We came with 2 our children and spouses and 2 kids each. We had a bit of a problem finding the cabin, because the GPS directions weren't totally accurate plus the properties in this development are NOT marked plainly. The cabin was spacious and well-laid out, very comfortable for the 10 of us. The weather in Feb is of course very cold, and we had some problems getting to a happy medium with the heat during sleeping hours - making the main floor folks comfortable meant roasting those in the loft. Would have appreciated a gas grill with a larger grill surface; we didn't care to mess with charcoal plus the grill itself needed cleaning badly. We cooked our burgers in the oven. We had two full days; the first was too cold (hi 29 w/25mph winds) to venture out much, although we did a bit. We had some tubing time at Hawks Nest on Sunday, fun for all - even PopPop and Nana who hung around the coffee shop and viewing balcony! This was only half of our kids and grandkids, but it's important to us to get together as a family, and the Martin Nest was great for that! Recommend.

We enjoyed our stay. We were visiting the area to go snow tubing at Hawks Nest. The cabin was very close and it took 8 minutes to get there. The cabin has a fun game room with pool and bunk beds for kids. I also liked how the main floor bedroom had a door separating it from the kitchen so you have more privacy. This is a great cabin if you are traveling with kids. There is a creek at the edge of the property the kids all enjoyed playing in.

We loved our stay here! It had everything we needed and wanted! It was very clean and cozy. We had 3 young children with us and they loved playing downstairs. The creek was a blast and so was walking around and visiting the 2 ponds. We went in the fall so the leaves made everything even more beautiful! We will definitely be staying here in the future!

This is a very cozy and homey cabin. They recently added a HVAC so we had air conditioning which was great as it was warm during our stay. Plenty of beds having a bathroom on every floor was great. We had teenagers with us so they really loved having an entire floor to themselves with the bunk beds and pool table. It was decorated so homey and we enjoyed looking at the pictures of the cabin being built. They have a lot of kitchen dishes and some pots and pans. If you plan on making big meals you may want to bring some of your own. I brought a electric skillet and crockpot because I knew the type of meals I was going to prepare. However, they did have pots and frying pans that I used. If you use a coffee maker that uses cups bring your own they only have a regular coffee pot. They left plenty of toilet paper which was nice. There was some paper towel left but if you are staying for an extended period you may want to bring some. A very nice suprise was that they had little makeup remover packets in the bathrooms and little soaps. Plenty of extra blankets and towels. Overall just a great cabin that we would rent again. The only negative was where the firepit was located. It was a very very steep way down and it we did not feel safe going down to it. My husband did go down and did not want anyone to go down and didn't want to drive down as it was so steep. I would highly recommend unless the firepit is important to you. Thank you to the owners for making it so nice

Needs Updating/Repairs
We walked into a freezing house with no heat running, we were not told we would need wood to keep stove going to stay warm. Small wall heater does virtually nothing to keep the first floor warm. Our cost for wood was $180 over the 5 days to keep our family warm. Called rental company who told us to go to the gas station for wood. Loft bedroom had wall unit but did not keep us warm unless we got up during the night to keep the stove lit. This was not disclosed and we had our coats on until bedtime which was cold. Stove was very diffucult to light due to a vent issue, which filled the first floor with smoke until my son goggled it and learned he had to manually slide the broken vent which covered him with soot as the stove hasn't been maintained/cleaned but at least we had heat on the second day.
We found a broken chair turned upside down in the living room, mouse droppings in the first floor tub, cobwebs on the lights over the table and in general dirty kitchen utensils. Thought they only had 3 cups until we opened the dishwasher and found it full, we had to empty that. Pots should be replaced, if you plan on cooking bring your own I'm glad we did, metal cowboy style dishes are rusty and should also be replaced, found set of dishes in a cabinet but they were filty so we stuck with paper plates. Fan in downstairs pool room was literally coated in dust and filth which we cleaned before the kids went to bed. Metal twin bed downstairs not only squeaks horribly when you move but the springs stick you in the back. My grandson put his mattress on the floor to sleep it was so bad.
In general this is a really nice cabin that truly needs cleaning (which I blame Carolina Cabin Rentals for) and updating. As a retired Property Manager I would never allow one of my properties to be rented in this condition. My daughter in law owns a cleaning business and was shocked at the dirt we had to clean. Again per their "rental agreement, 1 towel per person (even cheap hotels give you 2) so we did laundry daily in a washing machine that you have to watch (per note on the wall) as it had issues. When I spoke to the rental company they referred me to my rental agreement instead of helping. Again, the owners need to be made aware that they're property isn't being maintained and cleaned properly. I'd like to say we're going back but would never again rent a property being maintained by Carolina Cabin Rentals.

We love a cabin with a creek!
Accomodating cabin with a creek! My boys are 8 & 10....a creek is always a must have! The cabin was the right size for thus trip with the grandparents. Lovely neighborhood. Convenient to everything we wanted to do....Mast General Store, Wilderness Alpine Coaster, Blowing Rock, GF winery, gold mining, Boone....bringing our 4 legged family along is always a plus! Thank you for sharing your home!

Great Cabin
Our stay at Martin’s Nest was very enjoyable. The cabin was very clean and had plenty of towels and ample toiletries to start the vacation. There was soap for all bathroom sinks and travel sized shampoo with at least two rolls of toilet paper per bathroom; kitchen soap, sponge, and dishwasher detergent; and a set of towels per sleep occupancy. The creek and fire pit was a steep walk down a separate drive from the house, but directly below the cabin as described. We used the grill and enjoyed ample time on the porch. We’ve never stayed in Seven Devils while visiting the highlands area, and it was centrally located to all the areas of interest we had!

Perfect for multiple families
The cabin is set up for multiple families with lots of private space. Basement space with bunks is nice. We enjoyed the pool table!
The cabin is lacking in some areas. While clean, there was a mice problem in the main floor bathroom. Mouse feces in the tub every morning...yuck! You could also hear them in the walls at night...also yuck! We ate in often and the kitchen is lacking in pots/pans and eating utensils. If you have a large group you won’t have enough forks to eat with. We had to purchase a skillet while there to cook in. This would be a very nice cabin if these issues are adddressed.

Mountain Getaway
We had a wonderful time on our trip! We wanted to spend quality time with our family and dear friends amongst the great offerings of the outdoors! The weather was chilly at the beginning of our trip, but by mid week, the weather was perfect. The layout of our house was perfect for our group. The great room was very comfortable even though it took us a few tries to figure out the wall heater unit. We were able to light up a fire in the fireplace. The 3 bathrooms for our group worked out great- very convenient. The kids loved the game room & being able to just relax from the everyday daily school routine. We loved the house location- nice walks in the morning to sit by the lake. We probably would have preferred a house right on the lake, but we will see next time we visit. We wouldn’t mind staying here again.

The code for the key lock was wrong. Never got a response upon inquiry. Mouse droppings in main shower. Great room TV was miniscule. Pool table old and shoddy. Kitchen was poorly stocked. Frying pans were ancient and unable to use with out food sticking and almost impossible to clean. Downstairs bunks were hard as rocks, with no top sheets. TV in main room was miniscule for such a large pretty room. There wasn't any hot water in sink on main level. Called regarding the heat. Nice lady tried to help but she was not familiar with that kind of heat, neither were we. BUT we figured it out. Where was the mentioned "Starter" pack? it must had had guest soaps for the bathrooms but we never saw it. We had to go & purchase more toilet paper & paper towels due to the fact there was not enough to last 5 days.Fireplace window hadn't been cleaned probable never and there was lots of ashes in fire box. We cleaned it out to use but left our ashes for the next guest. We noticed that other guests that signed the guest book had similar issues. Apparently the guests are the only ones that reads the guest book.We will not be back & will not recommend it to our friends on social media.

Cozy but needs updates
Our family of 11 stayed at Martins Nest Cabin for the long weekend of Feb 11th-14th. It was hard to find the cabin at night bc the GPS took us to the top end of the home, but the address did not match and at night with fog it was hard to locate.. I called NC cabin rentals & was on hold for over 10 minutes without a response until we finally had someone walk down to see if we were close to the cabin to park. The home had that cozy cabin feel and was spacious for all. We did feel many essential things a cabin should have were missing or needed to be updated. Luckily we travel often & have what is needed handy; however when you rent out a home fully furnished the essentials should be there. First the kitchen stove had a broken know so that side was not usable & was placed on top of the stove without a note that it was broken. No dish soap & hand soap in bathrooms, just dishwasher pods, but we clean & each as we go. Another thing was the toilet paper was only about a fourth left & no replacement rolls for 3 bathrooms & 11 people. Coffee pot was stained so it did not give that clean feel. Pots to cook were stained & not cleaned thoroughly, some were iron & were rusty as well as the dinnerware was chipped & rusty bc of the ceramic material it's made. The extra seats around the house to accommodate in the dinning table are antique so they are not very sturdy to sit on had to have the smaller people sit on the for dinner. The beds are very squeaky when you sit or lay & the little extra loft bed should not be considered for a person. Not even a toddler can sleep there, it's like a bench & very unstable. The metal bunkbed mattresses you can feel the bed poles & wooden board. Not comfortable at all for any size child or teen. The house overall is nice but definetely needs to be updated & get some more TLC. We have rented many homes for stays & expected more from what we saw in the pictures. If these suggestions were taken into consideration it would be great for others to enjoy their stress-free.

Winter wonderland
This is a great cabin to stay. Love that the drive way was going down but not a bad slope. We backed in with 4 wheel drive truck to make it easier to drive out. Cabin had plenty of room. The view was wonderful especially with all the snow.

Cabin is great but much farther from ski resorts than listing says
The cabin is a delightful home, though soap and more than 3 rolls of toilet paper would have been helpful for 8 people. If there is snow, be warned that the road to the main road is very difficult to maneuver. My 4 wheel drive Honda Pilot could not make it and we also watched three other vehicles go into the same ditch. After this 1/2 day delay on one of our two ski days, we headed off to Beech Mountain, which (according to the listing) was 5.3 miles away. 100% FALSE!!! Beech Ski resort is 16 miles away and takes a little over 1/2 hour to reach. I did tell management they needed to change this information on the listing but I was told according to latitude and longitude, the information provided was accurate. NOT SO, unless of course, you have wings and can fly. When I book a ski home and it says 5.3 miles away, that's what I expect, not 13!

Thanksgiving Retreat
East met west, as we met our grown children and their families for Thanksgiving 2020. The three levels are great for three families, giving each an area of their own. The fire pit area and creek is fantastic, the kids had a ball playing, roasting marshmallows, and climbing through the trees. Beautiful neighborhood and seemed close to the few outdoor activities we were looking to experience. One point of clarification, the third queen sized bed is not in the lower level bedroom, as I thought, but is the lower bunk in the rec room.

Mountain Escape
Martin’s nest was a great property for friends to have a small gathering for a birthday. The cabin was clean, comfortable and allowed us to visit and celebrate. We had pans/dishes to cook and the big dining table was perfect for sharing meals and playing games. The fire pit allowed us to enjoy the outdoors after dark without getting too chilly. The neighborhood lake is a quiet and peaceful place within a short walk. For a hike that offered more exercise , we visited nearby Otter Falls. There is a Lowe’s grocery store that made grocery quick and easy.

4 Stars
I gave it a 4 star because we couldn't figure out how to use the air conditioners so it was kind of hot in all the bedrooms except the livingroom. That one worked pretty good. The tv in the down stairs game room didnt work either. Really didnt matter until night time when the kids were ready to watch it. Other then that it was perfect and i would love to go back.

Very dark
Overall a decent property, but so hidden amongst the trees that it felt a little too dark and depressing.
We had a hard time finding the house - the house number was pretty well hidden, but we were also confused because there was a car (turned out to be the cleaners) parked in the driveway when we arrived at 5:45. We had been told the cleaners were running behind - but were told that they would be done by 5.
When we got there, some of the comforters on the bed were still wet. I appreciated that they actually washed the comforters - but my daughter really didn’t enjoy snuggling into bed only to discover that it was damp.
The basement floor was also filthy. My kids’ feet were black when they were about to hop into bed - the floor needed a good swiffer cleaning. And once my boys got into the bunk beds, there were big moans because those were the MOST uncomfortable beds ever. Maybe investing in at least slightly more comfortable mattresses would help. They literally felt like they were sleeping on 2x4’s. Oh, and the flat sheets weren’t on the bunk beds...so that delayed bedtime a little.
The overall location is great. Convenient to Grandfather, Boone, Blowing Rock, Valle Crucis. The community is cute - but again, this house is so surrounded by heavy trees that it was difficult to enjoy the scenery or sunlight.
The kitchen was stocked somewhat decently. Like most places, the knives were useless - but that’s true of any rental. I was a little annoyed that most of the plates and dishes were metal - which made using the microwave more of a challenge. Given the pandemic, we used the kitchen much more than we usually do...Oh, and a few wine glasses would be nice 😳.
I know that we were supposed to bring our own paper supplies - but really did not appreciate that when we got there there was only about 1/2 roll of TP per bathroom. Most places in the past have at least had a full roll of TP. And maybe some soap/toiletry supplies.
Maintenance - the cabinet door to the right of the sink was broken and almost broke my mom’s toe! Also, there were nails sticking out of the stairs leading to the basement - ouch.
We come to the NC mountains almost every year. This has probably been our least favorite house so far (sorry!). I will say, though, that there was plenty of space for the 7 of us (4 adults, 3 kids) and 2 dogs. It just needed a little tune up and maybe some tree trimming.
