Nothing much, it was dated and needed a good clean. The greatest disappointment were the onsen which were sub standard and not resembling the picture. I didn’t get the meals and I had brought some food as there were no food shop open in the village. It was empty and very quiet so at least I had a good sleep. Staff was lovely.
Pretty much everything, it was cheap and not worth it.

The hotel is easily accessible (few minutes walk from bus terminal with buses to Takayama and Shinjuku); wifi connection is good. Staff is reasonably fluent in English. The outdoor onsen is great with view (especially good in winter when the mountain is covered in snow).
There is only one lift in the building so difficult to access if large tour group arrive and everyone need to reach their room. The fixture is aging

The room and futon were not as comfortable as some other ryokans I stayed in during my other trips to Japan. But it was alright. It was clean and comfortable enough. The location was good. It was in the middle of a tiny village so I could go out and had some dining outside the hotels and there was a local minimart or souvenir shops too.
The staff doesn't speak English at all. So it has been a burden with communication. There was a mistake which I believe the mistake by Booking.com that caused some unpleasant experiences with my arranged dinner at the hotel. II think Booking.com is responsible and you should be less robotic and add more human touch to your system.

A good comfortable ryokan. The highlight were the onsen, in a beautiful indoor/outdoor setting.
The overall atmosphere was quiet and not very personal.
Food was OK.

All staffs are very friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast are well prepared and delicious.
The room is not that clean. Some dusts are visible. Check-out late incurs some fees.

Walking distance to Kamikochi bus station.
A bit old room, Dinner & BF is under expectation. Large Onsen but a lot of dust from moss.

The public onen is one of the nicest I experience in a hotel in japan. The room are very nice!
2 frustrating points:
1/ You have free coffee in the morning for everyone except : The people that booked the room on booking.com ... so no free coffee. quite frustrating
2/ The private onsen is very good but quite expensive 2,200JPY for 50 minutes only. The main reason is that there is a private small sauna inside. But they don't turn in on if you don't ask. You need to ask to turn it on way in advance because it takes almost one hour to be hot.

The onsen was huge
Depending on which floor or room you stayed it felt a bit outdated

Onsen, great traditional hotel dinner/breakfast, good skiing

they have (rotenburo) onsen outside with snow.. the food is worth the try. very very good. Near the ski area and bus terminal, gift shop and post office. the staff is nice.
i think the wall is not that thick so you can hear some noises from the next door or outside. but it's ok tho.

I stayed for 3 days and 2 nights, and my whole stay the staff was really kind and welcoming.
The facilities were clean, not only the room but the shower room (onsen) also. There weren’t many people, so I was able to enjoy it peacefully.
The room felt old and it was cold every morning when I woke up. The radiator was the water kind, so it was really loud and I had to turn it off at night to be able to sleep.
The futon was also extremely hard and bumpy which gave me a big problem falling sleep. I couldn’t properly sleep for the night as I kept waking up.
It’s also a bit far away (1 hour by bus) from Hide Takayama, so anyone who wants to visit the city should be mindful of that.

The onsen was very lovely! The was a rotenburo (outdoor bath) and it was also the first onsen I've been at where there was an elevator that you could use to get between the changing room and onsen if taking the stairs is difficult. :>Outside the onsen near the vending machines, there was also a spring water fountain where you could fill up your water bottle. ^-^

We had chosen the room with private onsen with breakfast and dinner included.
We were shown to our room by an Obasan (As our room was deep inside the ryokan towards the end!), and she explained everything about our room and the facilities available! Modern amenities with the rustic traditional ryokan, love it.
We had an allocated private space to dine in at the restaurant, and the set course meal was really enjoyable!
As we spoke little to none Japanese, the staff were thoroughly helpful and tried their best in explaining.

The indoor bath was excellent, the view with all the snow was very beautiful, the meal was very tasty. And they have a vegetarian course witch my husband enjoyed very much.
There’s nothing that I didn’t liked. Everything was perfect.

The hotel was renovated probably few years ago, so it’s quite clean. The food is ok, though the breakfast is very Japanese) We liked the private onsen in our room very much!

The friendly and helpful staff are amazing. Excellent service even for those with small children. The private onsen helped bring about full relaxation.
