This was a quaint and rustic cottage.
Fire heater kept it nice and warm, comfy beds, friendly host who offered us a late check out. It was peaceful and a nice escape.
Some things could have been better to really improve our stay -eg, crockery was all dirty and needed re-cleaning, one of the kitchen light globes was out, meaning we needed our head torches to cook, and one of the outdoor seats was broken. If these things were fixed we would have felt happy with our stay - sadly without it, the place felt a little unloved and cost more than we felt it was worth. Hopefully it's restored to its former glory soon.

When you need to get away from the world and enjoy the silence of nature. Then this is it. A wombat's playground at night. Unplug here.

Such a beautiful little cabin stay away from reality. Was just what we needed to reset ourselves. Absolutely loved it !

The cabin was quite remote, but fully equipped with everything we’d need. We’d been warned the fridge was on the smaller side, but it was perfectly adequate for our needs. The weather was very changeable, but the living room was cosy and comfortable for relaxing and reading. So enjoyable to be away from the city sounds, with birdsong the only sound. Slept very well and left feeling refreshed.

Everything you could possibly want from a weekend away. The property was clean and well equipped, the hosts are super thoughtful and considerate. I can’t wait to come and stay again. I have never felt sadder leaving a place! It was so calming and beautiful. Sally, thank you for your kindness!

Sally was very attentive to little details (reminding us that the children will have to share the double bed or that there's no microwave) which helped a lot in planning for the trip.
The place is very clean and you can't get better fresh air!

This rustic cottage catered to all of our needs to enjoy a quiet few days in forest surroundings. The wildlife did not disappoint with Lyre birds and wombats spotted. Inside the cottage was clean and comfortable. Was a peaceful stay.

My adult daughter and I had a really lovely stay in this delightful little rustic cottage. It’s very comfortable and is in a gorgeous peaceful location. We were surrounded by birdsong and were lucky enough to see 7 wombats on one of our walks down the local road at dusk.
We found the beds very comfortable, as well as the sofas in the lounge room. We didn’t use the fire but very much appreciated the heaters which worked very well.
The kitchen is well equipped and had everything we need to cook simple meals.
Sally was a great communicator and gave us all the information we needed for a great stay. We loved the delicious eggs she kindly left us.
I would be very happy to stay here again.

Property was small and didn’t fully resemble the pictures
There was moss on the outer walls which due to lack of care causes a damp smell inside.
My wife and I decided to find somewhere else after been there for half hour.
Place needs a bit of TLC and not semi pro photos to make it look better

Red Dog cottage is a cosy retreat in a very special spot on the NSW south coast. While it is easily accessible from Berry, it is also removed enough to feel like a proper getaway. The view is spectacular, and while we weren't so lucky, I believe wombat sightings are frequent. The cottage is clean, well maintained and provisioned. It is quite small, so if more than two folks are going to stay at the same time, know that it's going to be very cosy. It's also important to note that the two beds are doubles rather than queen sized, and tall folks might struggle with the length of the bed. Otherwise, Red Dog is delightful!

Cute cottage. Nice location though bring up high it does get some wind. The driveway is fairly long and narrow, though OK.
We didn't meet with the owner except via email.
Kitchen is small and fridge door not great because milk can't go into it. Not much clothes storage in bedroom.
Small living room was pleasant and comfortable with a wood burning stove as well as electric heating. Verandah was nice but the weather was a bit chilly. It was great to be able to take our labrador.

My family of 4 spent a very comfortable long weekend here. The cottage was clean and rustic with personality hidden in every corner. Amazing rainforest location with wildlife scurrying by and only a 15 minute drive to Berry or Kangaroo Valley. Sally, the owner, was very responsive and welcoming.
Do yourself a favour and experience this hidden gem. We will be back.

Perfect getaway when you need to escape the hustle and bustle. Nestled amoungst rainforest, yet close enough to kangaroo valley and berry this place ticks all the boxes. The fireplace keeps you cosy and the hosts attention to detail and communication are second to none. Will definately be back.

My partner, dog and I loved our 3 night stay at Red Dog. The setting is just stunning and we enjoyed sunset, rain/mist and hot weather - it was all great. The place was really clean and cosy. I even had my first wombat sighting from right in the backyard. The Cambewarra lookout cafe is just up the road for a nice view and coffee. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

It was exactly what we needed after the chaos and stress of the last while - serene, green and isolated. Sally was really helpful and attentive to our needs and we loved the coziness of the cottage. The cottage was perfectly located between Kangaroo Valley and Berry and not to far from the ocean so everything was a pleasantly short drive away. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to get away.

Wonderful rustic cottage in beautiful rainforest. We loved sitting on the porch relaxing. Sally was amazing, and we loved the fresh eggs :-). We saw wombats, two types of bat, and many types of birds. We lit the fire on a cold evening and it was so cosy! The kids had a ball playing in the grassy areas in the daytime. There was even a species list in the information folder to help you figure out what you were seeing :-). We LOVED it.

Red Dog is our favourite getaway escape. The isolation and quiet, that is only broken by birdsong and cicadas is such a rejuvenation. Just about everything needed is in the cabin with lots of really nice small touches here and there. It's not just practical but really enjoyable. Looking forward to our next stay.

Tiny little cottage. needs re-modeling. Problems:* Bed to small and we are the average size adult.90kg & 55kg*Bathroom needs re-thinking, not practicable for use.*No pathway from car to front door, not good in heavy rain walking through mud with your gear.

What a beautiful spot! Stunning surrounds, easy to get to and a wonderful cottage to stay in!
Sally was great at giving clear directions to find and access the property. The cottage itself is cosy, clean and was ideal for the four of us to sit back, relax with a glass of wine and get stuck into out jigsaw puzzle.
We went for hikes nearby and were happy to spot a wombat at dusk!
Would definitely recommend for a weekend away in the bush.

Loved the bush location of this property. It was so lovely hearing rain on the roof and waking to the many and varied bird calls. We had the most relaxing time and would recommend this property to anyone looking to get away from the city and back to nature, even just for a weekend.

Totally wonderful rural retreat, quiet, wonderful surroundings beautiful cottage a wonderful treat on the sad weekend of a friends funeral to have somewhere so lovely to go to afterwards we will be back!

Peaceful location with rustic appeal that is perfect to switch off and sit back and have a wine. The fire was an added bonus and plenty of room for the pooch to explore. Couldn't fault the place really, although double bed was an adjustment being 6ft 2 but not a deal breaker as we found it to be the perfect little break. Close to Berry which has plenty of cafes and worth a visit.

This lovely cabin is situated amongst trees and ferns in a rainforest tucked away from the rest of the world. There is another cabin at the bottom of the hill but it is situated just far away enough for a feeling of complete privacy. We stayed for 3 nights with our little dog who loved pottering around the house and grounds and was clearly intrigued by the smell of wombats and other creatures she'd never smelt before! We filled our days driving to the nearby towns of Kangaroo Valley and Berry for lunches, took our dog for walks in Bomaderry and Shoal Haven Heads, just sat by the fire with wine and cheese, soaked in the big tub to get warm and watched a few movies. Cambewarra Lookout is just 5 minutes drive away for fabulous views and there is a cafe there which we planned to go back and try on our last morning but the gale force winds that day made sitting out on the veranda not very appealing! The winds were so strong all night that we ended up with a blackout for a couple of hours in the morning but otherwise the trip was perfect!
10.0 / 10.0
It’s a perfect place for a weekend get away due to its close proximity to two nearby town skips and also for a longer stay as the cottage is well equipped with everything you need. Either way one can have an unforgettable peaceful experience amongst the forest filled with bird songs and other little critters. Not short of activities you can do in the surrounding areas or just put your feet up back at the cottage and watch the sun set behind the trees.
