The location is superb, such a lovely peaceful and quiet place. Loved watching Weka's/ Pukeko and their babies out the window in the long grass fossicking for food.
Unfortunately, I found the cleanliness not up to standard, the floors were terrible as well as cobwebs all over the ceiling and on the outside windows. Also the bedspread was very dirty with big marks over it.
Sorry Steve, the place does need a good spring clean and outside, long grass and gardens dealt with!!

The host was very personable and accommodating.
The location was nice. The Tuis commanding their territory and the cheeky fantails playing with the frisky horse in the paddock.
The chalet cauld do with a little updating and a deep clean.
But was comfotable and warm enough.

I would have given it higher ratings but sadly the electric was off from the Saturday evening right through until about 9am the next morning and it was a very cold night. Steve did let me use his house to boil the kettke. I realise it was out of his control, but it did not enhance our stay at what is a very quaint pleasant venue.

The owner is very friendly and helpful. The view from our cabin was nice. The room was warm. There was a good amount of space for a family of 4. Dog friendly
The hot water ran out on our last morning, I'm sure it was just lack of gas and we didn't tell the owner while we were there as we don't live far away so could have a shower when we got home. A few more mugs for all guests there were only 2.

What a great location , comfortable , affordable place to stay
Steve is a great host , has great local area knowledge
In the evening there is a wood fired pizza oven and Steve supplies free pizza dough all you need is some toppings , this makes for a very social atmosphere
We hope to return on our next south island trip
Cheers Steve

beautiful gardens and layout.
Dirty and dusty. refrigerator not cleaned, bedding not properly washed, floor was so dirty next to my bed I used a hand towel to clean it so I could put my feet on the floor without treading in rubbish. The view out the bedroom window was onto a rubbish heap with an old broken down washing machine. The cottage we had been offered by the owner as an upgrade had been rented to someone else, no explanation no apology. The Yurt we had booked was also rented out. We were given accommodation attached to Steve’s house so there was an almost constant stream of other guests passing through our area and even knocking on the door thinking we were employees. The final night the owner had an entire group of people singing and dancing until 10 pm. might have been nice to have been informed so we could go out somewhere. I’m aware the owner has philanthropic

Stayed in the yurt, which was very cool. Good location and good host.
There wasn't a lock on the yurt door, even just a latch on the inside would have been fine as it would have made sleeping abit easier

The location is idyllic. 3 minutes from the sea at Pohara. We saw penguin nest boxes and saw-heard actually!-blue penguins crossing the harbour carpark at night. The helpful and friendly owner, Steve, lives on site and happily joined in our impromptu music session , bringing a superb musician to the evening. The cabin was a really good size with well equipped kitchen and nice shower.
Set in its own gardens with a work in progress nature pond. Outdoor Pizza oven and eating area. Ideal for families or couples and solo travelers. AND you get to drive the awesome Takaka hill drive. Also 20 minutes from Anatoki Salmon fishing farm-catch your own-recommend the salmon pizza.
Nothing Loved it all.

Loved the spaciousness of outdoor area and the view from our cottage. Bed was comfy, tv was reliable and nice hot shower. Two heaters to keep warm was appreciated.
More cooking utensils and serving bowls, etc would be helpful for eating in, please. BYO hot water bottle if you want a warmer bed.

A warm welcome by Steve, the host.
The location was beautiful.
I am really sorry to write this, however, since I pay attention to what other travellers say in their reviews, I felt it necessary to give a bit of an update on this property.
Some offers are no longer available at this property, i.e. breakfast, pizza doughs/oven, etc., so please enquire beforehand to avoid disappointment.
On first impression the property looked like it could benefit from some TLC, however, this might be explained by the fact that it was autumn when we stayed.
What really upset me though was that our 'chalet' was in such a sad state. We were told it was ready for us, yet the deck was covered in leaves, and as we entered it became clear that the rooms, kitchen area and bathroom had not been cleaned for a long time. What stopped us from leaving straight away was the fact that the linen on the bed was clean (whilst of a slightly musty odour), and the fact that Steve appeared to be a genuinely nice person.
I am sure this was a superb place to stay, once upon a time. A bit of TLC, a very good clean. And we might consider staying again. But not whilst it is in this sad state. Sorry.

Booked for a one-night weekend away with a group of friends. The cabins are a good size, have a separate kitchen with fridge and separate bathroom. The beds were in separate areas, separated with a curtain for added privacy. There had been recent updates to the bathroom and the shower was great. Make sure you book the massage in advance as it's well worth it! Lovely grounds and a very chill atmosphere. The host is very welcoming, friendly and accommodating.
They had forgotten we had ordered breakfast, so make sure you give them a nudge before you go.
As has been mentioned in other reviews, all the the important bits like beds and linen and floor were clean, but walls, windows, etc were a bit grubby. Deck was a bit overgrown. Just needs a scrub up. Nothing major to stop me wanting to come back though!

Awesome location. Owner very friendly. We were meant to in the yurt but was not set up so put into a cottage. The outlook was stunning but place needs a tidy up. Our door front door wouldn't shut without help. Just needs a bit of TLC. Awesome location and price with lots of visitors.
It needs some work done.
