About this house rental
The Yellow House is a magnificent old family summer home overlooking the Damariscotta Harbor, perfect for a classic Maine vacation or family reunion. We welcome guests at The Yellow House from Memorial Day through September and close the summer home for the winter. At any time during the year, guests will have the privacy of being the only guests at the property.
The property has a unique blend of privacy, natural beauty, and convenience. Enjoy a quiet sunset over the water from the large, West-facing porch, steps away from Damariscotta’s charming downtown.
A massive sloping lawn flanked by mature trees provide cover for noise and sight-lines creating a sense of seclusion, despite the proximity to town. A quick two minute walk down a quiet side-street provides access to Damariscotta’s restaurants, shops, galleries, and bars, a local movie theater, and a lovely bookstore. Pop out for a coffee and pastries in the morning, grab a lobster roll for lunch, enjoy renowned Pemaquid Oysters and a beer at Schooner Landing in the evening, or take a walk after dinner for an ice cream cone.
The house has wonderful character and has been a gathering place for families for decades. There is a large kitchen/pantry (updated appliances) that opens up to a central sitting room perfect for morning coffee, card games, or relaxing throughout the day as people come and go from the home. There is a large dining room that can seat up to 14 people, open to a living room with a big leather sofa and 4 sitting chairs. The waterfront backyard offers an ideal venue for lawn games: whiffle ball, bocce, and croquet.
The area boasts a long list of summer activities, including kayaking and boating in town, shopping in Damariscotta or nearby Boothbay, lakes, beaches, fishing and golf. Take an easy day trip to Freeport, Camden or Monhegan Island.
We hope you enjoy this relaxing retreat as much as we do.

Vintage Farmhouse filled with great vibes and tons of charm. Beautiful lawn leading down to the gorgeous Damariscotta River. Wonderful location; two minute walk to Reny’s and other cute shops…as well as incredible restaurants. The host is delightful and very accommodating. We plan to return next summer for another cherished family vacation.

We enjoyed the time we spent in the yellow house. It is big and roomy with plenty of space for spreading out. The backyard down to the water is huge and tge kids loved spending most of the day out there. The house is well stocked with dishes, cooking supplies, sheets, towels, utensils, cribs, high chairs,… Everything for children of every age. We ate all our meals out on the back porch with a wonderful view of the sun on the water. Additionally, it was a short block to town which made it very easy to walk over and get whatever you needed. We hardly needed a car! This is a great place for families!

Our extended family of 10 stayed for a week. Plenty of sleeping options to choose from. The house is old and shows it's age but I think it is the way it should be. Can't beat the location !!! One block from Main St Damariscotta and right on the river with a great view of the classic Maine boats. Everyone that went LOVED it. Lots of cool towns within an hour of the house.

We stayed in this house with our children and grandchildren and it was perfect! The kitchen space was amazing, there were rooms for the children to play in, for adults to read in, to spend quiet time in… There was even a space for my daughter-in-law to do work during the week. The outside covered deck with lights and fans was spectacular. We ate all our meals out there! And the water! It was absolutely amazing. This house is a real find!

The Yellow House was the perfect location for our family reunion. It allowed us to quickly reach Pemaquid lighthouse, Pemaquid Beach, and Boothbay Harbor. The town of Damarascotta is wonderful as well. The house was clean and well-stocked with all the essentials. Hopefully, we can return.

Held more people than we realized, those who thought they'd be sharing were thrilled to have their own rooms.
Back porch was big enough to have dinner. Great spot to hang out.
Beautiful view, right on the river.
Very close to town center, could walk to shopping and restaurants. Supermarket a very short drive.

We loved to be just a short walk from downtown Damariscotta and a short drive to Booth Bay. Great food and some neat things to do in Damariscotta such as the Oyster Boat ride up the river. Booth Bay is great to stroll around or visit some of the many attractions.
The house was plenty big for our large group. We had a couple issues but Caroline was very responsive and addressed them quickly. I thought the cleaning crew could have done a little better job cleaning the floors but I think Caroline will address this as she did everything else. We would look forward to staying there again.

I've rented a number of vacation homes in Maine, and this one far exceeded our expectations. From its spaciousness and location to the little touches that felt like home, the house is amazing. The kitchen was extraordinarily well supplied, and we spent many happy hours cooking and eating on the wonderful, huge covered porch watching the boats go by. The area, of course, has endless things to do for all ages.
There was a Covid-related issue with the house that delayed our check-in, and we were very impressed with Caroline's response and the ways she found to compensate us for the inconvenience. She was in frequent contact with us until we were settled in. An extraordinary host for an extraordinary house.

We had a perfect week with the extended family (and dogs!) at the Yellow House. A long awaited vacation was rewarded by a house that suited all our needs: space for everyone to gather or find a quiet spot, a well appointed kitchen with plenty of supplies, centrally located and conveniently situated for walks to town or day trip options. We found ourselves gathering in the large back porch daily for meals, reading, game playing and chatting. Lovely views of the river and surprisingly tucked away from town.
Thank you Caroline for being so responsive to our questions and providing us with the wonderful family vacation spot!

We had a great time! The yellow house is a short walk from the town of Damariscotta which has quaint shops and fabulous restaurants. Definitely recommend this for a true Maine vacation experience. The home is also along the Damariscotta River which offers kayaking and a river cruise!

The charm and location of this home within steps of downtown Damariscotta, ME is not to be missed. Everyone enjoyed plenty of fun and activity within walking distance whether they wanted to rent a kayak, shop the boutiques and go to Schooner Landing for live music and a drink. A short drive down the road to Round Pond landed us at Muscungus Bay for lobstahs - BYOB sides and drinks made it affordable as well! The whole crew grabbed huge ice cream cones at the Granite Hall Store also in Round Pond - perfect evening.
We also enjoyed hiking close by the house at Dodge Point. I can't imagine any other property could compete with the size, grandeur and location of this beauty. We had a total of 13-14 family members of all ages and yet it didn't feel crowded. The kitchen was the favored gathering spot for many late late night laughs and my chef hubby loved the big gas stove and large prep area. The large separate pantry helped keep the kitchen somewhat clear when prepping big family meals each night. The beds were all comfy with quality sheets and pillows. The weather didn't entirely cooperate, but the back porch was a perfect haven for card games and hang outs. Fourth of July was magical with the town fireworks literally going off at the base of the back lawn. We loved that this home felt historic in which they've kept the old wallpaper but they've upgraded/painted crown molding and appliances. As you walk down the steep staircase of the front entry or hear the banging of old screen doors, you can't help but wonder about the occupants who might have lived here some 100 years ago. I didn't notice until day 3 that there was a dishwasher in the laundry room - that was a game changer with so many mouths to feed. Very cool place indeed. We celebrated my father's 4th of July 90th birthday and hope to be back again to celebrate future birthdays together.

The Yellow House is located within steps of downtown Damariscotta, but you wouldn’t realize it once you’re inside the property. The huge back porch invites you to sit, read, relax, eat, play games, or just look out at the amazing view. While the house is old and has some quirks it has the space to accommodate a large group of people, allowing everyone to have their own private space. We had an amazing time there and I would definitely recommend it to any family/group that wants a great place to stay in Maine. Five stars all the way!!!

Location is great for this grand old lady! Home is outfitted with everything you need! Caroline was great. Porch overlooking the water is something special. You are in town but it doesn't feel like it. I would come here again.

Great house for our family! Lots of room to enjoy. The kitchen was amazing! Love the charm & also modern amenities. The view was always perfect. The location offered opportunities for short excursions to some beautiful places in the great state of Maine:)

Excellent Location. Right in the heart of town. Many places to walk from in town without having to hop in a car. Back Porch was wonderful with great views of the river. I wish I could rate with a half star as I feel it was more than a 3 but not quite a 4. House is an older home that could benefit from a few upgrades. With the small children in our group there were a few concerns of peeling paint, screens that needed fixing and a some oddly functioning electrical switches. Owners were easy to communicate with and would give property another chance if we were to stay there again assuming the items above were addressed.

We had a wonderful stay at the Yellow House. Our group consisted of three generations. The oldest in our group appreciated having bedrooms and bath on the first floor. The back porch overlooking the water was so peaceful and was a favorite place to gather, but the house offered plenty of space for those seeking quiet. The proximity to town was great to get the paper, a cup of coffee, or ice cream. We hope to go back!
