This was probably the best place we stayed...a gorgeous home, in beautiful farmland, with a wonderful family as host. It was like staying in the Bennett's home in Pride & Prejudice. My family absolutely loved it; went for runs and walks in the countryside, visited with the award-winning pigs, had lovely dinners in nearby towns. We were served wonderful breakfasts at Templemacateer with organic, local bacon and sausages and eggs, etc., served in a beautiful dining room that made us feel like royalty. Orla and Bernie were wonderful hosts, and we only wish we'd had more time there.
Truly a memorable stay

I loved the warm welcome we received upon arrival greeted with tea and lovely homemade cake. Host was wonderful sharing the history of this old building and their hopes to make the stay for their guests the best possible.
They have a wonderful canine greeter Prim, a very friendly dog who loved to receive new guests.
The room "Bishops room" was spacious and beautiful with a beautiful view, we were able to peak in to other rooms and each room is decorated according
Riding the the era of the home with beautiful antiques.
The breakfast was exceptional, the presentation perfect using their own free range eggs and they raise their own happy pigs that you can see from the site so bacon and ham was delicious.
Surrounding is lush and absolutely gorgeous, definitely go on a walk (host has a map with information)
There was NOTHING we didn't like!

The breakfast was superb-- especially the rashers / bacon! The owners, Bernie and Declan were extremely nice and welcoming. The house is magnificent and stately. We will be back!

Beautiful old Manor house. Our room was enormous with a beautiful free-standing bath . Breakfast was excellent, and hosts were so welcoming and helpful

My English friends loved it -- reminded them of the grand old houses of their youths. Orla was so sweet, carrying my heavy bag upstairs, building a fire in the drawing room, giving us hot chocolate. My room had the biggest windows I've ever seen in such a home. It's a perfect lovely spot halfway across Ireland.

A gorgeous and atmospheric old house which is reached by driving down a beautiful road lined with trees. We spent one night here as we were attending a local event. Our hosts were so friendly and welcoming. The lovely sitting room with a roaring fire, tea/coffee and homemade cake was so nice before going out. Our room was spacious, elegant and comfortable. Lovely bathroom and lots of hot water. Great breakfast served in the dining room the next morning. Highly recommend this lovely place.
Nothing, all great!

Wonderful welcome from Orla with tea and brownies and the history of this fascinating house. The setting is so calm and peaceful. We loved the character and spaciousness of the house . Having breakfast in the dining room felt like we were in a Jane Austen novel ! Hosts Bernie and Declan were brilliant- welcoming and helpful. Lovely fluffy towels and very comfy bed - views were beautiful and so relaxing. Excellent breakfasts and lots of tea !
Bernie booked us into a local restaurant Brownes on the Green - fantastic meal. ( however avoid the local fish and chip shop ! )
After touring and staying in a busy town - this was the relaxing luxury we needed !
Nothing really - all great

Hosts most obliging even hosting a dinner once! We had a comfortable bedroom and lounge with a wood fire. Hosts kept pigs and chickens so home produced bacon and eggs was a pleasant novelty. Sadly, the imminently pregnant sow did not give birth before we left!
En suite was basic. Hot tap only dribbled. Shower controls and pressure were a bother. No shelves in the en suite was a severe hindrance.

Outstanding cooked breakfast, + a very decent buffet of cold items. We stayed in a large and opulent room, felt like 19th century aristocrats.
The property is far from any decent-sized town, so getting dinner after 8pm nearby can be difficult. Best to come by car, and book your dinner in a nearby village in advance.

Fresh squeezed orange juice, fire built for us in the sitting room each night where we were served tea and brownies. Clean with lots of room. Set up our dinner reservations in town for us.
No complaints, mattress was a bit firm of that is an issue for you.

Amazing country house in a quiet area outside of Moate, and only 20 minutes from Athlone. The owners were friendly and knowledgeable, and cooked up a really nice Irish breakfast featuring products (including veggies, eggs, bacon & sausage) from the surrounding gardens and their own livestock. Tea was served when we arrived, in a cozy lounge next to a roaring fireplace (wood, not turf, as that is being phased out of use). Our room and bathroom were huge -- we were in the Bishop's Tower, a section of the house added on for a visiting bishop. Plenty of dinner options just a few minutes' drive away.
We only booked for one night -- I could have stayed for a week!

A warm welcome from Bernie, and a wonderful breakfast served by Declan. A delightful place to spend the night.
