Great location, cozy apartment, kind host, clean and well-equipped. Close to beach, supermarket, restaurants. Perfect for solo or couple stays. Definitely recommend!

We spent two months in Mata’s apartment and it was a wonderful stay.
She is a very good hosts, regularly brings freshly laundered bed linen and towels and is always on hand with help and advice when needed. The small apartment has everything you need and the mango tree in the garden provides pleasant shade and the fruit is very tasty. An additional plus point is that you can use the pool area at Sunset Crest free of charge. The pool and beach are just a few minutes' walk away, as are the supermarket and the bus stop. We can highly recommend the accommodation and would come here again at any time!

Relaxing, clean, safe, and comfortable
I have been coming to Barbados since the early '80s and used to live in Sunset Crest, so am very familiar with the island and the area. I chose to stay at this apartment based on the location and the reviews, and it did not disappoint! It was safe, cozy, quiet and relaxing - a perfect home base for me during my one week stay.
Mata is a kind, helpful and patient host - my arrival and departure times were a bit unpredictable as I was depending on others for a ride, and Mata was understanding and flexible. She responds quickly to text messages and is right next door, but is not intrusive - a perfect host.
The apartment was spotlessly clean on arrival and had everything I needed for my stay. As one of the unlucky people whom mosquitos love to feast on, I was grateful for the window screens and the solid door that could be closed to keep them out. The villa is set back in a beautiful garden which gives it a feeling of tranquility and privacy, and the outdoor area is a perfect spot to read, enjoy a glass of wine, and/or listen to the rain and the tree frogs singing at night.
The villa is close (as in minutes of walking) to the supermarket, beach, restaurants, fruit stand, and shopping. A couple minutes of walking and you can be enjoying a morning ocean swim, or a beach sunset. I definitely plan to come back in the future for longer stays. The villa is perfect for a solo traveler but would also be great for a couple as well.

Home from home
Great location with access to Beach House being a fantastic bonus. In the apartment everything you need for your stay. Beds very comfortable and shower nice and powerful. We were more than happy with the accommodation.
Unfortunately Mata wasn't able be there during our stay and so we were looked after by her son Ambi and daughter in law Lavern both of whom were fantastic. Lavern even drove us around on the evening we arrived to explain all the bars, restaurants, shops etc, she was really lovely. Communication was spot on throughout and Lavern booked our transfer taxi for us.
If you're reading this you're obviously considering using this fantastic apartment, book it. It's a home from home with the loveliest people you would wish to meet.
Many thanks to Ambi and especially Lavern. Mata, you can go away more often because you leave your place in fine hands! Thank you

Enjoyed the stay
Mata is an amazing host! She helped us to arrange taxis and provided information about the island. She was always available if we had a question (and we had lots of questions :) ). The unit is as presented online. Had everything we needed. The beach is a few minutes walk away. There are several restaurants that are within walking distance. Although we never took a bus, the bus stop is very close. There is a fruit stand a minute away (right around the corner) with some good local fruits and vegetables. I would recommend getting to the beach by the Surfside Restaurant (not from the Beach Club) and walk to the right.
Overall, really enjoyed the stay! Thank you Mata for letting us stay at your apartment.

Excellent Stay
Overall my stay was excellent and I really enjoyed the apartment and the privacy it offered. Mata was the prefect host who always ensured everything was to my satisfaction. She was warm and friendly, I would recommending to any of my friends who's looking for a place to stay during a trip to Barbados. The location was great and had everything I needed from banks to the beach location. I would diffidently stay again on my next trip to Barbados in the future.

Excellent hosts in an excellent location
We arrived at Mata's apartment after a long journey and were immediately offered two cold beers! Mata's hospitality is exemplary and her apartment was just what we needed in a good location, just a short walk from shops and restaurants. The pool is also only 5 mins walk away. I was particularly impressed by the comfy beds! Great stay, thank you Mata!

Great gem in Sunset Crest
Just finished a 4 day stay here. Super convenient. Right behind the Massy and Chattel Village so easy access to groceries and coffee. Mata the owner is very kind and helpful. Highly recommend it here.

Excellent location and wonderful host
Mata and her family are delightful hosts and nothing is ever too much trouble. The apartment is clean and in an excellent location. We very much enjoyed our stay and plan to return in the future - a common thing for Mata's guests I believe.

Holetown Hideaway
The property is as described. Mata was a welcoming host and always available for advise or just to talk. The apt was clean, quiet, and secure. The only noise was from the many whistling tree frogs at night. We like to eat at home so we bought our groceries from Massey's down the block. We ate once at a restaurant on the beach. The food was good, but a little pricey. We also bought lunch one day from a local food truck (recommended). The cost is much lower than eating at a restaurant, and the quality is good. Holetown has beautiful beaches. We snorkeled over a shipwreck one day, and a turtle sanctuary another day. We also went to Oistens on Friday to drink some beer and have meal at their famous fish market. My only disappointment was the lack of live entertainment. We used public transit and it took about an hour. The bus was very crowded but it was a fun experience. Holetown is a great place to go to relax. It's not a party town.

Simply Wonderful!
This is a fantastic location!! Adorable setting; private and close to everything. Mata and her family are very welcoming and helpful with having a taxi waiting at the airport to offering to assist with any bookings we had. Fresh fish sandwiches beside the fruit stand around the corner, a short walk to the beautiful beach, the beach house, restaurants (Zaccios is our favorite), grocery store & shopping are all close by. The house is clean and simple, and everything works great – ice cubes; no problem keeping up with rum & coke;). Fresh towels were also provided mid –week. Mata is so thoughtful and it was such a wonderful experience staying at her villa. We will definitely be returning to this location.

A wonderful home away from home
Mata's apartment is perfectly located in Holetown. We spent a month in Barbados and tried a few different locations - Holetown was perfect for us. Everything you need is close by and buses run through every few minutes if you want to explore further. The apartment was spotless and the yard was swept daily by Mata's son. It is a very comfortable and roomy space. Mata is a wonderful hostess and made sure that we enjoyed our time both in her apartment and in Barbados. When we had to leave she even donated a piece of luggage for us to save extra expense on the plane! We already miss our time with Mata and look forward to coming back!

Home away from home
This was our fifth visit to Barbados and without doubt our best. 55 Hibiscus Avenue is a perfect place to rest and recuperate, and on this paradise island. The bungalow itself is set in a tranquil and beautiful tropical garden and has everything you could need. Comfy bed, big fridge, fully equipped kitchen, cable TV.....and, in Mata and Bedo, friendly thoughtful yet inconspicuous hosts. Mata's samosas and philouri and Mango Chutney are not to be missed and you might even be lucky enough to party with them at the Beach House....a fantastic private members' facility that is such a bonus for guests. The house is perfectly positioned for the beach, the supermarket, and all the bars and restaurants of Sunset Crest and Holetown. Don't miss Surfside for a perfect sundowner on the beach or Just Grillin' for delicious, authentic and good value Bajan cooking....for a special occasion you can't beat Drift for cocktails and Tides for dinner. Thanks Mata and Bedo....we're still trying to work out how to get back in April!

Brilliant :-)
This was our first visit to Barbados... We absolutely loved it!! The apartments were great - they are set in lovely tropical gardens and have everything you would need for a self catering holiday at a reasonable price! We visited several amazing places on the island, but Holetown was definitely our favourite.. We would definitely recommend it! The apartments are perfectly positioned for all amenities - close to lovely beaches/ supermarket/ shops/ cafes/ bars/ bus stop etc. Also, the beach house is just across the road - Its a lovely private swimming pool/bar for Suncrest residents :-)
We would like to say a huge thanks to Mata & her family for letting us stay in the apartment - Mata was a wonderful host & went out of her way to make us feel at home on our first visit to Barbados. She gave us plenty of information on the best things to see and do around the island & it was great to have a couple of drinks with her before we left. We would love to stay again sometime soon!!
Thanks again,
Lindsay & Michelle x

Perfect Spot - Perfect Location - Perfect Hostess!
Mata and family, Thank you for a wonderful stay during our week there. My daughter and I had "The Best" time during our stay in your apartment.
Barbados is like our second home; we vacation there many of times but this was the first time we stayed at the Hibiscus Apartments in St. James. The apartment is in the best location … everything is nearby i.e., banks, gas station, mall, restaurants, supermarket, etc. Plenty of things near the apartment. My daughter and I especially loved the use of The Beach House across the main road during our stay. This was the first time having use of a pool while visiting the island. There is no need to rent a car as public transportation is very nearby and readily available to take you anywhere on the island for Bajan $2.
There is a supermarket nearby but since I’m familiar with Barbados, I shop at Jordan’s in Speightstown, the next parish up since it’s cheaper than the supermarket nearby. There is also a Barbados $3 store in Speightstown which I love to visit first for the little things. I especially love how the Bajan food trucks are nearby the apartment with locals selling full course meals at Bajan $12-$14 which includes fish, chicken, lamb, rice, macaroni pie and salad just to name a few. These meals are 2 meals in 1 so there is no need to cook ... Meals on Wheels.
The beds in Apartment 1 are extremely comfortable and relaxing. Thank you Mata for being the exceptional hostess. Mata had arrangements for pickup and return to the airport and is a resource of things to do, etc. ... very accommodating. We fell in love with Mata and especially enjoyed the conversations. I look forward to spending future trips with Mata and her family. I can see myself living in the apartment for the entire summer. I loved staying at the Hibiscus Apartments. It’s kind of tucked away with privacy and is so relaxing. Mata, you are a pleasure and a really sweet lady.
Fondly,
Cynthia

pretty apartment close to all amenities
We stayed for 5 nights at the Hibiscus apartments and thoroughly recommend it. It is set in pretty gardens with an outdoor area for eating or chilling in the shade. The apartment is very well equipped, clean and comfortable. It is within five minutes walking from the bus stops, beautiful beach, supermarket, banks etc. Sandy Lane is accessible at low tide and there are lovely bars to enjoy a sundowner. Mata is a lovely lady who welcomes you into her home, nothing is too much trouble, she can arrange taxis and provided us with much welcome beers after a long flight/travel to the apartment. She responded promptly to all emails and was the perfect host. We are sure we will be back again, Hibiscus apartments provide a true welcoming Bajan experience, highly recommended.

Perfect all around vacation spot .
Hibiscus is a charming apartment with all the necessities to provide a comfortable base . It is clean, well stocked, beds are comfortable, cable TV and internet. Location is unbeatable. Short distance walk there are stores, bank, restaurants, beach and a really fantastic beach club. The beach here is very sheltered, with lots of sand and calm waters. It is flanked by rocky shallows that are perfect for snorkeling. Waters are clear and blue and on a really busy day there may be 10 other people on the beach. Beach club provides lovely pool, free loungers, chairs and tables, bathrooms with showers, and there is always iced water available. Everything is clean and well cared for. The bus stop is right beside the club and buses come every 5-10 min and for $1USD you can travel quite easily throughout the island.
All of this was made even better by Mata and her family. Mata is a lovely host. She is genuinely warm and caring. We felt welcome and safe. Mata was super at helping us decide on our site seeing plans, pointing out best reasonable dining options, local events that we might enjoy attending and organizing airport pick up and drop off. She was always available if you needed anything at all.
Mata we thank you,
Hoping to come back soon Elena and Ehor

Nice little spot
My daughter and I stayed at this small, minimalistic one bedroom cottage for five nights. Mata, the owner was very accommodating, knowledgeable, kind and friendly. She was quick to help with whatever we needed. We were close to the grocery store( which by the way was pricey) bank and shops. We had access to the beach club across the street which was nice treat. The property is in a really good location. The picture shown above is an actual representation of the apartment. However, it is a bit dated and needs a little TLC but the price can't be beat! Barbados is quite expensive!! Thank you Mata for all your help!!

Charming villa with very good locationl
We had a great vacation in this beautiful place. The villa Was perfect with everything we need. We where close of the bank, grocery, shop, restaurants and of course the beach. We also have an access to a beautifull pool and a bar. There was a local bus who pass each 5 minutes to go visit all around. Our hosts were very kind and helpful. We appreciate everything and we would kike to go back.

Perfect Place and Locatio, Excellent Hosts
From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Mata greeted us with a friendly smile and all the necessary information we needed to make our vacation enjoyable and safe. We stayed in both apartments. Hibiscus Apartments are very well equipped. Mata is here to answer any questions you may have. She offered us great suggestions of where to eat and island attractions. The location is superb. It is just minutes from the beach, bus stop, grocery store, medical center and many great restaurants. When staying at Hibiscus Apartments you have access to the private club. This club has a wonderful pool, lounge chairs, lockers, showers and washroom facilities. It is located next to the Beach House Restaurant which has good food and drinks. Mata also arranged to have us picked up and dropped off at the airport. This was perfect. No hassles. Thank you Mata, Bedo and family for sharing your home with us and making our stay in Barbados a very pleasant one.

beautiful home, best location,
My family stayed for here for two weeks. The house was and gardens were beautiful and included everything you could possibly want. The location was absolutely perfect, two mins from a wonderful beach. plus close to bars, restaurants, mall etc. Added to this we had exclusive access to the beach house hotel across the roux which had a rage family swimming pool. A family run business that we found most accommodating. Being our first time in Barbados the Mata (the owner), gave us advice on places to eat, places to go etc.
We would most definitely recommend this home to anyone wish to visit Barbados. it would appeal to families, couples, and the 50+. In fact it has been less that two weeks that we have been back in England and we are already planning to come back next year. We just adored the property and found it to be in the perfect location.
I can not fault Mata for customer service who accommodated our every need. Thank you Mata and family. We will see you again.
