We’ve stayed several times in the last 20 years. The house is convenient to the park and boat ramp.

Great place to spend vacation with friends and family.
Lots to do indoors with various games and outdoor swimming pool.
As well as outdoors.

Had a great time once we were able to get into the property. Even the bakery who brought the welcome cookies had a problem getting in to leave the gift. Beds were made and a basket of small toiletries we might have forgotten was a nice touch. Loved the location, close to groceries and Cape Charles. Wish we had more time to spend there. House needs a deep cleaning though and outdoor furniture needs to be repainted because it was unusable due to chipping paint.

The house is located well. It is just down the street from the state park and the bikes were a welcome luxury. The pool was wonderful with its automatic cover and heat pump The house is well stocked with games, activities and toiletries but not coffee. The singles beds were not made. With our late arrival making beds didn't fill me with joy. Overall it was a good getaway home for sunny and rainy days.

This was our first time in Cape Charles. We were celebrating an early 50th and my criteria were: beach, pool, shopping and hanging out with friends and family. We had all of the above. The house was cozy, clean and spacious enough for our crew. Communication with the host was very good. Even with the tropical storm coming through, we had a fun trip.

This is our second time staying at Almost Paradise it’s a great house for my family of 12. It was spacious and has everything you need. The kids are ages 4-10 and loved the pool and the basketball hoop, cornhole and they learned how to play shuffleboard. Everyone had a great time

I told my Father to pack for a 4 day getaway to celebrate his birthday. Immediately, he began to ask questions. Upon arriving and entering the property he began smiling, laughing and crying. Great family experience and we made forever memories. The property was very well maintained, clean and inviting. The host was diligent and most friendly. Again, thank you for a relaxing and enjoyable stay!

Fun Home to enjoy vacation
House was wonderful. Great house to entertain Adults and especially the kids. Kids loved the pool tables, indoor basketball hoop, theatre tv. The pool was wonderful. House is right near State park, so kids were able to ride bikes to the beach. Sarah was a great host and always available to answer any questions. We had a great time during our family reunion and will definitely be back!!

Almost Paradise is right
We enjoyed cooking and dining in, puzzles and play, early rising for the 20 minute walk to the beach, and glorious hours on the local trails, hiking, cycling etc. A fine time was had, and we’d all hope to return in a year or so.

Our new favorite vacation spot!
Our family was so happy with this property!! We went for a small family vacation, mainly to celebrate my wedding. The house was perfect and beautiful for our little celebration. My husband was so pleased with it, he said he likes our experience last weekend more than our OBX trip last year! Sarah sent us cookies on check in day, which were yummy and that was nice! There was so much to do there that we didn’t get to do it all, so we will have to come back! I couldn’t say enough good things about our trip. You won’t regret any dime spent on this property.

We have stayed in the area several times. This property is the best. Everything you need close at hand. We enjoyed the heated pool every day. Went to the beach only once because the pool was so great. Walked the bike path down to the park (1/2 mile to entrance) and walked the trails. Cape Charles 10 minutes away. Went there twice. Plenty off stuff for everyone of all ages and interests to do at this house! Thanks Sarah for being such a great host!

The house was clean, very nice inside and the kids loved the pool and game room! The host sending us fresh baked cookies on day 1 was a nice touch. It was a bit of a surprise to find out it's located on an off ramp and the giant chalet windows face a highway. Traffic isn't constant but I could hear it in the morning from the master BR on the 3rd floor. The neighbor's landscaper also decided to use a string trimmer at 7:30am waking us up another day. Totally not the hosts fault but if you're looking for scenery and silence it's not here. As for Cape Charles as a vacation destination, riding bikes and swimming in the bay at the State Park down the road was a nice option from this house. The town though has some very odd hours for their stores and other issues. Maybe due to COVID? Hard to know since this was our first visit. Many are closed until Wednesday or Thursday, or spots like the Distillery are only open 1-5 on Monday and then not again till Thursday. Restaurant options in town are limited too. Gingernut Pub was a basic Irish pub. Shanty's had a 2+ hour wait at 5:30 on a Tuesday. We tried Hook @ Harvey's but they only take reservations and serve small groups (there were 10 of us). Staff was very nice and gave us some other suggestions to check out. Oyster Farm may have been an option but is the most expensive one. We ended up at Don Valerios, a 10 minute drive back out of town and got great, affordable Mexican food and no long wait. Cape Charles Brewery was great, but also not in town. Dead Rise Pies makes some good pizza! We got takeout as wait times and large groups there are tough too. Unfortunately, many of the shops close by 5 or 6 so you can't pop in while you wait for a table. Cape Charles beach was not an option for swimming as soon as we got a whiff of the sewage plant on one side of town with views of the concrete plant across the water. We decided to take the 45 minute drive down to Virginia Beach instead one day so we could swim in the ocean. So this was a great host, and house (except those highway views) but definitely not the beach town we'd hoped for.

I'm not sure where to begin with this house. We've been to many vacation homes but we all agreed that this one was the best by far. My family (5 adults and 3 kids under13) had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy all that the house itself had to offer - which was plenty! The upstairs bedrooms (3) each had their own full size bath which was very much appreciated. Plenty of room do whatever you wanted with room to spare. I must admit, I was a little concerned about the size of the house and the A/C.
Don't give it a second thought. The entire house, first floor to third floor, was air conditioned with each floor having their own thermostat. Office/desk space was also available should you need to log in. Wifi was great, pool was amazing with nice steps in and automatic cover -- it was a welcome relief from the heat. This was our first experience with the salt water pool and it did not disappoint - so much easier on the eyes. The shuffle board outside was a big hit with everyone. The house was truly wonderful, but the hospitality provided by Sarah was well beyond anything that we've experienced. Between the thoughtfulness of the fresh cookies from a local bakery, the basket of toilet articles for those that might forget them, to her efficiency in responding to our questions/concerns set a new high bar for future rentals. She will definitely not disappoint. Thank you Sarah! You truly understand the meaning of hospitality.

We had six adults and three kids staying at Sarah’s wonderful house. The welcome cookies were a hit, and the house was clean and well cared for. It had something for everyone. The kids loved the pool, the adults loved the pool table, and the bike ride to the beach worked out very well. Sarah was super responsive to questions, and the house had more than we had time to enjoy. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

Almost Paradise
We had a great stay at Almost Paradise! Sarah was very accommodating after having to cancel our family vacation due to Covid in 2020. We were able to re-book for 2021 and everyone loved Almost Paradise! The location was perfect. We biked to kiptopeke state park for the playground and quiet beach. Being bayside was perfect for the kids; they loved swimming in the calm, warm waters, as did the adults : ) Having the bikes available for all ages was so convenient. One of the bike trailers was not working prior to our stay, but Sarah fixed it as soon as she was made aware and even purchased an additional for the house! Nice to have one to tow the kids and one to tow beach supplies. Due to covid, all of the park programs at kiptopeke were canceled but the park was still enjoyable for all. Crossing the main road, there was also a beautiful bike trail that we enjoyed! The house is also only about a ten minute drive into Cape Charles, which offers another beautiful beach and some great restaurants and shopping, without the hustle and bustle you often find in other beach towns. Grocery store is also a convenient and quick drive from the house (less than ten minutes). Family members raved about the comfort of the king beds. Providing the linens and towels was convenient and the welcome basket and cookies were very thoughtful upon arrival. The pool could not have been better! It was great to return to after a day at the beach. The salt filter makes it so much more enjoyable than a chlorinated pool. There were also tons of lawn games (croquet, jumbo checkers, and jumbo bowling) to enjoy in the backyard. A pack and play and high chair were also at the house for use with our little ones. We would highly recommend almost paradise and would love to return with our multi generational group!!!

We had a wonderful family stay at Almost Paradise. The property is beautiful, very clean, and a very short commute to the state park. The pool was wonderful to have, especially vacationing with a small child…we could be right out of his bedroom window with the baby monitor enjoying the pool while he napped peacefully. We would definitely like to return in the future.
Our only issue was that the property manager was not made aware that the child’s bike trailer was broken, so for our stay, we were not able to ride bikes to the beach as a family like we really hoped and planned to do. If we had known it was broken, we could have planned accordingly. This did not majorly impact the quality of our trip—was just disappointing.
Overall, this a great place for a very low key, relaxing, family vacation!

Sarah’s home was perfect for our family getaway. The heated pool was wonderful and clean. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/ pans and dishes/utensils but did not include basic cooking needs like oil or spices so be sure to bring everything with you. There is a Food Lion about ten minutes from the house where we were able to buy all our groceries.
There are two local beaches. One that can be accessed for free by foot (or bike) otherwise it’s $7 for parking. The house comes with many bikes to choose from and it was a fun adventure biking to the beach with the kids. The other beach is about a 12 minute drive from the house and there’s free street parking. Both beaches were quiet, clean, and kid friendly
The welcome basket Sarah left us with toiletries and locally baked cookies was the perfect touch. She was also super responsive to texts and emails and happily answered all of our questions.
Overall, Thai was the perfect family getaway and we will definitely be back!

We had an amazing time at Almost Paradise. The property was clean and well-kept. It was located right down the road from Kiptopeke State Park where we hiked, played on the beach, and did lots of fishing. When we arrived there was a basket of amenities and a box of cookies which everyone enjoyed. The pool was clean and warm and had toys available to use. We had a baby with us and it was nice that the property had a high chair and pack-n-play for us to use. The owner, Sarah, was great to work with. She was kind when we had to postpone our vacation due to COVID-19 and responded very quickly to questions and concerns before and during our stay. Everyone was incredibly comfortable in the home and definitely contributed to use having a fantastic vacation. Would definitely stay again.

Level Up Your Vacation
Our nephews, who were on vacation with us, speak video gamer. They would say you can get more hearts (aka renew your energy) by staying at Almost Paradise. As an adult, I would say that's true but you have to expell alot of physical energy to do it. This house is 3 flights with no lift or elevator. The immaculate hardwood floors made walking around in bare feet uncomfortable in my hips after a while, but do not let that deter you from choosing this place! I have medical physical limitations that made it challenging but I still had a great time. If you are looking to level up from staying at a hotel to a house to keep your friends & family together Almost Paradise is a terrific option.
The photographs on VRBO are out dated. The "theatre room" is a first floor open recreation room. There aren't theatre like reclining seats as pictured. There's a sectional sofa and two giant bean bag chairs. I mean GIANT! The kiddos had a blast jumping from one to the other and they probably could have slept on them if we allowed it. There is a billiard table, laundry room, bedroom with a two player basketball game in it (not pictured), outdoor games like bowling & croquet, and a half bath on this floor. Outside is shuffle board (like a cruise ship!) and a beautifully maintained heated pool. We spent a ton of time in the pool! Getting to watch my nephews learn to go under water and do jumps into the pool was the highlight of my trip. What will be yours? Also outside is 2 different grills, a boat wash, and plenty of parking for all. Be super careful as you come onto Kiptopeke Dr. This house is hidden behind trees & you'll miss the turn in if you aren't careful. It's a one way road so it's a bit of an inconvenience to have to go out and turn around. Come in slow and you'll see a small yellow rental house, trees and the drive way is just behind the trees. Be sure to leave space for your littles to use the complimentary side walk chalk!
The second level is the main portion of the house. Everything is open: fully stocked kitchen (minus food), dining table that seats eight plus an island in between that has additional seats, and the living room with a pullout sofa and a love seat. TV above the fireplace is a bit dated looking but the picture is still great. Two full bed rooms with full baths on this floor and a 3rd floor with the same gives a feeling of cozy but separation. Main road noise is a problem at night, beds are very soft. Provided linens were amazing.
