Surrounded by emerald green forest, the property oozes old world charm; elevated by the gracious hospitality of the owner and staff. The highlights include; the large panel glass windows in the rooms that give panoramic views of the lush green forest, and the hotel onsen. There are two baths, a hot one indoors and a cold outdoor bath that it open to the forest. You can watch the mist roll down the mountains and engulf trees from the outdoor bath. This lodge is a hidden gem.

We had a perfect stay at the lodge. The food and the service was great. The onsen was amazing. The room was really comfortable and the public areas are really nice to relax in. it’s a short drive to all the ski lifts. We will be returning!

Nice hotel in the mountains with very hot onsen. The owner is very kind and supportive. He picked us at the station because we didn’t have a car. This is a remote location so coming with a car sure is easier. Dinner was excellent and a lot to eat. Room was Japanese style, it was big, with large windows to see the trees in the forest. Very cozy living area with a lot of books and other things to see.

Tsubame Highland Lodge is in a secluded mountain valley and surrounded with beautiful snow-clad scenery in winter.
The staff were very friendly and they put in a huge effort to clear our cars of snow , starting at 6am in freezing storm conditions.
Dinner was delicious and the menu changed each night.
a big thumbs up from me.

The lodge is in a forest at 1000m altitude. There is deep snow all around in Winter.
Our room had a beautiful view over the forest.
The lodge has its own small indoor and outdoor onsens.
Full board is provided. Dinner and breakfast are Japanese style with good quality ingredients.
They get a lot of snow, a storm cycle can easily bring 50cm of snow overnight so be prepared to dig your car out in the morning, although the access road is cleared daily.
Pro or con, depending on your perspective;
the owner speaks very limited English
there is no public transport nearby, so you need a car, and in winter an AWD vehicle is helpful.

So much snow! Felt like we were at the top of the mountain in this older style hotel. Included meals were huge and a curious, but good, mix of traditional Japanese and western food. Our room and the main sitting area were lovely spaces and an unexpected bonus was the floodlight trees and snowfall after dinner.
The owner very kindly drove us down to Akakura Onsen when we left.
We arrived in blizzard conditions and had to take a taxi from Myoko station which cost about 8,000 JPY.

It's out of the way from everything, and they provided a shuttle to different ski resorts. It's a very cozy ambiance and very relaxing stay! They serve you more than enough food in their meal sets, and the staff was very welcoming, definitely went out of their way to make you feel at home.

The lodge is in a beautiful location in the mountains. The view is breathtaking. If you like to have a traditional Japanese experience this is the right place. We booked half board and our breakfast and dinner was exceptional.. The owner and staff is very friendly. The lodge is rustic and feels like home. We had a wonderful time and will stay again.
Nothing not to like. Everything was wonderful.

The hotel is situated in the middle of nowhere. It is losted in the middle of the forest in mountains. That was an ideal place for our family to enjoy Christmas 2020 during the lockdown of COVID-19.
The hotel must have a long and interesting history but as we don’t speak Japanese we didn’t get a chance to learn about it. There are some decorative items that tell about connection with Swiss. Anyway is is nice decorated with style alps chalet. There is a nice hall with some sofas and cheminé but we didn’t enjoy it a lot because of the COVID situation.
The great advantage of hotel is definitely the big windows with views of the snowy forest. It is amazing.
The food was good, a good mix of western and Japanese kitchens. Western breakfast with coffee and delicious croissant was a good surprise for us.
The owner didn’t want to change the room to the one we previously stayed in. Even though the hotel was almost empty.
The amazing outside onsen surrounded by stones which you can find among the photos of hotel doesn’t belong to this hotel and in fact is situated in the Tsubame village which is situated approx 700 meters from the hotel and closed by winter. Is was frustrating news for us as we planned to soak in the hot water and and enjoy a beautiful view of the snow around as warm saw in the pictures. There is a small outside onsen in this hotel but the temperature is +25C only and we couldn’t enjoy it. There is also a basic inside onsen.
