I had to leave at 1:30a because I had a 4:10a flight but the dinner at the restaurant next to the hotel was wonderful, just had chicken soup - the wine was sub-par but I wouldn't expect better as it was the house wine.
When I tried to leave at 1:30a, the hotel was locked down, so I tried to open up the gate so I could get a cab to the airport. A security guard came up to me and shortly thereafter, hotel staff to check me out. I have traveled for 50+ years and for some reason, the hotel staff needed to go up and check my room (this has never happened before) - she came down with a white towel that had a stain on it, likely because I got stuck in a rainstorm for over an hour, my purse and all my clothes were soaked, so I tried to dry my purse on a towel. She insisted I get charged $10 for cleaning the towel -- I agreed reluctantly, thinking "Extortion!!!!" and asked to take the towel with me since I'd obviously paid for it -- she would not give it to me, I paid the charge but felt horrible thinking that both staff members were in on the scam as was the security guard since he would not let me leave without my room being inspected. Great hotel for the price, just a very very unfortunate incident that tainted my last day in Ecuador. Total Extortion. No other explanation as who inspects your room before you can check out???

My flights from Ft. Lauderdale always land in the middle of the night so the first time I stayed at the airport Hilton for $100/night but the last 4 trips I've stayed at the Alexander which I found through booking.com. It's a quick cab ride away in the middle of the city and the staff has always been extremely helpful. polite and accommodating. The rooms and hotel are neat, clean and comfortable and all that for about a fifth of what I would pay at the Hilton. I think the Alexander was a great find and will always be my landing spot when flying to Guayaquil n these late night flights.

My Flight out of Ecuador was at 11:50pm ( Red Eye Flight ) - I checked out of my 5 Star hotel at 12noon - I just needed a room to spend 6 to 7 hours - A Room with AC and Wifi - I was happy
Location is not that good

Affordable - value for money.
Clean with no musty no fungus no cockroach place.
Clean bed sheets and they give you CLEAN LAUNDRY Blanket when requested.
Every staff member is super cute polite and nice - Hullio ( sorry if i spelt it wrong) Daniel, Carla ( her wake up call is so nice) and she is so accurate and organized, Im forgetting another super sweet girl name that helped me print my plane tickets and itinerary. ( Sorry).
Well, every one helped me print so many of my papers -PCR TEST RESULTS and Plane tickets and they helped me get my PCR TEST RESULTS by calling so many places. Not to forget the Super kind and helping beautiful Crystal - from Reservations, she was always there to resolve my every issue, ( nice English) she even walked me to the taxi and negotiated the fare- haha.
The Malecon - downtown is just walkable distance and famous El Pez Volador restaurant ( Anthony Bourdain) is near by - go and have nice breakfast and lunch, remember they close at 3 pm thats it. ( No dinner)
The area gets sketchy a bit at night so don't walk, just take taxis ( pretty cheap) Happy travels, Safe travels.
Yes- the hotel also arranges a personal safe car to go to the Airport ( 5$) and the driver comes with a huge van and he is super nice too. I went with him twice to the airport at 1 am and 3 am for 2 days ( courtesy nasty COPA airlines, they are a pain in the A$$)
The area as i said is a bit sketchy at night, which i mentioned above. Just take taxis and let the hotel call the taxi for you.
