VILLA SEGALE is an historical stone country house dating from the 11th century, strategically located on the charming hills above Lucca. Its privileged position allows his guests to discover all the most important areas of Tuscany and Liguria (Portofino and Cinque Terre).

*****THE VILLA*****
The villa, with its 450 SQUARE METERS, sleeps up to 12 PEOPLE and was beautifully restored according to the highest standard and comforts.
The ground floor is huge with a large entrance, a sitting room with fireplace, a formal dining room, a large fully fitted kitchen, a small study with a high definition satellite TV (with blu-ray player and a private movie collection), an elegant and cozy air-conditioned bedroom with joinable twin beds (if joined they form a comfortable queen bed), and a full bathroom. Two big panoramic verandas – the first one for dining, equipped with a stone BBQ and a spacious stone table, and the second one for relaxation, equipped with outdoor sofas – complete the ground floor.
On the first floor there are five air-conditioned bedrooms with en suite bathrooms: two of them are queen-bedded and are considered the magnificent master bedrooms; the other three bedrooms come with joinable twin beds (if joined they form a comfortable queen bed). All bedrooms are spacious with tasteful furnishing, ample wardrobe space and have large open windows overlooking the charming valley and enjoying the same spectacular view characteristic of the house.
The furniture dates back to the 19th century and was purchased in antique shops in the area of Tuscany. The wrought-iron comfortable beds were all handmade by one the greatest craftsman in Arezzo. Moreover, the Villa is completely floored with ancient mezzane, while ceilings have been restored with ancient chestnut beams. These are just a few examples, since only ancient original materials were used in the renovation process, in order to completely preserve the authentic Tuscan tradition of this unique magical place.

*****LOCATION AND PANORAMA*****
The location of Villa Segale is magnificent.
Perched among green and forested valleys west of Lucca, SEGALE IS SURROUNDED BY 80 ACRES (32 HECTARES) OF OLIVE GROVES AND VINEYARDS.
Such an uncommon spectacular area allows plenty of space to wander and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the property’s extensive grounds. Hence guests can join the natural unspoilt surroundings and admire the local fauna such as owls, birds, hawks, hedgehogs and fireflies.
The spectacular view across the valley towards the Renaissance monuments of the cities of Lucca and Pisa is to die for. Thanks to its exclusive position, on a typical clear day guests can admire the valley below and the whole landscape up to 40 km around. On the clearest days also the sea of Livorno can be seen.
Photos cannot portray the powerful details of such an exceptional view which is recognized as the most stunning in the whole area of Lucca.

Outstanding villa with breathtaking views, spacious rooms, beautiful pool, and attentive staff. Perfect for relaxing, dining, and exploring nearby towns. Highly recommended for a memorable vacation!

We had a great stay at Villa Segale - we loved being high in the hills above Lucca offering great views at all times; the house was comfortable and cool with great outdoor eating areas. The local Tuscan countryside was also great. Its a must do holiday.

The vista from the villa is breathtaking (as was the drive up the 3.4 km driveway)! The Leaning Tower of Pisa on the right and historic Lucca on the left! Cinque Terre and Florence reasonable drives for day trips. Restaurants, gelato and shopping a short drive away.
The villa was spacious, appropriately rustic for its age and location, well-maintained and with a wonderful pool area. Its 6-bedrooms and 6-bathrooms accommodated our family of 6 adults & 3 younger children very nicely. Its restoration was thoughtful and impressive, you knew the building had class, strength as well as charm.
We watched thunderstorms roll across the countryside, enjoyed caffe on the vine-covered patio, spent hours around the large dinner table, enjoyed sunrises, hiked the vineyard and driveway, spent afternoons at the pool and slept soundly. A wonderful evening dining experience of Bistecca alla Fiorentine, seafood risotto, poached pear, salad, and strawberry tiramisu produced by Lidia was arranged by the manager. Oh, and the wine....
A perfect place and a wonderful manager who was responsive and engaging.

We stayed at the Villa for 2 weeks, there were 10 of us total spanning 3 generations, 6 adults and 4 children. The villa exceeded our expectations in so many ways! The house was beautiful inside and out, the rooms were furnished beautifully. Despite how hot it was outside the air conditioners allowed for a very comfortable nights sleep and the pool was perfect for the heat. We enjoyed meals outside with the beautiful view of the valley and Lucca below. The house manager was so helpful as was the cleaning staff who came throughout our stay. The location is stunning and great for day trips to nearby towns. We could not be more pleased and hope to visit again in coming years! Thank you for our perfect vacation!

We loved our stay at Villa Segale. It’s a beautiful property and we were very well looked after by Marco, Alessio and the amazing housekeepers.
It was the perfect place to relax, sit by the pool, hike and entertain at home. The Villa itself is beautiful and the views are incredible.
Lucca is close by and a good base for restaurants etc and we also easily traveled to Forte dei Marmi, Florence and even Cinque Terra where Alessio organised an amazing boat ride for our family with Matilde Navigazione.
We would definitely return to Villa Segale and highly recommend it. Our whole group of family & friends, including children, loved it.

Stunning historic property. The total Tuscan experience. All serviced by a terrific staff.

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Segale. It was easy to find as you can access the villa's location putting the name into Google Maps. The villa is up on the hill which means that there is a 5 minute drive you must do to access it. We had a commercial van and a mid-sized UV. It was easy to do with the mid-sized UV, and took a little practice with the Commercial van.
The Villa itself is very spacious and is very nice. It has a rustic look to it which we really liked. The view of Lucca was incredible both during the day and at night. We had a part of 10 and had plenty of space. The villa has a pool which we used several times.
We used the chef service that was offered almost every night of our visit. There is a grocery store 10 minutes away that we used for breakfast and lunch the days we were in the villa. Using the chef service allows you to dine at the villa with the incredible views and I would strongly encourage you to take advantage of this if you stay in the villa.
Our only struggle we had that drives the 4 star review is with the internet. The connection really didn't work at all for the entirety of our stay. They sent technicians to the villa at the end of the week but even then it still didn't work right. The landlord made it clear this was abnormal so this on its own wouldn't impact my willingness to stay at the villa.

Family Trip from Brazil: Grandparents. Parents and third generation around 12 and 16.
We are a party of 9 and since 2011. we travel together. Babies and Infants are now teenagers.
The Villa is on a Hill, hidden from everything. The path is not easy, it is’s like going to heaven from ground, then it’s demanding.
When we got there, the magical begun and each day I discovered how astonishingly the Villa Segale is.
We decide not to go out everyday so we did relaxed, cooked and so on. The private Chef went over and I was an memorable experience.
If you want to get together with parents, kids or friends, just go to Tuscany , Italy at Villa Segale . I assure you, it will be an experience completely different like Italian “dolce far niente”.
Remember :
- the road is like going up in a hill.
- there are some stairs , wheels don’t go well at the House
- there is no sound, only sounds from nature
Thank you Marco, the owner. Buona Giornata a Te.

Stunning location
Wonderful house. You must have a four wheel drive vehicle to get there - long steep hill that becomes dirt road with ruts as you near the top. House manager and house cleaner are superb. Fully equipped kitchen.

Fabulous location and views
A wonderful location and views -- as well as a beautiful house with simple but very elegant furnishing. Be aware, though, that the road to this house (with extreme hair-pin bends) is not for the faint of heart!

Heaven on the Hill
If you are looking for an authentic historic Tuscan villa experience to relax and enjoy time with friends and family there is no better stay. Located in a vineyard high on a hill with a simply unmatched view over Lucca and Pisa, Villa Segale is instantly charming. Restored with exceptional quality and care, the well equipped villa has everything you could want. Beside the view the two most outstanding features were the large modern pool and patio dining under vines where our group spend endless hours. In fact we enjoyed this so much we cancelled 2 dinners out to stay and prepare our own meals. Service from Allessio and Mellissa met our every need from arranging tours and restaurants to house chefs prepare excellent meals in. The one challenge is a narrow one lane road to the isolated location which severly tested our driving skills in a long wheel base van.

Quintessential Tuscan Charm, Breathtaking Views, Near Lucca
We couldn’t have had a more lovely two week stay at the Villa Segale. The property is gorgeous, and feels like you’d expect a luxurious, but unpretentious, authentic Tuscan Villa to feel. Marco and his team go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable and are on duty to arrange almost anything…and do so with a smile. The views of Lucca and Pisa from the Villa are simply breathtaking, and are worth the initially nailbiting trip to the top of San Macario in Monte. If staying near Lucca with the privacy of your own mountaintop Villa is your goal, don’t think twice about Villa Segale…you won’t be disappointed.

We had a beautiful week at Villa Segale (two families with in total 10 persons). Its a place in the hills above Lucca within a big vineyard with a spectacular view to Lucca and, a bit farther, Pisa. Although it was a hot week in August, the house remained fairly cool inside and there was always a nice breeze outside at the pool. The owner and the house manager were very welcoming and friendly, the house is extremely charming and well equipped including a spacious and well equipped kitchen which we used regularly for cooking our own meals with fresh products from the region. It is also a perfect base for day or half-day trips to Lucca, Pisa or Florence.

A Tuscan Treasure
Way up on a mountain top right outside of Lucca with breathtaking views of Lucca and Pisa you will find Villa Segale. When you drive up the beautiful and winding road you will encounter beautiful vineyards and acres of olive trees. Although the road to the top is somewhat challenging it is worth every moment when you arrive at this beautiful historic Tuscan villa.
The accommodations were perfect for a party of twelve. Each couple had their own spacious bedroom and bath and shared a lovely living and dining room and a magnificent Tuscan kitchen and two outdoor verandas where we all enjoyed dining and watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Marco, the owner and Michela, the property manager provided excellent customer service. Any questions we had were dealt with quickly and professionally.
On three occasions we hired a local chef, Antonella and her assistant, Lucretia. It was such a pleasure to stay at the villa and enjoy their local Tuscan cuisine. They were delightful to work with and we enjoyed their warm personalities and excellent culinary skills.
This was truly a vacation of a lifetime which surpassed anything we could have hoped for.

Incredible view, tranquil
The villa is one of a kind. Peaceful and quiet. The panoramic views across Lucca and the surrounding hills is incredible. The owner and his staff are second to none. There is literally nothing they won’t do for you; from making suggestions, fixing issues without delay, booking trips on your behalf, and even personally sending forgotten items to you after you have arrived back home! There is SO much to do in the area, but quiet time around the pool (which is HUGE) is also wonderful . The villa is piece of Tuscan history and you really feel part of the culture when staying there. Cinque Terre boat trip is a ‘must’ - we went with ‘Del Mare’, booked by Michela. Elisabetta cooked us the most amazing Tuscan meal one night in the villa. All bought, prepared and cleared up for us. Florence is a great day out by train. If you’re thinking about booking Villa Segale, don’t hesitate, just book it!

Amazing
Everything was made incredibly easy for us not only in terms of booking our stay but also during our time at the villa. Both the manager and the owner were so approachable and friendly. Michela helped us arrange babysitters and a chef as well as sending us a video of the bedroom layout so we could determine where best to put the babies to sleep. The villa itself was perfect. It managed to retain its old world charm whilst still having all the modern conveniences one would want. Perfect holiday for families with babies and young children who don’t necessarily want to venture out everyday but also perfectly located for trips to Luca and Pisa.

Fabulous stay!
We had an absolutely fabulous stay from start to finish. The villa is in a beautiful spot and is very well equipped. The beds and linens (which are linen) are the most comfortable we've ever had in a home rental. The staff, from owner Marco through the caretakers and cooks Elisabettand and Michela are truly wonderful as well.

Truly amazing!
My family of 5 adults and 5 children (ages 9-3) spent a most amazing and wonderful week at this villa. The view was truly spectacular and the villa itself was open and relaxing for all of us. The owner, manager and housekeeper were all so very helpful and made our stay memorable. We had three chefs cook dinners for us and each was incredible. We took day trips to Florence, Pinocchio Park, and Cinque Terre and of course the lovely city of Lucca. This was a magical week for our family with memories we will always treasure. i would highly recommend this villa to others. It was 5+ stars on every scale!

Great stay at Villa Segale
The Villa is a home away from home and the view is spectacular. I coordinated the vacation for our group of 10 and we didn’t have a single complaint during our 2 week stay. The owner and host were both very accommodating and provided us with detailed information on things to do and places to go. If you are considering a vacation in the Tuscany region I would highly recommend this Villa. I also want to say thank you to Mrs. Alessandra who provided our group with a very informative cooking lesson and delicious meal. You will not go wrong booking this Villa.

Beautiful villa on the hills overlooking Lucca
Everyone we encountered during our stay was delightful and accommodating from the owner of the villa to the house manager to the cooks we hired. The villa is beautifully appointed and comfortable, and the surrounding area is breathtaking. We had dinner at the villa several nights to avoid the 10-15 minute drive up the narrow road in the dark, but the cooks prepared amazing dinners and we were also able to stock our kitchen from the nearby Coop grocery store. Loved it!

Family celebration!
What an amazing place! We have just enjoyed a wonderful week in the tranquil setting of Villa Segale, together with our son and daughter and 4 of their young children, ranging in age from from 4 years to 10. A fabulous week, mostly spent by or in the pool, with a visit to Florence and Pisa also thrown in. A lovely celebratory ( birthday for me! ) meal one evening in Lucca was perfect and was based on a suggestion in the house information file (Trattoria Canuleia in the City Walls) . Fabulous food and service and a great venue for family meals. Villa Segale is in a wonderful location and has been tastefully restored and modernised without compromising its history as a family house of many many years - it has a really peaceful and welcoming feel about it.

We had 2 weeks at villa Segale from mid July to early August, lovely location, great rooms, lovely swimming pool. We were very well looked after by the house keeper Michela and Elisabetta the cleaner. We made great use also of the table tennis table, booked one of the visiting cooks for a cooking lesson, visited one of the recommended wineries (Tenuta Maria Teresa - absolutely fantastic) and visited Lucca several times. There were 8 of us and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Be aware that it is very hot at this time of year and small biting flies can be a nuisance especially around the pool though this is unavoidable. Very recommended.

Wonderful!!!!
The home and location was everything you could want for an Italian holiday.
The home was enchanting and meticulously maintained. We had family rolling in and out throughout the weeks we were there and it had ample space inside and out to gather,
relax and eat. Each bedroom had it's own bath and was a very nice size.
The view is amazing from both the front porch, veranda and pool. You're set above the vinyards there and looking down upon Pisa and Lucca. It was convenient to many of the things you would want to do during your visit; Florence, Pisa, Cinque Tere, wine tasting, even Rome (but that is a long, long day).
The Owner Marco and House Manager Michela were wonderful, if you needed assistance they were very responsive and helpful. There's a house book that has many wonderful tips on where to eat, shop and go but if you needed help with anything she was certainly a great resource.
I would definitely recommend the personal chef Antonella. We had her come in 3 times during our visit and the food was the best we had in Italy. A magical evening for you and your guests!
To sum it all up.......just Wonderful. If I go back to that area again I would certainly stay there again because I couldn't imagine any better .

Beautiful, well appointed and fun.
The first night, we had a great meal with Lucia and Antonella, another night, a fabulous meal at Ristorante Lombardo and the last, we had a wonderful lesson on the cooking of Tuscany with Allesandra. She and her friend gave our family much information, joy and delicious food. The rooms and grounds are aesthetically pleasing and the view is breathtaking. Michaela, the property manager was very helpful. We loved cooking, swimming and living in the beautiful villa and visiting Lucca and surrounding areas. We all agreed that we are proud to have Italian roots and that the Italian people are the best.
Grazie mille

A fantastic experience !!!
Our stay was spectacular!! The house was so beautiful with amazing views. Elisabetta cooked us delicious meals that were better than the restaurants. Marco and his family treated us like family. It was truly an amazing experience for my wife and I, it was sad to leave. The location of the house is perfect to visit so many different places in Tuscany.
You will not be disappointed, highly recommended!!

Vacation of a Lifetime!!
This villa was beyond all of our expectations. As beautiful as the pictures are they cannot capture the true beauty of the villa and its surroundings. In addition, the owner, Marco, and his staff are simply amazing and so accommodating. There were 6 of us staying here and we were all so impressed with every single aspect and attention to detail. We will definitely come back in the near future and we highly recommend this location.

Villa Segale is heaven on earth!!!
Villa Segale took our breath away...we had the most incredible vacation at this beautiful property!!! Everything was perfection from start to finish- the villa was spacious and beautiful but still comfortable. The views were out of this world- truly breathtaking!!! We had more than enough room for two families and it was so nice to have so many ensuite bathrooms. Marco and the house manager, Michela were incredibly friendly and helpful with planning excursions, car rental and meals out and more... Elisabetta, the housekeeper and cook, was so kind and helpful too- she kept the house tidy and cooked us delicious authentic Italian meals. Eating meals on the patio with a view of Lucca was an experience I will never forget!!! The pool was amazing too- perfect for a dip after a long day of sightseeing. This was truly the most perfect vacation I could have ever asked for and we will definitely return to Villa Segale again!!!!

Stunning top notch
We just finished 2 weeks at this perfect villa. The villa is meticulously restored using ancient materials and is set on 60 acres of wild flowers, olive groves, and vineyards at the top of a mountain. The views are amazing. Pour some vino, make a cheese plate and sit out by the pool and take it all in while the Tuscan sun is setting. As hard as it is to leave the villa it's in a perfect spot for day trips. Tons of small midievil towns are nearby to explore, the coast, and the mountains. 15 min away is the beautiful town of Lucca which we loved but we also went to Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terra, Tollaro, Viareggio, Pistoia, Barga, and MonteCarlo. Wineries are also nearby to tour. The house caretaker Michela is a friendly text away for any restaurant or town recommendations you need. And If you just want to stay but not cook Elizabeth will cook an excellent dinner at an affordable rate. We had 8 people, 4 adults and 4 kids and had more than enough room. A wonderful time was had by all, it was certainly hard to leave this beautiful place. I highly recommend this villa for the perfect Tuscany vacation.

Villa and Views were Fantastic!
We rented Villa Segale for a week at the end of June and we wish we could have stayed longer.
The villa has been restored to have the Tuscan charm and rustic feel yet has modern conveniences. There is plenty of space to spread out or to gather together. The kitchen is functional and equipped with everything you could need. Just off the kitchen is a gorgeous outdoor terrace with a table and outdoor grill/oven. Any dinners we ate at the villa were spent on this terrace. The bedrooms were spacious, had their own large bathrooms and were equipped with individual remote controlled air conditioners. We all felt extremely comfortable and we had a great deal of privacy.
The most noteworthy feature of the villa is the setting on top of the mountain. As mentioned in other reviews, the drive up is a little daunting at first (the road is narrow and very curvy) but wow – is it worth it. The front of the villa faces out to overlook the valley below and the views are breathtaking. Immediately in front are the grape vines and olive grove that are part of the property and then beyond are the towns below including Lucca. Whether we were looking out our bedroom windows, relaxing on the front porch or by the pool or on the outdoor dining terrace, we were overcome with the beauty of the property and views. Even more beautiful than the pictures. You just can’t get enough of it!
The villa is a little remote but is very well situated to get to all the surrounding areas. We went to Lucca center city often, Pisa, Florence, had a tour of Montecarlo and a winery, spent an entire day in Cinque Terre, visited many nearby walled hill towns, including Barga. We allowed ourselves time to relax at the villa and enjoy the pool as well.
I can’t say enough about the owner, Marco, who responded to all our questions very quickly, provided us with so much useful information including recommendations. Marco was gracious and attentive and was key to our enjoying our stay. Michela, the house manager provided us with all the practical details of the house, directions, helped with restaurant reservations, etc. Elisabetta came three days during our stay to clean the villa and we also arranged for her to cook us a local authentic dinner one evening which I highly recommend. It was one of the highlights of our trip!
Overall, we were thrilled with Villa Segale and the experience of renting from and working with Marco. I highly recommend it.

A truly special and stunning villa
We were amazed at the beauty and tranquility of Villa Segale. We enjoyed 5 days there with our three boys and have never been more relaxed. The views are better than any postcard and the villa is exceptionally well appointed and equipped. We had a cook come in one evening to prepare a gorgeous dinner of fresh Tuscan cuisine. Both the owner Marco and the manager Michela were very responsive for anything we needed. We will be back!

Truly a special place
We were a party of 10 (7 adults and 3 teenagers.) The moment we walked into Villa Segale we were overwhelmed by it's beauty. Everything about the villa was perfect: the location, the bedrooms with the lovely bathrooms, the well stocked kitchen, the large dining room, the lovely outdoor spaces...really I could go on and on...
All of my communications with Marco were so easy and he was so helpful! Michela greeted us at the villa with a smile. She was very helpful and so nice! Elisabetta cleaned and cared for the villa while we were there and we were lucky enough to have her prepare a meal for us-it was delicious and beautifully presented.
Our eight days flew by and we all want to return someday. I truly hope that someday is soon..I think I left part of my heart at Villa Segale.

Villa Segale was everything we had hoped for!
The owners of Villa Segale manage to make guests feel welcome and at home in this tastefully furnished and incredibly beautiful house. Marco was most kind in patiently answering all our questions and providing very useful recommendations on wining and dining and lots more.
Altogether we had a wonderful time there!

You will fall in love with this villa!!
We have just returned home from Italy. We are a family of 8, 7 adults and 1 baby. This villa and the people associated with it, is the epitome of a beautiful, relaxing vacation. The pictures are beautiful, but when you are there, it is breathtaking.
From the moment you are in communication with Marco regarding the booking of this villa, you know you are in capable hands. Everything will go smoothly, because Marco and Michela ( manager) will ensure that it will. I can not say enough kind things regarding Michela. She is sweet, personable and helpful. She goes above and beyond in role as a manager of this villa.
And there is Elisabetta and her daughter Andrea. Elisabetta is the housekeeper and chef if you desire to have a Tuscan meal cooked for you and served on the veranda by sweet Andrea. And you should, because having a meal cooked by Elisabetta is equivalent to icing on your favourite cake. Elisabetta is passionate about everything she does. She works very hard in maintaining the cleaniness of the villa. We enjoyed our many conversations with Elisabetta while she cleaned.
Then there is the villa with the panoramic view that is just breathtaking!! You, literally, cannot take your eyes from the view!! You are perched on a mountain overlooking Lucca and Pisa.
The villa is a 11th century stone home with modern conveniences. Beautiful. Spacious. Clean. The verandas with grapevines canopying above you, as you read, eat or drink reminds you that you are in a very special place. The cool refreshing pool. Trails behind the villa and the road down to the ancient church. Olive groves and vineyards surround the villa and will excite the explorer in you. You will not be bored!!
In fact, it will be hard to leave this idyllic spot.
Our family has travelled extensively, but we all agree this is the one we hope to return to.
