I liked the fact that it was very cost effective to stay at the hostel and I was able to make some new friends. Definitely would stay at this location again. v
I didn't like that there were no clean towels to use and I had to buy towels from the property and they didn't smell very clean. I recommend bringing your own bath/beach towels and toiletries. Overall, I had a good stay for what it was worth.

*Amazing pool, communal areas and kitchen
*rooftop area to watch sunset
*great Wi-Fi
*staff were lovely
*supermarket nearby
*you can get a bus to West End beach for $1 and they are every 10/15 mins
*The only designated smoking area is right in front of the kitchen where people eat. I don’t understand why the smoking area is not the lizard lounge on the roof.
*The kitchen is locked at 7.30pm and opened again at 7.30am in the morning which is stupid because I wake up early and want breakfast
*They charge for drinking water and I think they should be free in hostels

I found it to be very charming and for a hostel quite spacious. I felt like I was within nature and I like how Roatan Backpackers Hostel embraces the environment.
Nothing I disliked

Great property, cool vibe, great place to meet other backpackers, owner is very knowledgeable about the island
4.5
The property was beautiful and the pool was refreshing. The bed was comfortable and it was nice the provided towels
It would have been nice to have a bigger fan and access to drinking water if you didn’t bring a refillable container.

Always a great time here.

Nice pool area. Area was quiet at night after guests at pool quieted down. Bed/linens/pillows were comfortable. Book exchange.
I try not to stay in hostels but lodging in Roatan is pricey!
The designated smoking area is next to the kitchen and I didn't like worrying about smokers when preparing and eating meals. Kitchen towels were filthy, apparently changed only after several days. Many guests were annoying with smoking, rude behavior and cell phone noise as well as talking loudly in the pool area. Didn't like the dinner options at hostel and no good restaurants in walking distance. Taxi drivers cheated me when I went to West End if I did not have exact fare. Sandy Bay beach area was filthy.

very nice all ages hostel
a bit noisy at night

Beautiful garden that was all planted by the owner. Really nice pool that's great to hang out with a beer and relax.

The service at the front desk the staff were great and the restaurant was cute
it was a little from from the dive shops and if you have scuba gear it’s a pain to haul everything up the stairs

Mel was amazing and provided excellent information at check in. Easy to get to West End and West Bay. Grocery store and great coffee shop within walking distance. Sandy Bay beach good for snorkeling. Also got a $10 off coupon to check out Mayan ziplines, 10min away by taxi.

They don't offer free breakfast but there's restaurant where you can order and pay for it.
They have scooters to rent.
It's a place to meet friends, at least.
The hostel don't accept payment by card.
The location was not the best, far from West End where are most of the bars and restaurants.
The shared room was small and a bit dark.
The pool was not clean so it was closed during the time I've been in the hostel.

I liked it very much. Its in the sandy bay. There is access for the sandy bay beach. Hostel has such a beautiful pool which u can enjoy and drink. There are smokin and nonsmokin areas. U can chill at the balcony which is just in front of the kitchen. I liked cookin in this place very much cause socializing with the people in kitchen while cookin and eatin at balcony was amazing🥰
Owner of the hostel Mel is so helpfull about everythn.. u can rent scooter to discover the island, did that too, was fantastic.
If u wanna go to west end, west bay, coxen hole etc, just in front of the hostel you can find collectivos, taxis and buses.. if u like walking, u can arrive west end in 40 mins.. i always did that. Walkin way is amazing in the nature..
Here is a advise about the island. Bring cash with u before arrived. Cause all atms are emty anytime 😅 ı couldnt pay the hostel in 1st day. Mel was so understanding at that time and told me how can i do it.
While i was there, volunteers were incredible nice.
Mo 🖤
Thank u for everythin.. hope to be back 💃🏾

Cheapest place in town and has a nice pool and lounge area. Staff is great and food is tasty.
A bit far from the town but taxis are cheap or you can walk (just a bit far)

Basic, but ok for a short stay. Mopeds available, pool, small restaurant, and local dive school offers pick up service. Supermarket 300m away.
There isn't much nearby to do that's within walking distance and the area isn't safe after sunset. But if there's a group and everyone is sociable, then an evening at the hostel will be fine.

great value for travelers on a budget. the staff is nice and helpful.

I loved how lush and tropical the hostel was! The restaurant was good with very good service! The place was comfortable and a good value. There was a grocery store nearby. And there were tourists spots not too far away. The local minivan collectives were an easy and cheap way to see the island. You could stop one at the main road which was a short walk from the hostel.

I didn't know there's gonna be a swimming pool and that was big surprise, nice beaches are not really close so that pool is very appreciated. Also a landscape around property is stunning. Many trees and flowers. Loved Mel the manager. Very nice person. I met there so many nice people in that property. They do breakfasts and dinners all day for good price, very useful for lazy cookers like me 😄 and swing on my terrace ohhh. Dreamy accomodation!!!

they stored my baggage before check-in 👍
the fan is insufficient for a bunk bed, extreme heat at night + unsuitable bed linen material... if you will stay for more than one night, expect no cleaning 🙄 due to the locality a little separately community. Shame that no some of the backpacker does not support the local canteens in Colonia Policarpo Galindo, but it will probably be the know-how of Backpackers hostel... Noise from the next room in the cottage if clients opt for entertainment by 2:00 AM 🙄

nice setting and on main bus route. owner Mel is really friendly and a great host. she provided lots of information on things to do on the island. kitchen well equipped and a nice area to hang out and meet other travellers. didn’t use swimming pool but it looked good.
bed wasn’t most comfortable. on my last night I swapped to a different room and it was so hot I couldn’t sleep at all. there was a fan but it didn’t seem to do anything. my precious room was much cooler.

Friendly staff, great onsite restaurant, excellent pool and common areas for socialising.

The owner, Mel, was very friendly and incredibly helpful. Checking in was quick and easy. She gave us a brief tour of the facility and a very helpful presentation on where we could get a our Covid tests prior to travel, navigating the island, and things to check out in the area. There was also a very detailed binder with tips and tricks for our stay. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed our meal and the on-site restaurant. We were unfortunately only there for an evening but would have liked to stay longer.
We have no real complaints. Her puppy is adorable but still learning to pick up on social cues ( as to be expected). However that is a very minor note, and we enjoyed our brief stay.

The staff was so helpful…loved Mel! The dinner was great food and convenient.
