The attic room was beautiful lovely wooden features, big tv and comfortable bed.
Low beam in bedroom, not the room to stay in if you tall.
4.0
Friendly village pub setting. Good breakfast.
4.5
Staff were lovely, very welcoming and bent over backwards to be helpful.
We had a very comfortable night, and a great sleep. Although the accommodation is over a pub, it was very quiet. It was also immaculately clean, and the food was great.
Couldn't really find fault. It could probably do with a lick of paint, but given the very reasonable price we weren't expecting 5*facilities.

Great little place to stay with rooms above a cosy village pub with a great community atmosphere and in a lovely residential area of Durham. Snug double room with ensuite. Very comfortable bed and pillows with white linen. Hot power shower. Good quality teabags in room. Hot cooked breakfast and evening menu available. Friendly and polite staff available at all times should you need them. Parking is available and free off road. Close to Durham City. Other pubs and country walks nearby. Great value for money. Visiting parents with kids at uni might like as near many colleges. Another bonus - it is genuinely dog friendly.
3.5
Ideal location for our needs. Plenty of free car parking either in the adjacent car park or on street. Friendly and accommodating staff. Tasty and enjoyable breakfast. Good value for money.
Whilst it is personal choice, we found the bed to be overly soft. We are more used to sleeping with a mid to firm mattress. On the upper floor, the dividing walls between rooms are very thin and not well insulated against noise. The couple in the adjoining room wdere doing nothing more than talking but their voices carried through the party wall.

The Avenue is an excellent place to stay, with breakfast included at an exceptional rock. The friendly staff make the bar, food and accommodation 1st class.
Food, staff friendliness, lovely bar, location

Was asked what time we wanted breakfast when we arrived. Then next morning everywhere was locked up and we could only exit the property. Waited for 45 minutes to see if someone arrived. They did not. Asked them directly for a refund. Got no reply. Very poor experience.

Pricey for what it is- I'd have expected to pay well under £100 not £108

The rooms are dated a bit but clean, the bed and pillows were amazing. Peter and Karen were excellent hosts, very help full. Breakfast was nice and everything pipping hot. When into Durham but returned to The Avenue on the night because they had a group on which were excellent. Bus stop right outside on £2 to Durham 5 mins on bus. Would definitely stay again

Convenient location for us. Very nice breakfast.
Lots of stairs - no lift. Very low beams in room.
4.5
Given that The Avenue was an old style English country pub the twin room overlooking the back of the hotel was very clean and tidy and well furnished. We only stayed one night but be happy to stay there again and sample their "pub grub".
4.5
Great location just 10 minute drive to centre or you can get the bus across the road that are every 10 minutes. Room was spotless and cozy and breakfast was full English which set great and set us up for the day. Lots of places to see and great restaurants, will definitely return to The Avenue when we fancy another trip to Durham.

Comfy beds, great food and friendly staff. Room clean and had everything we needed
Tricky negotiating the beams in the room especially when getting in and out of bed. Not much room between the wall and side of bed on one side.
