Clean, comfortable, spacious with a lot of natural light

toiletries, lighting, bathtub, sheets. Spacious, convenient, good facilities in the room. useful plug sockets decent pillows etc bed comfortable enough for a night's sleep and desk big enough to do some work.
very loud noises from plumbing (macerator? fan? ) and what sounded like an iron gate, at unpredictable intervals. stairs steep and hard to climb with wax polished handrails extra slippery

Excellent location in the heart of Oxford. The room was good and the bed very comfortable.
Despite being in an old building and right on a main street, it was extremely quiet and I got a really good night sleep.
Cannot think of anything to change.

Location. Clean and quiet.
We were placed in a room 52 narrow steps on a winding staircase. We had two heavy suitcases as we are away for 2 months. The staff did help us get the suitcases up but wonder why a room with so many steps to the third floor is let out. Perhaps a mention that the stairs would be difficult for people of a certain age!

Great location! An iron and ironing board was made available upon request.

Large bedroom and very convenient
I was aware before hand, so it wasn’t a problem, however, it is important that people are aware that what you get is your room. There is nothing else. Nowhere to sit and chat or food or drink.

Great location
No parking, mini bar or restaurant

Location is superb, could not be bettered. Accommodation is basic, but well enough appointed and given how expensive most Oxford accommodation is perfect for a budget break. You're paying for the location.. but isn't that really the point?
Stairs are super narrow up to the top floor, which didn't bother me but I can see it would if someone has mobility issues.

I love everything about this hotel!!!
The rooms are huge and beautifully decorated.
Its warm and cosy and the beds are divine - I don't want to wake up in the mornings!!
The shower is the perfect temperature (even though I prefer baths!!) - toiletries include a body lotion!!
Plugs are not necessarily in the right place and would be great if they had USB options.

The location is absolutely amazing. It was very comfy and exactly met our expectations. It almost gives you a flavour of the college rooms which surround you.
The windows could do with a bit more draft lining to keep out the noise from the street at night. The facilities are limited, but that’s what we were expecting.

Excellent location, excellent staff, clean rooms, amazing view of university from window, value for money.
No lift. Stairs are steep-ish and it can be difficult to take luggage up.

Fantastic location in the middle of Oxford. Room was large and had everything we needed.

It is really central. Doesn't do breakfast but there are plenty of cafés nearby. Staff very helpful. Stairs are steep.
I'd be happy to visit again.
No breakfast! but see above.

Estaba muy céntrico, cerca de todo. Limpio y equipado con todo lo necesario.
La habitación que nos dieron daba justo a las escaleras y era ruidosa. Pedimos cambio pero estaba todo completo.

One of the greatest stays of my life. When entering, we were met by a person from the staff who helped us get our very heavy luggage up the stairs. Then we were told we could check in 2 hours early. The room was neat and clean, with some biscuit and tea for refreshment, and everything we needed in the bathroom from body lotion to conditioner. We left the next day and we got help for the luggage again. Some of the kindest people. Thank you again.

The location was excellent, and the room was large and very comfortable. The only downside is the steep stairs, however, the staff's kindness and helpfulness make this issue marginal

Spacious, well appointed, view of Broad Street, opening window, not too hot, extremely helpful staff.

Great location in the centre of Oxford, surprisingly good sized double room. Basic room but everything that we needed, and was very clean. with many hotels in Oxford well over £300 on Saturday night it was relatively good value.
We were there in the 'mini-heatwave' at the start of September, there isn't installed air-con and the mobile cooler unit wasn't working. The hotel did give us an extra fan but the room was still extremely hot during the night.

Great central location, easy to find.
Bed had plenty pillows and good to be able to regulate heater temp in room.
Room 102 - next to reception which seemed to be manned almost 24 hours - could hear all the work and personal phone conversations of the staff and the comings and goings of guests from 4.35am onwards - not the most restful sleep.
Bathroom could be cleaner around the grouting of the shower etc and toilet could do with a deep clean. There was no need to replace the soap every day as it could have done the whole stay (environmental waste)
7.0
Location is great with quiet surrounds
Disturbances from other guests being inconsiderate e.g. Friday night someone returning 1ish having a loud conversation in hallways and even from within their room, early departure Tuesday morning
I think photos require updating as there is no breakfast provided and photos showed restaurant/cafe

This is a quirky hotel smack in the middle of Oxford but with a reasonable price. Staff were friendly and I had a large double room facing over Broad Street market. Having read various reviews on Booking.com I was not sure about this (or the Randolph...). However, I am very glad I tried this property because I saved money and had an excellent room.
The narrow stairs are hard work if you have large luggage (which I did) but it may not really cause much of a problem except in the case of disabilities.

Location excellent and a reasonable price for central Oxford.
Very small room and small double bed with tiny bedside tables. Also narrow bathroom but perhaps to be expected in a converted old building. Room seemed clean enough but when I split some water on carpet and put down a towel, a lot of grime soaked up.

Very clean, tea and coffee available
Xmas decorations around the stair banister

Lovely stay in this beautiful old property right in centre of Oxford - cosy v clean & comfy room, perfect location, great value & lovely staff. Loads of nice bars, shops, restaurants & cafes nearby & 10 minutes walk to station. Oxford is a beautiful city but expensive to stay especially in centre - The Buttery solves this problem & I will definitely be back!

Location was great , very central for everything
Room was at rear so no noise as previously mentioned
Loved our stay and reception held our bags after checkout time
Nothing not to like.
Its an old building so plumbing made some interesting noises.
Stairs could be a concern if you had mobility issues
We loved it and would stay again

Only the location was the only good thing about this hotel.
I am absolutely amazed that Booking.com are promoting this hotel on their website! The room we had was no bigger than a glorified cupboard and was so small you couldn't even open the bathroom door fully as the bed was in the way. The bathroom was equally as tiny and you had to have the door open the little it could just to stand at the basin. The electric heater only worked intermittently so we couldn't even get our coats dry after getting caught in the rain. We did ask on arrival if we could just cancel our booking and go elsewhere but were told we'd only get our money back if they could resell the room that day so were left no choice but to stay as we couldn't risk losing the money. I'd seriously reconsider if you are thinking of booking a room here as you might end up in the same awful one we had!
8.0
Access to the building and the prime location
Stairs went on forever
9.0
Location and friendly staff
The only draw back is that there are steep stairs to the reception and it could be troublesome for anyone who has mobility problems.

The location was excellent. Oxford is a very walkable city
Liked everything.

I had a 6:30 am bus to catch at Gloucester Green and the Buttery was a short, five minute walk, making it very convenient. The rom was ample as was the bathroom. Very quiet as well, which is not always the case in Oxford. Overall it was a good stay.
For some odd reason there was an unplugged dehumidifier in the middle of the room.
7.0
Excellent location, helpful staff
Minor things I need to mention, things I’d expect just to be just right in a room described as deluxe:
* toilet roll holder missing, with the broken stub sticking out of wall
* only one set of towels ready in room (though my request for an extra set was dealt with promptly
* the only source of ‘cold’ water was the mixer tap on the bathroom sink. Even when turned fully to the cold end of its travel, the tap was still dispensing warm water.
