Excellent location in the heart of Oxford.
4.1
Lovely building, great location.
Fantastic breakfast, probably the best you’ll find in a hotel
Great steaks.
Car parking expensive
Paid for half board but you have to pax extra if you want any sides to go with your meal, eg, order a steak with a suppplement charge, you get just a steak on its own and you need to pay even more for fries, veg or side salad.

Characterful and unique in good location

The staff on the whole were very pleasant and courteous. The lady on reception this morning seemed a little out of sorts.
Location was good
The lift not working in the annex and it being a maze to get to our room. There was only one lift working in the main hotel also.
The bar area and restaurant are soulless in the evening.
The shower was tiny bit with a huge shower head so no way of not getting totally soaked. The shower also had mould and mildew around the edges.
The plug in the basin didn’t work

This hotel is one of our favourites. Staff can not do enough for you. Clean rooms, spacious, has everything you need.
We could not seem to get the heating to work in our room.
4.1
La ubicación muy central cerca a todo caminando
Un poco difícil el acceso a las habitaciones superiores

The staff were excellent. So friendly & welcoming. Especially the concierge, he helped with a variety of queries we had on our visit.
The room was not in good condition and we were not told on arrival that the air conditioning wasn’t working in our room. The bathroom was not in a very good condition, the shower door didn’t stay closed and water went everywhere.
4.1
fabulous conversion of the old prison
Limited ventilation / shame no AC in the room but understand this is not possible due to prison construction

Had such a lovely stay! Staff were so friendly and attentive, from the reception staff, concierge, waiting staff and housekeeping, everyone we met were amazing! The room was clean and the bed really comfy. We stayed in the William Henry Kebbel suite. Lovely size room and bathroom. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. The uniqueness of the hotel just adds to your experience. Right in the centre of oxford walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do! Would highly recommend and will definitely return!
Nothing our stay was perfect...

I stayed in one of the cell rooms in the main wing. The room was spacious and the bed was the most comfortable I have experienced in a hotel.
All of the staff members were incredibly helpful and polite, truly making you feel welcomed and appreciated.
Next time I am in Oxford I will definitely be staying at the Malmaison again. Would recommend it to everyone. You won't want to leave!
4.1
The room was very spacious, comfortable and tidily kept. The staff (receptionists, restaurant staff, et cetera) were extremely helpful, and went above and beyond in helping with any and every question I had for them. Not only is the hotel itself extremely clean and well-kept in every way, but it also manages to combine the conveniences and cleanliness of a modern hotel with the beauty and aesthetics of the Victorian prison that it is originally converted from. The food and drinks not only tasted really good, but they were obviously very well presented and prepared too. As for the location itself, Oxford is a really lovely city where everything is nice and central, and the Malmaison reception staff can easily provide you with a map and give you exact details about where in the city you go (what streets you need to walk through to get to where, et cetera).
The only thing I think could have been improved upon was the fact that none of the lights (overhead lights or lamps) in my bedroom were working, but otherwise, the hotel itself was faultless in every respect and I couldn't recommend it more.

Looks much better in the pictures than it is and over priced !
Over priced didn’t sleep well very open to the public stayed in the annex might as well slept in the bus station
Very pretentious property £35 to park your own car
4.1
it was clean and tidy
The room had no air condition the fans given where old and not working if your paying over £400 per night you would expect the room to have air con. You cannot open the doors because you are above a bar which is extremely load until way passed 1pm.

Need refurbishment. Cracks in sink etc

I liked the original decor of the building, the room was lovely and the bathroom was excellent. Food was really good and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Although the old decor was nice, some little touch ups would have been nice. In the lifts etc with the floors scratched out. We also had a few hairs in our shower cubicle and no bath robes in the room already. Also thought the club room would have been in one of the original cell rooms that had been converted but we stayed in the governors house.
4.1
Lovely comfy bed. Well equipped room. Friendly accommodating staff. Great location.
The transparency of the cost of private parking. Otherwise property lived up to expectations.
4.1
Position great, slightly quirky hotel, large bedrooms
Room cold and heating off, service just not polished for such an expensive stay. Ask for bed to be made with sheet and blanket not Donna and they make it up with Donna and leave sheet and blanket for you to change.
Booking in slow with minor mixups, breakfast service slow with minor mix ups.

We loved the tasteful use of an old prison & the themed decor! We ate dinner & breakfast at the hotel. Both were very good!

Location was great and a very unique hotel.
Friendly approachable staff
Breakfast expensive for the amount of food especially when gluten intolerant so options limited
4.1
Lovely location, interesting historic building, quality of breakfast good.
Room tired and scruffy, service at breakfast not great
4.1
The room was great fun, to be sleeping in a cell. this was the main attraction and the iconic staircases and walkways outside.
The location was superb, based right in the city centre next to the most interesting museum in the castle which offered a discount to those staying in the hotel.
The breakfast was not really up to the usual standard as there was no buffet for the continental breakfast and you had to ask for each individual item.
Also the food on the menu for dinner was very limited and uninteresting.

central location, easy access, unique setting

very friendly staff made to feel really welcome and at home. unique surroundings. excellent meal in evening.
4.1
Well positioned hotel situated within the castle complex and only a very short walk from our Park & Ride bus stop. Easy access to most of the city's highlights, so getting around isn't a problem - it's all walkable from the front door of the hotel.
We stayed in a 'cell'. It was a great experience, very comfortable, and with all that you need included. The central spinal corridor linking the cells was perfect and was the scene of quite a few photographic opportunities for us, although there was no sight, sign, or sound of 'Mr Mckay' or 'Norman Stanley Fletcher', those wonderful characters in the 1970's TV sitcom 'Porridge'.
We're in our 40th year of marriage now, and I felt my wife needed a well-earned break! She told me she wouldn't forget it.

The position in the town is perfect.
Arrival staff could be brighter.
Our bathroom was cold and smelt damp.
I appreciate it’s an old prison but the room was very dark.
The bed linen was too small for the bed which in spite of this was really quite comfortable.
4.1
Historic location, fun & trendy decor, excellent beds, bathrooms and friendly staff.
4.1
The room was big for UK standard, The breakfast was superb and I didn't have any problem considering I am coeliac and lactose intolerant.
The price, but not because it doesn't worth it, it's just £300 for a room is a bit too much
4.1
Love the prison side, very comfortable and luxurious. Bar has the best banana cocktail I’ve ever had. Love this place and staff are so helpful.
Nothing, it’s perfect
