Rien.

Fantastic location. Attentive staff team. Exceptional cleanliness with high quality linens, changed daily. Fantastic breakfast buffet with individual Gluten Free pastry and bread basket. Great little outside bar by the pool in the afternoon with reasonably priced drinks including cocktails. Plenty of sun beds with umbrellas by pool, on lawn and on sea view terrace. A really, really great hotel with excellent facilities and services, peaceful, calm and quiet. Don’t hesitate to book.
Loved everything, far surpassed my expectations! It’s as good as it looks in the photos!

Ontzettend vriendelijk personeel,
heerlijk zwembad, genoeg ligbedden incl handdoekenservice, prachtige ligging met uitzicht op zee
Goed ontbijt, alles aanwezig.

Great breakfasts, the pool area better than I expected, the surrounding area was magical and had fantastic views, cleaning personel was very good and efficient - from the whole hotel staff they did they job best.
I was supposed to get a 52 m2 room which I paid for - I got a 45 m2. I complained about it at the reception and the ladies explained that there must have been a mistake on booking.com and that this isnt their fault. After some arguing from my side, they offered me a "voucher" on a barbeque for free as a form of compensastion. When we got to the barbeque it turned out that there were many other people with "vouchers" for the barbeque. Also the food was mediocre at best which contributed further to our dissappointment. This "compensation" should be unacceptable - I will seriously consider issuing an official complaint. Additionally the hotel is outdated and desperately needs to be renovated. Very little storage spaces in rooms - it lacks additional drawers and shelves, impractical solutions. Little space in kitchen - old microwave and fridge, I felt like I went back in time to the 90s. Horrible furniture except chairs - these were nice and comfortable. The hotel charges 5 euro per hour of billiards vbut judging by the quality of the pool table accesories they shouldnt charge anything at all. One billiard cue stick was heavility damaged and unusable. 3,4 euro for a small glass of coke in the pool area - outrageos.

Hotel has a good location, just 15min walk from Formosa beach, next to big shopping mall with supermarket, pharmacy and whatever you need. You have quite a few restaurants around it as well. In case you want to go to Funchal, bus stop is in front of hotel and for just 1.95eur you will be downtown in 15min. Cab will charge you 10+.
Room was clean, specious and had a pool and ocean view (C block), which is nice and quite convenient. If you prefer being by the pool instead of going to the beach, you’ll easily find free sunbeds during the day, so no need to get up early and book it. Staff is helpful and friendly, so no complaints regarding service.
The only thing that was quite underwhelming was breakfast buffet. In terms of fresh products, you won’t find anything other than cucumbers, carrots, lettuce and green tomatoes… and some chopped fruit. It’s quite sad given the fact that Madeira has 8 or 9 different types of avocados alone and lots of different fruit. Coffee is terrible, so better order it in the bar.

The Golden Residence Hotel is a beautiful hotel with positive and inviting energy. My family and I stayed in a big, spacious, and comfortable apartment room in B block. We especially utilised the additional kitchenette. The bathroom was perfect for a big family. In the evening, we especially appreciated the views from our balcony. The breakfast was delicious and varied. My 9-year-old son especially appreciated the freshly prepared pancakes in the mornings. Overall, breakfast is suitable for a family with children. The receptionists were friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. If we had any questions, the kitchen staff were extremely helpful. The outdoor and indoor swimming pools were fantastic. The additional ramp in the outdoor pool is especially helpful to individuals with mobility difficulties.
Cons
- The lifts would get very busy.
- Getting from each block could cause confusion.

Im a bit upset when i saw our room, yeah its big but we are just couple, they gave us a family room and sad to say its not the room that i paid, I get a doubleroom with Sea View but suddenly they put us in mountainview, they change the room but still not the one i expected coz i paid more for the view but we cannot get that view and they didnt discount our stay..Hopefully next time we get what we deserved, but over all we have a lovely stay..Thank you!!

We stayed in a small one bedroom apartment with a large bathroom. Don’t know if this room was particularly for people requiring assistance or all the apartments like it are the same. But lots of room to manoeuvre a wheelchair.
There was a nice balcony and depending which side of the hotel you stayed on depended when you got the sun.
The room was spotless.
Lots of choice for breakfast.
The room was probably a little more basic than I was expecting but certainly nothing to complain about.
You had to choose a time to go to breakfast as the hotel was full.
We elected for opening time at 0730. Very busy with groups. Not sure how busy it was later in the day.
We arrived on. Saturday and were departing 2 nights later on Monday. We enjoyed the peace of the area until Monday morning when all the local building work got going. Maybe the hotel should have warned us?

Breakfast was okay - should of had more egg varietes but overall okay. Good location - can get to central fairly easily and lots of restaurants nearby to walk to. Great views for sunset and lovely pool. Excellent cocktails.
The facilities were too spread out. Bar / restaurant was in another building which was annoying.
More egg options at breakfast

Our apartment in Building 'B' was very large - separate lounge and kitchen area made for easy living. Bus number 2 goes from just outside the hotel into Funchal and costs about £1.75 - easy walk to the Forum for shopping at Pingo Dolce supermarket and many other outlets. All round very good value

The location is great. Close enough to Funchal city centre (10 minutes by taxi or bus), lovely garden and great beach and rooftop sunset views. Small but good breakfast, good selection of hot and cold options. The pre-arranged airport taxi transfer worked well. Ocean views from the balcony.
When we arrived, our room was very hot. We were told the aircon is being fixed. During our 7 day stay, the story changed to, the aircon is being replaced. Reception staff did not make us aware about repair work during Check-in, we had to find out ourselves. The vent system above the cooker didn't work either, the story here, it only works from 9:30am to 9:30pm. We tried it several times during this time, without success. Breakfast times until 10:00 are very busy, pick the last 30 minutes for some less busy times.

It is fantastic value for money. The rooms are big and spacious, like small flats. They have great balconies and a small kitchen that is more than enough for a holiday. The whole space is kept impeccably clean and is exactly as described. The hotel and its location are not very picturesque, but is it functional, nice and modern, quiet and close to some nice cafes and restaurants that are not touristy at all - we actually preferred it to a more central location. Regardless, you are very close to central Funchal - its a 5/10 minute drive or you can even pleasantly walk there in about 30-45m.
The breakfast is good value for money but it does feel very crowded, as the meal room is always full, and therefore not particularly relaxing. It does help when the weather is nice (which is most days in Madeira) and you can sit outside. They charged us 5 euros to use an ironing board which feels a bit silly. But this is nitpicking - for the price, this is a great hotel. We would stay again.

The hotel was very comfortable and beautiful.
The location is amazing. The view is stunning.
Breakfast was delicious and staff very very friendly.
The room was spacious and tidy. We loved bathroom. The daily cleaning was up to great standards.
We also loved that the bus was close and we could go to Funchal any time we wanted.
Nothing. All was perfect

Excellent breakfast, a bit crowded, but rather ok. The indoor swimming pool is a must, as well as a room with an ocean view and a kitchen.
Services for kids other than the indoor pool were a bit lacking. The hotel could invest in a playroom or playground as well as a child programme.
