About this house rental
Still Waters Getaway is located in the Beachwood West community and is perfectly situated on a 2.5 acre wooded setting in a quiet, deep water cove of Smith Mountain Lake between channel marker R31 and R32. The perfect place to enjoy all the water sport activities on the lake, or a quiet swim right down the hill at the dock. A gently sloped walk leads to the water's edge featuring stationary dock with party deck and bar area. You can enjoy the sun, fish, or jump off the top part of the dock and swim around without being bothered by boat traffic, noise, or wakes. A canoe, and 3 kayaks are also available for you to enjoy. Great game room with pool table and video arcade are available to round out the day, this home equipped for a fun filled family vacation. We are close to Bridgewater Plaza where there are numerous stores, restaurants, and night time entertainment. There are several places close by to rent boats, personal watercraft, and tubes. Come create your great vacation memories. Don’t forget you can bring the dog!
There are 3 bedrooms, sleep sofa, a 4th sleeping area in the basement, and 3 Baths. All linens - sheets, pillows and pillow cases, and bath towel sets are included.
The entry level features the kitchen and living room/dining room area with a flat screen TV. Doors leading to a deck overlooking the lake where you can enjoy a meal on the deck, maybe something special from the grill, or just sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Also on the entry level, a bedroom(with a Roku tv) with a king size bed, and a full bath await you.
Up one flight of stairs brings you to the loft which overlooks the entry level living area. On this level you will find the 2 additional bedrooms(with Roku tvs) with queen size beds, one with access to its own private balcony with fantastic views. Also on this floor will be the second full bathroom.
On the lower level you'll find the 4th sleeping area, this includes 2 twin day beds, each with a twin trundle bed that can be rolled out and positioned where needed, for a total of 4 twins. The third full bathroom can also be found on this level. The remaining lower level areas are all fun and games and features a pool table, full sized 2 player arcade game(3000+ games), flat screen TV, and wet bar area. There is a wet bar features a full size fridge w/ ice maker, microwave, coffee maker and additional seating. You will also find a full-sized washer and dryer for your convenience. A sleep sofa can also be found in the game room. Exit the game room to the lower level covered deck and terrace to enjoy additional lake view or have a swing.
The gently sloped path leads to the water's edge featuring stationary dock, upper party deck, and lower bar(w/ fridge) area with porch swing and hammock. We also have floating dock at the water lever to allow easy access to the water for the canoe and kayaks. At the dock - swimming is great, deep water(15-20 feet at the end of our dock) in a secluded cove - no wake zone! You can enjoy the sun, fish, or jump off the top part of the dock and swim around without being bothered by boat traffic, noise, or wakes. A canoe and 3 kayaks(2 single and 1 double) are also available for you to enjoy. We are close to Bridgewater Plaza where there are numerous stores, restaurants, and nighttime entertainment. There are several places close by to rent boats, personal watercraft, and tubes.
To the right of our main dock complex you'll see an additional swim platform and 3-slip dock area, this is shared with a couple neighbors and is something you have access to as well. Our slip is closest to the shore line with the jet ski lift. While there is plenty of room to tie up your boat to our main dock(the boat lift is not available for guest usage), you have access to this slip if needed - we just ask that you don't tie up anything to the floating swim platform, you are welcome to tie up to the floating dock attached to our main dock.
Upon your arrival you'll find starter items...toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags, laundry detergent, dish detergent, hand soap, and kitchen towels to get you started for your week.
Bath towel sets are included for 10 persons - please do not use down at that lake. Bed linens are provided as well.
WIFI included.
Just also wanted to add a note about our driveway. If you read some of the reviews, the one negative comment we get is about the driveway. We are in the mountains, the word "mountain" is in the name, so yes, our driveway may be steep, but our home is closer to the water. We have a mini-van and have no problems with the driveway. Again, on the plus side, since our home is closer to the water, the walk from the house to the dock is shorter and less steep. Our neighbors on the other hand...their home is at the top of the hill, easy driveway, but have a long, steep walk to the water. If you were to compare our home to others in the area, I think being closer to the water with less steps far out weighs any negatives related to driveway. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please reach out, I'm more than happy to discuss.

Guests had a wonderful time fishing, enjoying the grandchildren, and exploring various activities like kayaking and jumping off the deck. The property is spacious with great amenities, making it a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Very nice stay. Spacious (for 4), clean and great location. Wonderful dock (rented a pontoon boat), kayaks provided, and updated kitchen and bathroom. Could use new mattresses, but overall, sweet.

Just finished a great week at this property. Our group included my husband and me, our 26-year-old son, our 21-year-old son and his girlfriend, and our two dogs (first time bringing them to the lake). It was perfect for us. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped and had newer appliances. The large dining table was great for eating and evening games. The extra fridge downstairs was great for drinks. Though we didn’t use the pool table much or the arcade games at all, they are a nice addition in the basement. Beds were comfortable. As others have said, the driveway is no joke. But the parking loop makes it infinitely easier to maneuver. We had no problem with our Suburban, even with two other cars parked there. There are a lot of stairs down to the dock, but it’s not as steep as some properties we’ve stayed at. It does get a little slippery after rain, but there are railings all the way down. Dock was spacious. Extra floater was nice, although we didn’t have access to it much as the renters next door had stuff tied to it off and on all week. There is a ladder to get from the upper dock to the lower dock, so beware of that if anyone in your party has mobility issues. The dock has ample seating, a hammock, a swing, lights, and electricity. There’s also a fridge and a bar area. Everything you could need. Location is about 20 minutes driving from Food Lion, the trash/recycling place, and the marina. We would rent again!

The house is comfortable and clean, probably the cleanest vacation house I’ve ever seen. The dock is perfect with lots of room including space under roof with shade. The cove is quiet, perfect for swimming. We rented a pontoon boat and were able to dock it at the floating dock easily. There are a lot of stairs to the dock but they are wide & sturdy & lighted at night. The driveway is steep but the turn around at the bottom is helpful. We had no trouble in a Chevy Traverse. Kitchen is well stocked, appliances & grill are newer. We cooked all of our meals and had everything we needed. 3 fridges & washer and dryer were a nice convenience. It was HOT outside all week and the AC kept up nicely. The basement area was perfect for our 3 teenage boys. We spent a lot of time playing the arcade game and even set a new high score! The trash drop off was new for us but the place listed by the property manager was convenient. I do wish there was a secure place to keep trash outside until you are ready to take it away. We will be back for sure!

I booked this lake house for a family reunion and it was fantastic! Everyone loved the property, especially relaxing on the dock by the lake. My favorite relaxation time was before everyone woke up with a cup of coffee on the sun deck. We spent plenty of time by the water but also enjoyed the other amenities, particularly the game room and the deck with the grill. Owner was quick to respond to any inquiry. I would definitely book another stay at this property in the future!

Had a wonderful time fishing off the dock with our grandchildren. When we arrived the grill was inoperable and the owner was great in allowing us to pick up a replacement and reimbursing us in a timely fashion. The driveway is steep but doable and even easier if you use the circle as posted. I wouldn’t try a trailer there though. Kids enjoyed jumping off the upper deck and we all loved the use of the boathouse and kayaks. If I had one complaint it would be the beds. We prefer firm support and the beds all have spring mattresses that are either worn out or just poor quality. I was happy to get home to better nights sleep. All in all it’s very spacious to give everyone their own space. Love the 3 levels and 3 fridges counting the boathouse! Thanks for memories I wouldn’t trade for anything!

My son likes to get away with 3 of his school friends each year for his birthday. They are 15 now. This place was PERFECR! They all slept on the lower level and had their own space. Master bedroom on 1st floor was great for me to keep an eye on them amd hear what they were doing :). The lower level had a pool table and arcade game that played over 100.classic 80s and 90s arcade games. Grill might need replacing soon but worked fine for us. House was stocked with linens and towels. House is recently renovated. New appliances. AC/Heat worked great and we had to use both. Kitchen os well stocked. Make sure you bring food to cook or you are driving 20 minutes to go eat. We cooked breakfast and lunch and ate dinner out. They boys fished a lot and gpt a kick out of jumping off the double decker dock. Water is deep below the dock. More than 10 feet. Plenty of personal boats and life preservers for 4 of them. Wish the outlets there didnt work (one of the boys bought a powered speaker that was super loud and i am sure annoyed the neighbors before i got him to turn it down). But great for charging phones. There is a bar on the dock for adults. Firepit. Easy to scrounge up kindling. I only slept in thr master king size bed. It was comfortable. Boys managed to figure out sleeping 4 in the lower level which also had a full kitchen and bath. The driveway freaks you out the first time but a Honda Odyssey had no problems navigating. Super clean. 5 stars

The property was amazing wish we had more time, house was very clean. The dock side is beautiful. House is very well laid out and plenty of room.

We have stayed here several times on spring break to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. Is the perfect dock for hanging out with friends and family, and the teens love the pool table and their own space downstairs, the adults love the big table upstairs to play cards. Owners have updated the main bathroom and the basement since we stayed there last, which is really nice.

Just what we needed to get away and enjoy the peaceful lake vibe. The weather was perfect, cool on the morning and warmed up by lunch. The double decker dock was amazing. Lots of steps to the dock but not an issue for our young family.
The driveway was difficult but after reading other reviews I was prepared. Honda Pilot was able to maneuver without difficulty.
Lots of games to play and great TV to watch movies at night. Fully functional kitchen to cook all meals.
We would most definitely make a return visit.

We had a brief stay with family. The place is very clean, and quiet. The decks look nice, but weather prevented us from taking advantage of the lake.

The place was perfect once you past the steep driveway. It was a little difficult for us in a Ford Transit-350. The kids enjoyed the playroom. It was very.l nice home for us and the 6 kids to be together and also apart if they wanted space. Would recommend this place.

Wonderful lakeside, wooded retreat. Clean, easy to find everything we needed and the kitchen had all the utensils we needed to be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.

Nice place to stay on the lake. Fit our needs perfectly. Party deck was great place to hang out and chat! Lots of outdoor area to relax from the swings to the fire pit to the party deck. A leaf blower would have been a good amenity as we visited in the fall and the driveway and patio area were covered with leaves. Other than that, great place to stay in the lake!

A perfect house for a warm fall weekend. The views were colorful. We especially enjoyed the spacious deck, table and grill. The boat dock and deck provided a hammock and kayaks and water toys. We rented a boat and we’re able to pull in and out with ease. The kitchen was well equipped utensil and plate wise with basic bowls and cooking pans. 3 couples and a solo single had plenty of space. This is a beautiful home and the owner has made it guest ready!! We certainly plan to come back again!!!

Very peaceful and relaxing. Plenty of wildlife to watch. Definitely a place to rent for extended periods. I do suggest compact vehicles with 4WD. Turn in driveway was a little tight for my full cab Toyota. Bedrooms and bathrooms are updated. Kitchen is nice. It's the outdoor space that steals the show.

Just looking for a place close to caverns, but it was so much more. Every moring drinking coffee on the amazing dock over the lake. Anticipating deer every afternoon and evening. Fire in the firepit every night. Then ending the nights playing pool and playing games. Definitely accomodating for a wide range of ages.
Owner was very nice and quick to answer all questions. Property was very well equipped. Could not have been an easier check in as well as check out.
Planning our next visit for warmer weather to take full advantage of the lake.
Definitely would recommend for a family, girls or guys trip!

This is the second time we've stayed at this property and loved it just as much as the first. It is very private and on a quiet cove. The only "complaint" is the driveway is very steep near the house, which the listing does mention, so be careful is your vehicle is low to the ground. The house is comfortable and the layout is great whether you are going with family or friends. In the future, we wouldn't hesitate to look here first for availability.

The lake house was beautiful! It is nestled in the woods and has very detailed photos of the dock as well as the lake inside. I found it charming. The driveway is a bit steep but makes the access to the lake so much easier. We were there with our grown son, daughter and her husband and our two young granddaughters! We did a lot of swimming in the cove and kayaking! Our son-in-law had a lot of fun jumping from the top deck into the lake. We had a great time with jet skis we rented from Bridgewater Marina and a pontoon boat from Pirate Cove. The host was wonderful to work with and replied very quickly to any questions before and during our trip. We would definitely stay again!

This is our 3rd year at SML and our 3rd rental. The dock far surpasses every other place we have stayed. Tons of space for seating and to store everything you bring so you don’t need to trek it up and down the stairs. Yes the driveway is slightly precarious and there are stairs to the lake but this is a given for the area. If you have anyone with mobility issues, do your research on the rental you choose. This was nothing our group couldn’t handle, including two children. The house has everything you need and the rooms were spacious and accommodating. The trash situation is what it is. We have had to carry our trash out before but it would be helpful to have an outdoor place (locked shed or storage bin?) to store it in until your make the 20 min drive to dump it. Otherwise you just have bags of trash hanging in the kitchen which isn’t ideal. The cookware is a bit of a mish mash but we did find everything we needed. We loved the microwave! Kids loved the downstairs and arcade. Overall a great stay and we would recommend!!!

It was everything we needed and was looking for in a vacation home. We loved everyday of it regardless of the rain. The downstairs was a vacation saver for my grandsons, it rained everyday, but they were entertained and had the best time playing pool, the arcade games and having their very own kitchenette. It was the best!! We are definitely coming back again next year to make more memories....Thank you so much.

We had a great time at this cabin. The owner was kind enough to allow us to bring our dogs which we were very thankful for as we never leave them. What a gorgeous, tranquil location! My boys love to fish so this property was perfect. They fished non-stop. The sun deck is amazing! We kayaked, fished, cooked tons of gourmet food as my sons a chef, grilled out, played games and hated to leave. The cabin was nice, plenty of room for all 7 of us and our dogs. The listing wasn't accurate though. There is 1 useable adult kayak, a canoe and a child size kayak. My son brought his two, so we made it work. I don't recommend this place for the elderly or anyone who has issues with walking up and down steep hills, with bad knees or anyone afraid of steep driveways. It worked for us. If there was a fenced area for the dogs it would have been perfect. Needs a deep clean of carpets though and the mattress on the sleeper replaced. Well stocked, otherwise, a great stay! Would stay again.

Our second time staying here on spring break. Plenty of room inside for family. Lots of fun out at the dock. Caught some fish. Renovated dock looks nice. We were sad to see the paddle boat was not here and one kayak not able to use. But enjoyed the other two kayaks and canoe. Host answered us promptly when we messaged. We had a great time. Appreciated early check-in and late check-out.

We had a great time at this house on Smith Mountain Lake. The house is very well set up for friends and family to spread out and enjoy themselves in a number of ways. The views, decks, chairs, and even boats offer lots of options for reveling in the location. The downstairs rec room is bonus and perfect for a teen hideout. The kitchen is well provisioned and the great room/dining room is comfortable. The only thing is having to take the trash 20 minutes away to the convenience center; not an unprecedented or unreasonable request, but not convenient, especially if you don't have room in your car for the garbage. Also odd that there are no outside cans to store your trash until you're ready to make that dump run. Other than that one thing, though, this is a great place to stay.

Stayed Oct.30-Nov 5
First a few days after the 100% refund deadline, Chris sent a message saying I needed to pay $75 more because he changed cleaning services, an agreement had already been made, a contract if you will, and I had already 100% paid. He did not offer to fully refund if I canceled, only said "he understands if I want to cancel." If i was to cancel I'd get only 50% back. So I was displeased with the breach of contract and there were no other properties available fitting my needs at this point. I understand the other reviews about cleanliness, as the house had a grime feel, this is closer to a frat party house than clean family vacation to me. The paddle boat was broken, the microwave dish was scorched and broken hidden in the trash pantry,so the microwave was unusable. There is no where to put trash at all, not even an outside bin for storage till you have to haul it 20 minutes to the trash place. That is incredibly inconvenient and disgusting. As well as one of the kayaks back top plug does not seal so we had to stop on someone's dock and empty the kayak of water. It was all decent, but won't stay here again.

Everything was as described. Kitchen was pretty stocked which was great for Thanksgiving (there’s a picture with a Keurig but there isn’t one - and it’s not on the list of appliances included so that was on me). Some items could be updated (main floor bathroom and carpets, though we actually really dug the upstairs green - it’s pretty amazing). The bunk room was great for our college kids. Loved the convenience of the basement fridge. Firepit was great. As described, we needed to get firewood but just ran over to Food Lion for it. We foraged for sticks and branches to help with the fire.
Yes the driveway is steep. But that saved us a ton of steps down to the firepit and water. The walk down is a bit slippery. We had one person fall at the step with the stone but there are rakes to clear leaves and acorns to help.
Plenty of parking if you’re smart (we had 6 cars at one point and it was no trouble). That “parking loop” is no joke (try not to do it in the dark for the first time).
We rented a pontoon boat at Bridgewater marina which was very convenient - it was great to be able to dock it at the property for the stay.
We really had an amazing time. I can only imagine how fun it is in-season.

Perfect place for our group, had a great time. Need to come back in the spring/summer!

Chris was flexible to work with and communicative. We loved the large dock with many water activities such as kayaks. Be aware one was taking on some water, so if you are going to use them check closer to the dock first. There was ample space for a larger group and plenty of beds, seating. Give yourself some time on the last day to gather the trash to be taken to the dump. We carpooled, so with a packed car, we needed to make an additional trip to accommodate this request. Chris and cleaning crew were great at giving us a little extra check out time so we could get it done. Appreciated Chris being quick with communication. Loved having linens included.

We will stay again at Smith Mountai. But next time we will stay closer to the water. Way too many steps down to the water and the driveway was redictuliosly steep. However, the house slept all of us perfectly.

We had a wonderful get away. It was simple to stay entertained on the water and relaxing all at the same time! I have to also note that the neighbors that we bumped in to where also very friendly. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future.

Fun in the sun at SML
Plenty of room and nice lower dock. Upper dock is getting in bad condition. The driveway is steep and inconvenient if there is more than 2 vehicles. The air conditioner intake and bathroom vents need cleaning. The steps to the lake are nice and not as many as other properties . Kitchen is spacious enough for cooking. I did a lot of cooking. I wished there had measuring utensils and pans that were in better condition. A couple of the doors, upstairs bedroom and downstairs bathroom have hinge problems. We had a nice stay , the house just needs some upgrades. Our dryer was broken when we got there, but it was fixed by Wednesday.

Property not cleaned and in filthy condition - especially the bedding
We had a terrible experience at this property. The owner agreed on June 19,2022 (the day after our check in) to refund the cleaning fee, and he has not followed through on this as of July 11th, 2022. The owner also agreed to refund $400 for the labor that I had to put in on our first day of vacation to clean the property. This also has not been refunded. The owner agreed on June 9th to refund the pet fee since we chose not to bring our dog, and this has also not been refunded.
The biggest cleanliness issues were that the bedding was not clean and the bathroom floors had urine and pubic hairs that had to be cleaned up.
Mattress pads in both the master and upstairs queen bed had obvious body fluid staining. The one on the master bed had a diameter of 12 inches - so should clearly have been replaced. The quilt upstairs had blood stains and I sent detailed pictures to the owner.
Both shower curtains were pink with mold and needed to be replaced.
The bottom bedroom had a nest of spiders above the bunk and it was to the point that both of my boys refused to sleep on the top bunk. About 8 Ceiling tiles in the basement are stained with leakage of some sort.
The owner has acknowledged that the cleaning service is sub-par. To refund only the cleaning fee when I had to spend 5 hours laundering all of the quilts and bedding the first day was not satisfactory.
I spent an hour on the phone with VRBO the day that after we checked in because of the filthy conditions. After VRBO contacted the owner, he agreed to send new mattress pads to replace the stained ones, and new shower curtains to replace the pink molded ones.
I have since reached out to VRBO because the owner has refused to refund what he promised, and VRBO has called the owner multiple times while I am on the phone without success. At this point VRBO has advised me to reach out to my bank to file a complaint.
I am a teacher and my family saves carefully to be able to go on a vacation in the summer. This holiday was the end of another difficult Covid teaching year, and it was extremely disheartening to begin our holiday in filthy conditions that required many hours to clean. We checked out a day early, and would have left immediately if we didn't have a boat rental that couldn't be cancelled.
If you like a clean property, then this one should be avoided until the cleaning issues are sorted.

IT DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER
We booked this house a year ago after reading the reviews and looking at the pictures and were very excited and couldn’t wait to get there. Well the week is over and we had a great time. We brought our boat which was nice but we had a great time swimming around the dock. The rope swing was fun. The water is nice and deep. They have kayaks canoes and a paddle boat to use. Pretty cool.
We cooked on the grill and ate out on the deck a few times. The pool table was a plus. I love Smith Mountain Lake. Thank you Chris for making your home available. We look forward to coming back next year.
PS. Love the trees and the wild life.

We loved our stay
Great property and location. The dock is a nice extra . . . My son was super excited when he seen the rope swing on the dock. Very quiet wooded lot. The driveway was a lil steep if ur wanting to park ur boat trailer but thats to be expected to be right on the water. We will definitely be back!

Spring Break
We chose this property for the outdoor activities. We enjoyed the dock, swings, hammock, fire pit, kayaks (2 adult and 1 youth), canoe and paddle boat. Everything was in fine working order outside, quiet area, and well maintained considering it’s a wooded area. We did not get to use the grill. One propane tank was empty and one only had enough in it for us to spend 10 min cleaning the grill, then it went out. We did not have time to drive to food lion to exchange the tanks, so we made burgers inside. The house itself was fine. Cleaning crew could do better- crumbs on the table and in a few chairs, cobwebs hanging from ceiling in several rooms in the house. The downstairs rooms stayed cold this time of year even with the heat on at night. So future guests should put cold natured humans upstairs. The toilet downstairs clogs easily, chain kept coming off hook on main level toilet, easy fix but annoying. There is plenty of space for families to hang out. Loved the large dining table that fit 10 people. Owner was easy to reach and answered questions quickly. Boat rental Parrot Cove was a 15 min drive and 10 min boat ride. Food Lion, Subway, Lago pizza and Coffee Shop quick 10 min drive in same shopping center. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would rent again.

Weekend Away
Well, I have to admit that when I booked this house for our Spring Break weekend getaway I was looking forward to using all the awesome equipment for the lake but Mother Nature had other plans that turned out even better. This awesome house offered a beautiful view of falling snow and a quiet place to spend time with the ones I love most! I would HIGHLY recommend this property! BEAUTIFUL!

Our stay
It was a little tough getting out the last day because of snow , but it all worked out ,it would have been nice to have a number to call for someone to clear driveway of snow should you choose ,, at least have a choice, The other downfall I would say is having to bring ur own linens ,, what a pain !!! Took up room in car which could have been used for other things to bring , last vrbo we stayed the cleaning person took care of that , we just left them all in one pile by washer , other than that , everything else was provided and then some , not sure I would stay again because of linen situation , but other than that I would reccomend
