About this cabin rental
We love re-investing into our cottage to make our guest's experience better!!
FALL Booking NOTES: We have included a new mini-split in the main room of our cottage (heat and A/C). However, we just installed it this June and have not tested it out in cooler temperatures. We do not know how well it keeps the cottage warm in the fall when the temps are lower as of yet. We do provide many blankets for the beds or curling up to watch a movie or read a book in the living room. We also have one portable heater that can be moved around the cottage. (The electrical system will only allow one portable heater.) If you are accustomed to central heat then this may not be the place for you.) This is also why we stop booking in mid-October and reopen in later May.
- The private deck dock has been installed!! We will be posting a photo next week after we receive our 4 adirondack chairs. This will be a perfect place to enjoy a coffee and watch the sunrise OR an adult beverage and look at the stars and watch the moon rise - the moon looks different here! OR if you like to fish - the bay is known to be a good spot that you may be able to catch something right from the dock. PLEASE NOTE - THIS DOES GET TAKEN OUT OF THE WATER SOMETIME IN OCTOBER.
This is our family cottage that we completely renovated in 2008 and we updated the bedrooms, roof and windows in 2023. In 2024, we renovated the living room, dining room and added the dock. Each year we look at what else we can do to improve our vacation get away! We truly enjoy imagining all of the changes we can make to make this a great place to stay at.
If you are looking for a place close to Traverse City that is on a quiet lake - this is your spot! This cottage is a part of a small 1950's fishing resort that has one year round house and 7 small cabins. Ours is the most southern one and is slightly more private on one side than the other ones. If you have friends or family that you want to stay near - ask us about other cottages that may be available for rent at the same time.
Our kitchen is fully stocked and we leave spices, paper products, coffee, etc. for you to use while there.
This cozy cottage has 3 bedrooms and one bathroom. A nice open floor plan with a kitchen, dining area and living room. We do have a portable stand up AIR CONDITIONER that is in the main area between the living room and dining table.
There is a very large deck that has three seating areas for dining and relaxing. There is also a fire pit area with several Adirondack chairs. There are also two loungers for laying out in the sun and enjoying a good book.
2023 BEDROOM UPDATES
All the bedrooms now have new windows as of 2023.
BEDROOM #1 This room we call the "Beach House" room. It has a full bed with a black out curtain. It has two night stands with lamps that have USB ports.
BEDROOM #2 This room has a twin loft bed with a queen bed underneath. It also has two night stands with mounted lamps with USB ports. Black out curtains are in this room as well.
BEDROOM #3 This bedroom has a queen bed, new shiplap, black out curtains and dressers with lamps with USB ports.
We also have 6 single kayaks, 2 stand up paddle boards and several water floats for you to use free of charge. We love floating in the lake or kayaking around the islands (5) and bays on this 343 acre lake. There is a small sand bar just around the corner by the public access area and adjacent island where we love to spend time hanging out in the water. Just a short kayak ride away.
For those with kids, we also have a kid cabin that they will enjoy. (Adults may also enjoy the top deck of that as well for a beautiful view of the lake while drinking your morning coffee or enjoying an evening cocktail.) Please note that there is no internet and only one room stand up air conditioning. We do have satellite TV. We also provide games and a bin of toys for those with young ones. There are also some sand toys in the shed or storage bench on the deck.
IF RENTING IN THE FALL (or early spring) PLEASE NOTE: The cottage does not have central heat or air. Only one portable heater can be run at one time due to electrical restrictions, but can be moved to different locations in the cottage. If the temperature is cooler it can be mildly cold in the cottage. Nothing dressing warmly or using extra blankets can't cure - but just want you to be aware of this if it is important to you. It is a 3 season cottage and why we stop booking as the temperature in Michigan cools.
There are so many fun things to do in the Traverse City area.
Very near the cottage are several choices:
- Boones Long Lake Inn
- Moomers Ice Cream
- Interlochen
Traverse City is just a short drive away (approximately 15 minutes from Front Street) and offers downtown shopping, several restaurants and waterfront.
There are also many cute towns along the peninsula as well as wineries and casinos. You will not be disappointed in this area!

What a lovely cabin! We loved everything about our stay. The cabin is recently updated and feels very clean and comfortable. It’s close enough to traverse city but still remote enough that you feel relaxed. The dock was lovely to sit on. Our dog loved running around the property and napping on the dock. It definitely feels like someone’s home that is taken care of. We can’t wait to come back.

Bass lake was so quiet that you would think you were in Quetico. The loons agreed. The cottage was so well equipped you could fly in and use it. The checkin and owner communications were superb. Enjoyed the kayaks & paddle boards. Would definitely use again.

My family and I loved this cabin! A very easy and convenient drive to Traverse City. The kayaks and SUP were so fun and my kids loved the sandy beach.
The cabin was very clean and comfortable. It has just about everything you’d need in the kitchen! My only thing I’d bring to the attention of future renters is there isn’t laundry so pack accordingly and be prepared for sandy kids ☺️
Would definitely recommend this to others and stay again!

The property is very much as advertised... pretty basic small 3 bed rooms with one bath house. Lots of toys for kids and adults, the owners really seemed to make an effort to be communicative and helpful and make the place enjoyable with some nice touches (kids noticed the "fairy houses" in yard for example). It was also nice to be able to access the lake on days we were not out and about.

Been coming to Traverse City since I was a kid. Never been to Bass lake. Thank you so much for your warm communication and all the conveniences. We paddle boarded and kayaked for the first time and the lake was just so peaceful! We loved the area and the neighbors we met!

Very nice cabin on Bass Lake. Perfect, quiet location. Convenient to Traverse City, wineries, the Dunes. The lake was wonderful. So nice to have kayaks, paddle boards, grill, fire pit, tons of outdoor seating available. The owners provided so much, it made the stay so much easier and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing! Very comfortable beds too! Highly recommend!

Perfect family getaway in nature but near Traverse coty
We had a fabulous time. My husband and I and our two teenage daughters plus golden retriever had a great time! Loved being right on Bass Lake. We saw a family of wild turkeys, my husband caught fish, and we explored TC and fishtown and had a cozy family vacation. Winner!!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Kings cottage. We are a family of four (two kids, ages 5 and 7), plus my sister and her boyfriend. So six in total. The rooms are very tight, but we made it work. The cottage is laid out thoughtfully and everything was well stocked when we arrived. Very nice not having to bring things like softsoap or garbage bags. For us, having access to kayaks every day was a real treat. We spotted loons, all kinds of warblers and songbirds, and a bald eagle. Itd be nice if there were one or two double kayaks (they are all single), but my husband and I each took a kid with us and again, we made it work. The paddle boat was difficult to maneuver but we got some great laughs out of going in circles in the lake. The lake is very shallow and warm, especially by August. The kids loved playing on the beach and we could trust them to play in the water because there were no drop offs or current. However, there is lots of seaweed and, with frequent water snake sightings, we ended up going into TC and using the public beach a couple of times for better swimming (esp for the adults). The deck was absolutely perfect for meals and relaxing. The new grill worked just great. Neighbors were friendly and quiet. The only thing that would have made the stay easier is a washer/dryer, but we used a laundromat 10 minutes away mid-week to get us through. Not a big deal. We made lots of great memories, ate way too many smores, and are grateful to have discovered Bass Lake and this cottage!

Relaxing and beautiful
This was our first time renting a cottage and it completely met our expectations! We loved Bass Lake, especially anchoring our boat at the sand bar and swimming. The King’s cottage is very nice and cozy. We made a lot of wonderful memories!

Great location, relaxing setting
We enjoyed our stay, and I think the value is good considering you have a great deck and outdoor facilities including beach, firepit, kayaks, etc. The cabin was well stocked with spices for cooking, and lots of life jackets, fishing poles, water toys for the kids, everything we needed for outdoor fun! The kids were entertained for hours on end with the lake and kids cabin and woods to explore (watch out for poison ivy!) That being said there were a few downsides. The rooms are really small, like so small it was hard to walk around the bed, and the shower is tiny with low water pressure. Also wasn’t expecting the exterior to have so much chipping paint which made us a little worried as we drove up and saw how rough the outside of the cabin looked. But the place is very homey, and the beds were comfortable. There was sand all over the master bedroom comforter but we brushed it off. The lack of laundry became a big inconvenience, but for 6 days we made it work! Overall we had a fantastic week in TC, there are so many fun things to do, and the days we stayed in and hung out at the cabin we had a blast as well. We were able to grill and cook a lot of great meals in the kitchen. We loved the peaceful setting, enjoyed sipping coffee and reading on the porch each morning. The bottom step off the porch is really high though. I almost fell a few times... and twisted my knee/ankle once. We had a great week though, aside from the few minor issues we had. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone who plans to spend most of their time outside, or anyone looking for a great lakefront spot on a budget.

Peaceful and relaxing stay
A tranquil spot to truly relax and enjoy a beautiful lake, and yet still be close enough to the fun in Traverse City. Our family enjoyed kayaking, an evening fire on the ample sandy beach, and dining outdoors with all of the comfy seating on the deck. We were amazed at the lack of mosquitoes! A great vacation spot.

Great getaway!
Perfect place to escape the day to day hustle. The kayaks were our family’s favorite amenity. All 6 of us were able to go on the lake and enjoy the views. Great little cabin to explore traverse city and the sleeping bear dunes. Close enough for convenience yet far away enough to relax. Thanks for sharing your place with us!

Excellent cabin, kid friendly
My family had an amazing time at this cabin! Acquainted with three small rooms, our family of four was all able to fit comfortably including a pack n play in one room. We absolutely loved the beach, kayaks, and paddle board. Plenty of fireside chairs, we did have to buy some fire wood. Hope to stay here again!

Great cabin on the water!
This was a great place to stay while we enjoyed the wineries in Traverse City! The cabin was great for what we needed, and it was right on the lake. Although it was pretty chilly ( Late September - mid 50s during the day, 40s at night), there were space heaters to stay comfortable inside. Having a fire outside near the water was definitely a great way to stay warm, too! Kayaks were a nice addition to go out on the water in the morning and evening. We communicated with the host through email, and it was a very smooth process to rent the place for a long weekend. The directions were well worded to find the place. The cabin is about 20 mins from the airport if flying in. Would definitely recommend!

Clean & Gorgeous Lake Cabin!
The cabin exceeded our expectations! It was very clean and has a beautiful view and tons of amenities. Our family had a ton of fun BBQing, kayaking, building sand castles and sitting around the fire. The house has a large deck, a camp fire, and its own beach! Also, Lisa King is a phenomenal host! This is best experience I have had with a short-term rental. Almost every you need is provided by Lisa. I really appreciated the great communication from her. She provided detailed directions on how to get on the on what would be provided and what we needed to bring, check-in and check-out time. Definitely helpful in planning a trip for a big family. We can't wait to come back next year!

The cottage is super clean & really cute! The pictures do not do it justice!
Such a cute cottage nestled in the woods on the lake. The kayaks were so much fun. Even though it stormed a few days we still had time in between the rain to enjoy the lake! We enjoyed our stay and will definitely reserve again! Love this place!

Exactly what we were looking for
What an absolutely great experience. We made full use of all the cabin had to offer from kayaking & fishing to playing golf nearby. Had several nice trips into town and even went hiking up at the sleeping bear dunes. There's still so much more to see and do that we didn't get to so we will absolutely be back.

Great deck, great little beach. So serene and Traverse City is just a short drive away!
We used the grill and ate in several nights. The weather was spectacular and the lake was perfect for kayaking. Fires in the pit at night. The food in Traverse City is so good. Just a great getaway with the family.

A Wonderful Family Getaway
We really enjoyed our week at this cabin on Bass Lake. The beach area and close boat launch were perfect for us, and we went fishing on our boat every day. Having the kayaks available was a great convenience and we used them everyday! Really loved the peacefulness of Bass Lake. The sand bar was a great area to hang out and float in the water.
We were surprised as to how small the cabin was, the bathroom and the bedrooms were very small. But, lots of beds for people to sleep. The outside of the cabin and deck need a little TLC, could be beautiful. The inside of the cabin was very nice though, which was a relief (I was nervous when we drove up to it).
Fully stocked cabin made our stay easy. We’d recommend for any family looking for a peaceful getaway.

We absolutely loved our stay! There were 8 of us and 1 dog and this cottage was perfect! The beach area was awesome with the kayaks, paddle boat, and fire pit. The cottage was clean and ready for our arrival. I felt very welcome when we walked in. Thank you for sharing your home. We had a wonderful weekend!
