About this apartment rental
Coalface BnB is a purpose-built, private, light and airy space. It is tucked away on the Illawarra escarpment near the patrolled beach of Coledale and the dog friendly (off-leash) Sharky's beach, (named after a man, not a fish). The yard is fenced for furry friends.
Coalface is special as you feel miles from anywhere but it's just minutes away from surfing beaches, ocean pools, bush-walks, good coffee and food. When you are here you could be a million miles away, with none of the inconvenience of distance.
On the property itself, there are 7 acres of land for the adventurous to explore. The vegetation ranges from Eucalyptus to Rain-forest, with iconic Red Cedars, Sandpaper Figs and towering Turpentines. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of Lyre Birds, Wallabies and a vast amount of bird life, from tiny Blue Wrens to the matronly Wonga Pigeon as it waddles around foraging on the forest floor before reluctantly getting airborne.
Coalface B & B has been purpose-built for luxury accommodation. This means that convenience and comfort is built-in with parking right at the door, a private outdoor terrace separated from the family home by a brick courtyard wall, a hot &cold outdoor shower and bath, solely for guest use, a large indoor bath with views, a kitchenette and a separate entrance. You have a small orchard to wander and relax in and at night you can settle round the sandstone fireplace and enjoy an open fire under the stars.
Coalface BnB is an open plan studio style accommodation with a kitchenette and a private bathroom. The large bath comfortably overlooks garden and ocean views -lovely at dusk as the sky turns pink.... There is a large stacker sliding door opening from your room onto a sandstone terrace separated from the family home and garden by a brick courtyard wall.
When at Coalface, you are provided some cereals and 'pod' coffee or tea and eggs, when the chickens are laying, that you cook at your leisure. One of our favourite things to do is a refreshing morning swim and a late cooked breakfast in the garden.
Value, comfort, indoor and outdoor room to relax.... does this sound like what you're after?
There are wonderful walking tracks nearby, with the Royal National Park and the Wodi Wodi track to the north and Gibson's and Sublime Point tracks to the south. A 30km coastal cycling track is also nearby.
Coalface BnB is situated on the site of the historic No. 2 Bulli Coal Mine which opened in the 1890's.
Coledale is just over the Seacliff Bridge nestled between the magnificent Illawarra escarpment and a string of glorious sandy beaches. Coledale has a lovely new general store / newsagent, and an R.S.L. providing lunches and dinners Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun. There is a popular restaurant, as well as 2 cafes and a bottle shop.
Give your dog some 'holiday time' as well at the leash-free local Sharky's beach. (Pets by arrangement on booking).
Enjoy a beach-side BBQ at Coledale Beach, patrolled 7 days in the summer, with free BBQ's under the stately Norfolk Pines. Coledale hosts a vibrant monthly market (4th Sunday each month). Great food and crafts to be found.
Surfers will be glad to know we are a stone's throw from Tommo's, Sharkys and the Boiler room. Not much further to Peggy's, McCauleys and Sandon Point.

This property was fantastic to stay at. The gardens were gorgeous and inside the property was truly cosy and clean. The location is breathtaking as well. The beach is a short distance away, theres even a dog friendly beach very close by for anyone with their furry friend. The host was quick to respond to any questions and a kind person to interact with. Overall I recommend this stay to anyone looking for a relaxing and cosy getaway, and personally I can't wait to stay here again next time I'm in town.

This is a lovely little apartment in a fabulous garden setting just up the escarpment yet close enough to see and hear the sea. We were in Coledale for a gig at Thirroul and this place was perfect. Like being in the country but take always deliver! Baths, a hot plate and microwave, a BBQ and a big comfy bed. My whippet loved the secure garden and it’s so very quiet here. Would definitely stay again!

Great to sit outside and enjoy the garden setting in the sun or shade. Lovely extras for our stay from the host were oranges from their orchard and eggs from the free roaming chooks. Loved our stay at Coalface Boutique, idyllic, peaceful location amongst the bush within a short walk to the beach and eateries of Coledale, very cute, comfortable and clean accommodation with everything we needed, including the contained courtyard our dog really enjoyed. Making it an excellent dog friendly place to stay. Brad and Carol were friendly, accommodating and helpful and we appreciated the information on local dog friendly places to eat.

Loved the location, only 5 minutes walk from Coledale train station, uphill walk though.
Accomodation has everything you could possibly need. Wasn’t so sure about the kitchenette, but when I got I there found it had everything you could possibly need, including the induction hot plate allowing us to make a big breakfast.
The owner Brad lives next door and checked in to make sure everything was OK. He recommended some eating options and walks for us which was really helpful.
All the images on the site are a true representation of the accomodation and surrounds.
Loved the area and am now looking at property for retirement.
We booked Coleface as we wanted to bring our dog with us. The gated garden area was great.
Thank you Brad. It’s a great place.

What a fantastic location within walking distance to nearby beaches and cafes.
A cosy flat with ample space for the fur babies with a secure fence courtyard. The cosy bed was a great way to end the days and wake back up to the sounds of the local birds. Lovely couple who are ever so helpful.
Can't wait to come back again

Coledale exceeded our expectations. Nice big bed, clean, cozy living space, well stocked kitchenette, beautiful fenced garden so the dog (medium sized staffie) was able to snuffle about happily without worry of her wandering off. Short drive to beach

We really enjoyed our stay with a mix of sunshine, wind and rain. We met Carol who was lovely and suggested we help ourselves to the oranges and lemons from their fruit trees.
The kitchenette/bathroom just need a couple of extras such as tongs, papertowels and tissues. We would certainly stay again. Thankyou Brad and Carol

We travelled as a family of three to watch the Cycling World Championships and stayed here for two and a half weeks.
The location was stunning and the property had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The view from the yard was gorgeous and BBQs and drinks in the garden was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
The hosts provided us with fresh eggs from the chickens who wandered freely around the grounds as well as a range of breakfast provisions.
The property was spotless, beds comfortable and if we ended anything, the hosts were only a phone call away.
Walking distance from the local train station and a short drive to amazing cafes and restaurants in neighbouring towns, the location would be hard to beat.
Absolutely fabulous!

Beautiful property and garden.
It was so nice to spend some time out of the city.
Owners were very kind to reschedule the dates as it was unsafe to travel on the roads during the floods.
Thanks for hosting!

Not enough fresh towels, fridge too small, no ice tray, no tongs & no attention to detail!

This was a wonderful stay, the location was gorgeous, so close to everything and yet you get that sense of being in the bush. Carol and Brad were helpful hosts, they love in the adjoining house however provided a sense of privacy. The bath was lovely after a day of hiking and the kitchen came with a large frying pan and pot to cook basic meals which was fantastic. We will be coming back!

A very pleasant place to stay & law low. Ocean views from bed, with a cute yard for the puppy to run around & sniff. Accommodation was basic, but comfortable, and ticked every necessary box. Hosts were wonderful, and kept dropping around fresh eggs from the chooks when we ran out.
