The perfect year round getaway for relaxation, nature/bird watching, and central to Prince Edward County, Kingston and the 1000 Islands and Quinte tourist areas.
We offer complimentary water crafts, bicycles and a Provincial Parks Pass Victoria Day to Thanksgiving and a year round hot tub with private use hours.
WAIVER:

OVERVIEW:
An early 1800's stone mill sits on an island in the Salmon River between two one lane bridges. A waterfall on either side, weeping willow trees swaying in the breeze, the river alive with wildlife, a variety of birds and bountiful gardens completes the picture.
You are viewing the Waterfall Retreat, an eclectic 525 square foot studio suite on the river, lower level of the mill which has a private entrance.
Our mill is located in the very picturesque and historic hamlet of Lonsdale which has been the subject of many artists and photographers.
SELF CATERING:
This is a self catering rental as we do not provide meals. The full kitchen is equipped with pots/pans, cooking tools, cutlery, etc, everything you'll need to prepare your own meals indoors or outside. We do provide you with coffee, teas, coffee cream and all the basic condiments and spices for your convenience. We encourage you to bring some food with you to start out as there are no grocery stores in the immediate area.
BUYING GROCERIES:
There is a Metro, No Frills and a Walmart grocery store in Napanee, a 15 minute drive east. Many grocery stores are located in Belleville, 20 minutes west. There are also grocery stores in Picton, 30 minutes south.
DESCRIPTION OF SUITE:
The space is well appointed with authentic rustic charm and many custom features, original mill artifacts and eclectic and antique touches. The full kitchen features a 1930's porcelain sink brought from the mill owner's house, an antique dish cupboard, antique oak counter originally from the Kingston Whig Standard Newspaper office and custom cut granite. The bathroom boasts a vessel sink and a custom tile and limestone shower with glass sliding door and oil rubbed bronze fixtures. There are two comfy reclining chairs for watching t.v. in the sitting area and large limestone window sills in the three windows which look right out onto the river and waterfalls. The bedroom area is a cozy space with a custom made farmhouse queen size bed, a memory foam mattress, fine linens, an exposed original limestone wall and an electric fireplace for extra coziness. The 42 inch Fire television with Netflix and Prime is on a swivel and can be viewed from either the bedroom or the living area. Original hand-hewn beamed ceilings and original mill doors as well as other mill artifacts adorn the space. A private patio with a Weber barbeque, chimnea and a dining area complete with cushioned, swivel chairs is situated right outside your door at the water’s edge.
AMENITIES:
The Waterfall suite is situated right at the river's edge with a patio by the waterfalls for dining and relaxing. Kayaks, a canoe, motorized peddle boat, paddleboard, outdoor shower and touring bicycles are all available free of charge to our guests from mid May until Thanksgiving and a riverside hot tub under the stars is available year round for which you have private times on all the odd numbered hours. A Provincial Parks Pass is also complimentary. With waterfront on three sides, you'll likely want to spend some time on the river. It is usually high and quite fast until May and then quietens for relaxing paddles or peddles throughout the summer months and early fall. Only seasoned paddlers should use the river in May and we will only offer use of the boats at this time of year at our discretion. Swimming depends on the river levels which depends on the amount of rainfall. We reserve the right to limit or prohibit boat, bicycle or hot tub use if we deem necessary for any reason.
All our amenities are fully complimentary. One bucket of wood is provided each day for use in the chimnea or firepit by the dock. Additional wood may be purchased at five dollars per bucket. You can also pick some fresh organic veggies ( in season) from our vegetable garden to complement your meals.
Enjoying nature is the main occupation here. It is the river that gives this place it's magical vibe and brings the wildlife in abundance for our pleasure. Bring your camera! Great Blue Herons, Song Birds, Eagles, Osprey, Otters, Beavers, Muskrats, Geese, Ducks, Turtles and yes even snakes are all happy to call the island and the surrounding river home. (Do not interfere with the wildlife and they will not interfere with you.) A motorized peddle boat ride at sunrise or sunset is absolutely magical! The grounds are full of flowers and birds chirping and the sound of the waterfalls makes this an ideal spot to just kick back and enjoy.
FALL AND WINTER AT THE MILL:
In the cooler months of the year, enjoy the outdoor all season hot tub under the stars by the river and waterfall. There are many walking/hiking trails in the area and wineries in Prince Edward County that are open in the off season and many other seasonal attractions in our area during the cooler months.

We stayed here for a week for our honeymoon and it was absolutely lovely! Everything was even prettier than the pictures. The hosts, Jerry and Suzie, had thought of everything we might need and provided us with a well stocked kitchen, lots of games and reading material for rainy days and lots of fun outdoor activities. We loved the location because it was nice and quiet but not too far from fun activities in Kingston, Belleville and Prince Edward county. We especially enjoyed exploring Picton and the beach at sandbanks. We can’t wait to come back!

My husband and I came for a relaxing getaway. The suite is beautifully decorated and well-furnished, and the property is breathtaking. We loved hearing the sound of the river in the background and eating all of the meals outside that we could, when it wasn't raining. The hosts were friendly and available, but gave us our space. They had wonderful suggestions for places to explore that we really enjoyed. We have been recommending it to our friends and recommend it to you too!

The Island Mill Getaway is lovingly tended. The property is beautiful, peaceful and a lovely oasis to unwind. The property owners are caring, responsive lovely people. Do not hesitate to go! It is a special spot you will really enjoy and remember!

The property and hosts met our expectations in every way for a second time. The snowy back drop for the hot tub was perfect.
Our only suggestion is for a love seat in the sitting area so we can get super snuggly, we did move the chairs together ☺️
Thanks again for an amazing time.

The entire experience from start to finish was thoughtfully curated to ensure all our needs were met, with many added luxuries and small touches that make you feel welcome and at home as soon as you walk in the door.
The suite was stunning, spacious yet cozy, and with a decor carefully integrated to elicit wonder and curiosity as you navigate each space.
We really appreciated the “Welcome to the Island Mill Getaway” information binder on how to navigate amenities, the spaces, and be mindful of procedures that are relevant for maintaining such a historic space. While Jerry and Suzie are on premise or available by text, the straight-forward and easy to read information alleviated any questions we had.
Across our three night stay, during the day we found ourselves exploring Prince Edward County (20min. drive) and at night returned to the Island Mill for 5pm sun sets (mid-November), BBQ-ing, soaking in the hot-tub, sitting by the fire, and enjoying Netflix movies.
The little things like a clean and pristine BBQ that ignites on the first try, a prepped outdoor fire-place that just needs lighting, spices/cream/syrup available in the fridge when you realize you forgot to add those to the grocery list, or bath-robes to make your way to and from the hot-tub, helped create the most relaxing and stress-free experience.
Thank-you so much Jerry and Suzie for the wonderful experience and we look forward to returning hopefully in the Spring/Summer this time.

Susie and Jerry’s home/property was absolutely beautiful, we stayed in the waterfall suite and it was beyond what we expected. They had everything you could think of and more. The outdoor seating was fantastic along with the bbq and chiminea. The view of the waterfall was amazing and the amount of wildlife we saw fantastic; Great blue herons, otters and so much else. The property as a whole was well taken care of, from the detail to the planted flowers to the garden and pond. The outdoor accommodations were easily accessible for using the canoe and kayaks from paddles and life jackets and also using the pool noodles for swimming and floating in river. Overall it was a fantastic getaway from the city, very peaceful and serene.

The downstairs suite is beautiful and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped. The patio is right at the edge of the river with a great view. The kayak ride up the river is incredibly peaceful. You can walk in the south arm if the river quite a ways. Suzie and Jerry were great hosts who put an incredible amount work and passion into the grounds. We enjoyed the freah lettuce and herbs for our nightly meals. 100% recommended.

What a wonderful oasis. Incredible attention to detail throughout. This waterfall suite was a perfect base for exploring PEC from wineries and breweries to Sandbanks Provincial Park. We even caught a pickerel in the river while trolling in the electric peddle boat.
Thanks so much Suzie and Jerry.

Helpful informative hosts.
Pristine and very comfortable room.

The owner of the property charged me damages due to stains in the sheets and duvets. I used an massage oil for my back and I believe we may have left some residue in the sheets. Which can be easily removed with a single wash.
Another thing that surprised me is that the host complained that I left dishes and my breakfast in the checkout date on the table. Yes. I did. I was there to enjoy the time with my partner and the 11:00 checkout time is to give the host time to clean it. Besides, there is a fee for that. Why would the host expect me to clean everything before I leave. If it were to leave it clean, I should be able to check out later and not fee should be charged right?

This property blew us away! It's a must-experience location that I will be recommending to everyone I know. The description, reviews and photos from other travellers got me so excited to visit, but none of that can do justice to what it's like to actually be there. The owners did such a great job of highlighting the mill and surrounding area's heritage through the decor and reading material provided in the apartment. We will definitely come back to experience this place in all of the seasons.

Great experience, the place is very comfortable and relaxing. Hot tub was nice, and Suzie and Jerry were very nice hosts. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Love this place and highly recommend! Rustic old mill that's been renovated while maintaining its old charm - highly unique property to stay in. Being right next to the river, you hear the flow of water all day and see it from your room. We were in the Waterfall suite which was spacious and cozy, with a well-equipped kitchen and everything you'd want in a suite and more (the hosts provided bathrobes, extra warm socks, plenty of towels, plenty of guides of the area and interesting books, there is a smart TV, etc.). The outdoor hot tub was nice and hot and had an incredible view of the river and grounds. We went to a conservation area which was a 10-minute drive away and had a beautiful winter walk. Perfect escape from the city. We hope to be back!

This was our third time staying at the mill. We have enjoyed every season there except the summer. You won't find better hosts anywhere else.

My partner and I had a wonderful weekend staying in Jerry and Suzie's beautiful space. The history of the mill is fascinating and the interior is very cozy which was perfect for the snowy weather. It's in a great location to serve as a hub for PEC activities. This was our first trip as a couple so we will never forget it!!
Jerry and Suzie, thank you both so much for the generous hospitality. We can't wait to visit again in the summer!

Not all who wander are lost
My husband and I stayed at this property 7 years ago and came back to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary this year. It was more than we expected, the newly renovated apartment we stayed in was so cozy and immaculately clean. We loved all the attention to detail in the space and everything we needed was available at our finger tips. The hosts were extremely helpful, it felt like we were part of the family rather than guests. Loved cooking our anniversary dinner using the abundance of produce from the property. We hope to make this one of our annual retreat.

Wonderful honeymoon spot
We had a fabulous stay at the Mill! The hosts were amazing, the suite and property were gorgeous, and our time there was everything we could have hoped for.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Jerry & Suzie have thought of everything. Any little touch you could imagine and ones you wouldn’t easily think of have been added to make the experience so wonderful. There are many things to do on and around the property as well as many places to go within an hour’s drive. We had seven full days and could not do even half of all the things that we thought of so we will have to return some time!

SUPERB HIDDEN GEM
This is one of the best VRBO we have ever had. The photos do not remotely capture the incredible beauty of this place! It is the only house on an island in the fork of the river -we called it a 2 bridge house because there is a bridge on each side. You might have a two car garage - they have a 2 bridge house!
I wanted others to get to experience this so I tried to find the right words to describe it. I settled on SENSUAL and ENCHANTING.
Sensual: The VRBO location sparks every one of our 5 senses. - always a hint of roses, peonies, etc. waiving in the breeze; - - - rapids on both sides of house are gurgling & churning
- yard is full of flowers of all colors + turtles, ducks & geese.
- swimming in river (lake) behind is cold/crisp to skin
- when we told owners we were making an omelet they rushed
to pick fresh zucchini from their garden to add to it!
ENCHANTING because it is so beautifully and gracefully done and I would not have been surprised to see Snow White, 7 Dwarfs, fairies or elves stroll out or peak from under a budding plant.
The VRBO offers two units. We had the full kitchen, full bath on the lower level. You pass through a wrought iron trellis and take stone steps to private deck with fire pit, grill, etc. and rattan table and chairs sitting at cusp of rapids and with your own private dam and falls. Inside is decorated with things from original mill and is very cleverly done. Full kitchen, large area, excellent bed, good lighting, and the tv is hidden behind the map! Beautiful bathroom with large stone shower. Access to Big Washer and Dryer. Has A/C and Heat. It was June 2022 and we did NOT need the A/C! Heat was lovely. Terry Cloth robes provided for hot tub. (more like a 5 Star Resort in amenities). Several private sitting nooks in yard upstairs near other rapids, lake, river, etc. Kayaks, bikes, canoes.
We priced the Hampton Inn about 2 miles away and it was more expensive that this place and there is NO COMPARISON in accommodations. We don't understand why this is so wonderful, but we HAVE already booked our stay for 2023.
Hosts were Suzee and Jerry were perfect. Friendly, funny, helpful, knowledge and if you needed them they were there, otherwise you had complete privacy. We stayed a week and it was amazing.

A sweet suite!
Friendly owners, beautiful setting, awesome renovation retaining the historical aspects of the mill. We enjoyed returning to this cozy, comfortable, and well stocked room after each day of exploring. Off the tourist track which appealed to us, but close enough to the County and parks, hiking etc…Already booked our return visit!

Solitude and Solace
From the beginning, I received a warm welcome through email. What I could expect and what was expected was precisely articulated in documentation and notes of information in the suite.
I was in the suite beside the river. The roaring dam was soothing and the tranquility of the space brought me the exact retreat I was hoping for. There is no detail to which Suzie and Jerry have not attended.
I will most definitely return for another stay!

Magical place
I rented this property for my partners birthday and we absolutely loved it. Growing up I spent lots of time in PEC yet I never experienced it in such a unique way. We were blown away by the scenery and feeling of this mill property. It was definitely a one of a kind experience and we can’t wait to experience this property in the summer.

Amazing getaway
From the moment we stepped on the property we knew we had found a special place for our getaway. The property was immaculate, unique and so inviting. We had the pleasure of staying in the Miller’s retreat for 4 nights and it was simply gorgeous and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We enjoyed coffee in the morning by the waterfalls and unwinded at night by the fire while listening to the sounds of nature at its finest. The owners Jerry and Suzy were extremely friendly and helpful and made you feel right at home. We already have plans to book another stay. We left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and completely satisfied with our stay. We have vacationed in much more costly areas that didn’t compare to the tranquility and peace we found here. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would.

A Wonderful Weekend Trip
We had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Island Mill Getaway. Suzie and Jerry have put together a beautiful space and we relished the opportunity to get out of the city and have some downtime. We hope that next time we can use more of the amenities, but all in all, we had a brilliant time and would strongly recommend this property!

Hidden Gem
Great experience from start to finish! Unique area steeped in history. Not trendy but a beautiful location and facilities. Jerry and Suzie were gracious hosts. The cozy unit was well appointed and we did not have to bring a thing. Walking, biking or meandering up the river on the peddle boat were so tranquil. We loved the hot tub and had a fire every night before turning in and falling asleep to the sound of the waterfall. We were so fortunate to experience the salmon spawning! We cannot wait to come back to this very special place.

Much needed escape
This was our second time staying at the Mill and it was just as amazing as the first time. Going later in the season showed us the mill with lower water levels and the vegetable garden which were both amazing. Jerry and Suzie put lots of work in since our last visit and we can’t wait to visit the property again. You guys think of everything! And thank you for sharing your home with us, it is quickly becoming one of our favorite places.

Exactly What I Was Looking For
This little apartment is perfect for a short or long stay. The kitchen is very well equipped, they offer condiments, spices, oils, coffee/tea, cream, etc. If you need anything, they are more than happy to accommodate. The bed is comfy, and the whole place is cozy and so charming. The little grill and hot tub outside is great. They offer so many little luxurious extras - cozy socks, bathrobes, etc,.
It was chilly outside but the heating options were perfect (regular vents, electric fireplace, bathroom heater, etc). In the spring, the water is rushing right outside your window (which is AMAZING but a tad noisy) BUT I really enjoyed the sound (think white noise). Since I stayed (alone) during the pandemic, they made extra accommodations and sanitized everything, provided an extra 24hrs between clients, and made check-in/check-out entirely 'socially distant'.
The only thing I'd suggest would be to modify the kitchen bar to make the overhang slightly longer so you can more comfortably eat or do work at the bar. Otherwise, it was absolutely perfect, and I will definitely be back.
