This house is near perfectly appointed. Every thing has been carefully chosen to fill a need a traveler may not have prepared for. We only used the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms inside, as the multi-season porches allowed us to enjoy a daily slice of nature. A beautiful mural of a local stretch of coast adorns a porch wall. The kitchen and baths are beautifully tiled and appointed with custom wood accents. You have every appliance necessary to cook well whatever menu choices your life has led you to. Every room had living plants and cut flowers from around the property. It was a nice touch that reminded us that the natural beauty was just outside. The beds had a nice "sink-into" feeling, without being too soft.We had one day of warmer weather with no wind. We set the box fan to move the air inside while we spent a late evening on the back porch. We also had mornings of heavy misting, fog, rain and 3 beautiful mornings where the sun shined right into our little outdoor pocket.Be aware that the driveway is steep. A low vehicle or a vehicle with a trailer will struggle. However, this place is worth every penny.

From the moment we booked, we weren't just guests, we were welcomed like family. Serena had my heart when she made sure to discover what we may need and made available accommodations and games/toys for my young children to enjoy. Upon arrival we forgot the exhaustion of travel because we felt the comfort of Home. Everything one would need at home (bedding, towels, kitchenware, clean washer/dryer/detergent, family games) was generously provided as others have described. The back yard had good lighting and the home felt safe and secure. The home and courtyard were beautifully maintained reflecting the host's pride and love of their home. The cleanliness, attention to detail, generosity, and warm welcome from the hosts speak to their kindness and love for people. Serena communicated with me like a sister or a best friend, and her love is what I will remember most about this stay!

Beautifully decorated and appointed property. About 12 minutes away from Arcata. Easy on and off the highway.
Very quiet neighborhood. A great location from which to explore the area. Responsive and communicative host. We will be back!

This beautiful home has EVERYTHING one might need for a family vacation. We don't have little kids, but it would be a perfect place to bring them, with games (indoor and out), books, toys, even a portable crib right there ready to use. The kitchen is better equipped than my own! Be sure to check the fridge and cupboards before you go shopping for groceries, there's a lot there! Also, I really appreciated the shelves and luggage stands in the bedrooms.
Serena is a wonderful host, providing clear information about check-in and -out procedures, local services, and activities. She is super responsive to questions, too. I didn't expect a welcome packet, but the one she put together was fantastic!
The locking driveway gate gave us a sense of security as we came and went. The back patio was a great place to gather rain or shine, and the front porch was a beautiful retreat with a fab view over the valley and the little town of Blue Lake. The three bedrooms provided private space for six adults (or kids), but the fold out couch in the living room seems small for the last 2 adults. Luckily, we only had 7 and that worked out well. Two kids could sleep on it without trouble, but I don't think two adults would be comfortable (at least, not two OLD adults like us).
The house is beautifully decorated! It was a pleasure just to spend time there. And there is so much to do in a day's range from Blue Lake, it is a great center point for a Humboldt Vacation. Even if it had rained all week, and we had been stuck inside, we wouldn't have run out of things to do, with all the games and books around.
We hope to go back again someday!

The Blue Lake property was perfect for our family of four. The place has a great and creative vibe about it.
Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was there.
We will definitely return to the property again as there is so much to see on the north coast.

It’s simple. Stay here. If you’re looking for a cozy, a little off the path home that has perfect amenities and all your needs, this home is it.
The owner, Serena, was exceptionally accommodating and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. It was so nice to show up to some welcome gifts and a personalized card (never experienced this with any other owner). She really knew how to make sure that your stay was all you hoped it would be.
The house is a perfect distance to all the sites and experiences for Northern California and Humboldt County have to offer. The kitchen is fully stocked and there is a grill for all your outdoor cooking needs. The privacy of the patio area is fantastic for the cool evenings. Bedrooms are exceptionally comfortable as well. My family and I felt very much at home and always looked forward to returning here after a day out in all the surrounding areas.
If you are visiting during the summer months, there isn’t any AC in the house, so you’ll need to keep the windows open in the evening to get that cool northern air. Note, you will hear the traffic on the local roads if you leave the windows open throughout the night.
If I ever find myself in northern Cali again (I’m from MI), I’ll stay here again without hesitation. Last note, visit Mad River Brewing in Blue Lake during your stay for great brews and food.

Clean and Comfortable - Wonderful stay
Serena was fabulous, communicative, helpful. and SO accommodating for our family trip. To make things easier for us, she set us up with self check in for our late arrival and had a travel crib already set up for our baby to go directly to bed when we finally got off the road. During our visit we kept finding more and more thoughtful touches - sanitized toys for our daughter to play with, a whole library of children's books for bedtime, tasty local coffee & taffy. In addition to the sweet touches, photos didnt do this home justice. The master shower gave me big renovation aspirations for our own home - so nice! The outdoor area was perfect for letting our kid toddle about while we sipped coffee, and we truly got to relax and unwind during our stay here.
Truly cannot recommend Serena's place enough - we are already planning our next trip back. Absolutely lovely.

Lovely hidden gem!
Perfect stay in beautiful Humboldt County. The house is up on a hillside and the view is absolutely as advertised. Easy access to all the state and national park attractions. The hosts were so communicative and even provided custom hiking recommendations for our family. Would definitely stay again!

Flawless
A beautiful and cozy home, well-appointed and meticulously maintained in a welcoming community that abounds with natural wonders. The owners pay attention to details that make the difference between a place to sleep and a stay to remember.
If you are going to be in the Arcata area (and why wouldn’t you be?) then you can’t go wrong with this one.

Quiet, Spotless and very well appointed. This house is meticulous.
This place is lovely. Seven of us met there for a casual family reunion and it went off without a hitch. The beds are comfy, the appliances are new... as is pretty much everything else! The secluded patio is peaceful and has a welcome artistic vibe. Our host, Serena has thought of every little detail and has a vibrant, friendly personality. We loved our stay!!

Great place!
We just stayed at the property for our son's graduation from Cal Poly Humboldt. From the beginning of the rental process to the end we were pleased with how smooth everything went. Serena was a wonderful, thoughtful host who made every attempt to make our stay perfect. The property was perfect for a relaxing space to celebrate our son's big day. The house had everything we needed to cook, relax and enjoy our stay! We would definitely stay here again!

Arcata visit
Our family had a fabulous stay in Blue Lake. The home layout is perfect for families; parents on one side, the kitchen and living room in the middle, with two other bedrooms on the opposite side. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked. There are indoor games and bag toss to use on the lovely backyard patio. The home is charming inside and out with a lovely view of the valley. Serena could not have been a better host. In preparation for the trip she checked in, answered questions and provided useful information about the area. She was very accessible throughout. This home is missing nothing. This is where we will stay when we return to the area.

Host with the best eye for detail
Before you even enter the property it is clear that the host, Serena, cares about her guest and goes the extra mile in communicating clearly and warmly. The welcoming nature continued as we stayed in the beautiful home which balances modern, cozy, airy, and home away from home. Serena has an eye for detail that surpasses any other place we have ever stayed. The home is thoughtfully put together, masterfully crafted with custom finishes, and really suits the beautiful view that is seen from the front porch as well as the main living area. It was the perfect place to stay as we explored the redwoods (nicely situated between The Avenue of the Giants as well as other Redwood Parks; we loved Lady Bird Johnson Grove). We only wished we had planned more than the 2 nights we stayed as we headed up the coast, because we could've easily stayed much longer!!!
Also, our kids appreciated the little touches just for them (kids books/puzzles/games/chalk)! And as parents, we were thankful for the highchair and playpen that made our lives easier.

Perfect Thanksgiving weekend
Though small in square feet, this wonderful vacation home was perfect for our family. One side of the great room had 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, perfect for my daughter and her husband, and 8 year old son. The master bath was on the other side so we each had our privacy. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner for 9. There were toys for the visiting 2 1/2 year old and 5 year old, corn hole toss and basketball for the older kids, and even a firepit to keep us warm (we had unusually mild weather and didn't need to use it but it was nice to know it was there). Serena was wonderful in checking in to make sure we knew how to get into the house and to see if we needed anything. Except for a one cup liquid measuring cup I couldn't think of anything that was supplied for us.
We're all looking forward to a repeat of this trip.

Charming house with private porch and patio with great view.

perfect!
This home is amazing. Just east of Arcata and nestled just above a quiet little town, this is a perfect retreat after a day of hiking and exploring the Redwoods and the coast. The home is spotless, very comfortable and has everything you could possibly need, including an awesome front porch for sipping coffee in the morning with a view of Blue Lake and the hillside beyond. Serena is an extremely gracious host, and I wish we could have stayed longer. 100% would rent this home again.

Redwood retreat
We had a delightful stay! The craftsmanship and artisan work on display with the burl bar top, artful epoxy floor, colorful patio mural, and more make this a spectacular space. Location is secluded at the end of a drive, yet handy to the freeway to drive to destinations and walking distance to local eats. The 3 bedrooms was a perfect set up for traveling with my 2 adult sons. We enjoyed the front porch and the back patio spaces. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware, dishes, fundamentals so we cooked quite a bit.
We got a kick out of the magnets on display as part of Serena's magnet exchange, from guests that have travel from many states and abroad. She was an excellent hostess. We felt welcomed and pampered with the special touches she left for us.
We would love to return again.

The home is full of art, from the epoxy floor, burl woods, mural and décor, making it a spectacular living space. The 3 bedrooms made for perfect accommodations for me traveling with my 2 adults sons. We walked into town a night for dinner. Handy freeway access to the beaches and breweries that we came to visit.
Serena was a delightful hostess. We felt welcomed and pampered. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and fundamentals, so we were able to stay in and cook some meals. We wanted a get away and this was an absolutely wonderful destination.

Amazing and Beautiful
What a wonderful place. Very clean, homey and comfortable, including the back and front porch areas. It felt secluded, but
close to everything we needed. The decor was amazing and bery artsy with the beautiful floor, wood stove, and kitchen-living room area. We came for my daughters wedding. Other family stayed close by at the Blue Lake Casino. We will definitely try to stay here again when we visit again.

A Blue Lake Oasis
Our family of 5 had to find a comfortable spot to land for a few days as we were attending a family memorial. There were not many great options beyond getting a few hotel rooms and that just didn't feel ok. I was thrilled to find this spot in Blue Lake! From the private gated entry to the fully renovated interior, this place didn't disappoint. Every detail was lovely and well thought out. Serena was very responsive and helpful via email.
The check in/out process was easy.
The online pictures and descriptions were accurate but couldn't fully convey the true magic of the place.
It's fairly centrally located if you have family in both McKinleyville and Arcata.
We have been coming to Arcata (my husband grew up there) for well over 25 years and this place was a fun new find.
The back courtyard was my favorite spot to sit in the morning sunshine (what?? Yes there is sunshine in Humboldt County!) with my coffee gazing at the amazing mural. The front porch has an amazing view and is another wonderful spot to rest a bit. The bedrooms were comfy. The bathrooms were perfect. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the amenities you might need. A wonderfully thoughtful note and guest basket was provided and I love the magnet exchange - a very fun touch. We did have need of a steam iron and I was so happy to find a brand new one in the master closet. The whole stay from beginning to end was perfection. I hope we will be able to stay here again in the future.

Excellent rental
Overall excellent rental and experience. 5 stars! I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Property/Experience: Gorgeous, newly renovated property with all the amenities needed for a wonderful vacation stay. The place was impeccable: beds comfortable, bathrooms clean and comfortable, lots of space for the family and kids, layout of house flows, all the kitchen appliances and tools needed, ample space on patio with grills and fireplace if needed, a little outdoor garden. What made the stay perfect on top of the nice rental was the personal attention from Serena and the finishing touches of the rental that made you know the owners/manager cared and went out of their way to make sure you had a great vacation.
Online experience: Description and pictures are accurate. Easy to book online with quick confirmation.
Communication: Easy, direct and quick communication with Serena both by email and text. She was attentive to questions and concerns and guided us along the process from pre-arrival, check-in, making sure we were taken care of during our stay and follow up afterwards.
Check-in/out: Easy self check-in. Serena offered to be present to show us around. Instructions for the rental clearly laid out. Check out also a breeze.
Location: Very small town Blue Lake with not much to do. Stores and restaurants located 10 min away in Arcata or 20 min away in Eureka- makes for a great relaxing location away from the city. Worked out great for us visiting Redwoods National Park which is 30-40 min drive to lower section of park.
