Beautifully restored 120 year old house and additional Carriage house with beautiful grounds. A rare opportunity to stay in a special historic property that adds to your trip experience; much more than simply a place to spend the night! Centrally located in Chattanooga in the trendy St Elmo Historic District, at the foot of Lookout Mountain.
Private Sherfey Suite (Carriage House 1st floor), with its own entrance, offers historic charm with modern-day amenities. Wonderful, private apartment including one bedroom and full bath. Open kitchen, living, and dining floor plan.
**High quality, fully equipped small kitchen with electric stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator. Small appliances include toaster, mixer, and crockpot. The hospitality center comes equipped with Keurig and a well-stocked variety of coffee, teas and hot chocolate, and related condiments. The basics are kept stocked for your convenience: paper towels, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, foils and plastic wrap, salt and pepper, spices, olive oil, canola oil, sugar and some breakfast items. Chocolates and fresh fruit are always included!
**Beautiful living room with ample seating, dining, games, high speed Wifi, large smart HDTV with Amazon Prime and Netflix - a wonderful gathering space for you to relax and enjoy your visit.

**Separate laundry room with large capacity washer and dryer. Laundry room located in the main house (Bear House). Shared between the Carriage House (Sherfey Suite & Lilly''s Loft) and Stinson Suite in the main house.
Our spacious property offers many opportunities for gathering spaces outdoors. The large old-fashioned front porch, courtyard garden and gazebo are wonderful spots for morning coffee, a special evening meal, or a place to relax in a comfortable chair with a good book. The special garden areas, and larger outdoor seating areas provide additional space for your enjoyment. Be sure to explore the carved bears placed around the property and hear their story! In the spring and summer, help yourself to the blackberries and small vegetable garden. And donât miss the scavenger hunt; over 40 sculptured animals roam the property for you to find.
Our beautiful large property sits on an entire block, front to back, in the charming St Elmo Historic District. There is the majestic main house called Historic Bear House 1890 (6500sqft) that consists of 3 other private apartments. My husband and I reside on the private first floor in the main house. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the main house, through the luscious courtyard, is the Carriage House (1600sqft) with 2 private apartments. With over 25 years experience in the rental property business, we specialize in a broad spectrum of lodging needs, from quick getaways, to out of town family and friends, to corporate rentals and short term rentals. Our stay was even better than we anticipated. I wish we would have planned for a longer trip to enjoy the garden and outdoor area. Everything was very nice and the property had everything we could possibly need. There were snacks and plenty of coffee too. The house is located in a lovely residential area. We really enjoyed our stay!

The property was so cute and charming. The little cute cozy one bedroom we stayed in was perfection. Location to all the attractions, restaurants and the historic downtown Chattanooga area was all within minutes. Close enoyght to all the action but quiet enough to have that cabin/cottage feel of Tennessee. We definitely enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend

Loved everything about the weekend. Bear House 1820 was perfect for the two of us. All the extras were so nice. Coffee ,creamer , sweetener, and snacks. But the shower was my favorite. So relaxing and perfect, after a day of walking. You canât go wrong with this one.

Second time staying here. Bear house is simply perfect. Great location, great hosts. It is a joy to stay here. The grounds are welcoming, with plenty of places to sit and chat with your group, or new friends! Parking is right there. The rooms are always clean, and well stocked with coffee and snacks. Just wish they had a bear house in other cities that we travel to!!!!!

This property is perfect for visiting Chattanooga! We were able to do all the sightseeing on Lookout Mountain and go downtown Chattanooga, both locations within 10 minutes. It made it convenient to stop by between activities and change our clothes or put shopping away. we were able to walk to dinner on our first night and explore the cute area of Saint Elmo. I highly recommend this location for visiting Chattanooga.

The Carriage house was exactly as pictured. Very comfortable and well stocked for our short stay. It was located close to great restaurants and not far to downtown Chattanooga. We enjoyed Ruby Falls and would have explored more but it wouldnât stop raining!!

This place had everything we needed for a 3-night stay. It is small, cozy, and perfect for 2 people. We hiked, biked to the riverwalk path, and ate a few meals all within walking distance.

This was such a great place. Very clean and convenient. I walked to eating and coffee shops. Downtown Chattanooga was very close. I love "old" magazines and there was a stack of them in the LR!! I ate pizza and ice cream and read books for 3 days. Great vacation! I will be back to see the gardens. I want to adopt the owners! Great people!

The host was a really sweet lady, and office person was so friendly. The apt was clean and very well decorated. There were nice touches such as a few snacks and bottled water. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to use them again.

Space very small, reduced no way to cook a meal nothing near for groceries not coming back to that place. We left the property 5 days early đĄđĄ. Hot water not even enough for a shower to many things to list. We not coming back to this place again

I love The Bear House. This is our second time staying here. The Loft and The Shurvey. Both were excellent. I love the owners and the little things that are added in each space to make our stay comfortable - like sound machines, extra rugs so your feet donât get cold, snacks, etc. The owners are so sweet and friendly. We will be back again!

My husband and I stayed in the "Sherfey Suite", which is the first floor of the carriage house, while visiting my sister and her family who live on Lookout Mountain. This was my third stay at the Bear House, which is always a wonderful visit. Clean, safe, well-decorated .... and that cute garden! Beautiful job, Steve and Sharman Sherfey, on all the years of taking great care of your guests.

I came to Chattanooga for a quick getaway from Atlanta. The Sherfey Suite was the perfect size for me and I really, really appreciated that it had a full kitchen (with spices!). The suite is a little quirky, but very clean and would be spacious for one or two people. It's literally at the base of Lookout Mountain, there are restaurants and attractions in walking distance and it's less than 10 minutes to get to downtown Chattanooga.
If you have difficulties with stairs or movement or balance, you may not want to stay in the Sherfey Suite - the shower/tub is raised nearly a foot off the floor and it might be very tricky to get in and out of if you aren't physically stable. (But I hope you'd find another suite that suits you at the Bear House - it really is so charming, and such a nice place to stay.)
Had a great time, will definitely recommend to my friends and would love to come back again!

This cozy carriage house one bedroom was everything we needed. The location was ideal, within walking distance to restaurants. The carriage house was neat and clean and looked just as advertised. It was well equipped with everything we could need a more. We would definitely stay here again.

The cottage was just as pictured on line with beautiful setting areas outside... The cottage had lots of detailed "extras" that made the stay very comfortable. We could hear the guests above us walking around if we were inside during the day but at night .. when sleeping we didnt hear anything.. would definitely stay here again!

While the Carriage House was small, it was clean, well designed, beautifully decorated and was full of nice amenities. Within walking distance to St. Elmo's district businesses and the Incline Railway. A short drive to Rock City and Ruby Falls. The outdoor gardens are amazing.

Very clean, comfortable bed, good water pressure in the shower, quiet location...all the basics in place. Additionally I found this small apartment to be well stocked and supplied with "extras" including plenty of good coffee, and special snacks. There were nice toiletries from Good Fortune Soap Co. As a woman traveling alone, I liked the safe feel of the place as it is located in the backyard of a large family home. The owner lives on the property and check in was easy. My five year old granddaughter, who lives nearby, visited and really enjoyed exploring the large yard with surprises sprinkled throughout. She especialy liked the Treasure Cove with all its hidden "jewels". This seems to be an experienced host who has thought to provide such extras as a step stool for the kitchen and a white noise machine for the bedroom. Though it does contain a full kitchen, it is tiny with limited counter space so that might be an issue if you need to do a lot of cooking. It was more that adequate for my simple meals. Thanks for a wonderful stay. I would definitely stay again. Five Stars!
