Mercilia was there to greet us. She provided a key and walk through of O Palheiro and also the grounds. She was warm and welcoming and cared very much to ensure we were comfortable. The other on-site employees were friendly and attentive. The grounds were lovely with fruiting and flowering plants. Other guests were often sitting outside enjoying the area outside their rooms or the common area and they seemed to enjoy the peace but also were social and we met several of them and learned about their visits.
O Palheiro was newly rented and there were some things that didn't appear to be ready for guests in the room. These have been shared with the management of the location and hopefully will be completed. The staff that was on-site was great about finding solutions to items required.

The property was very beautiful and big. There was room for different activities.
The mattresses were not very good and the pilows either. One siphon was clogged and the water was or too cold or too hot. Very difficult to graduate the temperature of the water. The internet was not useful upstairs.

The property was located in pleasant and relaxing area.
Overall the property is well looked after.
Construction work ( noise ) being done at the property while.
The windows aren’t fitted with nets allowing lizards to get into the kitchen.
The room was incredibly hot and there were no fans available.

on the days when it was sunny and warm, we rested quietly
on rainy days it also rained in the house, when we sat at the table it rained on our heads and on the dishes. The sofa bed for the third place to sleep was not comfortable at all. The heater did not work and we could not heat the house when it was cold, but we came in december

Quiet neighborhood, everything you need. Fruit you can pick and eat off. mint leaves to make tea every morning!
Depends on the person, maybe a bit to hard bed for most people, could definitely be softer.

Caretakers were friendly and the place was up in the mountains nice for retreat and walking. (read construction note)
Caretakers were very helpful and friendly. Would have been nice to know there was construction taking place just a few feet below my cabin. Caretakers tried to help with noise level but it was uncomfortable asking workers to stop when they were there to work? Not good management on the owners part.
No food was offered breakfast? so bring your own I did so it worked. Also owner did not introduce himself or say hello just seemed to busy? or didnt care? Also space could have been cleaner and get rid of the plastic plants!

Cincia and Joe were very absolutely lovely hosts. They made my stay at the property that much better! I had issues with getting the car up the VERY narrow and steep hill to the property, and they were helpful in learning how and resoling issues. The bed in my cottage was comfortable, and the cottage was lovely. The property is quirky and fun, though the pool was not finished being built yet, sadly! I'm sure it will be lovely once it is.
Mostly the hill to get up to the property. I stalled out in first gear multiple times trying to get up it.

This was our second visit to Casas Maravilha and this time we stayed in the "Tree" a rather quirky house which we loved. Also our hosts, Cinzia and Jo were particularly welcoming and helpful. They organised a lovely BBQ with some other guests which made a fun evening.
The weather was unusually chilly for a few days but we were kept warm and cosy by a lovely stove fire.

Nothing at all!
When we arrived we were laughed at because we didn't have a car - this place is at the top of a hill (very long and steep) and most of the restaurants and bars we at the bottom of it! You need a car! We were show to our room - the lady asked us if this was our room!?!? The floor boards were swollen up into a triangle - she just laughed at them! Massive trip hazard - as I found many a time - photos available. The sheets were stained and the bathroom floor was flooded with urine (photos) and the shower was in and state - photos. Our bedroom window opened close to a aviary with lots of caged birds. There were 2 in the compound and both looked in a poor state. The rest of the grounds looked like an abandoned amusement park - empty swimming pool - lots of meaningless signs and scruffy shacks all over the place! Don't come here - it's weird and tatty - we left the next day!

The property and the surroundings are very nice. Sadly it was a bit dirty. The bed sheets where a bit dirty and there was mold in the hangers, the shower mat and the coffe machine. The owner did respond and change the sheets and the mat. Still I would not recommend this property, unless these concerns are addressed.

This is an AMAZING place. Casas Maravilha is a fantastic place where there are a whole variety of houses, each equipped with their own bathroom, kitchen and patio area with a grill, all surrounded by a beautiful garden full of flowers, trees, birds and a cozy central room with games to relax. Soon there will be a pool and the views are fabulous from almost every point. We stayed in The Nest, which is a very cozy cabin, all wood but with every commodity you could ever need. It was a little bit hot at night in June but nothing that was a bother, really.
Just keep in mind this place is UP on the hill. Like... UUUUUUUUUUUUUP. Be ready to drive all the way uphill at least 15mins from Calheta Beach. But really, almost all of Madeira is like this.

Rural, nice caban with outside kitchen, you can sit their enjoying the nature around.
Inside the caban is fully equipped and nicely decorated.

Creatively funky property with lots of quirky, imaginative details and a commitment to environmental responsibility. Beautiful location high up in the hills. Fresh eggs from the chickens and vegetables from the garden. Levada walks nearby. Would recommend our room in the main guest house as spacious and comfortable.
A bit musty in common rooms.

A welcome package of home grown products, like salad, eggs and fresh fruits. The private terrace with a hammock and a barbecue place was very nice. The private parking place directly in front of the house.
The mattress was a little bit too soft.
