The home is wonderful. Its cozy and has marvelous views of the cove from the deck. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you will need. It was a perfect layout for us. My elderly mother stayed in the bedroom on the first floor and had access to her own bathroom. My husband and I stayed on the second floor with our own bathroom. The rooms were flooded with natural sunlight and great air flow. We are excited to come back to Castine and stay again. We were close to town so we could see the sites and visit with our extended family. It was a truly magical week!
I highly recommend this home to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

We three stayed at the house for five nights. Because we arrived late in the evening, Constance left lights on and house unlocked. There was a vase of fresh flowers welcoming us. We spent a day in Castine, a day in Acadia National Park, and made two trips to Deer Isle and Stonington to meet friends and eat lobsters. We cooked a couple of meals and ate breakfast everyday in house. Everything worked as well as expected.

Constance is an exceptional host -- very responsive and very easy to communicate with. Her information-sharing about the house and Castine helped make our vacation so enjoyable.
The house is wonderful -- lots of natural light, a good view of a cove, and comfortable furniture. We could not have been more pleased.

Constance is a wonderful host. We had a mix up on our dates for arrival. She was more than accommodating and helping us out. The house is clean, well kept and a wonderful location. We have stayed here three times prior and definitely will be staying there again.

If you are looking for an authentic Maine summer cottage then this is it! My husband and I loved our two week vacation here. This cottage has the charm and quaintness of traditional Maine coastal summer cottages while also providing modern conveniences. There was plenty of space for us. The kitchen was well provisioned for a variety of cooking. The view from the deck was lovely….we very much enjoyed watching the tide come and go in Thatch Cove. The owners were very helpful and attentive. The cottage was very clean and made up when we arrived. The town of Castine was perfect. Active yet still quiet, there are many wonderful activities. Abundant hiking trails are all over along with a beautiful swimming beach that features incredible sunsets. Several dining options are available in town (highly recommend The Pentagoet Inn!). My husband and I have been vacationing in Maine for 20 plus years and place this property close to the top of the list of our favorites. We highly recommend!

Could be a beautiful property but very musty and noisy due to proximity to road.

We enjoyed our stay and loved the beautiful flowers and grounds. This house is a typical New England home that we Southerners were not prepared for. I did not realize that it did not have air conditioning. Being from the South, I just assumed that all houses have central heat and air now. Anyway, we got really hot in the afternoons. Parking several vehicles is somewhat of a problem. The dishwasher did not clean the dishes the first time we used it, so we had to wash dishes every meal. Also, there is a sharp corner on the brick border of the wood burning stove. We all stumped our toe on it, but my daughter hurt her toe very bad and lost her toe nail. Also, the downstairs toilet was either leaking or had extra condensation. We had to keep a towel around it. The view of the water was beautiful, but there is no access to it. Downtown Castine is super close and was fun to visit.

Property was beautiful and serene. The interior setup is well thought out, beds and couch extremely comfortable. Lots of character throughout. The only thing I missed was a blow dryer and the shower could have used a better closure. This stay truly transformed my stress to peace.

My family and I had a lovely stay in this antique home. It was so interesting to experience a home built in a different era, from the many connecting doors to the separate hot and cold water faucets. Every morning, the view over the cove was beautiful and filled with birds. Constance made sure we had all the information we needed to check in and experience the town of Castine. The home was a great jumping off place to explore nearby beautiful hikes in Penobscot Bay and Stonington. We also appreciated the delicious apples from the tree out back! All in all, a beautiful home and a peaceful stay.

While we had a great time in Maine and were out sightseeing most of the day, we do have some things about the property that were concerning.
Location: we knew about what the property consisted of by pictures and google views…. However nowhere was there a picture of a big barn next door or a greenhouse between the cottage and water…. That was disappointing.
Amenities: Kitchen cookware needed to be cleaned by us before using…. They are needing to be replaced. Lots of left over toiletries in closets that need to be thrown.
Doors and windows need need to be weatherized to keep bugs out..,, we had an invasion of Japanese Beatles.
Would we recommend this property as is? Probably not!

We enjoyed our stay! The house is in a great location, close to town. The property is quiet and peaceful. The house was stocked with everything we needed. Constance was communicative and helpful, and even popped in to help us figure out the TV! It is an older home, which we love.

We loved our stay at this cottage. It is very close to Wadsworth Cove which is a beautiful spot with a great beach. We loved having the farm next door and enjoyed buying produce, eggs, etc. we were there for about a month and wished we could have stayed longer.

My wife and I stayed in late July and found the home to meet our needs perfectly. We used it as a base mostly to attend family events in the area, but while at the place, we did appreciate the easy access to the town and quick walk to the beach. The wifi worked well to keep in touch, stream, and do a little work, and the comfy deck allowed for some wonderful star gazing. We didn’t use the kitchen much, but it did seem well appointed. The hosts were friendly and easily reached. No hesitation to recommend.

A lovely home in a beautiful location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely home in Castine. The home is very comfortable and we enjoyed the daily view of the cove from the living room and kitchen. We had everything we needed. It was a great home base for visiting Isle au Haut, and Acadia, and of course historic Castine (highly recommend the Scarlett tour around town) and the local beach. We also enjoyed walking the nearby preserves. Steven and Constance were great hosts, very responsive and helpful.

Beautiful spot for a get-away!
My husband and I stayed at the cottage in early October. The setting is so peaceful and beautiful and the owners are great! The cottage was exactly as shown. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed! Castine is adorable! We did lots of hiking, kayaking and went on a sail. So many cute towns to visit in this area!
After September many businesses close for the season or have limited hours so plan ahead for dining out and shopping.
We would definitely stay here again!

lovely cottage
We stayed or 3 nights and were very happy with the accommodations. Kitchen was well equipped. It was a good location for a day trip to Bar Harbor. The hosts were very kind and were able to give us lots of helpful hints on local places of interest. Definitely would recommend.

Beautiful Maine coast antique cottage
Comfortable, well-appointed modernized antique home. Good wi-fi, comfortable beds. Good kitchen. Gorgeous views from the kitchen, dining area, family room, and back deck. Great Milky Way views at night. The roosters next door greeted us at 4:30 each morning. The week we were there the farm next door ran a loud generator all day Mon - Fri, probably to power the nail guns for the barn they were building. This will likely not continue, but it affected our enjoyment of the deck. The town of Castine was a little too far away for an easy walk (1.3 miles). There is an excellent small grocery store about a mile away. We had a small glitch when checking in, but we’re able to resolve it quickly.

Good for Some; Not for Us
I won't necessarily give a bad review, but I do want to let future guests definitely realize this cottage is essentially an old farm house with older furnishings, outdated kitchen/bathroom fixtures, and in a semi-rural setting (not practical walking distance to anything). There is a bit of an odor (staleness) that likely just comes with an older home. If you're looking for a roomy, country-side home and don't mind the vintage nature, then this is a great house. If you're looking for something a bit more modern or at least refurbished, I would evaluate further. The communication and check-in process were easy/simple. The neighbors do have chickens and turkeys directly next door and the rooster starts crowing by 4 AM.

Family reunion in Castine
Lovely house and location. Very clean. Well equipped kitchen.
Only small drawback was on-going construction on barn next door.
Coziness of the house and great location compensated for the construction.

Wonderful house in Castine
The house was perfect! We had seven guests in total with plenty of room for everyone. There was a spacious porch with a great view of the cove. We made all of our dinners in the kitchen, and there was plenty of kitchenware available. This was a great stay, and I would highly recommend it.

FUN TIME!
My husband loved the old-style house! Built in the 1800's, it had a lot of character! Constance is amazing, always very quick to respond.
We were not in the house a whole lot during the day, but it did get a little warm when we were there. At night it cooled down to very comfortable sleeping temperatures. The beds were very comfortable.
We are from PA, so it took us a day to realize the local stores had very different hours than we are used to, once we learned how early everything closed, we planned accordingly. We spent a lot of time in Acadia and Bar Harbor, the hour drive wasn't too bad, we never hit traffic, however, one day we did a lot of hiking and walking, and that hour was a bit long after our activity.
The house sits back, off of the street, so it is very quiet. It is also only a few short minutes away from some cool spots: kayaking, some great eateries, and a few parks.
We had a very nice time and we hope to visit Maine again!!

Great stay
Wonderful stay! The home is as described, lovely to have bathrooms and large bedrooms on the second and first floor which made it to easy for two families to rent the home. Kitchen had everything we needed to make meals. Made use of the charcoal grill outside as well. Bedroom that I slept in (first floor) was very comfortable, nice bed and never too warm with fan and opened windows. The beach close to the home was nice as well. No waves, clear, and nice cool temperatures. Constance was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions. Overall a lovely stay.

Absolutely lovely!
We had a lovely stay in Castine, the house is so charming, and the view is beautiful. Castine is very centrally located and we made several daytrips, but we also enjoyed the little beach at Wadsworth Cove.
The house was well stocked with women's, and pantry essentials, and the kitchen had everything that we needed.
Also, the house was VERY clean!

Beautiful setting just outside Castine one of the most charming coastal towns we’ve seen. Cottage was quaint and comfortable with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Explored Maine in every direction from the cottage and found it all enchanting.

Great stay at a charming property
Stayed at this wonderful house for 4 days in early June. It was thoroughly enjoyable - the house is full of character and we had everything we need. The location is excellent too- it is a bit off the beaten track but is still handy to many of the attractions. Highly recommended.

My son and I enjoyed our time at Wild Rose. It was a quiet, peaceful location and provided plenty of space for us to relax. We loved sitting on the deck, watching the tide come and go. 'Memorable' visit in Maine
We enjoyed the privacy of this property's location. It sits in a lovely setting of beautiful trees and water views, about a 3 minute drive outside activities in town. The house was very clean, bright, comfortable / practical with its furnishings. The apple trees were flowing with beautiful, ripe apples which we used for delicious recipes that enhanced our 'Autumnal' experience. A memorable time and experience in this sweet home and lovely village of Castine.
