We loved our stay!

Great central location and very tastefully decorated. We loved the art throughout.

The walls are a bit thin and we could hear the neighbours using their bathroom.

Lots of lovely special touches sets The State apart.

Great communication pre stay. I was late arriving and the host Luke could not have been more accommodating. The central location is ideal. Bed was comfortable. Rooms were spotless. The unique furnishings made for a warm and personable hotel experience.

Couldn’t really fault it.

Eclectic hotel great for relaxing

The whimsical decorating in the hotel matches the general atmosphere of New Plymouth. The location is conveniently located in the city center with plenty of dining options nearby. This also serves as a nice base for exploring the Egmont National Park and other nearby beaches. Luke was incredibly knowledgeable and was happy to assist with my questions, The hotel has free private parking nearby. Keep in mind that all rooms are located on the second floor and the hotel does not have elevators. This was well-advertised on the booking, but it deserves emphasizing.

Luke and his team were fabulous, meeting us at reception so accommodating and friendly, too the cleaners, fabulous at what they do….. because lets be honest…not everyone can clean( many out there think they can?!! The attention too detail 100% Decor was beautifully styled The use of a separate guest lounge was a great addition and again beautifully decorated The premises, from Front Reception throughout absolutely sparkling lovely and clean!!! smelt Devine as well 😊 happy with our room lovely crisp clean bedding location is good water pressure in shower brilliant!!!! top marks there

on a wish list I would put….. bigger bathroom, accessibility was tight …only room for one person at a time personally would prefer a firmer bed

Perfect location to explore town, close to shopping and walking distance to all the best restaurants. Free parking close to the hotel. Luke, the manager is extremely helpful (thanks for stowing our surfboard!) and has great recommendations for local dining. Would happily stay here again.

Such a treat

fantastic quirky hotel - beautifully decorated - very comfy bed - spotless - central to restaurants and nightlife.

Just a heads up - not a complaint - the restaurant downstairs is not part of the hotel and is only open for breakfast and lunch but plenty of other great places closeby for dinner - no secure parking - spaces are available at back of hotel

Funky inner city escape

The locality, the building, the decor, the efficiency and layout of the room, the lovely guest-lounge, the staff - so helpful and friendly, great recommendation for a dinner restaurant, lovely shower.

The only issue for us was that the room wasn't insulated at all really, from the street noise. We were woken by loud evening passers by, shop alarms, rubbish trucks, etc, several times during the early hours. Next time I will pack my ear plugs and have a better sleep :)

The decor is very cool and the location is very convenient. But most importantly, Luke is to be praised for his professionalism, efficient, and helpfulness.

The room that we had was a bit small .Not too much space to open 2 suitcases.

Unique decor, fabulous staff, but for the price I paid I expected a bigger room and bathroom.

There was no water in the room. While there were sugary drinks in the fridge along with chocolate bars, there was no water, although there was a kettle to make a cup of tea. Not sure where you were supposed to get the water from, the bathroom tap?

Lovely ambience in a great location but overpriced for the quality of the room facilities.

Great location, Luke the manager was very helpful and the shared lounge was lovely. The free guest laundry was a bonus.

The bathroom was tiny and essentially you couldn’t do much without the door being open. The air conditioning didn’t have an adjustable fan so was too cold and had to be turned off and the bed tilted down on the left. Not comfy.

Work trip

The decor of the hotel was absolutely lovely, we loved the room it was so nice and cozy, the paintings, the set up, everything was just amazing. We met 2 staff members very helpful and cheerful 😊.
