Amazing place in the middle of the caldera.
Cecilio the owner was very helpful with information about hiking and cooked great home made food every evening, next to great local wine. A month after the trip, I appreciate a lot of these things in retrospect. The entire village was destroyed by the eruption of the volcano, and this guesthouse was built from scratch with great effort.
Water in the shower doesn't always work great, but we received a quick response

Very enjoyable stay with Helena (for the dinner/breakfast, even the 5:30 breakfast) and Cecilio, who helped me a lot with all my questions: arranged a guide (to share) for the Pico, organized my stay in Mosteiros, did reserve the aluguer from Sao Filipe. Nice typical round room even with a warm shower in the afternoon (after the sun has heated up the water).

I found the round buildings with white cone roofs and cinder tiled walls very attractive. The food was basic but plentiful and delicious. The owners attended our every need, giving us advice about climbing the volcano and finding other interesting hikes around the area. Responses online before arriving were excellent. They also made allowances for early breakfasts and packed lunches. Highly recommended.
The bathroom was in need of a new faucet. Ours was falling out of the sink.

Nice room on a typical round building of volcanic rock. Good view of the Fogo peak and always great food from the very welcoming hosts. Até à próxima, recomendo 👍

Had a great stay here. Very friendly helpful people who helped me arrange my transport there and trip up the volcano (ask about these in advance) and advised me for my hike down to Mosteiros. Would recommend lunch and dinner here (not that I get the impression there are many other options here!) - food is delicious and portions are incredibly generous, you won't go hungry! Room was comfy, there's electricity and wifi, which didn't reach into my room, but I could get it just outside, or in the main eating room. There was no hot water when I was here, so shower in the day time when there's sunshine to warm up in afterwards. It gets cold at night, but the bed was lovely and warm.

Location, Hosts, Food, Facilities .
The Location with views of Pico de Fogo was amazing.
The hosts were so helpful and friendly and really made us feel so welcome.
The food was delicious and traditional, mmm, just makes my mouth water thinking about it.Good local wine too.
You have everything you need there and the hosts organised transport to and from Portela and a guide to go up Pico de Fogo , all at very reasonable prices.
I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Casa Helena, again in the future.
Thank you so much to Ceci and Helena.

Absolutely amazing experience. The whole family was super friendly and nice. The food was excellent. The host arranged the next-day volcano tour for us and explained a lot about the village and the island in general. Loved every minute we spent there.

The owner is very helpful and kind. The food was delicious and authentic. I really recommend to eat there and to listen all the information given by the owner. The room is very clean with worm blankets as the nights are cold sometimes. We were totally happy to sleep there.
The water is cold but I think this is connected with the solar energy systems which is in the village.

The hosts were really friendly and helpful. Helena is a great cook so we ate very well. Cecilio was our guide for our hike to the top of the volcano. He is very lively and fun. The bedroom was nice and clean, same for the bathroom. There was a little patio outside with table and chairs where we could sit and enjoy the scenery. The hosts arranged taxis for us as well. They are resourceful and know everyone around. We had a fantastic stay in a very special environment. The climb to the volcano was beyond awesome. We also walked by ourselves to the small volcano and the scenery there was also spectacular. We highly recommend Casa Helena to other travelers.

Amazing location and very generous people. Helena cooked lovely for us and Cicilio and his son Nuno took us up the vulcano. It was not a problem for them that we booked last minute. Also, the prices were good. We would definitely recommend this place.
The shower is not perfect.

We stayed in the lava rock bungalow which was new and clean. The host Elena and her husband were great at arranging shared rides, guide. He speaks among others,English and has lived there all his life so lots of answers to your questions. The dinner we had was among the best we had in terms of quantity and quality in our past month of traveling
Couldn’t get the shower to work...
