About this cottage rental
Warm, relaxing and homely are some of the descriptions used by people who stayed at Albion Cottage. Inside, it is newly renovated in 2024 and outside it is surrounded by an array of flowering plants and a variety of birds and butterflies. You can enjoy a beautiful garden and be just a short walk (20 minutes, 3.8 km) from all central city cafes, restaurants and shops.
Five minutes walk from our cottage is a Countdown (Woolworths) Supermarket, Bakery, Alto cafe, Tasse Cafe, Chinese Takeaways, Motor Garage, Medical Practice, Cable Car Terminus , Mornington Tavern and many other local shops.
Dunedin is known for its culinary experiences. Award-winning restaurants serve fresh local seafood and delicacies, quirky bars are found in intriguing alleyways, cafes filled with coffee purists and connoisseurs and an entertainment precinct that thrives on the vibrancy, brought about by being a University City.
As well as the Botanic Gardens and the spectacular coastal landscape, other attractions include the historic Dunedin Railway Station, and reputedly the world’s steepest street, Baldwin Street, which runs an annual downhill race.
The world famous Taieri Gorge historic rail journey shouldn't be missed. Also visit the Chinese gardens, Otago Harbour - a popular place for kayaking, rowing, windsurfing, fishing and yachting, the Botanic Garden's 28 hectares of trees and park-land (with Aviaries including NZ native parrots) is located close to central city, and is a popular lunch time venue with locals and visitors.
The city centre hosts a modern public art gallery housing one of New Zealand’s best international art collections, Theatres, Museums and Libraries which rank among the country’s finest.
This is a great place to visit while traveling, holidaying, or for a relaxing get-away. Our cottage is also ideal for business trips or job relocations.

Me and my teenaged son enjoyed the place, very warm and cozy and very central for Dunedin. Coffee in the morning on the verandah and listening to the bird life was lovely

We loved the house, and we loved the surrounding garden with its trees, flowers, birds, and bees. The house is in a quiet neighborhood but conveniently close to shops, restaurants, and hiking trails. We stayed 10 nights and were never at a loss for things to do in Dunedin.

Loved the cottage, the garden and the cabana - was a gorgeous wee house in a great location!

The cottage and garden were great. Steep walk to market and nearby eateries, but that seemed true for all of Dunedin. We walked to ( downhill) and from (the opposite) downtown several times. Living room small and furniture a bit worn, but it's all about being out and about doing things, so not a problem. Bedrooms very comfy, shower water pressure excellent and kitchen well equipped.

It was a lovely little place.

Cute setting, close to grocery and pharmacy. Quiet neighborhood. Only issue was the quality and comfort of the sitting area couch and chairs. These pieces of furniture should be upgraded for a better guest experience. Overall, a good stay.

The house was a lovely cottage in a quiet area of town with access to local shops and close to the town centre. We had a wonderful stay in Dunedin.

A characterful, old-school cottage with a lovely garden, acted as a good base for our explorations in Dunedin. The location up in Mornington is a wee way from the CBD, but not too bad, and close to supermarket plus other shops. The interior is quite dark, so probably best for summer months. Some of the facilities, including the kitchen and bathroom, are quite dated now and could do with a spruce-up. The instructions around accessing the property and the cabana are a bit minimal, and could do with being a bit clearer.

Cabana great for privacy from cottage, also has outside toilet for cabana not advertised. Cottage 120years olds. You need to turn heating on on grey days. Due to age, not much insulation. A terrific authentic atmosphere of an old Dunedin Cottage with modern conveniences. Thank you.

This property is very charming. The flowers and trees in the yard are so beautiful and well taken care of. The house is older, with squeaky floor board charm. The furniture in the living room could use repairing or updating, but it fits the area of the house. It was nice to have a washer and drier, since it was too cold and wet to use the clothes line. I could have sat in the yard the whole time I was there.

The property here is beautiful. The owner warned us that it may be chilly in the midst of winter, but it was completely fine once we had the heater going for a little bit and there are heaters everywhere you'd want them (including in the bathroom which is rare in New Zealand).
Do note: If you are not able bodied, you will want to either rent a car or plan to uber as the hill you need to walk up to get to grocery, restaurants, and walk to downtown Dunedin is very steep.

Great feeling being in the tastefully decorated cottage surrounded with beautiful garden.
Could be a bit more access friendly, bit hard for my elderly mother and her walker frame. Comfortable beds, heating was good, nice to have the Cabana for another option.

We especially enjoyed the lovely garden since the weather was great. And the views from Mornington park (with a ‘Coffee Grid’ or Patties icecream!). Short walk into town.

Lovely cottage in a really nice part of town, with everything we needed, we really enjoyed our stay. Lots of nice walking locally, and beautiful morning sunrise vista's from just up the street.
Sadly the video player wasn't working at the time we stayed, so our DVDs stayed in the suitcase, but we were able to watch all our usual TV programs.

Comfortable retreat.
The property was fine though outside areas could have been tidier. We both found it difficult to access the keys on lock box and neither phone number on your supplied info sheet replied to our messages. Eventually some broken nails later we did get at the key. We also took some time to work out internet access which was not clearly explained. Otherwise we had a good experience and being so close to the Mornington shops etc a bonus.

Mornington Cottage
Hot water was lukewarm in bathroom and kitchen. The toilet smelt. Toilet was loose on the floor. Heat pump did not perform well. Mats a trip hazard in the hallway. Fridge leaked water over the floor. Freezer had dried blood in it. Rubbish under bed. TV volume went up and down. Overall it was okay.

Perfect
A step back in history but with all the mod cons. Beautiful garden and excellent communication and service from the host. Highly recommend.
