Quirkiness of the building. Staff excellent couldn't do enough if you wanted anything..
Room very spacious as we were away from main hotel area. Lovely lounge with separate bed room and bathroom.
Breakfast excellent. Enough choice.
Parking very tight to get into and out of parking area.
The amount of stairs / steps up and down in apartment/room.

Staff tried to be as helpful as they could. The room was nice and the food ok.
Like going back to the 80s. My salad was smothered in pink sauce, I had to scrape it off the food to eat it. No wifi.

All the staff we met were exceptional, starting from our welcome at reception through service in the dining room to breakfast, where our dog was even given a sausage.
Hard to think of anything

The bed was comfortable, no complaints there
Breakfast was very good and the lady who served us was so nice and wanted to please
Parking
We were in one of the outside rooms and were very disappointed. The bed was up a very narrow windy staircase which was very difficult during the night to get down to the bathroom without waking the other person up.
The walls are thin and you can hear next door, particularly the toilet flushing.
The door to the bathroom didn’t shut properly.
The bathroom floor was cracked.
To flush the toilet you had to pull up the handle first.
Extractor fan didn’t work
No battery in the smoke alarm - probably the most concerning point of all, especially as a building had burnt down opposite a few months back!
Gnenerally the room was a bit grubby and tired - the edges of the floor need a good deep clean as do the doors.
The sofa was uncomfortable and very small and the TV was very small and basic.
We were there in May so it wasn’t too cold but we could feel a draught coming in under the front door. I thinkit would be cold in winter. Heating is just a plug in electric heater with under floor heating in the bathroom.
During our stay there was no wifi. We asked staff members but they could not help us and one girl commented that hers was working! That made me even more depressed!
There was a sauna in the room which we didn’t use. It would be much better to have a better seating area and get rid of the sauna.
Generally for two people this accommodation felt cramped. We didn’t enjoy our stay and were glad to leave which is a shame

Rooms (suites) very spacious & comfortable. Nice food; very generous portions ( too generous for us).

Warm welcoming hosts. Very spacious, well appointed room, excellent breakfast and dinner. Particularly enjoyed the armchairs by the fire in our room! Plus, the little jars of fruit on the breakfast table were a lovely addition. The location was excellent, being in the town centre.
Vindolanda is just down the road. Hexham and Newcastle are all very accessible by road, bus or train.
If you own a large vehicle, then you may find the entrance to the rear car park challenging 😉
We have a Honda CRV , which was fine, any larger vehicle should probably give it a miss.
There is a public car park directly behind.

Fabulous setting near Hadrians wall. Lovely wee friendly pubs. Good food
All good

Breakfast was lovely
Nice big room with Vaulted ceiling
Good location
Bed comfy
Room was too cold for our liking. Suite was huge with vaulted ceiling and was heated by 2 x small space saving electric heaters, which didn't take the icy chill off the room temperature (snowing outside). Yes, we could have used extra blankets, but this doesnt help when the bathroom heater was also not man enough for the size of the large bathroom, so it was uncomfortably cold when getting out of the bath/shower.
Unfortunately, the sauna in our room was not working, which was disappointing, as I booked this hotel for that reason alone. Was hubby's birthday and he loves a sauna.
Bathroom needs updating (cracked tiles etc)

Beautiful building with lots of original features
Amazing breakfast cooked to order.
Fantastic, friendly and efficient staff. Christine was especially amazing with my children!!
Spa bath was much appreciated after a days walking.
Town centre location so some noise, bins, trucks, speeding cars etc due to old windows
Secluded private suite
Suite had everything we could have needed, they even offered plates for days we might want a takeaway etc
Wobbly tap handle, but only if I have to find a niggle.

The staff were super friendly.
My room was in the courtyard. It had a lovely sitting room with a bathroom at the rear (lovely big walk in power shower), and my bed was on the mezzanine. There was a velux window above the bed. I left the blind up and fell asleep looking at the stars.
The staff went out of their way and did an early breakfast for me. There was plenty to choose from. It was really tasty and set me up nicely for the day ahead.
I stayed two nights. Looking forward to coming back up. Will definitely stay here again. It exceeded all my expectations.

Great service all round, the room was one of the suites and was very roomy and comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and very efficient service.
The hotel is an amazing historic building and gives a wonderful feel of 16th century ‘Reiver’ accommodation and is an ideal base for exploring the Roman ruins and Hadrian’s Wall.
All staff were really friendly and helpful, great people!
Nothing!
