Amazing view of water. 6 cabins about 100 ft apart. Wonderfully quiet, but one noisy cabin neighbor could change all that. Cabins are quaint, old, great screened in porches, kitchens and fridges tiny.

The picture shows a nice wood burning fireplace, so I expected the small space would be very comfortable with a nice fire, but the firebox in my cabin was for show and only had a couple of small space heaters that took up space in the very small area and did not heat the cabin well enough that it was comfortable to stay in. Since there is no tv or internet (which was fine since we just wanted to visit), but had to sit wrapped in blankets and try to avoid the wind blowing in through the holes and gaps in the doors. Ended up going to bed to be under blankets early and rising early to leave. They did allow dogs, so the pugs had a good time. The small town of Castine is charming, but restaurants past season were only open for breakfast and lunch, so if you go make sure you bring food for dinner with you.
When heaters were on could not turn on lamps or plug in phone to charge without tripping the circuit breaker.
The owner was very responsive when I planned this stay, and it was at the last minute and it was very easy to book the cabin

Location is the only plus point if you are considering this place. Cottages are very dated and unkept. Kitchen though has everything but all the appliances and utensils are very very old and unclean. Limited hot water to bath so make sure u have a really quick shower. No wifi at all. We did informed the owners but no good as it was not fixed even next day. Couple of reminders didnt help. Overall not worth a second visit for me atleast.

The town of Castine is a 'Real town' with people who live and work there year round. There are however lobsters, sailboats to cruise on, kayaks, hikes, and a sweet weekly farmer's market.
We were lucky enough to be here during the Perseids Meteor Shower. My Kayak guide was jealous as I described the dark skies with the milky way clearly visible and the amazing show my husband and I were lucky enough to see. If you are a star gazer, this is your cottage
Each cottage has a panoramic view of the water, but also a view of the meadow which has good bird watching. If your taste is towards larger birds, we saw a mature and immature bald eagle down by the dock on our first day.
The tide is a bit extreme, but the dock is a good place to launch a kayak, and the bioluminescence in the water on a moonless night is spectacular.
Our dogs had a great time. Alan and Diana are dog lovers. They will welcome yours. Mine had a great time.
Plenty of blankets, hot water and a very well stocked kitchen. Rustic wood interiors, books, games, and the porch. I adore the porch with hummingbirds visiting the feeder.
The other guests were friendly and we all respected each other's privacy and peace.
If you want a real Maine vacation in an old fashioned seaside cottage this is the place
The internet is spotty. If you rely on internet for business and Absolutely Must be on the net and any particular time ask if they have gotten their wireless connection a bit more reliable before you book. After the first day I realized my clients would just have to wait a few hours now and then and it did me a world of good. They all survived too.

These cottages sit on a beautiful overlook of Hatch's Cove on the Penobscot Bay. My husband, adult son, and I loved staying in these rustic but very comfortable cabins. We came for a family reunion and stayed a week; would definitely stay again. The owners are very nice and make sure all is in working order. Quiet, private, and we actually loved a respite from TV--but wifi worked great!

These cabins were built 60 years ago and have been rather minimally maintained. Our cabin seemed clean but the interiors and furnishings were very dated. The surrounding landscapes offered pleasant water and nature views but the common area around the cabins was rough and unappealing. On the plus side the rental was dog-friendly, which we appreciated and the location was convenient to Castine.

BEST TIME EVER!!! The cottage was quaint, comfortable, cozy, rustic and charming with an amazing view, maintained and managed by two very friendly, accommodating and professional caretaker/owners who are knowledgeable about the area and its history. Would we stay with Diana and Alan at Castine Cottages again? Absolutely! On the day we departed, were extremely nostalgic already!

A great time overall. A quiet, quaint and well-equipped efficiency cabin. Comfortable and warm, with everything needed to make the stay enjoyable.

We were hoping for a place where the two of us could spend time talking, exploring, reading, making salads out of the excellent local produce, and just rocking on the porch with all the benefits of a splendid landscape. We got what we hoped. The cabin, appropriately rustic, makes you feel remote and leisurely, when in fact you're only miles away from groceries, museums, restaurants, hiking trails, and lots of other small towns each with big personality. The Sapps were fabulous hosts, highly responsive, generous with tips and suggestions and goodies from their gardens. I hope to be back soon.

Small cozy and quiet cabins with nice water views; close walk to dock; near high end grocery and quaint downtown; friendly hosts.
