family room with a gaming area, puzzle table, foosball table and a comfortable area to watch TV. The 2-level sunroom addition offers a comfortable place to keep an eye on what's happening on the dock and in the yard or the perfect spot for a quiet afternoon nap. It's also a great place to gather at the end of the day to watch the sunset or just listen to the night sounds.
The house is decorated in a nautical theme through-out with many personal touches that really make it feel like a home away from home. This 4,600 sf home is family friendly with enough space for everyone! NOTE: Please no pets or smoking.
The large lot, brand new extra-large dock and amazing lake access mean the outside definitely won’t disappoint either. There’s ample parking in front for cars and trailers and the circular driveway leads directly to the private boat ramp, definitely a rare find on the lake! No need to go driving around on your first day looking for a public boat ramp or spending precious time at the end of the week driving to get everything loaded back up again - take one last sunset or sunrise cruise and then just back your trailer down the ramp. The cement boat ramp also offers a great place to launch kayaks from or to retrieve paddle boards and toys. The backyard has a very gentle slope leading to the boat dock and bulkhead area. The covered boat lifts are for owner's use only but there is space, along with available bumpers and cleats, on the ramp-side of the dock for 1 (one) guest boat. The water depth at the end of the dock is about 8’ and the cove is wide enough so there’s plenty of room to play or just float. The new dock includes a spacious second-level seating area with adequate tables and chairs, lounge chairs and an extra-large umbrella, making it one of the owner’s favorite spots to relax and spend the day. The main level of the dock offers a bar area complete with a fridge and covered seating area. There's a hammock and a swing in the backyard for those afternoons or evenings when you just need a shady, quiet spot. The house comes equipped with 4 adult kayaks, 2 child kayaks, 2 paddle boards and a large Lily Pad to help fill your days with fun and relaxation. A selection of child and adult vests are available for your use. And the large lakeside fire pit has space for everyone so the fun can continue way past sunset.
The house is an easy 30 minute drive from I-95 and a quick 15-minute drive to the local retail area that includes a Food Lion, Ace Hardware, Lake Gaston Pizza, Subway, a gas station and an ABC store. This area also includes 2 waterfront restaurants, The Pointe and Watersview. Be sure to stop by The Pointe during the day to feed their “pet” fish, play corn hole and take in one of the best sunset views on the lake. Norton’s at the Lake offers putt-putt, snowcones and a Saturday morning farmer’s market and flea market. The town of Roanoke Rapids is about 30 mins south if you’re looking for more shopping and dining options.
If you’ve ever been to Lake Gaston you know what a peaceful, family-friendly area it is, truly a hidden gem. Although the holiday weekends are a little busier, generally traffic on the lake is very light, which is great for tubing or skiing or just looking at all the gorgeous homes. Jimmie’s Creek is a wide creek, equally suitable for a quiet evening kayak or paddle board ride or making some waves on that new tube or wakeboard. For those of you who may be new to the lake or just lake vacations in general, come see what you’ve been missing! Enjoy an extra cup of morning coffee while you watch the ducks that visit daily, drop a line in the water and kick-back on the dock or just float your day away under a beautiful, Carolina-blue sky . . . .whatever respite you need from the real world, you’ll find it here at Lake Joy!

We stayed here in 2021 and fell in love with the home for our multi-family vacation; so when it was time to book Lake Gaston again we knew where we wanted to stay. They have a new deck that we enjoyed and spent many long days on. We had 3 families and still felt like we had more than enough of space. Three refrigerators which came in handy for our large party! One of which was at the dock. It helped having drinks at your fingertips and not having to go inside. There are plenty of small touches in the home that make the vacation perfect! I would recommend this house to anyone!

This was our family's fourth year staying in Sharon's house, which should tell you how much we love it. We love that it is so well stocked-from kitchen items to outdoor lake toys (paddle boards, kayaks, etc). We never leave the whole time we are at the house because there's so much to do right there! Be aware that you'll need to provide your own toilet paper, paper towels, etc as there are only 1-2 rolls provided. Thanks again, Sharon!

Overall the property was exactly as advertised. We enjoyed our stay. The decor was cute and the furnishings were comfortable. The kitchen was nicely stocked with utensils, dishes, etc. There are just a few minor issues that we encountered…
1. The step leading down from the dining room to the kitchen is a hazard. The step is painted the same color as the kitchen floor and is extremely hard to see. I would recommend putting tread strips on it or painting it a darker color.
2. The linens (towels specifically) smelled of cigarette smoke. We corrected this issue by easily washing the towels but if this is a service you pay for, I thought you may want to know.
3. Would recommend you replace your bed pillows as they were all very flat. Also, would have been nice to have a closet accessible in the bedrooms (there was one bedroom with closet access but it was so packed you couldn’t even hang any clothes in it).
Thanks!

We had such a great time at our first trip to Lake Gaston. What a hidden gem. The house is laid out perfectly for several families with three bed/bath suites. All of the upgrades the owners have done are beautiful, including the two 2-story boat dock. We weren't able to enjoy the water activities because we travelled in November, but still enjoyed the beautiful lake view and an evening fire. The owners were gracious hosts with all of the comforts of home available to the renters.

This is our third year at this lake house with family and it was fantastic once again. Such a relaxing area, a beautiful new deck (great for serving lunch while playing in the lake), and includes all of the water toys (kayaks/paddleboards/lily pads), making it fun for the whole family! We entertained ages 2-72 and everyone had a great time! Thanks for letting us use your house again, Sharon!

Overall the layout of the house was good for larger families but when we arrived we were less than impressed with the overall condition of the house. House was dirty with spider webs all over the outside of home. Inside had a lot of dust and just wasn’t up to the cleanliness we have experienced with other homes on VRBO.
Dock was great and was brand new. Great overall except the only place to put your boat was on the side as they don’t allow you to dock your boat in one of the slips. No cleats were provided and biggest issue is there is no lighting at the dock at all. Very disappointed especially if you go out for an evening boat ride. Have to come back to a completely dark dock.
Inside of the house had a good layout for larger family’s. The surprising thing is that they didn’t provide enough of what you needed for your stay. We were only provided 7 towels (2 per bathroom except one upstairs that was shared with two bedrooms that one they only provided one towel). Surprising because we told them how many we were bringing because the homeowner made sure to tell us the maximum amount allowed to stay in the house was 13. Also dishes and utensils were not enough for the number of people staying, 8 bowels and 10 plates for a home that could house 13??? Also a lot of the cabinets in the bathrooms are very shed and paint is chipping or peeling!
But by far the worse thing about the house was the hvac systems. We went in the beginning of fall when temps were not over 84 and the house never seemed to cool down. You arrive and unload you cars and the house is set at 80. House takes forever to cool down (if it actually does). Would NOT rent this house just because of this as we do not want to be sweating during our sleep. Can’t imagine how hard it was for renters during the summer!!
Overall good layout and great dock but not up to the standards for what I would expect for this price point especially for quality of the house and the cleanliness!

Very enjoyable and relaxing week. House exceeded all expectations. Owners were wonderful. View and being on the lake was great. House does have a lot of steps. The downstairs is a plus with its bedrooms and living room/kitchen. We had a private chef cook out back and it was wonderful. Walk to double decker boathouse is awesome. Great property!

Lake Joy was a Joy!
My entire family stayed at the property for a week and we had a blast! There were plenty of places to go to have a private conversation or to read a book and it never felt like we were on top of each other. We loved playing corn hole, paddle boarding and enjoying the dock and Lily Pad. We would definitely recommend this property.

Slice of Heaven!
We had an absolute great time at this home! The floor plan is excellent for families traveling together- it was actually more space than we needed. The kitchen is completely stocked with everything you need from A-Z. The home is clean, comfortable and decorated so cute! Our stay was three days but could have stayed forever. Five stars all the way around!

Beautiful lake and home with special touches
Our entire family had a wonderful time in this extremely spacious home. Not only was it immaculate, the owners ensure there is everything you need there. As a self subscribed Lennon snob, I was also very impressed with not only the very comfortable bedding and linens it also in every bathroom and the kitchen. I highly recommend a stay and this love way home

We had a little time to enjoy the kayaks and paddle boards on Saturday which was great. Highly recommend to others looking for a very nice place to stay!!!

Another great year at the lake house!
This is our second year in a row at this lake house in Henrico and it's something we have looked forward to since our last stay! Our group consisted of family (grown siblings) and their children. An awesome place with something to do for all ages. Everyone enjoyed all of the kayaks, paddle boards, two story dock, fire pit, and foosball table. This place has so much to offer. The owners are extremely communicative and answered my questions within a short time. If you are looking for a place to gather that has a well stocked kitchen (plenty of plates, silverware, and cups even for our large group), lots of amenities included (like kayaks, lily pad, and paddle boards), and is right on the water, look no further. We are already planning our next trip!

Great getaway
Beautiful home at the lake with all the amenities. We turned down other properties because they required that we bring our own kayaks or had way too many rules. The trip to the lake should be stress free so we’re happy we booked this home. The owner, Sharon, was super responsive to our questions. The home is very clean and well cared for. Stepping out to the large lake frontage and sitting in the 2 level dock in the morning with my coffee and enjoying the views was one of my favorite things to do. We’ll be back for sure.

Absolutely wonderful!!!
Just lovely. Owners extremely accommodating. Lots of water toys (kayaks, paddle boards, floats), lifejackets, indoor & outdoor games, ceiling fans in most rooms and tower fans in every room, extensive variety of kitchen appliances and cookware, plenty of bedding and linens. Very comfortable and very nicely decorated. Everyone in the family can't wait to come back!

Lake Joy Was Pure Joy
Our spring break vacation at the Lake House was fabulous. Checkin was easy. The house was very clean. The kitchen was fully stocked. Beds were comfortable. Having 5 bathrooms was perfect for my family. We had 5 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 6-13. There were plenty of life vest for the fun we had on the lake with the kayaks and floats. Overall great home away from home.

My family had a fantastic stay at Lake Joy. The home is so beautifully decorated and is really large. The view was beautiful. There was plenty to do and my family especially loved the kayaks. The upstairs sunroom is an oasis. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

Fantastic lake house for a group!
Amazing time at Lake Joy for a long weekend! We stayed with four families and there was plenty of room for everyone. Great common areas as well as privacy if wanted. The two level dock was so fun and the water toys (kayaks, paddle boards, and Lilly pad) really made our stay! We had a couple of issues with things in the house, but the owner was prompt in addressing them. Thankfully I had read reviews previously about no linens (we have never stayed anywhere that didn’t provide them, but it seems to be typical in this area). We paid extra for linens, which worked out great and brought our own towels from home. We also brought life jackets from home for the kids, but plenty were provided at the house if we hadn’t. We have stayed in some rental homes with not enough dishes or pans/pots, but this house had every pot, pan, and dish we could have ever needed. Very well stocked. The house was clean, provided lots for family members of all ages to do (besides the outdoor activities, there were Foosball and puzzles/games inside), and everyone had a wonderful time. Highly recommend! We would definitely stay here again (and are already talking about another trip)!

Family Time
My husband of 39 years and our three sons and their wife’s, all in their mid 30’s plus our three grandchildren rented this house the last week in July. We are all very athletic and love adventures and playing together. This was the perfect location for kayaking, paddle boarding , fishing and playing cards on the boat house deck. It became a right of passage to jump off the top deck into the lake. Then they took kayaks out to go fishing. They brought back a RIVER MONSTER and the little ones caught a few sunnys. After a day playing in this quiet cove we went to the large kitchen and laughed as we talked about our adventures. Each family took a night to cook so Dad and I never had to. It was great. After dinner the whole family played a game. My Redneck Life was hilarious so was Christmas in July.
This home is equipped with everything a family needs. Lots of water toys, life jackets, grill, games two outside porches plus a huge kitchen w updated appliances. One additional thing worth mentioning is the layout. Each family had their private room with bathroom attached. That is a must for a great vacation. It was a beautiful week for family time.

Great Family Vacation!
Great location on cove, just off Lake Gaston. Property has a lot of kayaks, paddleboards, lily pad and floats which is great for water time! Relaxing dock with good views. Inside is functional with bedroom layouts and living space. Plan to bring your own food, beverages, bedding and any extra kitchen wares. Limited restaurants in the area. House has coffee makers, lots of dishes and cooking wares and two large refrigerators. The homeowner is putting a lot of work in and this is a great place for a relaxing family getaway!
