We loved our stay at Maasai Hostel. Swahiba, were wonderful hosts, helping answering all of our questions and making our stay extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the included breakfast and dinner for $10 USD per person each night, which was delicious (and very generous portions)! The wifi was also strong, rooms were clean and the house was a manageable walk from the Mall and culture heritage Would highly recommend staying here - especially for a relaxing few days before or after a safari - also Swahiba help coordinate the safari for five days is real amazing. Is easy to book the hostel and safari at Maasai hostel. Looking to come back.

Swahiba was a great host. He came to point our taxi the right way to the hostel, and quickly arranged a tuktuk for us to go into town. The room itself was basic but clean. Overall it was really good value for money.
Be aware that the location is a bit out of town, you’ll have to take a tuktuk or motorcyle to get there. These can easily be arranged through Swahiba so for us it was not a problem

The property is really nice, located in a quite neighbourhood with a nice living room and a comfortable bedroom. Good beds and a great breakfast! The host is really friendly and helped us with everything!!

Belinda is a good host!
I booked a safari with swashiva for which i.paud $200 USA but should really cost $100 USA. They transfered me to moskito town in a Dalah Dalah, we were at the mercy of Abdule who did VERY SHORT game drves

Breakfast was decent: instant coffee, eggs, toast and fruit. The location is hard to find by drivers from Arusha.
I was expecting Massai people running it and they do not have anything with Massai people or culture. Also, the owner sold me a HORRIBLE trip. He charged me for a 5 star trip and i got a 1 start trip in EVERY RESPECT: TRUCK IN A HORRIBLE SHAPE, mediocre food, driver did very short game drives, tents run down

We got a very bad experience at Maasai Hostel.
We arrived at the adress written on Booking and did not find anything. We went on the one we found on Google Map and did not find anything. We asked people in the street, noone knew about the place. We called the phone number on Booking, noone replied. Finaly, we found another number. A boy from Maasai Hostel told us that Maasai Hostel was full (while we exchanged messages before!) and they would send someone to show us their orner hotel for the same price. We drove for 20 minutes before arriving to a place where noone welcomed us. They gave us a girl on the Phone who told us she was the owner of the place and she never heard about Maasai Hostel while the boy we had on the phone from Maasai Hostel told us both of the places where from the same owner... We booked at Maasai Hostel because it was close from the airport and looked like a warm place and ended up in a place where we did not feel safe.
I highly don't recommend to book with them !

The hostel was very clean and had all useful facilities. Swahiba, the host, was amazing. not only did he arrange the pick up and drop off of the airport, he also took care of all the activities I wanted to do and really makes sure you feel comfortable during your stay. it was truly an amazing experience as a first solo trip.
Although the location of the hostel is a bit far from the center of Arusha, you're in a quiet neighborhood and Swahiba will help booking rides to go around town.

Swahiba is there for everything you may need! he will arrange tuk tuk, motorcycle, safaris or anything on the earth you may need!
wifi is a bit slow for us who needed it

Great hospitality from Swahiba, the owner. Arranged an exceptional safari trip. House is super well maintained and well equipped with everything you would need at a home and they clean every single time. Swahiba is very accommodating with all requests and very kind.
The city in general has power outages at night which can be a bit challenging. And it is a bit of a distance from the town proper, which commute would be a little tricky, but Swahiba arranged them nonetheless.

Swahiba is really easy going and helped us organize the safari (see above). The hostel is really clean and his girlfriend caring
The hostel is really far from the city center - can't walk to it but like 10 minutes bei tuctuc. The safari we've booked through the owner was lacking in professionalism (car was falling a part, we had to push several time to get it rolling, nobody told us the plan in advance or even while going).

Nice host, central location, clean :)

The owner is a great and helpful guy who arranged everything we needed to feel comfortable. If you are looking for a cheaper accommodation and want to get a decent value for the price, go ahead!
The heater was broken at the time we stayed there (no warm water unless you boil it yourself) + the “african toilet”

The host Swahiba is so helpful. He really made our stay memorable and was an awesome tour guide.
There was nothing not to like. The WiFi wasn't great on day 1 but it was fixed quickly 😊

Swahiba is a great host, very friendly, sociable and caring about his guests. He unpromptedly gave me a great upgrade as there were few visitors that night.
It's a bit out of the way. But that makes it quiet :)

Swahiba was the best host and was incredibly accommodating. The property was clean and spacious with a great addition of a kitchen for your use. Highly recommend!

The hostel is in renovation, so owner gave us a whole apartment nearby. Very nice people, speaks very good english.
You should not worry about location because Tanzanian people are very friendly.
There is not any sign of the hostel. It is possible that your taxi driver won't know the location of the hostel and also the location on google is wrong (on booking is ok), but you can always call Swahiba... He also offered to pick-up us in advance.

Swahiba was an amazing host, good communication, very welcoming and he helped us for the transfer. The house is clean and modern with all you need to have a pleasant stay (kitchen, TV, etc). Thanks again!

Great location close to the city centre (the Booking.com location is accurate; Google Maps is outdated). Quiet area, comfortable flat with own kitchen, bathroom and living room. Swahiba is a great host, we are glad for having got to know him and supporting his business. Bed was comfortable and the fruit juice maker in the kitchen was a bonus! :)
The WiFi went away after a day and it would have made our lives a bit easier if it was fixed; the shower is still being installed, so we had to use a bucket (this wasn't an issue though and we know it will be fixed for future guests).

I didn't experience the hostel cause they were on a renovation, but the backup place was so much better than my acceptation, i got an apartment for a price of a bed on a dormitory, the house was so clean and the young couple used to come and clean it everyday. Any thing i needed i just asked and they helped me. There is a young environment. Also took a tour with the owner to the hatzabe tribe which was out of my budget but was definitely worth it, and was the cheapest i could find

The Maasai Hostel was a great place to stay one night.
The owner is very kind and nice with hosts.
I recommend this place.
The place is a bit far of the main city. But you know that before booking, so it is more a quiet place to chill than a place to go out and enjoy the city.
