Gorgeous location.

The character of the hotel and the dramatic beauty of the location.
I gave the property an 8 simply because of the difficulty of getting there….but that is what we personally were willing to do to see such a beautiful and historic place. Others might not feel this way.

The hotel is well situated within the walled town. Reception on check-in was easy, friendly and professionally handled. The room was smallish but very comfortable and the on suite bathroom was clean with a spacious shower. We also left a small bag behind containing electrical cables an plugs for charging phones etc. The hotel called us and has promised to forward it on to our home address. Great service.
The route to the hotel once in the walled town was a nightmare! We were using a Sat Nav and followed its instructions for the direct route to the hotel - big mistake! It took us through very hilly and narrow streets with U turns in many places making the end of journey tiring and very difficult. To be fair the hotel called me once we were in the town and tried to help me navigate to them but with little success. Once we had arrived the receptionist told us an easier route to them was by following the internal road around the walled town and this was the road we took on leaving the hotel. Although it was still narrow it was MUCH easier than the sat nav direct route! So if you're driving to the hotel as soon as you enter the walled town turn immediately LEFT and just follow the wall and road around to the hotel.

Great host checked us in smoothly and made restaurant recommendations. Breakfast really good.
Don’t hTrust the gps to get you there once inside the city wall. Follow the wall around to avoid extra small streets.

If I could give this place 11 out of 10, I would. The check in lady, Anna I believe, was absolutely lovely, and continued to be so as bartender across the street in one of the only cafe/pubs in the hilltop town. We opted for the nicer room with its own terrace, and wow -- what a view. Exactly as the picture show, but more impressive. The room itself had a too-comfy bed and even a bathtub, but what wins is that view. It was too cold to stay out too long (even in July), but we bundled up and sat on the terrace anyway. Literally right around the corner (as in, a 2 minute walk) is the castle, and right outside our terrace was part of the old city wall overlooking Portugal; from the opposite side (the aforementioned cafe), you overlook Spain!
If you want to stay in a castle, this is the place to do it! There are only a few restaurants around, so if you're staying longer term make sure to bring a few supplies. There is free parking literally right next door, keeping in mind you do actually drive into the narrow-street castle complex, so having a smaller car is useful. Of our two week road trip in Portugal, this was our favourite stop. You basically have to have a car to get to it, but if you're brave enough to drive up to it (it isn't that bad, but be alert) and don't mind going a bit out of the way, it's well worth it.
Nothing!

You can not beat this location. Truly. Rooms were snug but comfortable with queen sized bed in ours. There was nice seating out back overlooking the valley and with an incredible sunset view. Very close to the castle and museum though the town is tiny so everything is close.
The only complaints we had were that the jacuzzi temp was not warm enough and did not warm up at all. And the wifi was terrible!

amazing location and view
the hotel should send more specific directions about arriving and parking inside the walls of the old town. we had to stop and phone… it would be easy for them to provide this detail upon booking or a few days prior to your arrival.

Wow! Spectacular views don’t even come close!
This place is beautiful and the hotel is definitely the best in town!
Small cute town, close to Ammaia the Roman fort which is a hidden gem ( in the UK it would be a national major attraction! But we were some of the only people visiting!)
Excellent room. Kindly booked dinner at a local partner restaurant in town (small town so you need to book!) challenging driving into town, but as we visited off season there was plenty of parking ( suspect that would not be the case in summer though!).
