We paid to upgrade our room to Deluxe Twin room, it was comfortable, spacious , a stylish room with wood panels and natural colors. Mr. Frankie kindly brought us to the room to make sure that we're happy with our choice of room upgrade.
The Jade River and Hongtu Hall restaurants offer delicious dim sum and exquisite cantonese cuisine. Also, we felt special and delightful as we're greeted by the master chef from Jade River restaurant and he offered a complimentary fruit platter to us.
Staffs at concierge were very helpful in giving information to go around the nearby areas, assisted us to make booking of online musuem tickets and train tickets.
The location on historic Shamian island is truly an oasis of tranquility amid the hustle n bustle of the city.

Au cœur de l'Ile de shamian. Emplacement calme et très agréable. Chambres spacieuses

It’s really great, just like you’d expect. It’s a bit pricey and for the same amount of money you could get a bigger room somewhere else but the whole is just so nice than it’s no big deal.
Id rather have a smaller room and nice facilities/awesome staff and services than a bigger room.
Location is really great, it’s a bit outside of the buzzing city that can be overwhelming at some point so it’s really comfortable.

Everything was amazing. The Michelin Star restaurants are super yummy and not pricey at all.
Room was very quiet.

the buffet breakfast was amazing and the price is reasonable. the lunch/the yumcha is a little bit pricy but still attracts many tourists and the locals as well. The environment is fabulous with waterfall, fish and Bush and the museum exhibitions are unforgettable with too many priceless items like ivory and jade engraving arts.

Room was good, location is also perfect
Breakfast was way overrated. Nothing wrong, but also nothing special. Standard hotel buffe. Air-conditioning is pretty loud :(

We had a wonderful stay. All of the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. We loved all of the personal little touches and how everything was good quality. Excellent breakfast, coffee and afternoon tea.

Pretty much everything. We liked the spacious room and the river view. The bathroom was big and I loved the vegetarian toiletery of ETRO. Lovely scent on me whole day. We got the room upgraded and a cake delivered for bday. Very appreciated..! My husband enjoyed the pool and sauna. By the way the best thing is the location. Walking distance from the metro station and it's right on the center on the island. You can easily walk around everywhere.
We had a club access but I don't think it was that worth it except we didn't need to wait to check in or have beeakfast in a chaos with bunch of others. (They have a bigger buffet though) They can improve the menu for the club lounge, tea time and breakfast. all of it. The English ability of the staffs was disappointing as usual just like in any other hotels in China. We were expecting it better since it's 5 star hotel. It was good enough to get everything you need. The hotel is well taken care of but old. Hope you get rid of the carpets and old warn out fabric furniture when renovating. They are just not very hygiene and keep the space dusty and smelly. In-room ordering food looked very pricey. We could have ordered some snack and drinks if it was reasonable. There are mostly Chinese restaurants around, so it will be nice if you run a proper western restaurant in the hotel. Also with a vegetarian menu option. As a vegan, there was absolutely nothing to have at those 3 restaurants available in the hotel atm. Sad. Plus the TV channels should add more in English. Only few were on. Shame when there re 3 TVs in the room. (Bring your laptop and HDMI cable!)

We liked the comfort, the service, and the location on Shamien Island. Having the club lounge access was a nice treat away from the crowds. Being able to have the concierge at the club lounge make dinner and lunch reservations for the hotel restaurants at short notice was a nice plus. The staff at the club lounge were excellent and so was their English. The dinner at the Tastes of China (I can't remember the exact name) was delicious, as well as the dim sum, both of which we had to pay extra. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Fruit in the room is a nice touch.
The food at the club lounge was very disappointing especially at the prices we paid for. The lounges at other hotels we have stayed at (the Hyatt) were much better. The breakfast was also disappointing at the club lounge and the Riverfront. For the price that we paid to stay 3 nights, one would expect better food with more variety at the club lounge as well as the River Front. This is definitely a Chinese hotel, albeit it a luxurious one. We are used to better food service at these prices... our server didn't know how to pour a craft beer at the Michelin rated restaurant and when we tried to stop her, it took her a while before she understood. The tea charge was per person instead of per pot for dinner.
The pool requires guests to wear swimming caps, even when guests are not putting their heads under water. Many Western hotels at this price point don't have such restrictions. Again, at the price we are paying for, the hotel should just make sure to clean the pool more frequently instead of inconveniencing hotel guests.
Hotels seem to have this annoying trend of the TV automatically blasting some music and marketing the moment you walk into the room, and there's nothing to tell us how to stop it or turn it off short of unplugging the TV. Again, at these prices, some peace and quiet seem to be not too much to ask.
Limited restaurant options for dinner (perhaps due to Covid?)

Good level of English from welcoming staff. The masseuse in the Spa was top-notch. Excellent. The view of the river from the room was nice. The size of the room was generous and comfortable. The room service food was prompt and tasty. Lovely fountain design in centre of hotel. Great antique/Chinese goods shops on the lower floor. Taxi order in advance service.
The room smelled musty.
I was woken by noise at 4 30am 4.49 5.03. Not city noise (at back of hotel near river) or person noise. Electrical beeping or whirring sound. Maybe there is a generator in or near the room? It sounded like a fridge going on and off. The beeping was muffled but still audible. I left the room at 5.57 and the noise started again.
The shower lever did not work. Bath only.
No iron - I had to ask - took time - I was in a hurry.
No hair-dryer in room.
Booking.com states all rooms have irons, ironing boards and hair-dryers. If this is wrong, please contact Booking. Com. (This is the second time I stayed at White Swan Hotel. I had a more expensive room last time and there was no iron in that room either! I was too tired to call reception that time).
At 5.30pm someone knocked on the door 3 times. I did not answer because I was in the bath. Then a person, I think staff, called loudly. I did not answer. Very intrusive. Clearly, I did not want to answer. People do sleep or use the bathrooms in hotels! If it was an emergency - the reception staff would let me know. Please do not keep calling a customer through the door. If they wanted the iron back - I still needed it.

We booked the Club Package for my husband’s birthday and it was such a treat to enjoy the benefits. All the staff at the Club Lounge were super friendly, helpful and sweet. They recommended fab vegetarian restaurants close to the hotel and also made a vegan cake for us. Loved the view from our room, especially at night and the room was really spacious. Bed was amazing!! Special thank you to the following staff who made our stay extra special: Cecilia Huang, Stella, Xu X Y, Mivva, Nicole, Dana, Hans and Jadyn!!! You guys are awesome!!!
The pool was extremely busy so we did not get a chance to enjoy.

We love the charm of Shamian Island, walk by the gardens, near by Pearl River, and the swimming pool is amazing for kids.
The price of the breakfast is too much.
