About this house rental
This 7 bedroom, 4 bath home sleeps 16 n beds with room for more, and sits on over half an acre (3 wonderfully shaded and secluded lots) on the end of a dead-end road, only 2 blocks to the blue stairs at South Beach, and 1 block to Kids Corner! For the bicycle-enthusiast, the newly-paved bike-trail sits 50-feet from the home. This wonderful 4-mile trail will take you directly to the State Park, where you can explore dunes, sit on the beach, and explore an area that many who come to South Haven do not even know exists. If you're looking for a family-friendly South Beach vacation in South Haven, you have found your home!
Because it's summer, you'll get a lot of use out of the outdoor kitchen, featuring an oversize grill, sink, and fridge, with an eat-out counter, sitting on over 500 square feet of stone patio.
The home includes three downstairs bedrooms, one with a Queen bed, one with a King and a twin, and one with a King. Full bath with tub/shower downstairs. Large living room with a 55" 1080p tv that is open to dining room. Living Room, dining room, and kitchen/kitchen eating nook are all very open-concept, and family gathering indoors will not be a problem for even the largest groups!
Four upstairs bedrooms, two have a queen, one has a queen and a twin, one has four twins. Two full baths upstairs, one with a beautiful tumbled-stone tile, glass encased walk-in shower, another with a whirlpool tub.
Kitchen features poured-concrete counter tops, new stainless appliances, and bar-seating for four. Formal dining area features two tables with-seating for 12-16.
Back yard is huge, with plenty of mature trees and areas for the kids to explore! Across the street is a city-owned park area where you can play soccer, throw a baseball around, or have a little picnic!
I purchased this home in November 2014. This home was COMPLETELY GUTTED, down to the studs.
There is a 460 square-foot outbuilding that has been "game room," with a bar, poker table, TV, and full bath with walk-in shower, pull-out couch, Air conditioning/heat, and dual walk-out sliders to the outdoor kitchen off of the main home. The building is really cool, and definitely gives your group some options with respect to living space and privacy.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email.

If you want a place two blocks from the beach with a large yard, this may work. However, if cleanliness and comfort matter, look elsewhere. We didn’t receive check-in info via VRBO, so I emailed him. He texted the details later and mentioned a big new Weber gas grill.
When we arrived, the house was covered in cobwebs. While some are normal in summer, we didn't expect spiders inside in every corner or above the beds. The furniture was ripped, the mattresses were so worn that two people would roll into the middle, and the floors were too dirty to walk on barefoot. Sheets looked dirty, and paint was peeling around the house.
The freezer was missing shelves, making it nearly unusable. When I contacted John, he said the cleaning crew should have informed him about the freezer. Two hours later, water leaked from the fridge. He said it had been leaking for a month and suggested we use towels. Talk about a safety hazard. I cannot believe it takes a month to replace a fridge. The bathrooms were moldy and misrepresented. One had just a jacuzzi, and another was in a filthy outhouse. Not great for after the beach.
When I expressed our disappointment, John was dismissive: that the appeal was the location and yard and we could leave if we wanted. Where were to go?
Ironically, the yard was in such bad shape we asked if he could turn on the water so we could clean the patio to sit for a meal. He never responded, so we swept it ourselves. We had to clean the grill ourselves to use it.

Property was perfect for our group. Great yard for my grandsons to play in. We had nightly fires and movies.
Out building worked great for an office for work calls. Location was perfect for the park and beach.

Great location and no traffic since it is at end of street. House is ok but could use some TLC.

If you want all polished hardwood floors, spacious bedrooms with tvs (even closets) and modern furniture, go elsewhere. The 7 private bedrooms, many with more than 1 bed (plus a separate outbuilding with a fold-out couch) met our extended family's priority for a week's stay very near Lake Michigan within South Haven with a very safe property for young children. The landlord was helpful.

The house was so comfortable. Beach access was really close, with a pleasant walk through a lovely old neighborhood. A bluff above the beach had benches and was perfect for older members of our group to watch the sunset. The large yard had a table for dinner, an outdoor kitchen with a grill and a firepit that made it ideal for family gatherings. We just enjoyed our stay there so much and would recommend it to everyone!

The house is in a great location. However, the owner needs to spend time on repairs and maintenance. I did not reach out to the homeowner, because there were repairs that needed to be made over 2 years ago, that he still not has addressed. The refrigerator leaks, ice maker doesn't work. We did have a good time, but we would not rent the house again.

Our family enjoyed our stay. Great location and size for a large family. Private setting at the end of the street near a biking/walking trail. Close to the beach, a large playground, and short walk into town. South Haven is a very nice area. The property met our needs and has a lot of potential.

We had a couple issues I got a hold of the property owner working on resolving the issues. Thank you again, John.

Not clean; cobwebs and kitchen supplies. Broken chairs.

Dirty.
Mold in showers and slimy. No mirror in bathroom. Very difficult to open and close sliding door. Easy fixes and desperately needs a deep clean. Property has great potential if kept up better.

Always fun in South Haven
Property location on dead end street ideal for children with large yard for kids to play. Rooms were small but for the most part adequate. Bathroom facilities could be updated and cleaner and refrigerator leaked water with non functioning water and ice dispenser. Despite these problems house was very comfortable and we enjoyed are time in South Haven at this property. Thank you!

House in need of attention
We were disappointed in the house upon arrival. The bathroom grout was dirty, the grass needed mowing and the extra game room was very musty smelling. I did contact the owner and he was prompt in having the yard mowed and the bathrooms were cleaned but the problem is the type of grout.
The house furnishings were very minimal and the living room furniture was pretty worn. It would have been nice to have hooks or rods available in all the bedrooms for hanging bath towels.
The location was great and we did enjoy the outdoors.

Not worth the money
Only nice thing here was location. This property has a long list of disrepair items …. Leaking through the ceiling from upstairs bathroom, mold growth in upstairs shower and in laundry room, leaking refrigerator with non working ice maker, patio furniture that frankly was scary to sit on, grill was filthy, lawn needed mowed and the place has not seen a landscaper in some time. Furniture was scarce and in poor shape. Only one TV in the entire main house… really? It’s really a shame because this place has so much potential if the owner would invest back into the property. My suggestion ~ keep looking this property is not worth $700+ per night.

Don’t always get what you pay for!!!
Short on towels, refrigerator froze items, ice machine didn’t work, toaster browned one side, screen on slider taped to hold together, didn’t slide. Loose patio blocks separated, patio chairs iffy, upstairs shower leaked through ceiling on to my suitcase full of clothes. Definitely need some TLC. Also a woman touch wouldn’t hurt.

Fantastic location, poor property upkeep
Best things about this property are location (close to beach and bike trail) and large back yard, however house was not clean and in poor repair.
There were several issues with the building. Upper half of house is quite a bit warmer than lower half and several upstairs windows had no screens. Mouse droppings in kitchen cabinet and outbuilding, mattresses stained and without covers, not enough sheets for all beds, outside grill only heated to 300 degrees, dirty dishes in kitchen cabinet when we arrived, stained towels. Property could really shine with proper cleaning, pest control, and better upkeep, especially for rental price.

So so property in a great location
The actual house was not as nice as the photos. The kitchen tables and chairs were different and the covering on the chairs was ripped. The living room furniture, also different from the photos, was mismatched, uncomfortable and in poor condition. The exterior was not kept up in the same condition as depicted in the photo. For the extra cleaning fee I expected a more thoroughly cleaned house. There were lots of dusty furniture surfaces and dusty baseboards. The outdoor furniture was also dirty and in poor condition. While we enjoyed our week in South Haven because of the convenient location and great weather; I had the impression the owner felt he didn’t have to try so much while charging a premium price, just because of the location and spaciousness of the property. I would love to return but only if there were assurances of furniture upgrades and better cleaning.

Perfect 4th of July Getaway
This spot was perfect for our group for the long weekend. Fit 14 people comfortably and had a large backyard that was great for a variety of activities. Short walk to the beach and easy drive to local stores/golf courses were a huge plus as well. Will be checking availability again for a return trip.

We really enjoyed our stay and John was very accommodating and available when we had any questions. The house is in a great location. Within walking distance to the beach, playground and downtown. Highly recommend !

This house is perfect for a large family gathering. The location is great as you can walk downtown and to the beach. The bedrooms were smaller than they appeared on line but we managed fine. No one ever had to wait for a bathroom as there were 4 though we hadn't anticipated running out of toilet paper in the first 24 hours and having to go to the store. We also could have used a few more plates and silverware. The large back yard was wonderful and the three grandchildren has a ball playing soccer (Women's World Cup was in progress) with the adults.Overall, I would rate this house excellent and we would come back in two years when we want to do it again.

Fabulous Location!
This property was a fabulous location for our large family reunion. It is so close to Kids Corner and the Blue Stairway to the beach, we felt like we could go to each multiple times most days. Downtown was also close....we managed to walk in to the Golden Brown Bakery many mornings for yummies. Shopping was so convenient as were the restaurants. The dead end street and bike path were perfect for the kiddos to ride their bikes without having to worry about traffic. The huge yard was perfect for many baseball games.
The AC worked well even though we were there during the extremely hot days at the end of June.
The paint colors inside were lovely as were the baseboards and crown mouldings. We appreciated all the can lighting, although some lamps would be nice, too. We enjoyed the multiple tables for eating and games.
Parking was great for multiple cars.
Owner was attentive to our needs.
Hope to be back next year.

Perfect for a large family with a lot of young kids
This is a large, comfortable house with a large yard on a cul-de-sac two blocks from a great playground and to the beach. It also has a "mancave." There is plenty of room to eat either outside or inside. It has a washer and dryer which is really nice. The furniture is functional but not designer stuff, but in reality, that is better for our party than a place where you are walking on eggshells because one of your kids might break something!
It is easily accessible to 2 bike trails. The one to Van Buren beach is a good trail but quite unaesthetic (goes by a recycling plant for example) whereas the Kal Haven trial is really nice (a short ride through town to get to it.
I am not giving 5 stars just because one of the chairs was torn with stuffing coming and the dishwasher was not clean. Those things are easily remedied and I would definitely stay here again if I had the chance.
The beach is really nice and our kids really loved it. We didn't have great weather but that has nothing to do with this house!

We enjoyed our time in Southhaven very much. The location was great. Kids enjoyed the park and we loved the beach. We appreciated the big yard, the size of the house and all the space to do things. Thank you so much!

This is our 3rd year at this property and 4th with the owner.
This house is perfect for those with children. Lots off inside room and great outside area, large lawn and bike path across the street. We love it here and the owner has been excellent to work with on anything we might need.

Location, location, location!
What could be better than being on a large lot within walking distance to Kids' Korner, the beach, AND town? Being the last house on a dead end street, that's what! The location was perfect for our large family. There was plenty of room for the kids to play ball and throw frisbees, and there were no worries about anyone running into the street in front of a car.
The household amenities and furniture are pretty basic, but that suits our crowd just fine!

Fine House for Large Groups – A little Rough Around the Edges
We stayed for a week in July with a large family group. The accommodations were as described. The outdoor space really made the house for us. We enjoyed games in the backyard each evening as we cooked on the grill. We mostly ate dinner around the grill/outdoor table area. The house should be described as affordable, meaning the layout and furnishings are not spectacular. The interior space is limited for large group. We could not all gather in one room at the same time, such as over drinks or dinner. The kitchen was tight. The kitchen furnishings were more than adequate. But the furniture in the living room needs to be replaced. The couch sags and the cover on the couch is there so you don’t see the stains. The easy chair had rips in arms and seat. For any rental, we expect the cleaning between renters to be immaculate. Instead we found dirty areas in many areas of the house, for example, dishes left under a couch, the tracks to the outside door full of dead bugs, spiders and cobwebs in many corners of the house. If you want to say, “This will do”, this is the place. If you want to be wowed for your beach vacation, maybe not.

Awesome house for a ton of people
This property is close to everything and I highly recommend it. We used it for a family reunion and had plenty of space for 20 people. Room for dining, relaxing and steps from the beach and playgrounds. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. John is a good dude

Great location and very functional house
We were very happy with the house and would recommend to large groups not looking for high end accommodations. House is walking distance to downtown and the beach. The bonus house was awesome for watching football and keeping the noise down at night in the main house. One of the more functional rentals you'll ever find.

A great space and location for large groups.
The house easily accommodated our large, multi-family group. The location was perfect. Only a few blocks from Kids Park and the beach and a short walk to downtown. The large back yard with outdoor patio and kitchen is perfect for enjoying long evenings outside. The additional house was a bonus and was enjoyed by all the kids, however it could use some airing out...it was a little bit musty smelling. The big house was spacious with plenty of comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. We will be back next year!

Good location, so-so property
Easy access to the beach and kids corner is fantastic. But the property lacks shady outdoor space around the house. The yard is barren. The house is poorly equipped -- very little in the way of kitchen implements available, for instance, and bare hardwood floors and scant furnishing. Could be made tons better with some area rugs, much better-supplied kitchen, a screened outdoor gazebo. Nice cooking area outdoors.

Beautiful home!!
Our family of 15 adults & 7 kids stayed in this home June 2016. John has done a beautiful job with renovating. The bedrooms are plenty (3 on 1st floor & 4 on 2nd floor). The 2 queen bedrooms on 2nd floor are small but the rest are roomy. There are no closets but 5 of the bedrooms have dressers & there is a hanging clothes rack & dresser in the upstairs hall. The 4 twins room ("dorm room") is massive!! All beds are so comfortable. Bathrooms (4) are all amazing & large. Having laundry was ideal. John provided some products to get us started for the week which was very much appreciated . The outdoor kitchen is awesome & propane is included. The location was perfect for us as it is the last house on a dead end street. Plenty of parking in drive & very close to kids park, beach, shopping etc. The kitchen itself is cozy but very functional with nice appliances & lots of storage. Everything is kindly provided. If you have a large group, bring large serving bowls, there are some bowls there but only a few.The new outbuilding was ideal for late nights with a sofa sleeper, poker table, huge wet bar with fridge & massive bathroom. Some of our group slept out there for privacy on air mattresses. The fire pit was wonderful. Our very small issues were very quickly resolved by Cassidy & John. They were both wonderful & communication was prompt. Cassidy even went so far as to escort us to the house when we got lost coming in. Thank you both for a superb week. We will definitely be back for another memorable week)))

Great location!
We had a great family reunion at this house with 18 adults and 3 babies. Overall, we were very pleased. The owner and his assistants were very good to work with, and we would rent this house again. We felt that the best feature is the location of the house. We spent lots of time playing different sports in the park in front of the house. Several enjoyed skate boarding on the bike path, and the kids had fun at the great Kids' Corner nearby. Being so close to the beach is great. We walked there several times, and the little ones enjoyed playing in the sand and wading. We also walked out on the pier to watch the sunset, as well as walking to the center of town a couple of times. So 732 is very well situated for a variety of fun activities to do.
There are a few things that would make the house more enjoyable for guests, and we shared those with the owner. They are not big or expensive things, so hopefully he will be able to make a few improvements. The out building is very nice for game playing, and the bathroom is large and quite new.
All in all we were very happy with the house.

Perfect for a Large Group with Kids
This house was perfect for our large family gathering (10 adults, 10 kids). We had kids in the group, ranging from ages 1 to 15. There's a nice big back yard to play in, the Kid's Corner a block away, and a beach access just past that. The furnishing and appliances are all new. Some of the trim work looks to be incomplete, but that certainly had no bearing on our stay. The kitchen/dining/living room is all open. When people are gathered in those different areas of the house, you don't feel separated from the others. The three downstairs bedrooms are right off the main rooms (one bedroom off of each: kitchen, dining and living room), which you may need to consider if kids need to sleep in those rooms while others are awake. There are several bedrooms upstairs though if you need to be further from the noise of the kitchen/dining/living area. I've rented several VRBO's before and John is by far the nicest, most responsive owner I've dealt with. He responded to my email questions quickly (usually within minutes). I would definitely stay here again the next time I have a family gathering in South Haven.
