The location is amazing and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay.
That we couldn't stay longer.

Malý čistý a moderní apartmán s plně vybavenou kuchyňkou, kávovarem a toastrem.
Parkoviště hned u penzionu.
Vše bylo naprosto dokonalé.

Emme saaneet ulko-ovea lukkoon.

Paula is an amazing host! It was the best place we stayed in during our holidays. The most comfortable beds in the whole Madeira. Rooms are spacious, modern and clean. We enjoyed the quietness over there ans the food and drinks in the restaurant. Obrigada! Until the next time!

Loistava lounas, ystävällinen palvelu. Kaiken kukkuraksi tilasivat meille maailman mukavimman taksinkuljettajan lähtöaamulle. Patikkapolullekin mahtui sekaan ilman suurempaa ruuhkaa.
Yhyeiskeittiössä olisi voinut kokata itse, mutta ravintolan tarjonta oli mainiota, joten turha raahata ruokatarpeita itse.

The place looks way better than the photos.
The rooms are new, well-decorated and clean. The bathroom is spacious.
Quite well equipped shared kitchen but remember to bring your food for dinner/breakfast as there are no grocery stores around. The restaurant next door (where you pick up the keys too) closes at 7pm.
Once all the tourists are gone you have the entire area for yourself and it's pretty charming.
Dinner and breakfast on the outside patio with the view of the valley and the low clouds was pretty cool.
The location is perfect if you want to do some Levada hikes in the area or if you want to be nice and early at Pico do Areiro to enjoy the sunrise and start the hike to Pico Ruivo.

Love this place. Everything was perfect. We were in the separate room with own entrance. At first we didn't like that it's without a mountain view but we always came back at night so this was really not a problem. There is a heating in the room! Bed is comfortable, bathroom clean. WiFi is strong, parking available for free. The kitchen is huge and equipped. The owner speaks English and is very nice person.
As there is not a shop nearby I would appreciate to have some basic food available (sugar, salt, tea, oil...)

Clean and cosy bed. When you get wet in the rain, its a place you can easily dry your clothes.
A personal welcome is sthg different, thats missing imo.

We were on the ground floor at the rear so didn’t really have a view.

Perfect match. Very good accommodations and it has got a restaurant next door. Definitely the place to be in Ribeiro Frio.
All good, no complaints.

This accommodation was perfectly situated in the interior of Madeira and had so many incredible sights within minutes of it. We were at Pico De Arieiro in about 19 minutes, drove 10 minutes down the road for the best best dinner on Madeira at Abrigo do Poiso (the Ribeiro Frio restaurant on site was a very close second), walked 5 minutes down the road to the best levada walk on the island, walked 7 minutes down a trail next to the property to the Balcoe Overlook, stumbled on to an incredible area to camp just miles down the road at a stunning meadow filled with sheep and enjoyed the very comfortable bed inside the rental.
The shower was draining just a little too slowly and water backed up in the pan of the floor

Close to PR1 trailhead, comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, excellent restaurant next door, parking
It was a little bit cold since the wall heaters were not enough to warm the studio apartment. The bed comforter however kept us warm all night.

Ok so we went in February and the weather was.... interesting ... but the hosts and the restaurant were spot on! We had the top apartment (number 5) which meant we had cooking facilities in the room and I was VERY grateful having picked up a virus on the plane. The view was... foggy beyond expectation but if you are going to the mountains and some great walks, it's just spot on! I will return but perhaps not in February. The host and his team were utterly rushed off their feet when we arrived at 2.30 but the food and apartment were great. If you book, I'd go for the one that has the private facilities (I think we may have been upgraded due to us being there for 4 days). On reflection, I'd do that...
All the great walks and mountains would be spot on... perhaps on a clearer month. Not the fault of the place though as they were superb in looking out for us.

Self-catering kitchen was clean and nicely equipped. Nearby access to hiking trails (Levada trail to Portela just up the road, short trail to Balcōes is just a few meters away). Restaurant is right next door.
Check-in and check-out are very uncomplicated by receiving/ leaving the key in the nearby restaurant.
Our room was very small (but as shown on the pictures) and therefore suitable for a short stay only. Shower could have been hotter.

Spacious rooms in a modern house. Shared use of a fully-equipped modern kitchen and attractive lounge area. Meals available at adjacent restaurant. The main reason to stay here is the location, high up in the hills. THe weather is temperamental so, if you stay over you have opportunities to visit the neighbouring viewpoint evening and morning, so more likely to avoid the cloud. Little honey cake in the room for a treat.
The advertised 'mountain view' was a limited glimpse of a scrubby hillside rising steeply behind the building.
The adjacent restaurant is pretty good but kitchen closes at 7 ( and the only other option to eat up there closed at 6), leaving a long evening with nothing much to do but watch bad Hollywood films. Breakfast options (not included in room) at the restaurant are pretty limited
4.5
Nice property with large shared kitchen and living room. The room was clean and comfortable. Staff were accommodating and the location is great for Levada dos Balcoes and other mountain walks
It's a tiny village and the 2 restaurants closed at 7pm,there's no grocery shop around

Great room with lots of space
It took forever to check me in, seems they were understaffed for the amount of people. The restaurant served also as reception and i needed to wait with my big bags at the entrance of the restaurant a long time until i got checked in

clean, comfortable and good host!
restaurant next door has good food!!

Really nice room, equipped kitchen, coffee maker, we also like the heating so we can dry our wet clothes. Great location in the mountains close to Pico do Areiro
We could use 2 bedrooms but it was great we could be there with both our kids (one small in the cot)

The location is spectacular. You're right in the heart of nature here, with forests, waterfalls, mountains, and incredible views all around, making it a great spot for anyone who wants to spend the day walking/hiking. The bathroom was good and the bed comfortable.
Not so convenient for anyone who doesn't drive. There aren't any shops nearby, so we couldn't take advantage of the kitchen facilities and had to eat out instead, which wasn't ideal as all the nearby restaurants closed at 7 in the evening.
