The house is beautiful, family owned business that treats you very nicely. Views are stunning and you can see the care and time they have spent setting the space.
The location. Not many ubers want to drive there, as it is hilly. You will find a uber, but will take long. Not possible to walk at night in the secondary streets of santa teresa

The view is fabulous, staff are super friendly and helpful- especially Chris! It’s clean, comfortable, and had an excellent breakfast. Would stay again!
There seemed to be many rules posted about what not to do. I know this is necessary sometimes but it felt excessive.

Amazing breakfast and view, location, staff.
Was honestly disappointed with the room given what we paid and the fact that it claims to be 4 stars. I booked a “king suite” for two people, which turned out to be a very small and basic room, minimal furniture (not even a simple desk/table), the window was blocked bunch of tall plants that prevented the sunlight from coming into the room so it was perpetually dark. The bathroom was quite tired and def needed a lift — there was mold on the ceilings, rusty fixtures, toiletries refilled in old shampoo bottles, frayed towels.

Breakfast and the views.

Superb bed and breakfast in an ancient villa of Santa Theresa that has an i teresting hisotry (Gethrude's). Adrianna is paying attention to tiny details and making sure that everything is perfect. Our room was splendid and had an amazing view on the Sugarloaf. Bedsheets were comfy and bathroom renovated and superclean. Excellent breakfast served at the table in the dining room with the same amazing view! The only weak point is the location of Santa Theresa (hilly, narrow cobbled stone roads), which makes the access uneasy. Uber and taxi drivers are sometimes reluctant to take the ride.

Absolutely amazing host, shining with energy and loving her hotel. Adriana is well aware of what is going on in the city and is happy to share some priceless tips.
We have stayed at Gerthrudes twice, now and 5 years ago. On our first trip, thanks to the host’s ideas, we could reshape the second part of our trip outside Rio de Janeiro and enjoy the country despite somewhat unwelcome weather conditions. And this time, we stayed in the city one week before the carnival yet were very lucky to learn from Adriana about its dress rehearsal which, on top of that, was even free of charge.
Great location close to the center of Santa Tereza, a relatively safe area that has its own very distinctive character, different from that of Ipanema and Copacabana, and definitely worth experiencing.
Impressive view over the city from the breakfast terrace, kind of which one could rather expect from a favela. The breakfast itself included various choices and was delicious.

Everything! We had a great stay in Santa Teresa. The B&B has an amazing view over the city, a pool to cool down after a hot day in the city and outdoor and indoor spaces to sit and rest. The room is comfortable and clean, the staff are very kind and helpful and the breakfast is the best we had!
Nothing.

The pictures do not lie, breakfast at Gerthrudes is amazing and huge! Loved the room and the view is just breathtaking. Huge thankyou to the whole team for being so welcoming which was so lovely as a solo traveller.
The one challenge I had with my stay was finding Ubers or taxis to take me home late at night. Because the location is very close to Lapa by distance but up a very steep cobbled hill so many drivers rejected my attempts to get home as the fare is low but the effort to get up the hill is quite high. Eventually I always got back but just worth noting if you are on your own. The scheduled Uber feature is a good work around.
